Eq2 head here and still playing ...
Your questions all have been answered. The one that you asked about Solo I can understand from EQ2 viewpoint.
You are mostly concerned about being able to progress. And groups are hard to find at times in EQ2. So you end up soloing.
In this game ...grouping is very common thing. I have returned for 3 weeks now (rough guess) and I have not done squat solo. I have always found a team.
Don't simply flag for group. Watch that Broad cast channel. its much like Lvl 1-9 channel in eq2... except eq2 had more blah blah gibberish waste of brain cells to read junk to. For the most part its a great place to find a party. Just click the name in the chat box saying LFm the option to send message pops (fast way to respond before slots fill).
Otherwise you can solo your way..but that is dull man. You will find Teaming (groups) much more fun.
I also warn you to shake your old school way of grouping... The holy trinity grouping isn't a must...it is nice but not a must... (Tank,Healer,Dps)
Gear progression isn't the thing here... No heritage armors...and or Red slot raid loot...blue slot pvp loot...etc etc...
Its hard to describe...all i can say is dive in...be creative with your toon...enjoy the story arcs with quests...socialize... lots of action to be had.
one warning: this isn't like Antonia bayel RP...these folks are more hardcore RP if you join RP server...nothing wrong with that...but the atmosphere is different.
Freedom has very little to no RP but players are mostly interested in playing the game and crunching the numbers to maximize the characters it seems.
Virtue seems to lean more towards RP over gaming optimally (doesnt mean the both cant go together just leans to rp is all).
both servers good...for population. I prefer Freedom but don't be discouraged to go RP Virtue. Its a good place to.
Since you and I are EQ2 types PM me questions if you like...I can help you cross over into this world from EQ2 raid raid raid land... =p FYI: Abominable Labs can bite me! -
Quote:Very cool. Ok I may just do it...and see how groups take to my brute. I probably should put a note in saying "Brute built on Offensive" so they know..I am not your herding Brute.Being offensive is in my nature.
... on my Brute. >_>
But to answer, yes. I play a Dark Melee/Dark Armor brute, where the defenses from my armor are sub-par compared to other sets (save for Fire, maybe). My philosophy on tanking with him consists of using Darkest Night and my inherent -ToHit debuffs to cause the enemies to miss more, putting less stress on my armors and allowing me to keep my fists flying.
The key phrase: They can't kill you if they can't survive you.
Since he is Mace/Shield I will have to fidget with a respec a bit. Can't wait to try it. -
Now I have always built my Brute to be able to tank and find some balance with melee due to the fact teams just need a solid guy to taunt and hold mobs. I have never made a Brute purely for destruction only.
So is it safe now to make a Brute (respec one that is) totally focused on Offensive.. sorta like a Scrapper with Fury I guess.
I can see it being pretty good with a Tank in the teams...tank tanking..brute destroying. They would work well together...So far in GR it has been working out that way as I tried my very first Tanker built towards one purpose..holding a lot of agro with a grin.
The Brute I was with was having a punch festival as I held the agro...it was great to see the Brute being Brutal. =p
anyway...i know this hasn't stopped others from making a Brute offensive focused before...just I think I am comfortable now in going this route. Are fully offensive focused Brutes pretty darn good in the face smash department? My guess is Yes...but I like to know how you all feel on this. -

Quote:Hmm I don't have much of a education on classes with Heroes. Isn't the controller more of a dom ? I don't know.Based on the sections I've bolded, I'd actually say you're looking to play a controller.
I guess I thought wrong of defenders. I thought they were support primary with heals ...
Now to go dig up info on defenders and controllers.. I am sorry I was uneducated on the heroe classes...I am pretty dumb to them at the moment. -
Yo whats up! I am a group-aholic so I am always down to hang out. really I am. I only play villains but my sig has my global. So if you are rolling some new alts I would travel across parties with you.
