  1. Just reaching out to everyone with the thought -- what do you feel is the largest "Truth in Advertising" failure when it comes to Power Descriptions in the game?

For me, it's "Some of this Endurance may transfer back to you" on many of the powers in the Electrical Blast Power Set. I've been playing a fully setted Electrical Blaster for 5 years now, almost every day, and if I ever got any END back after an attack, I sure never noticed it.

"Rally to me. Let the indomitable spirit of Bataan and Corregidor lead on. As the lines of battle roll forward to bring you within the zone of operations, rise and strike. Strike at every favorable opportunity. For your homes and hearths, strike! For future generations of your sons and daughters, strike! In the name of your sacred dead, strike! Let no heart be faint. Let every arm be steeled. The guidance of divine God points the way. Follow in His Name to the Holy Grail of righteous victory!"

I recommend AVG Free Anti-Virus, Lavasoft's Ad-Aware and Spybot Search-and-Destroy to help keep your computer free of unwanted malware! I don't know what you're using but those three packages are all free to download and use -- maybe give them a try!

Hope to see you back in action soon, Nerf!

I found many passages in "The White Company", by Arthur Conan Doyle, very, very inspirational. Less for any single speeches or monologues (although there are many that amazed me) but rather the striking and stirring overall mentality of the people involved, that arose from and then transcended the period and the society that birthed it.

I feel this is important, as we cannot take Superheroes out of the society that birthed and raised them, for it is that society that also formed their outlook on life. It was this, as well as the inspiration of the heroic and selfless deeds of other heroes, that would encourage them to such heights as to attack a Rikti Dropship or to attempt other seemingly impossible tasks.

  12. In my experience, assuming you have 2GB of Memory and a 2+ GHz Core2Duo CPU (or equivalent/better), Zoning speed is largely based on the I/O speed of your hard drive.

When I upgraded from a single drive to a 4-drive RAID-5 array running on a 3ware 9650SE RAID Controller card with a 256 MB cache, I found that I zoned much, much, MUCH faster.

So, upgrading the drive that your CoH sits on to a SATA-II Solid State Drive (SSD) with a 270+MB/sec read rate (most new ones have this) will result in MUCH faster zoning as compared to a conventional spinning-platter hard drive.

    Role playing?

After five years of playing CoH, I think I can say that any desire for superhero roleplay of any level from street-level up to epic would be better served by participating in an offline, table-top roleplaying group, doing HERO system (or any other RPG) gameplay.

No matter how focused you may be on your particular situation, in CoH you're in a world that's filled with thousands of other players who are all "out of character". At best, it's distracting. At worst, it ruins the mood you're trying to build, again and again.

Unless everyone's focused on roleplaying, it just doesn't come out well -- even in a table-top game. At least in the table-top RPG you can choose and filter who you're playing with; keep the good roleplayers, don't re-invite bad ones to the game.

  14. Oh, Kheldarn.

I'm so sorry, I know what that's like.

I lost my dad a few years ago.

It's a terrible thing to go through.

    Hang in there. *hugs*

The best thing about Sets are Set Bonuses. While individually small, these bonuses add up to be truly significant when all your powers are properly and carefully Setted. The difference between a Fully-Setted toon and one stocked simply with all Common IOs can be seen and felt beyond the mere fact of "To Hit" or "Damage" bonuses being capped.

The Fully Setted toon will have a wide array of Recharge bonuses, Regen, Defense, Resistance, Accuracy, Mez Resist, Knockback Resist -- the list goes on and on -- not to mention the secondary attributes given to powers that normally don't have them -- like Knockdowns, Holds, extra Damage of different types and more. The add-up to all of this means your toon will fight harder without running out of END, give out more damage-per-second and be able to take more damage.

So before going down the Frankenslotting Route on all your powers (Frankenslotting being, in my opinion, only useful on certain powers, such as Health, where you would Frankenslot one Numina +Rec/+Regen, one Miracle +Rec, and one Regen Tissue +Reg, etc), be sure to consider your other options.

After all, prices in the post-merge market have plummeted, and so you could employ your 400 million to good effect.

However -- and I cannot stress this strongly enough -- you can very easily make mistakes. Many respecs later you may realize you wasted a lot of INF.

How to avoid this? Use an offline character and enhancement build planner, such as MIDS. Used properly and with a lot of careful thought and tweaking, you can make sure you get the most bonuses across all your sets before actually buying a single one -- not to mention make sure that your build's powers are taken in the order best suited to being Exemplared down for various Task Forces and Flashbacks, so that you'll still have everything you need at Level 15, 20 or 30.

You can download MIDS for free at: http://www.cohplanner.com/

With all that being said, you may also want to wait until the next Issue is released before diving in and making all your purchases, as in it, Fitness becomes an inherent power. But by all means, experiment with MIDS for now. It's a great resource in helping you to understand Sets and Set Bonuses.

Last but not least, remember that you don't get bonuses for IO's of any type that are of a Level that is higher than your Exemplared level. So, if you're in a Level 40 Zone or on a Task Force, Trial, Flashback, etc., all of your Level 50 IOs will not be giving you any Enhancement or Set Bonuses (Purple/Unique Sets are an exception to this, and they will still give their Set Bonuses).

This is why it is often better to get lower level IOs than 50 -- the difference in enhancement bonus of a Level 40 IO vs a Level 50 IO is not that great, and the Level 40 IO will keep on working in a wider range of scenarios.

This part seems patently unfair to me. Defense-heavy characters have to chase their opponents while Resist-heavy ones don't? I call shenanigans on this one...
I'm not sure I agree at all with shenanigans being called when referring to this idea.

I think it makes sense that any enemy, realizing that they are outmatched and in danger of being arrested or worse, would try and flee.

It also makes sense that they would come to such a realization faster if they couldn't land a hit on their attacker versus if they were actually hitting them.

It's better that they try and run than be mindless sheep, isn't it?

To answer this question directly, Vengeance will only affect the team-mates of the caster, and can only be cast upon a fallen team-mate.

However, there is a way to multiply the power of Vengeance if you're careful and not doing it in a rush, which can make it into a truly potent technique.

Specifically, this refers to stacking Vengeance.

Normally this cannot be done. However, if multiple people on a team have Vengeance, and all have targeted a fallen person who is outside of their target range and have the power queued up, then the fallen person is teleported into their midst, all the Vengeances will go off simultaneously and stack. Two, three or four Stacked Vengeances on top of conventional buffs can make a team unstoppable for a short while.

However, you need to really practice this and be quick on the draw with fast commands / binds / what-have-you (Vengers, to me! Target $target! Queue Vengeance! Teleporting $target!) in order to make it happen fast and successfully on a CoP Trial -- there's usually not much time (if any) to waste on careful maneuvering like this when several spawns of Rularuu are attacking you.

  23. A lot of people have good, time-saving techniques, like Puce & Khel.

But if the underlying problem is that you hate crafting like Philly does, that's that.

Your only recourse is to buy pre-crafted IO's at Wentworth's.

They're a lot cheaper than they used to be, and in many cases you can buy different kinds of Common and even some Set IOs for less than they would cost to buy all the Salvage and craft them yourself. Just be patient. Toss some low bids out there for what you want and see what is on the line after a few days.
