Quote:If you want a defense build, I strongly recommend you keep CoF over OG. 2 specific reasons; 1) The to hit debuffs applied by CoF add directly to your defense. With low levels of defense, the to hit debuff is insignificant. At high levels of defense, they become extremely significant. Think of the difference between 40% defense vs 45% defense. 2) Many of the sets that can be slotted into CoF have large defense bonuses, and are extremely cheap.I also have an old BS/DA who has been been gathering dust for quite a while - he still has an old pre inherent fitness build. I've been trying to rework the build for more defense, and struggling...
Three points:
1. I have to have Cloak of Fear for the character concept, so took that instead of OG. This may change depending on what the new "ghost" aura looks like.
Quote:2. I've never been that impressed with death shroud, most things are dead long before the minor DOT does that much damage.
Quote:3. I have the cardiac alpha and probably will take the Ageless incarnate set,
so endurance will not be an issue.
Quote:I'd appreciate any suggestions.
What I've come up with so far. Still a work in progress -
The distinction being the "Ramia Angriffe + Iggy" mod build actually achieves something for that sacrifice; soft cap with strong damage out put and easy endurance management.
My objections to such a build design is the lack of defense debuff resistance; since you've abandoned all of Dark Armor's strengths, when it occurs the build is obliterated.
You can build BS/DA for soft cap to positional or typed with out sacrifices the builds strengths. I prefer typed for the ease of slotting (it uses less slots), but either option works fine. I'll post and example of both shortly. -
Quote:Using the build you posted, the only place you can afford to pull a slot from is Dark Consumption. Lose the damage proc in Dark Consumption, replace it with Acc/Dmg/Recharge. Leave the Acc/Rechr from Efficacy Adaptor in, move the last slot to Hasten.I'd like to squeeze a second recharge enhancement into Hasten. what do you think would be the least damaging place to take that slot from?
Quote:also: can you run Combat Jumping and Hover at the same time? I always thought travel powers were mutually exclusive
Yes you can. They are not mutually exclusive. I routinely run both on all my flying characters. -
Quote:I got two copies of the e-mail.If/when a marketing email for this is sent out, can someone give me a copy?
BECAUSE APPARENTLY I'M STILL NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO GET THESE ANYMORE!3 years and counting.

E-mail me or post your e-mail and I'll forward it to you. Desmodos@gmail.com -
yeah, my 2nd account would most likely shift to premium, depending on the restrictions. Main account will remain ViP.
-
Obviously I like the build, since it's similar to my own. While I'd disagree with a few choices, those would be a matter of personal preference.
One suggestion though, You used Touch of the Nictus: ACC/END/Heal. If you switched to Theft of the Essense: ACC/END/HEAL, Dark Regeneration would cost you 0.32 more endurance per uses with no loss to recharge. It would however boost your recovery by 0.05 EPS, because it would raise your maximum endurance from 115.4 to 117.2
EDIT: oh on the Fire Blast vs Ring of Fire thing. While Ring of Fire does more damage, it's a DoT, the damage is spread out over 9.2 seconds. Fire Blast does the bulk of it's damage upon activation, with a smaller DoT portion over 3 seconds. Additionally, the cast time for Ring of Fire is longer. Using RoF or Fire Blast lowers your DPS vs the ideal DM attack chain. (SM-SL-SM-MG). Of the two, RoF lowers your DPS more due to the longer animation(cast) time.
EDIT2: Sorry, I over looked this question.
Quote:I have found, that level 50 IOs are generally more expensive than lower level IOs. I do like my builds to be more exemplar capable as I get rather accustomed that that level of performance, losing every bonus makes exemplaring rather unappealing. In most cases, if you are using a full set, level 50s aren't really needed. If you're using a single IO or even two from a set, then you have to use level 50s as the enhancement values will be too low.did you slot lvl 30's intentionally into the majority of the powers where the sets don't go to 50 for exemp and affordability purposes? did the devs never fix that bug where enzyme HO's buff defense?
And no, Enzymes continue to work in the same manner. -
Quote:We don't have full specifics, but keep in mind side by sides are base values. Meaning, you can have a premium account and just purchase features you are missing from ViP account. Yes there will be some things you cannot purchase, such as forum access or VIP server access. I strongly suspect Global Channels would be a purchasable item (my suspicion, I have no proof/confirmation of this at this time.)My comments on communication differences is from the side-by-side comparison shown here. Premium's only channels listed are "Local, Team, Whispers (Tells)." Nothing else. VIP's specifically notes "All game channels, and can create them." The implication is that Premium cannot use any other channels than local, team, and tells, hence my earlier comments.
