I just want to know who I peeved off that I'm not getting closed beta invites anymore... :|
I feel like I'm in the same boat too. Didn't get into this or last beta, was computerless for the one before that, though I did have an invite. /sigh. i LIKE beta testing stuff. Far more interesting then playing on live.
  2. I really hope, when they unlock StJ on the Beta server to buy, that it ends up being truly JUSTICE and not JustAss

I suppose the first thing to do if I'm thinking of pulling the trigger is to pull Werner out of retirement and learn to play Regeneration again. I bet I totally suck now.

Mind you, that would take playing the game again. I've barely touched it in months. A mission now and then. I just don't like the incarnate trials all that much, and the lack of a solo path to advance upsets me to the point where it has tainted the solo activities I normally find fun. Yes, yes, I know the only reason to advance is to run the incarnate trials. But if there was a solo path, I assume there would be a solo challenge as well. Sorry, way off topic.

But yeah, back on the original subject, just about everything goes well with Katana. Heck, Super Reflexes goes fine with Katana, and it probably benefits the least since you can soft cap without Divine Avalanche, and Divine Avalanche is kind of the reason to go Katana. It'll really smooth the leveling out, though, which is a nice bonus. I loves me some Katana.
Heh come on Werner, you know regen is all clicky. We've only got 1 toggle in regen now and all the rest are click heals/regen powers add that on top of any attack set and its a bloody clickfest. I have a L50 kat/regen mouldering on Protector. Just don't feel like spending a ton of influence to try and get her softcapped to s/l/ranged for survival sakes.

Kat/Regen was pretty easy on endurance and faster then BS even if it hits for a bit less, which I really liked. BS is SLOW.

The problem is that when they do that they can't release patches and updates to the existing game because the test server has the closed beta on it.

So after a couple rounds of that they went and created a separate server to be the beta server. Making 2 test servers. This way they could put the closed beta on one and test it as long as needed while still being able to patch and update the main game using the test server.

It just hasn't gotten around to people that there are two possible servers that you could be using. Everyone is familiar with the test server but the beta is more restricted. Really only available during the open beta periods.
At first, iirc, we had 2 test servers that you could log into with just the test server shortcut. This was during issue 9 as we needed another server to test the market out by having another server that could buy/sell from/to.

After that they then created a beta server a few issues later and just originally copied test over to it so that beta testers were totally seperate from the test server, which I'm sure facilitated patches as you mentioned above.

Reminds me of the old beta bug where the power tray would just start drifting up towards the health bar

We are very excited to introduce this modern take on an enemy group near and dear to your hearts. The Art team has worked very hard to update the look while still echoing the original theme. For example, the thorny look you see on the new pieces is based on the spiky elements in the first incarnation of Circle of Thorns. As Positron mentioned, there were some valid points made by you, our players, regarding the re-vamp and we have incorporated much of this feedback into the final look for this enemy group. More importantly though, I wanted to make sure you had a chance to see an assortment of costumes in all their glory. There are literally over 70 costumes associated with this re-vamp so we can’t show all of them in one image, but we have picked out ten and put together the line-up for you below. For those of you that want to try this look on your character, some of these costume pieces will be available in the Paragon Market later this year. Here is a list of the changes we are incorporating into this enemy group in an upcoming beta build:
    • Long garments have been given to all members of this group including the minions.
    • Faces have been obscured across the entire group.
    • Some costume colors have been tweaked and toned down to be closer to the original costumes, but with others we have taken creative liberties.
    • Eye auras have been tweaked to be green on several costumes.

Still a tad wow-ish but far far better then before. I can live with this and really like some of the parts!

I do hope that you'll be giving the succubi a makeover and porting them heroside, along with the hellfrosts/lashers and adding female cot in general.

Good job on the updated look!

EDIT: WANT Those costume parts for my characters ^_^

Good point to remember. IF s/he's not done any of the stuff to earn a merit also remember the first time you don't get an a-merit, you get regular merits.

If for some reason you have a merit then probably a good idea to spend it on something like a kin combat that you can craft and sell for a fair bit using only 1 merit.
  8. you should stay villain side, going hero is totally wimping out.

The 'hidden' restaurants are the AE story-arcs most of which suck.
The Taxi Driver is the AE search interface.

The very fact that AE is used quite often for farming should tell the Devs something...and it's not "oh people are abusing the AE". They should be asking themselves WHY people are farming in the first place.

    • They hate the first 20 levels of game play?
    • They enjoy farming?
    • They need inf due to stupid high costs on the market?
    • They need tickets for rolls to get recipes/io's that just aren't for sale on the market?
    • They need tickets to circumvent the stupidly high prices on salvage?
    • They want to do ticket rolls to try and sell io's to make some more inf?
You want to kill farming? Fix the issues that cause people to seek to farm in the first place.

Do I think AE babies that don't know squat about their powers are ok? Nope! People should learn how the game and their characters work.

This is also incorrect from what I recall. They said that it would be similar to if you had combined 2 IO's but you don't need to actually combine 2 IO's of the same type. This was in the sdcc ustream.

The example used was a bad one as they talked about a lotg 7.5% recharge and said it would become stronger or some such but failed to mention how.
  11. I find the medicine pool first two power picks to be totally useless wastes of space.

If I'm going to want to heal other people I'd take an AT with a real heal so aid other is useless, same for stimulant as far as I'm concerned.

I never have slots to make aid other useful even if I wanted to use it often on others, which I don't. Usually if I feel like it I'll toss a heal/end in it and call it a day.

Aid other has enough weaknesses in it with regards to recharge and interruptibility and how many slots you need to make it a decent heal that the previous forced power choices are not needed.

