Quote:I am having fun! =) I am getting a grasp on my scrapper now. I just needed some input on Brute comparison. Since I am used to rolling a "tank" brute cause it's what I expect from a brute so I roll one that way. I am glad I can play something with brute attacks and not expected to tank! wooot! As long as you're having fun that's what's important, but in the low levels you're generally better off sticking to your primary and secondary before going into the pools.
Now to use Build 2 and fix the powers I regret...(self heal)..what a waste. Wooopty doo...i live 3 seconds longer...so what! -
Wish I could help but I cant. I've always felt Corruptors are optimal on teams ..and most wanted to. Every Corr I have has had a team focused support that heals. I thought and felt it was a corrs job to range dps and support ...with that in mind I have always carried the healer type secondary pools for that purpose.
As others pointed out you picked great pools for teams. So why not team more? A solid Corr can be the difference in a steam rolling team and a fail team. It has been very obvious to me last night playing GR. I rolled a Cor just to help a leader of a good team that needed heals. It turned a minor debt slow moving team into a steam rolling team ...all because I picked up Pain heals and share pain.
Play how you like good sir. This is not a You must play healer secondary post...just pointing out how valued those builds are that you did roll.
Have you considered using dark instead? Snare is a great tool..and tar is awesome with my DP. My favorite corr so far to. In teams he is great at bottlenecks with the tar + aoes.
Solo I can simply snare and use lethal shots to keep them in the patch as I shoot them down...and heal huge when needed.
I wish you luck finding the solo build that works for you. Corr's are not bad at all I think.. I really like them for their utility style they bring....great team members to have. -
Cool it sounds good so far. My plan was to have the End and HP regen in defense combined with the Fitness version. This way I can run those leadership toggles for def and accuracy.
So I can not just bring dps to my team but also support buffs for us all and run them without worry of end.
I will work out getting hasten in the build....I am going to skip travel powers having ninja run and my prestige run skill (not to mention swift with fitness) I can live with that.
So far I am learning how to use it...I've been supporting the brutes and or corrs with mobs on them...kinda like typical mmo games as DPS I support dps on assist or play peal the mob when the "tank" is busy with something stronger.
So basically im building towards:
Self sufficient with health and stamina
Bring Def and Acc to party
DPS my booty off
use my Ryu fireball move from Kinetics to KB mobs off back line back to front line.
Actually having fun with my Hadoken using it to cluster mobs or move them off people...such a good move for temporary interrupts and mob positioning by force. -
I only play Villains. Just been my thing. So for the first time I have rolled a Heroe AT. I really like the Scrapper so far. I can't help but compare in my mind to a Brute though.
What are the pros and cons vs Brute of a Scrapper? Since I am only level 12 Kin/Regen I don't know much yet. I do know I like the Regen combined with leadership and fitness I hope to have some survival and low downtime between beating people down in Red Side groups at 20+ -
My god it was such a long night last night. (fun to) I followed the leader of this group for hours and we had a mission that felt like a SF x2. I never did finish this with them. We just kept going and going on this arc...
I think these missions are nice (no snakes) and lots of headroom (no flipping caves). The length of these missions are pretty long after we dinged 10.
It seems that they really put effort into making your level 1-20 take a little longer ,but more fun in the process.
Anyone know the quest I am talking about by the way? (mission quest what ever). You start off going into a subway fighting Ghouls in imperial city. At the end you enter stairs after clearing armies of ghouls...then it continues in the underground. This is where I left off.
Anyone have any interesting story arcs of either Loyalists or Resistance to mention trying?
And some tidbits of the opening plots? -
Quote:Yah it wasn't stating if in combat and out or not...since I couldn't tell while in combat I figure I ask you more experienced around here.In game information:
Suppress Pain.....
Power Type: Toggle
Target Type: Self
Effect Area: aoe--15ft radius (255 targets max)
+393.00% regeneration rate (for me)
I am going to invest in that because it is so helpful to teams I am on for sure.