Did they state otherwise somewhere else? If so, they need to clarify their side-by-side significantly, as that's a fairly significant detail. I'd also love to know what they mean by "limited" for inventions with Premium accounts.
The idea here, is that a VIP account will be cheaper than having a premium account + purchasing everything that's in the VIP account. -
The way I'm looking at it, is 2 slots worth 4% smash/lethal resistance? My build has 56% S/L resistance with no resistance slotting in Tough. Just two defense uniques. Granted I achieved that via Cardiac Core and Gladiator's Unique.
-
Quote:That's about how I understand it.Premium is free. VIP is the same monthly sub fee.
Where you would look at costs is checking the different purchasable options and seeing whether the $15 for the sub fee is worth the 400 points you get to buy things.
If there aren't enough options in the store that you care about, and you only play enough characters that none are inactivated by the restrictions of not subscribing, premium would be worth it. -
Did you already make this character? If no, will Katana fit into your concept. If so, switching to Katana/Dark is adviseable.
EDIT: All of your objectives are obtainable on BS/DA or KAT/DA.
Get Atlas and Portal Jockey ASAP.
Plan on Miracle and Numina's Uniques.
Purchase Theft of the Essense: +End PROC ASAP.
You're gonna need a lot of Kinetic Combats and Reactive Armors. (not cheap)
Strongly recommend you take CoF. -
Quote:Yes, you keep them. Keep in mind, new packs will come out. Under the new system, you can use your 400 points a month purchase the items you like from future packs. If you're are on a Premium, you will have to shell out cash from your pocket. As I understand it, they want to make the VIP accounts a no brainer, the way to do that is release really shiny packs that F2P and Premium players will want to buy. VIP players will simply use their points. The way I understood it, I get to keep all the stuff I purchased, which includes the Costume Packs and extra toon slots.
In other words, as a VIP player, you no longer get nickel and dimed for shiny new packs. If you found yourself wanting most of the packs, you're better off staying on a VIP. If you passed on most of the packs, Premium may be the route for you, particularly if you have 8 alts you don't play very often. -
Are you trying to do this with out IOs? on the cheap?

Quote:I returned to CoH about a month ago after an extended absence. IO's had just come out when I left and I'm now trying to learn their idiosyncracies. my DM/DA scrapper was a joy to level back in the day, but she's been sitting at 47 now for years. I've decided to make the push to 50 and re-tool her build for inherent fitness and IO-set goodness. after attempting to do my homework and read a bunch of threads, this is what I came up with. I've softcapped to S/L/E/N without losing too much utility. I wanted to reach that goal without the Glad Armor unique, but I couldn't figure out how. Shadow Meld is for incarnate "oh crap" moments. my biggest concerns are the lack of hasten and poor overall recharge. I also don't know what I'm missing, if anything, by not working in more +hp, +end, +rec and/or +regen. help? comments?
You've got the right basic idea, but a few choices are misguided, IMHO. Soft capping in Dark Armor is rarely worth the effort. Basically, you've sacrificed a great deal of damage out put for a smidge more survivablity. 35-40% S/L and E/Ne is the ballpark objective.
*Tough is a mule for Gladiator's and Steadfast +defense. Fully slotting up Tough is of little benefit. The base values of Tough on scrapper mods make slotting else where more beneficial.
*You need A LOT more recharge. Your single target attack chain depends on it. It will also allow you to had a great deal more AoE damage.
*Dark Regneration should be available ever 9-11 seconds. At this level, you no longer need to slot heals in Siphon Life, allowing you to treat it solely as an attack. (Comment specific to DM/DA.)
* Shadow Punch should be removed from the build. Sadly, Shadow Punch is no longer ideal for scrapper Dark Melee attack chains. You're ideal ST attack chain is Smite - Siphon Life - Smite - Mignight Grasp. If you fall short on recharge, you can use Smite - Siphon Life - Fire Blast - Midnight Grasp.
* I strongly recommend switch to Cloak of Fear. All CoH negatives are over come with IOs while good and cheap sets can be slotted into CoF. CoF + DM debuffs + defense = you hard to kill.
* I strongly recommend you invest in Purple Sets for +acc, +recharge, and + Fire/Cold resistance. Not to mention high % PROCs.