Very true but I think certain toons will be able to unlock it through payment which may end up costing more than a sub anyways.
That will depend on how long you were subbed before you let your account lapse. You wouldn't be a free account you'd be a premium account.
  15. I find it rather funny that a game that people keep harping on saying is about grouping doesn't allow free accounts to start groups when that's a key thing that will keep them subscribed instead of dragging out their xbox and playing any other single player game.

It's going to be funny watching a dozen f2p accounts trying to group up together only to realize they can't.

Really. Not allowing free accounts to start groups is a poor move.

Very true with the fanservice rule and serafina looks nothing like a genie at all

*Yes, you have the option to Grant Ivis. Setting aside arguments about the GI's merit, it's still a power pick wasted on a power you may not even want and will never use. That's wasteful and a stupid, un-fun choice to make players decide on the lesser of two evils.

IMO the prerequisites on pool powers are unneeded and are just an annoying restriction that doesn't add any fun to building a character. They should be removed on ALL pools and the only restrictions be the number of separate pools you can dip into and the level you can take the powers.

  20. Here's what I'd do with Swan more or less.... Takes into account her current look, her magical/psionic origins and spruces her up a bit. The shoulder bits could stay or go...

I have a tendency to kill the last few runners as well before zoning out, so it wasn't an optimal run. If I hadn't wasted all the time chasing the running LT and two minions (making a video of a run really does show you exactly where you're wasting time:/), it would have been around 2minutes 27seconds.

And with DB being slower due to Typhoon's Edge being balanced around the Sweep combo, it makes sense if you're running in the 2:30 to 3 minute range with accounting for luck with damage inspirations.

So either way you're not going to be getting an 80-90 second run without the investment in purples for all the outside and scale-able buffs.

I'd think they'd do what TopDoc suggested and probably kill insp on zoning, even if that was only IN the AE building as they can control stuff like that in locations. They prevent that kind of thing with confusion and entering/exiting pvp zones. So maybe they'd do something like that in AE if it was a big deal to them.

Ah forgot about the empowerment spawn. I wanted to compare raw unboosted except for hasten times from claws vs db. So without the empowerment spawn.

I was hitting about 2min 30 seconds to 3 min and that just seemed slow to me...with the occasional death here and there as I'd suddenly get spiked for some odd reason.

Not really looking for player costume requests in this thread (please put those in All Things Art); rather, I'd like to know which characters make the game come alive for you visually.

    Thanks,
    NS
Probably a day late and a dollar short on my additions to this thread but I'll add them anyway just in case a Redname is still reading this.

The characters I think stand out are the following:

Banished Pantheon masks and Totems. Nothing like them in any other aspect of the game. The Totems are so damn cool i want one as a mini pet! or better a MM summons. Keep yer damn lich, gimmie that totem!

Banished Pantheon's Goddess Hequat. Her whole outfit screams cool native/primitive look, which we don't have nearly enough of in CoH. We have tons of tech stuff but hardly anything along these lines. Where are the cool headdresses/facepaint/more bone jewelery-boots-gloves-armbands-legbands options? Belts with dangling bone parts and pouches.

Clamor from the freakshow and the freakshow in general. Where are our cool freakshow parts? Cool asymetrical slasher/basher gloves and shoulder parts and neat torn clothes like she has? Or the cool back zappy items that the stunners wear? She (Clamor) has a fantastic look!

Carnival of Shadows. In general they look fabulous. Want those sashes and boots and face masks! Porcelain face masks in a few styles would be fantastic! Think Mardi-gras too...for that matter the swords the fencers use, so WANT.! Vanessa looks great, dark ring mistresses with those cool back items and sashes etc.. the torches the seneshals use! Love it all. I like the whole harlequin look compared to the standard circus clown look and they fit well.

Roman Ghost Widow and Ghost Widow. Excellent design.

Scirocco looks great too. You can just see desert nomad / arabian-esque in his whole look.

The Minotaur and Cyclopse from ITF. Great Creatures. Sad that the bull head is so piddly and you can't make a good Minotuar as a player. Too short, too tiny, too piddly, like some runt from the litter (player minotaurs).

Sybils. I so WANT Those Outfits for Players! They're really so different from anything else, sexy, flowing. So great for many concepts.

Jack In Irons has a great look too. Very Giant/ogre/evil fairytale enemy.

Swan's shawl is a classic unique piece and I wish we had shawls for the gypsy style look for players.

PPD hardsuits look amazing. Really look like powered suits of armor. Wish we had better looking armored options along those lines. It's the legs/gloves/shoulders that really make the look, not too bulky but not skin tight meshes either.

Nightstar/Vikis: The blades and whole sleek look to them are wonderful. want those blades for characters even if they're just looks on an outfit.

Asymetrical looks which I wish we had more of, like the mender belts and shoulder parts. those look great, same with the chest bands. Need those kinds of options for players. you can only do so much with gladiator shoulder part.

Arachnos Tarantulas: Have you looked at them from the side, it's a girl all crouched/bound into that robot body, freaky and cool at the same time.

Maestro with the wicked Dr Strange-esque collar and sash (we really need sashes dammit!).

Goldbricks: That jetpack was so cool looking. So sick of skyraider jetpacks everywhere.

Igenous look great especially the lava bosses. Man wish stone armor (granite) got that style look.

Ruularu. Also a really cool alien creepy look. The eyeballs are fantastic! Want one of them as a non combat pet too Glad we get them as lore pets. The wisps look really great too.

Of course there is. When I first saw Serafina back during launch I came up with my forum namesake to show that a good Djinn costume could be done without making a streetwalker. It has changed over the years as better costume parts are added but has essentially the classic genie look...not thigh high boots and bikini bottoms.

Back before we had better options

Today we even have a genie option that is very similar to Djeannie's current look in the costume creator as a default look-option. With little sleeveless jacket, the better longer pants, arm bands etc..