Now I wish I could spec out of my secondary on my old character from back in the day. I wish they would allow even if by store to buy a power change in secondary. -
-
I totally forgot the power name but it puts a bubble around you that with one slot of DO in heal gives people in that bubble a 233 regeneration rate.
Now there is no other details in game on this thing. Does it always have regen on in and out of battle.
I notice out of battle I see this strange green coil around everyone. In combat I don't notice but I was also in combat with lots of stuff going on in a full team.
So is this power pretty good in support? I was considering slotting it up a lot. That depends if the regen works in combat or not. -
Thank you very much for the information. I will look at that from home tonight and get working on it.
It's blocked at work =( -
I was told last night by two people that at level 41 Epic Power Pool unlocks... Here I am stumped and never heard of such a thing. They say Heroes get that so my Villain should.
I go to train up to level 41 and I see nothing about some Epic Power Pool.
Can someone inform me on this? I am unlearned in such a topic and I need to be schooled on this.
edit: ok seems this site isn't blocked from my work PC. http://cityofheroes.wikia.com/wiki/Patron_Power_Pools
For those wondering the same... there is the info. -
I am looking for a VG that I am a fit for and they are a fit for me. Casual place with adults that is family oriented. Knowing when I say wife agro I have to afk. I shouldn't have to explain myself after that.
I am not into the hardcore scene. I just want a nice place ,friendly faces, jokers , and active members.
So anyone here have suggestions ?
I have been prompted by my latest experiences with pugs. I am getting worn thin by the witnessing of abuse and pure childish behavior of only pugs. I really need a place where I can group with better people with good character traits.
I can't commit to hardcore. I raid in Eq2 pretty often so this is my fallback game in between.
EDIT UPDATE:
Thanks for the PM's of recommendations. I will be contacting the one of interest. -
I dont have the Article in front of me. PC gamer last month has COH2 pegged in development in one of it's reports.
I also ran across a blog post prior to this article saying the same.
The pattern with most games losing focus because of a sequel is less tweaking of the old as they push forward into the new. I'm not saying no updates will happen. Nor I am saying they won't change this cape aura mission thing. I am only saying with history of games development into sequels it is a low chance they will change this cape aura mission... some of these tweaks are moot .... they may just focus on bugs and the new content fixes vs old. And its a more probable chance they will do that as COH2 gets going.
PS: You are not incorrect I just think behind on the news is all. April 6th the trademark was announced on G4 and Gamespot. At the same time only speculated that it may have already been in development and they just got the name now.
July PC Gamer mentioned it already in a partially developed form indirectly. That's the problem with the article I do have. Very vague but they hinted at it already developed. -
The discussion to allow a not linked Cape to Aura mish is good reasoning. Very much doubt that will change at all though. They are about to push forward the next expansion....
Plus they are working on Part 2 of this game as we speak...so I doubt they will make many more changes from here out. -
Meh I had to do all the level starter missions (level 30 when I got them) before I even could get my cape mish. Oh yeah! I just grabbed a bunch of low level players and dragged them with me fighting snakes at level 30 on Mercy island.
-
I don't understand why they don't just randomly email active players the code...like a lotto.
That would be fair. -
DP+ what ever is cool =) ... I can't put my finger on it. Just this class is pretty nice primary.
As I read how one plays it out with cold it's interesting.
I play DP/Dark. Howling, tar,Twilight is all I will grab till later...but it works so well. I take full advantage of the Tar and lethal ammo ...Juggling my targets and keeping them in the snare of death trap. At the same time I can throw in some very big heals at random...I hate playing *healer* for teams,BUT I will do it if it ensures my team cleans house.
