    Startup Problems

Okay... so I updated my drivers for my graphics card, and nothing happened. I clicked the box that said "safe mode", and it started up with ease, but at 800x600, not my desktop resolution. I tried resetting my settings in game, but I need to restart in order for those settings to take effect.

Now that I've restarted, I'm back at square one, where it's hanging on the "loading" box in the middle of the screen.

I've turned off TOR/Vidalia. Any other suggestions?

Thanks, Gaia! So, if I back up some stuff to an external, per se, and cleared space off, it should help?

I'll definitely do this, but could it be something else?

Sorry for the wall of text, but that's what you asked for. Any advice so far?

    Startup Problems

I asked this question in the "Player Questions" section, but this might be the better forum. So, here's the same question:

I might be posting this in the wrong thread, so if I am, please forgive me (or, feel free to move me to the proper area).

I recently got my desktop computer working again (power supply went bad a few months ago), and was looking forward to playing CoH/V on my newly restored machine, with brand-spanking new monitor. I download all the patches necessary, and went launch CoH/V. The only thing that happens is the little window in the middle of the screen that says "Loading..." stays up, and never brings up the main window. Everything up to that point seemed to be working.

I tried rebooting, then verifying all the files, and even did a complete uninstall/reinstall, and I'm still having the same problem. It just hangs up at the "Loading..." screen, with the rest of my desktop visible.

Has anyone else had this happen? Is there any way to troubleshoot and find out what is wrong? Or maybe someone else had the same problems, and can offer a solution? Any help would be appreciated!

Sorry for the wall of text, but that's what you asked for. Any advice so far?

    Startup Problems

  8. I'm currently leveling up a DP/MM Blaster (level 39, my highest blaster ever), and need some help picking out power pools. I know what each power does, but I'm not sure which is right for me. I've narrowed it down to three that stand out for me, but I'm open to any and all suggestions.

    1. Cold Mastery (+S/L Def toggle, self heal/Max HP/OH CRAP button)

    2. Munitions Mastery (Surveillance, LRM missle, but I'm not sure body armor is worth it)

    3. Primal Forces Mastery (Extra AoE power, S/L resist toggle, possible repel, and of course PFF and FON)

Those are the three that I'm looking at so far. I realize that Mace mastery has a +Def S/L shield as well, as well as spiderlings to summon.

It might help to know what this character is and how I play him. He's a PPD faithful cop who's latent psionic powers emerged during a run-in with the Clockwork King. I play him very hover-blaster, staying at range and blasting away. I have TK Thrust on auto if anything gets too close.

I'm not really looking to soft-cap S/L or ranged, so that's not really a concern. It would seem that with him being PPD, he'd have access to the Munitions Mastery, and the extra AoE and -res would be nice, but I like the possible survivability of Cold Mastery.

Any thoughts? I'm open to all ideas.
  9. Hmm. Thanks Dechs. I was thinking that since click buffs like Hasten carry over that it would be similar to that. Oh well. I haven't noticed whether or not fortunes carry over... do they? Or do they fall under the same header as Secondary Mutation?
  10. Hey guys... I apologize if this has been covered in other threads, but I noticed on my WS the other night that when I clicked on the Secondary Mutation temp power, the buffs went away while I was in my forms, but came back when I was back in Human Form.

Has anyone else noticed this? Is this WAI, or something that needs to be discussed so the Devs can address it?

    Thanks in advance!
  11. One of the major perks about Ninjitsu is that you get all of your +Def from two toggles, rather than running a lot of toggles and taking passives (like SR). That, plus the self heal, is a major for me.

    Power Boost

I'm currently running a Mercs/TA (mostly solo.... yes, I'm a glutton for punishment), and was planning on taking Black Scorpion's pool for the +Def shield, but was wondering about Power Boost. On /TA, what powers will it affect, and will it be worth it to take? I took Power Boost on my Thugs/Poison, and enjoy it on him, but I was just wondering on /TA.