I will only go Villain but we can group till the time comes to choose sides. -
Now I am no number cruncher prebuilder type person. So throwing builds at me will probably just cause me to have a large brain fart. That said. General advice is welcome.
I have not picked a build yet...as for I have to level some on my Tanker tonight to get to Shark Head Isle ...then it's on to defender.
Before I pick, I want my defender to offer some solid support for big teams...and I am undecided if I should even go down the dark path . I have a corruptor I love already. DP/Dark he does a great job in heals and dps. This time I want to be more support less dps for future teams on Villains.
Throw me some pros and cons you Defenders.... I would love your input. -
I really really wondered WTH after playing this class in GR. It's the Brute I've been trying to build so to speak. For the longest time I have played brutes and mulling over ..more Def...or more Offense...because well...we don't have tanks.
So I made a Mace/Elec Tank and I had a great time in GR with my final group last night. They allowed me to tank in the mmo typical terms of a tank. I was just in heaven with it. So much more better than my Mace/Shield brute in terms of tanking.
You heroes got it good with this one...im glad I finally can bring this over to Villains and do the job I have been wanting to do for a while. Tank tons of mobs and laugh at them.
The only draw back is I had one attack till I turned 16 =p. As my party laughed at me..but it was all good. I still had Taunt, Sands of Mu, one mace attack to work with..Finally got jaw breaker. I never plan on soloing so this is just perfect team player I have. Truly a tank of my other mmo...can hold agro ..but kills slower than a slug race. That's fine =)
So to those who never rolled tanker before like me....this class is great. I really love how well it holds agro. I love elec def primary....
So just thought I share my thoughts...and to the rest of you tankers out there...you all are wonderful class...so glad Villains can have them now. -
Quote:=( that stinks man....On June 30th I went to my local GameStop store. I put down a $40 deposit ($44.99 Canadian, not including tax) (Gamestop.ca product page). So silly me, I went to the store this morning expecting to get my Going Rogue box and goodies. I was politely told that "I don't know what happened, but we got a memo that shipments all across Canada have been delayed. It more than likely means that the vendor didn't produce enough product or that it got held up at the border."
They had my phone number, but didn't even bother to let me know that there was a delay. Thanks a lot.
On a side note RIB jab... You forgot to remove Game stop in the Title...bwahahaa =p /scrams for the exit -
Quote:Hah...I have no clue.... I never did one mission minus the one to leave. I spend all my time in parties. I am a team player kinda guy. I have only been to the underground once for a ghoul clearing mission with my team. But that is all...I never ventured deep into them.Wow, how do you get to level 20 in Praetoria without ever going to the Underground? Resistance members especially spend a ton of time there, considering they have the three underground bases.
You can go Underground from any of the regular entrances (with the red and yellow icons named A, B, C, etc). those will take you to specific points in the maze of underground tunnels. The Underground is it's own zone (well, three zones actually), so you won't get a compass marker for the mission entrance until you actually get TO the correct Underground.
You can also go to the Underground through one of the two faction-specific entrances in each zone. The Resistance entrance is handy because it is closest to the Underground base. -
Quote:its not huge but it does add up well..and a great agro magnet tool..not good =)How much extra damage does the incendiary ammo add to the damage output of Dual Pistols?
My higher level DP Corr I primarily use Lethal to juggle mobs into my tar patch....but there are times when the debuffs are needed on tougher groups. So using the bio ammo debuffs the mobs , which your tankers on blue will love.
The freezing ammo i read slows attack rate on top of movement..(true? confirmation?) I use it only as a way to keep mobs snared if we herd ...more situational ammo.
Cryo is nice enhancer ...the ammo triggers off often with the cone aoe and aoe attacks...you will see it land more with those moves. As for single shots sometimes it lands sometimees it doesn't.
I think if you use the fire ammo...use it with your aoe's to get max effect from your aoe damage output.
I am constantly flipping toggles to stack fire with debuff on tougher fights...