* I strongly recommend you switch to Blaze Mastery. Soul Mastery is turd for DM/DA. I REALLY hoped Soul Mastery would have been better to maintain the "Dark Elemental" theme for my DM/DA. Unfortunately, Incarnates offers no such option. Then factor in that for scrappers, Fire Ball is your absolute best option for APP AoE. (Mu Mastery a close second.) With High levels of recharge, you can unleash Fire Ball ever ~9 seconds (three times before Soul Drain wears off.)
* In case you didn't know, get Atlas Medallion and Portal Jockey ASAP. Then get Cardiac Core Alpha ASAP. This will dramatically simplify your endurance management and boost your survivablity.
Here's what my current build looks like.

Quote:Look at this way, if you bought most of the packs that came out, you are WAY better off staying subscribed. If you did not really dig the packs and have 8 alts you never play, Premium is the way to go.I was wondering about this. Someone should crunch the numbers to see if going Premium, and then buying back everything you had as a subscriber makes more sense over time than staying subscribed. If someone doesn't really care about the free Paragon Points, then it probably does make more sense to go Premium.
-
Judging by the comments being made, I have to wonder if everyone understood that if you are currently subscribed now, you will never fall into Play For Free status? If you chose to stop "subscribing/paying" you fall into Premium Player status. In other words, you retains 80-90% of what you have now...with out paying for it. Anything you do lose, can be recouped by a single, one time fee; after which you keep it even though you don't pay a monthly fee.
....sorry, not seeing any restrictions here what so ever. -
For future reference, info found on Paragonwiki
Scrapper base HP is 1338.6. The cap is 2409.5.
Brute base HP is 1499. The cap is 3212.7 -
Despite largely agreeing with Dechs post, I'm gonna throw up this build.
Sadly I am behind the times when it comes to Firey Melee. I also remain a fan of Breathe of Fire despite it's bad press. Not sure what the ideal ST attack chain is, so one of these powers may be redundant. I'd actually appreciate advice in dropping a power, would simplify some slotting for me.
FM/DA as a bit low on my priority list, but when I get to it, the build will look something like what's posted below. This build is of course unplayable without Accolades and Cardiac Alpha.

Truthfully, all of them will benefit nicely from Incarnates. I suspect, Spines/Dark Armor will have the most dramatic improvement. Notorious for endurance challenges, Cardiac will make things simpler, but as you work up the tiers, the damage resistance of Cardiac will begin to dramatically affect your survivablity.
As with every build, Reactive will start to boost the damage out put via resistance debuffs and dot (I recommend focusing on DoT).
Despite the popularity of Musculature, I actually recommend Cardiac for Electric Armor. While Electric has minimal endurance concerns, the resistance buff to Electric goes a long way. -
Quote:I wasn't suggesting the contrary. But by their very nature, such powers have minimal impact on Dual Blades. Their base recharge is too long. Even Dull Pain doesn't recharge fast enough to have any real impact.I had assumed you meant DP and PB and just accidentally called SR WP.
I don't think it's uncommon to use tier 9s midcombat, though if you can't wait until a combo has ended to pop your tier 9 then you didn't plan very well TBH (not that I haven't been there).
Contrast those to Dark Regeneration, Healing Flames, or to a lesser degree, Energize.
Regeneration is obviously the worst culprit, granted all it's click powers are quick animating. -
Quote:Hence I said very little. While Knock downs make for decent mitigation, with Dual Blades you can't just chose the knockdown power "as needed" with out sacrificing damage out put (cancellation of a combo). Compared to mitigation options of some of the other scrapper primaries, it's just not as effective. This not to speak ill of Dual Blades, it's simply the trade off for a set that offers great Aoe and ST output in the same attack chain.Knockdown is a pretty handy form of mitigation, and if (at lower, non-hastened and super-recharged) levels you're just alternating between Attack Vitals and Sweep, that's AT LEAST three knockdowns for every six attacks! (Okay, that's assuming that you don't miss, and assuming that the villains don't have some sort of knockback protection, but against a lot of villains, my DB character can do a pretty nice job of keeping the boss in a particular group either knocked down or getting back up -- which keeps him from attacking me very much!)
Quote:Willpower really IS "turn on and forget": High Pain Tolerance, Fast Healing, Quick Recovery are "always on". Mind Over Body, Indomitable Will, Rise to the Challenge, Heightened Senses are toggles. Strength of Will is a Tier 9 toggle that a lot of people skip.
