Yeah. Bejeweling is more a rogue than a villain, and actually sits at Rogue alignment. She's a lot of fun.

One of my goals with villains tends to be making sure they're not jerks. Yeah, sure, they're evil and all, but that's no reason to be rude about it. It also makes teaming easier. Being an anti-social jerk might seem badass and cool, but nobody likes you. I've noticed my villains end up being almost kind of chipper sometimes.
  2. Hm. Well let's see. Something I should mention. I'm heavily influenced by the DCAU, and it affects my style.

Bejeweling, my Earth/Fire Dominator - she also goes by the title of the Bavarian Bombshell and has volcano powers thanks to her theft of a gem from what may have been fueling one of Vulcan's forges (otherwise known as volcanoes). She's German because I get very annoyed with people making every single German villain a Nazi, and she's not. At all. Also, I can't pull off a cheesy French accent in-game to save my life (I'm not kidding). Bejeweling is very pulpy in style, and meant to harken back to 1930s serials and characters like Roxy Rocket from Batman: TAS. If Roxy could take out a building.

Her primary motivations are money and thrills and a deep-seated rebellion against authority. She has an odd idealistic streak to her personality, and while admits that she's not really a good person, she likes to think that's an honorable one and has limits. She prefers crimes with artistry to them, and crime that has a degree of craftsmanship to it. She's old school, and has little respect for villains that rely on crude methods like mass slaughter to do the job.

She grew into a supervillain out of boredom with the mundaness of every day life, starting out as an unpowered thief as a way to amuse herself and blow off steam while at university. She later broke into the big leagues. A lack of ambition and glory to it, a frustration of going through the motions. Life should be glorious, in her view. She does this by living larger than life, stealing fire from the gods (literally). She probably could have become a hero if things had gone differently. While she'll do deathtraps and stuff, the idea of an inglorious end to a worthy hero (I suspect she regards it much like dueling) is something she despises. As she puts it, "There should be Valkyries."

Reanimistress - my DP/Rad corruptor - a mad scientist who lost the ability to die permanently in a confrontation with a hero that went badly. Her primary motivation is her own curiosity and desire for knowledge, especially over the secrets of life, death, and creation. She does stuff, such as construct Frankensteinian brutes out of corpses, vat grown material and whatnot, primarily to see if she can. She's insane in the sense that she believes she's advancing knowledge, but it's mostly her indulging her curiosity... and she has almost no limit to how much she'll indulge. She's whimsical, even charming... and she has a tendency of shooting lab assistants that fail her and reanimating their corpses as servitors.

To her, heroes are an annoyance for the most part. She enjoys the conflict on occasion, just for the challenge it represents. The best enemies are rare, wonderful things that keep you on your toes and should be savored.

Stormhulk - Sonic/Dark corruptor, but might reroll him to something else. Stormhulk is a big seven foot evil robot with a brain in a jar. He was built to be a minion... then the mad scientist that built him got caught, and Stormhulk got forgotten. Poor Stormhulk. He's fun. Stormhulk isn't really one minion so much as an army of minions... that appear one at a time. There's a factory somewhere with them, and nobody's ever changed the settings on it. Destroy Stormhulk, the next one on the line starts up and walks into the teleporter.

He's still looking for a motivation, though takes orders well beneath his loud personality (he sounds like Brian Blessed yelling through an old 1950s high school intercom). That, and y'know, destroy all humans.

I admit, part of my motivation for making him was to be cannon fodder. He's a villain, but he lacks the intelligence or ambition to really be anything above a lackey, and he gets blown up a lot. I'd go so far as to call him a professional minion, hiring himself out to minion for others.

Which is where I'm worried that they'll start hiding the high end stuff behind these things, or really start putting more and more costumes or content behind it. Right now, it's an experiment.

But the booster pack model can turn into a real money sink for players, and a distracting temptation to devs.

Oh me too, me too. It'd be adorable. And actually could be good cause to redo the Citadel TF. Save their mechakinder from being kidnapped by the Council.
  5. I'd love to see pinup art of my main, Crow Call (dual blades/WP scrapper). Crow's rough and tumble and tomboyish enough at times that seeing her as a pinup is fun and unusual. Crow is 21ish, American Indian/Hispanic by heritage, and highly athletic.

  6. D'aawwwww... I wanna see the new robot kid they build!
  7. And if folks can, post links about this on other CoH related forums so news is spread around. This works best the more people are involved. So throw it up on your SG/VG's website, on your favorite video game website's forums, whereever!

Dunno about that. They've already sold out for 3 day passes. I had to buy 3 1 day passes.

I'm assuming going through and rewriting a number of missions and task forces (like the STF, LRSF, Mender Silos, etc) that have him appearing or mentioned. It's a fair amount of stuff, and in some cases would require some pretty substantial rewrites. Case in point: the Maria Jenkins arc.

I agree. Dark Astoria has a lot more story hooks to play with. So it's the obvious choice. Boomtown... it's just sort of there. The best idea I can think of is making it being rebuilt, that or the 5th Column building a giant skull fortress there.