Its nice to have cryo by the way..this way you can turn OFF that knock backs at will..by changing ammo type.
Sorry i keep saying Cryo: should be saying swap ammo -
Just details on my exit for those reading this guide. Soon as I hit 20 and went to level up. I was given a new contact to call. Once I called him I was prompted to go underground.
Going through the Resistance underground access in the last area of GR. The tunnels are pretty long with mobs ...the good news easy to blast past to the portal you need to get to.
Once you talk to the npc you get to choose which portal you want...Be it Heroes or Villain doorway out.
Just tossing this out so you have a clue. At first I was lost on where to go...Underground? A B C? Well I chose the access that was related to my faction...so i guess that is what you must choose to use when you go underground. Not sure on this.
There were no map indicators as I got the quest till I reached underground...once down there the active quest locate (red sun icon like thing) showed up on the underground map. From there it was simple walk through on steps. -
Quote:Reason I said it would be a good back story for those who take up this idea. =)I like to put as much realism as I possibly can into my rp (you know in a world where there is Alien invaders, magic and super powers) and I just always thought that due to some of the traumatic experiences my characters face day to day that that kind of stress would lead to some kind of mental break eventually.
People deal with stress in funny ways and the human mind is very complex, some suppress their emotions only to have it bubble to the surface later. Others abuse substances while others take up risky behaviors.
I know that for some talking about mental health is taboo, but to my mind in a genre that has sported Batman the idea of PTSD and the possibility of hundreds of "Anti-heroes" being created just goes to add some spice to virtues life. -
-
Quote:And I didn't accuse you of doing so. I am making sure before I say anything it's clear as a bell that I don't. It's because we never know what reader may take from our posts and go all angry here.My Father suffers from PTSD for good reason, trust me I am not making light of it.
More of a fire prevention statement. Also since I deal with ptsd people 40 hours a week. I just wanted to give some food for thought for those who do read this and think "hmm not a bad idea for a back story."
This comment prompted my tip on reading up more on ptsd :
"And some flip out when the event comes back up. You might play a blaster who was tortured by Rikti, and whenever he sees Rikti he fires his nuke in a frenzied attempt to kill them all. "
Which made me think that some folks have the wrong idea on ptsd itself and should research a bit before they use it. -
Quote:Virtue= Focus on Back story of ID and if their socks clash with their capes and tiaras.I've recently returned to the game after having been gone since a few months after release.
I was on Virtue, but I'm sick of the inept play of roleplayers.
If I'm going to continue to play this game, I need to find a server on which I can play.
I'm looking for an active SG, with mature members, that groups often and does some TFs and trials.
mwhahaha ok ok...im done...
FREEDOM!!!! is where the actions is... you can wear ugly socks and have a very ugly toon...but if you play well ..who cares! -
Note; I do not take light of PTSD at all. I work next to Veterans and see them often.
If you really want to apply this PTSD, to a character I think you should probably read some PTSD stories from Law enforcement stories and Military to give you some kind of idea what direction to go , if you want to Role Play.
Im not so thin skinned to be offended, I only advise being a little careful not to stereo type PTSD sufferers as violent out bursting crazies.
For the most part its a overwhelming sensitive alertness to a situation for most I know. Depends on the person. For some it's being stuck in traffic, due to Afghan/Iraq sitting still in traffic = horribly bad death traps.
For others it's crowds of people causing a distress and panic to get out of dodge away from crowds.
One guy i know at work its crawl spaces under houses or other tight spots... he was a mole in Vietnam.. the guy who crawled in those tunnels disarming traps and finding underground bunkers.
So use your imagination with some of this RL info here...good luck with this agenda on Role playing a PTSD heroe or Villain. Sounds like a good long back story you could write up for them. -
Thank you for the information. Soon to take Scrapper and tanker over to Villains.