I am currently making a DP/ Traps i think (forgot) the one with the force shield. Having Caltrops and the Shield I was thinking I can avoid being healer but bring some good def support to my team with Shield +maneuvers.
as for Execution shot....it isn't much of a big deal to me...I use hover (for def and avoidance of getting punched in the face. So I am normally using it in no fear of getting snared in animation to get punched in the jaw. I find that move pretty strong. I slotted it up a lot more recently (lvl 27 now). That does some serious hp chopping. I also like it for the KB...I get someone in my face its the first shot I will use ...hittem hard...and KB them back into my tar patch.
anyway.... of all the classes so far... I love DP the most since my return. -
Ok I am not following very well. Can you split up power selections between the two skills on one of the two builds you can store at the Arbiter....No...
If you are asking: Can I have build 1 be X and Build 2 be Y at the arbiter. yes.
I have a Crab Spider and Bane using the build swap.
The only thing I can say is I was told I have a graphic bug to. I chose to go Spider first. Now when I flip to Bane I still have a crab pack on my back....either team was wrong or its a bug from what I understand.
So if you have a costume problem like I have...keep the example I gave in mind.
Edit: bah was beaten to the punch. -
Quote:I can explain why I had it. I had no Taunt to unlock yet. I took the next best thing at the level it unlocked. I felt gimp without it and unable to do what I felt i was meant to do in early levels.I've seen just about everything while pugging.
Petless MMs, "healer" stalker, "healer" brute. scraptrollers (trollers who use melee attacks from pools), trollers who skip the single target hold, 'fraidy Tanks, Empahty Tanks, Blasters with Provoke and "Brawlman" 6 slotted brawl on auto.
Not meaning to "nitpick" but if I saw a brute with provoke vs taunt I would probably ask them why provoke instead of taunt. Most brutes are pretty tight on pools so I would be curious as to why.
now that I can have taunt..I did a rebuild and took taunt. -
Sounds painful *budum bump*....
I too noticed this stupidity of our pets since my return. Back in the day around 2006 my pets would usually sit at range mostly.(minus one drone I called dumbot) I had to use go to to get them to come closer so I could heal them and my team. Now its the other way around....I have to use heel and or go to ..to get them out of the thick of a mess...near the edge of the team vs next to the melee.
I am forced to use this pattern to keep my pets in check:
Petattackall -after mob dies- click heel- cast my heal if needed for team and pet- click petattack again... rinse and repeat.
This way my pets focus attack ranged...then I heel them soon as mobs about to take a final hit....forcing them to regroup on me...then I focus attack again.
I seem to be micro managing my pets more than ever....ugh. -
Quote:this is why i think saying healer was just better. I only play villain. So now that I know primary powers that support are heroe exclusive...ill drop secondary in my talk here.Yeah, I forgot to add them in, and as the OP is a self confessed reside player I can see why he keeps writing secondary.
Still we are derailed into minor details. I really wanted to see more posts like Noxilicious to give some feedback to those new to making teams at lower levels. I am sure these folks could use these pointers judging by how horrid the teams all day on Sunday were as I made many alts.
I have also ran into many returned and or new players lately. So I hope that some of them are reading this and getting some good pointers.
Also after reading your posts I completely understand now why it threw people off ...I kept saying stuff that was more targeted towards Villains. I keep forgetting about Heroes =).
PS: I am going to bow out now. thanks for the feed back and contributions. I hope that you veterans continue to add some feedback for those new guys that read this. Also thanks for teaching me a thing or two while we had discussion. I do appreciate it. -
Quote:Well I made the mistake of going to Player Help and making a post to help newbies ....and got nitpicked on the dumbest things. I did get some helpful posts to.Hey don't knock provoke. Its a PBAOE taunt and there is nothing wrong with that. I actually exclusively used provoke until they made taunt an auto hit. I actually some times miss the provoke animation because it is so much more manly and cool then taunts
OK:
Brutes get taunt around 14 and it is No-hit check AOE
Presence tree unlocks sooner: So one may take challenge a single target rescue taunt...or Provoke a weaker version of Brutes Taunt that does have a hit check.
