What Gameboy said. Tho I don't think the OP can be successful at being polite and civil to CS. He's too wrapped up in self righteous indignation at the very idea that he just made a mistake.

For some people it's far easier to throw a temper tantrum that man up and admit they were wrong.
Yes, I was wrong to have bought it. No I did not lie when I said it took me DIRECTLY to the payment screen. I'll post video evidence later, just to prove it which you'll no doubt say I must have doctored in some way because you're obviously never wrong yourselves.

As for being civil, I'll be civil when people can give a response that isn't condescending or downright rude. I think I have every right to be annoyed with NC for this one.

Let's get a few facts straight shall we?

Firstly, I clicked on the "Buy now" option which does NOT give you the info displayed in the screenshot above. It simply takes you directly to the payment details setup. Fact.

Secondly, I have done this several times with purchases such as the Wedding/Science Packs, Going Rogue and so on, so forth. Every single one of which can be applied to an existing account. So, naturally when I see VIP I automatically assume it can also be applied to an account, since EVERYTHING ELSE can.

So, before you guys fire off on all cylinders about how much of an obvious dunce I must've been, know that this is not a simple case of not reading, it's a case of not having all the information readily available. I stand by my original assessment.

Second, it says in bold that it can only be applied to new accounts. An account that already exists cannot be new in any meaningful way.

Third, yes VIP accounts are paid accounts. If you're not paying a subscription with either time cards or direct payment you cannot be a VIP. That is the requirement to be a VIP. All other accounts are either Free or Premium.

Fourth, "Why they can't simply apply the status to the account is beyond me. It's not as if there's something physically stopping them. They simply use up the serial code and apply VIP to an account, it's not rocket science." Standard Code Rant. i suppose that technically you're correct, since computer code isn't actually physical, but otherwise your assertion fails.
One, I can create any FREE account without needing to buy it or upgrade it. Your argument is invalid.

Two, as mentioned in my earlier post and above in THIS one, it took me directly to the payment screen and gave no such indications that it was for new accounts only. I assumed the "Starter Pack" crap came with either badges or emotes as has been the trend in similar games and previous packs.

Three, you missed the point entirely. The point was the P in VIP. Very Important Payment. A little joke. Of course I know VIP is a paid for account. That's what I've been trying to get my hands on. That's what I paid for.

Four, your "Standard Code Rant" argument might apply in most cases, but not on a system which regularly deals with the application of these very serial codes. Furthermore, the same serial code is DISPLAYED when I select "Apply a Serial Code" in the actual game account options under City of Heroes. That's evidence if little else that the code is already there, they just need to be linked.

I get that everyone wants to jump on the "flog the ranting idiot" bandwagon, but at least be constructive here. You'd be less than happy if you had paid for one thing which turned out to be another. If nothing else, im entitled to be pissed off it's taking them so long for a simply reply. Even if it is just to say "Sorry, there's nothing we can do.". That, at least, would be some form of conclusion to this matter.
  3. Great, so now I've got a useless paid-for account. Why they can't simply apply the status to the account is beyond me. It's not as if there's something physically stopping them. They simply use up the serial code and apply VIP to an account, it's not rocket science.

This, in my mind at least, is tantamount to theft since if you click on the "Buy Now" it doesn't give you the info that "it cannot be applied" it just takes you straight to the sales screen. And besides which, the serial code is displayed whenever I try to apply a serial code to the existing account.

Still, nice to see their customer support is so supportive of PAYING customers. I guess the P in VIP stands for Payment instead. As long as they get paid, who cares about the customer, right?
  4. ...and for some reason it won't allow me to apply the VIP status to the account, which is why I'm STILL having to post in the "All Access" forums. I've sent emails to their "support" but have basically got the boiler plate auto-replies back with nothing tangible actually done about it.

Okay, I'll be the first to admit that the City of Heroes support is usually less than supportive at best, but surely when there's money involved they should be a little bit more on the ball?

My question is, how long does it usually take for an actual human being rather than a bot to go through account issues like this and fix them? Having a non-VIP character fully slotted with invention origins and unlocked Incarnate slots is like having a car without an engine. Doesn't matter how hard you push that accelerator, you aren't getting anywhere fast.
  5. ...okay, seriously what's the deal with this? I get that you need to drive players to have a reason to switch to VIP and all (not that the recent focus on VIP-only endgame updates don't give enough of an incentive) but what is with this constant beat-down on players who've previously played the game?

I get that there would be content we can't unlock. Heck, I even respect that we can't actually CRAFT the things any more without that daft license. But why, in the name of all that is holy, can't we even use the ones we've already got equipped? We need a time-limited license just to actually function in a team!?

This game pretends to be a 'free to play' model, but pinches you in all the wrong places. I'm very, very disappointed. I'll be honest, I'm testing the waters here. I could happily go VIP in the long term if the community has built up to a sufficient standard (I left because it was too darn quiet!), but this has effectively rendered all of my characters completely useless.

Maybe this was some form of last-ditch attempt to make SO's useful again, but this has to be the biggest let-down of my return so far.
  6. So, from what I've gleaned from various information the Incarnate system is available exclusively to VIP players. However, this was not always the case and some players might have already unlocked their Incarnate prior to City of Heroes switching to a free to play model.

My question is does it remain unlocked for these characters? If so, will I need to purchase VIP before I can use those characters? If not, does this mean that should I go VIP I'll have to redo the alpha slot missions again? Moreover, what would this mean for VIP players who switch to F2P for a short term?

I've scoured the internet for information, but this question has surprisingly never come up. Odd that.
  7. Thanks, Some great comments there as well as suggestion, i suppose i would pick a Tanker for tanking, but for scrapping i can see i would still have a hard time picking between, scrapper and Brute, al thou they both have there plus sides as well as downsides (mostly AT), but i think it is mostly down to play style

    Thanks
I to have had the same problem 3 times and i think i have managed to find two possible causes
    1) you still have to lvl up the remaining lvls before you can respec (example, i was lvl 48, but only levelled up to lvl 41 on my 2nd build)
after i levelled up the remaining levels it was successfully
2)not sure this is a possibility, changing builds and trying to respec still within the 15 Min wait

hope this is of some help
  9. With the new going rouge out, a question has been bothering me,
Is there any real benefit to creating a Brute, with a Res cap of 85% and a primary being Damage. i can see them being less stronger then a tanker, but still be stronger then a scrapper in the fighting department.
so the question would be, are the scrappers now being replaced by the stronger class brute or are they just as worthy, or for tanking is there a place still for the humble tanker?
  10. As regards to getting stamina, Im kinda looking foreword to it,all thou you can start the power pool as low as lvl 6, and have stamina by lvl 20, for the average player this has become a standerd selection, so freeing up the extra slots would be a benefit
If it where to become inherent i would like to see it made slightly weaker requiring more slots to gain the same lvl as a 3 slotted Stamina (to make it both more challenging and interesting)while leaving open the fitness pool still for thus wishing to choose this (it would make an interesting combo in my opinion) allowing for extra IO bonuses and giving more Choice.
So i would say in short go ahead as long as it's implemented well and not as a straight replacement