-
Quote:That's funny you mention that. My mace brute is defense focused man...my attacks are a joke... I play with the intent to "tank" like in my other mmo Eq2... Run in Taunt...and cringe as the pain is incoming.heals are pretty nice, I find as a tank I often prefer buffs/debuffs. Even on 8 man spawns if I find that earths embrace/dull pain is enough to keep me topped off on health(assuming there's some bffs/debuffs flying around) and I imagine fire/regen/willpower have it even better!
Though I bet defense based tanks love healers!
I do have times where I have those "oh Sheet moments" ..that's when I don't have a healer. And just noticed after I clicked taunt those pissed of Carnies. -
Quote:Ahead of you buddy! Already putting slots in those asap.... I have 4 in stamina and hp regen ... I am splitting up my 2 slots one for second one for primary till i get them filled. That is priority ...Health stacks with Fast Healing, so that's fine, and Stamina stacks with Quick Recovery.
But Fast Healing and Quick Recovery are both better (bigger buffs) than Health and Stamina, so they should be slotted up and enhanced first.
Seems you and I are survivalist type players...build on survival first before we focus on the other things. -
Well I have to agree with that to. Heals are not the only thing Corrs can bring for sure. Though if I had to pick which had more value between two cors with exact same primary skills...if my team lacked any heals I would take the heals first. This statement isn't meant to devalue the other build though. I agree it's support is just as well desired on teams.
-
Quote:Thanks for the tip Pitho! So what do you heroes think about me stacking the Stamina/Health of Fitness with my Regen Secondary with the same stuff on it? Will I see a significant regen of both power and HP with the combination of those two fully slotted? The passive regen based armor set is called "willpower" (has some resistance/def to help give the regen time to work).
That was my on the fly decision as I read over Regen secondary. And taking maneuvers for defense addition for self and team...
I never will solo so I don't plan on building to solo. So don't worry about that stuff. I am more focused on team play with my Scraps. -
Quote:I certainly have no clue what blue side is like on Freedom. I hate solo so I have always built towards team work playing. For the most part teams with healer types are not low on Red for me. We get MM's with it and or Corrs for the most part. It's kinda normal to have a healer support around.I think, for the most part, villains have learned to be self sufficient. I know if I get a string of unlucky hits on my widow, I hit f1-f5, whichever slot has a green on it. Oranges are great to use proactively as well.
I'm debating whether or not to make my corruptors rogue, as I've gotten my fair share of "r u healer?" tells on my trapper defender. (Trapper proudly wears "lvl xx Trapper defender, LFT" as her comment.) I have less faith in blue side mentality when it comes to being open / tolerant of powersets.
It was only obvious in GR there was a severe lack of any heal support ....so if you have not rolled a AT with heal support...try it on Rogue cause they are in demand.
I have noticed in GR that the team work is more focused... and heals a must for the most part unless you want to progress slowly in 8 man pve. -
Quote:OK OK fine =( ... I'll keep it... Maybe I should have picked a differ secondary then ..doh.GAH. No. Reconstruction is vitally important. Do not skip it.The powers you can skip in Regen are Resilience and Revive, the rest of them are pretty important. Once you slot Reconstruction up with recharge and heals it is a HUGE percentage of your hp/sec. You can't just rely on your passive regen in Regeneration, you have to push buttons a lot. It's a very active secondary.
Ill live with it and work it so I can understand it better for the future. It's not like I wont roll more Scraps from here out =p
Now to hit 20 and get to Villains and play on teams wooo....
Ugh no can't I have to roll more heroes to take over to villains! mwahahaha -
Quote:Support /= must have a heal.
Damnit Jim I'm a doctor, not an elevator
I'm a doctor, not an engineer
I'm a doctor, not a historian
I'm a doctor, not a revolutionary
I'm a doctor, not a doorstop
Well I'm a corruptor, not a doctor
yah ...that is the dark side of this...sometimes you feel like a Doctor vs a DPSer on some teams... that's when I demand the leader get more heal support so i don't get all the work ...so i can use my well slotted DP butt kicking powers.