Hope this clears that up for those wondering whats with all these differ taunts.(new players and old returning brain farting ones like me). -
Quote:I think priority is Fun first. yet not everyone definition of fun may line up. I do my best to joke and give words of encouragement. Laugh at my own deaths...try to keep the atmosphere cool.....Sometimes it's more about having fun as well. Either way you look at it, you are still right. It's not usually beneficial to UP the difficulty when the team is already in a bad struggle. Then again, some people have fun trying to push through the hard stuff... though that's likely to not to be the newer players, so that's not who this thread is really aimed at. lol
Also I think people have more fun when they are not dead often =) so having some structure for new players to build on can help them have more success in groups vs bad groups. Enhancing the experience for them. =) -
Aye its rare...I saw this done by Joker Man in Nerva... and our team ran soo smooth... *Shameless Kudos to Joker Man*
I do it also because of my tanking habits from EQ2. When I can get groups with some Aoe power. I look at my job as to be punching bag man and not mr.can punch hard. So My melee skills are weak sauce but my def is sickening good for my level.
I have a team with AOE I pull two ways. Depending on mob placement..I hate getting two groups... SO I will do the line of sight pulling and tell my team what I am doing first. So they dont attack yet. or I will round them up and let them AOE.... goes pretty smooth.
There are the teams that just steam roll everything and my herding is useless. those are good teams also. Not every Brute plays the same and nor should they play like I do. I just like to take full advantage of my ability for the sake of making the team more successful.
Nothing feels better than holding 10+ mobs as your team can AOE and come out with green bars nearly full. The only thing that bites is my first lesson in checking powers... Herding and learning my team has no supporter that has heal powers.. DOH....i held them for a while...they cleared the mobs but I died... -

Quote:Thank you for the contribution. I am sure someone new to the game will appreciate the input. A lot of things here people take for granted. And going back to the original topic, as a frequent team leader myself, I can attest to the fact that communication is key to a team's success and enjoyment.
That said, I also try to be as light as possible on orders. Some teams are steam-rolling death machines, acting autonomous, without any outward input. Others require meticulous planning in order to succeed at your objective. With that in mind, unless I see that the team is struggling a lot, I don't consider it necessary to appoint a lead man or designated puller.
And while we're on the subject of differing team potentials, you never know a PuG's difficulty treshold until you've already done a mission. For that reason the first mission I run is always +0. Nothing is more frustrating than going into a high-difficulty mission only to see that you cannot complete it without huge amounts of frustrating. Generally, though, every team can do a +0 mission with relative ease, and from there I can raise the difficulty to something more appropriate. If the team had a couple of close calls, I'll stay at +0. If the team beat everything in a decent tempo and everything went smoothly, I'll go to +1, and if we just brutally steam-rolled everything, it'll be time for +2 or maybe even +3.
In other words, always adjust the difficulty to the team, don't expect the team to adjust to the difficulty. By having an easy first mission you have a chance to see how good a team is and can pick a difficulty that is challenging without being frustrating and everyone's much more likely to enjoy themselves.
Quote:Could you please stop refering to healers? There is no AT in game called a healer, and no sets that are dominantly healing.
PS> *in response to the nitpicking* I say "healer" because more than one class can carry a secondary that heals. It is most easy to lump it into one word vs naming off the secondary power skills. if you don't like this reference, give me a better one then. Seriously I think you are being too critical here.
Topic of taunts, provokes , and the like:::::
OK I found out some stuff last night before the big reset.
Brutes have a Taunt at around 14 I think. It is AOE. Before that unlocked I picked up provoke, because I wanted to use it for once. In the past I never had that power on my Brute I made in 2006.
Now there are some powers that I confused the single taunt with.
Presence power:
Challenge - single target ..rescue type taunt.
Provoke- Weaker version of Brutes Aoe Taunt skill.