And having it duel a big Longboy sky carrier. >_>

I think it's because the phasing tech has to be built into the zone itself. So Independence Port isn't rigged up with States being able to phase out. And there's a ton of missions and task forces that have to be rewritten or modified because of that. It's a fairly substantial amount of work. Most likely the devs will have to go and manually rewrite all that stuff, including most obviously the Maria Jenkins arc, the Statesman Task Force, and the Lord Recluse Task Force.

That's rather disappointing. I mean, I understand and accept it, but still, was looking forward to it.
  14. Question with this. You guys are still coming to PAX East, right? And doing announcements and everything there, and not just holding off until late April to show off stuff? One of the highlights last year of my PAX East experience was the CoH panel and the Meet & Greet. Also, I've already bought the tickets for PAX East.

Actually, it's a 1930s circus strongman outfit. Not kidding. Back then, strongman costumes has capes. The original comics artists used old carnival and circus costumes for basis of the costumes. That, and it's a lot easier to draw skintight outfits.

I'm seeing some interest in such a set, but overall, my read is that it appears to be a lower priority than "old school" tights.
Yeah, old school tights come first. Something I'd love to see is a Tights version of the old Rocketeer style jacket. The jacket is just... bulky and adds about two inches to the chest on all sides. Now a tights version of that would be awesome.

Usually by the time we set a set, it's far too late to make any major changes to it.
Bears would require rejigging the entire four legged rig, I think. Bears don't move like wolves or lions, they have this loping gait. So I don't see that happening.

But something like a gorilla or giant tarantula? I could totally get behind. More variety to the pet.

With the exception of the metallic skirt/top and strappy shoes, everything is for both sexes.
  19. So would there be any real advantage to slotting in both, say, Eradication and Scirroco's Dervish damage procs into a PBAoE or damage aura?
  20. Okay, I've got a question. I'm tinkering around with my build for my Titan/Elec brute, and I've got very little experience in dealing with Lightning Field or other damage auras. What I'm wondering is, how do damage procs like Eradication, Obliteration, Scirroco's Dervish, etc. work in a damage aura? Are they an effective way of boosting the aura's damage? And for that matter, how do Interface procs work out with damage auras?

IC, I've always assumed Paragon City was designed by absinthe addicted lunatic architects. :P

And actually, most cities more than a century or two old do have extensive underground sections. It's not as extensive in American cities outside of the older ones like New York City or Boston (and because we have this odd habit of building on top of swamps), let alone the extreme catacombs of European or Middle Eastern cities, but it's not implausible if we assume Paragon, in some form or another, has been around as a city since the Industrial Revolution.

I'd still love for a warehouse entrance to a mission to be on the roof or at a skylight though. That'd crack me up.

But when there's only one AV, and 24 people like me fighting... honestly, I feel more like the army and this AV is now 24 times more badass than me. After all, it takes two dozen people to dogpile him and he's able to stand his ground. What I'm saying is the AV is trying to solo us at x8.

What I want is to be able to grab a handful of my buddies and just run the thing. 12-24 people makes that HARD, and we don't get to shoot the breeze the way you can on a TF. Even the Apex had us tossing stuff out. Quipping is a big part of superheroing, you know.

My hope is that the Diabolique whatever is closer to a Task Force in play style and execution, built around smaller 6-8 man teams where it's less about which sets of incarnate powers you're carrying and more about are you good at playing your character. Where being a tanker MATTERS, because there arn't one shot kills, and being a defender matters because you're supplying the buffs and debuffs, and so forth. Your personal performance becomes a lot more important, and not just because you can jump through the hoops on time with the rest of the herd, but because you - and your powers - matter.

I want to be able to think and talk in a trial, not have split seconds between every other thing to dodge the next barrage of insta-death or uber-power that instantly heals the AV and then blow it because one of the 24 man herd is illiterate or has scrapperlocked.

I loved the Apex, Tin Mage, Sutter, and Mortimer Kal task/strike forces. They're short-ish, they're exciting, they're challenging, they get to the point, they've got plenty of bad guys to smash and they're not so fast paced that you can't even chatter or respond beyond "group 1 south." They're also small enough that you can have a sense of being on a team. 24 man hordes are just... I feel about as important as an Ensign on Star Trek.

So basically I want a Task Force more than a Trial. I'd also really enjoy it more if it were less about "Oh, you'd better have six guys carrying Destiny(whatevers), because we have an army of Ghost Widows that spam AoE Soul Storms and have an AoE Twilight's Grasp with a radius of 11 parsecs and a recharge of half a nanosecond" and more, y'know, the TEAM. Less instagibs or huge masses of players or mandatory power sets, more about a small team of heroes (or villains!) going forth and kicking ***.

Heck, can you make it a Task Force? Or include a Task Force to cap off the DA story arc, the way Lady Grey's does for the War Zone? Because when I hear Diabolique trial, I'm just imagining 24 strangers with little chance to catch the story or talk (or roleplay! Some of us like to do that in missions, you know!) because you've only got 17 seconds to do whatever. Something that I've always liked about CoH was it's rather forgiving pacing.

This doesn't mean make it easy or hand us a victory. Just make it more like a Task Force and less like a Trial.
  24. I still really want a pet Jaeger. >_>