I guess you could call Resurgence a "click power" but if you're faceplanted anyhow...well. That's not "mid-combat."Ironically, the one click power I was referring to, in all three secondaries was the 'optional' tier 9 power.

You really can't go wrong with any Scrapper Secondary with regards to Dual Blades. The only real concern is click powers in the middle Dual Blade combos. With the exception of maybe Dark Regeneration from Dark Armor, I believe if you use your click powers immediately after a Dual Blades attack, you should pull it off with plenty of time for your next Dual Blades attack. 1000 Cuts is the biggest concern because the 'timer' begins with the attacks animation, Dark Regeneration will cause you to "time out" the combo when used after 1000 Cuts.
Another thing to consider is Dual Blades offers very little in the form of mitigation, so you are relying almost entirely on your secondary.
DB/WP, DB/INV, and DB/SR are the easiest because the secondaries are pretty much just turn on and forget. (Yes Invulnerability and Will Power have click powers but they are not used frequently mid-combat)
DB/DA, DB/Elec, and DB/Fire all add more AoE damage via damage auras and have only one click power to time mid combat.
DB/Regen is the only combo I would advise against, but my opinion on the set is biased as I generally do not like Regeneration as a secondary. -
Quote:Typical that was pretty much the response I expected - basic - your points are valid so I cannot argue with that so I will attack you grammatically or on some other grounds.
I was not aiming at anyone in particaular and was expressing my opinion as well but you proved my point in that my opinion is inferior to yours because it is not in line with your thoughts and feelings.
Listen like I said I respect your views and I am sure you are likely very knowledgeable about the game in general, I just want to make the point that some people simply enjoy farming and it is no more complicated than that and overall I see a lot of animus towards people who do and the post was simply a compilation of past posts and current insighting a response in defense of farming as simply a play style.
This in a thread where I made post supporting AE Farming?
There is nothing wrong with folks expressing their opinion against farming. That does not mean they are attack folks who chose to farm. -
Quote:1) Punctuation is your friend. You know some people do enjoy farming. I have noticed with this game more than any other mmo I have ever played and I have been playing them since right after acheron's call released that the intolerance of the way other people spend their time in this game with absolutely no impact on other peoples is mind boggling, I am completely content to mindlessly farm all the time not because I need the money or because I am greedy but because I like to destroy massive amounts of people, I like to tweak my build to find what I can do to improve my times what tactics I can use to become a little better and I like the randomness of the ticket turn ins, I don't like to group except with friends and I hate running missions I just really like to go to AE make a couple farm runs then log off and go do something else. It amazes me that people are so judgmental about what other people are doing and have such a narcissistic approach about why can't everybody play exactly like me otherwise they are doing it wrong, but fortunately I do have a solution though if people don't like me farming then they can pay my subscription and then I will play however they would like me to. Sorry I just felt like I needed to get that out there I see a lot of anti farm animosity, but I don't see many people from the other side express their feelings on the matter, and while I completely respect your views that farming may not be for you all I ask is that you respect ours of being content to go into AE and never come out ...except maybe to do some incarnate stuff then go back in and well do what we do.
2) Not really sure who you are aiming this at. Folks are just expressing their opinions.
3) Maybe decaff? -
Quote:Keep in mind your choice is certainly valid, but it remains up to the individual. The CoF concerns you outlined can easily be overcome with IO Set bonuses that happen to compliment other areas of Dark Armor very well.My problem with Cloak of Fear is that it costs far too much endurance in a set that's already heavy on consumption for a very inaccurate effect that's not even solid control. To make it borderline useful, it requires at least three additional slots. The -tohit may be nice, but it can't be counted on against high level enemies or AVs.
OG, on the other hand, costs a fraction of the endurance, is accurate out of the box, is control that cannot be bypassed once every few seconds, and only requires the base slot. The HP cost is a pittance to the damage it saves you from taking, and the power lets you use the endurance and slots you saved to kill things faster.
An argument could be made that on high defense builds, OG costs you more HP than it prevents.
In the end, it comes down to the rest of your build (or rather IO bonuses you acquired.) For me, and how I build Dark Armor, Cloak of Fear is the superior choice.
Another note: this is specific to scrappers. Since Brutes and Tankers can attain higher resistance values, there are builds where the argument can sway in either direction. -