Anyone use Power Boost on any /TA characters and have any feedback?
  13. That's not the way Going Rogue is going to work, at least from what I've interpreted from my own reading.

Once you've switched sides, you'll still have the same powers (i.e. a Bots/Traps or Thugs/Poison will still be the same character with the same powers). You won't have other options to suddenly roll up another buff/debuff secondary just because you're suddenly a "true blue" hero. Same with blue side... you won't be able to roll up a Defender with the Pain Domination primary... you'll still be a ???/??? defender with your original powers.

You still have to start out in either Praetoria or Red Side/Blue Side then go through the character transition, thus already haven chose your powers.

Like I said, it might not be exactly that way, but that's my understanding of how things will work with the expansion.

    Demons Shield

I noticed the values for the shield that the tier 2 Demon auto-casts... and saw that the resistance to fire was 6.66%. Was this a little inside joke :P?

Thanks, SaintNicster.... I'll try that... but will doing that allow me to run more than one instance of CoX? Do I just start up a new updater window while in windowed mode?

    Windowed CoX

I've seen people have City of Heroes/Villains pulled out into a window form, rather than full screen, and I'm not sure how to do it. Is there some trick? Maybe something in options?

I'm also curious as to how to run two versions of CoX simultaneously, seeing as how I have two accounts. This has come about as a need for myself since the LCMS Wireless bug that hit once I17 went live.

Any help on either of these issues is greatly appreciated!
  17. I looked all over the usual places that bugs would show up on the boards, and couldn't find anything about this... so apologies if this is a double post.

Has anyone noticed the casting animation for the vet attacks (Nemesis Staff, Blackwand) seem to be bugged? Instead of the usual "Draw the weapon --> Overhand cast" to starting off with the weapon towards the ground, then flicking it upwards to cast. I tried this on two different characters, so I don't think it's isolated.

If it's a change to the casting animation, it's herky-jerky and not an improvement at all.

Is it happening to anyone else?
  18. As long as we get the available pistols from in game, I'd be happy. Have them as unlockables (i.e. "Wolf Spider badge"). Also, when Maelstrom becomes an in-game foe, I'd love to be able to unlock his Dual Pistols. Those things looks sleeeeeeeek .

But, also, any version of Socoms, Berettas, Colt 1911-models, or anything a little more realistic would be cool with me.

Except that there's no hold in /MM for Blasters. There's an immobilize, but no hold. Unless you've slotted Gravitational Anchor: Chance for Hold in Subdual, then you've got no holds in /MM.
  20. If I remember correctly, it's +30% damage, and some generous +to-hit. Plus, with basic SO slotting, you can slot for recharge, and keep it on 3 henchman at once. That's not bad *at all*. Put it on your Oni and your two Jounin, keep one of the Jounin smoke-flashed, and you'll see orange numbers flying like crazy.

Trust me, Forge is godly. It doesn't need all that extra stuff you're expecting.

I'm curious... how does the -Res in Sonic's attacks boost the -Damage in EF? How are the two linked? I like to think I have a pretty good grasp on game mechanics, and this doesn't make sense to me.
  22. So, I'm working on my "Marshall" badge for my brute, and wanted to know something. I've used Ouroboros to get quite a few badge missions under my belt (since I out-leveled their content on my way up), but when I went to look for the "Defeat All Arachnos Personnel" mission (by Willy Wheeler, level 15-19), I couldn't find the exact mission. The only thing in Ouroboros that I saw was for the story arc "There's a sucker born every minute", which seems to not have that mission in it.

Am I overlooking something about this? Am I missing something? I'm looking to get the "Paragon of Vice" badge so I can get my Marshall badge, and accolade.

Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!
  23. This show, and Chuck, have lots of product placement for CoH/V. I've noticed cardboard stand-ups, a FREEM! tshirt on a model in the corner of the comic store, and on Chuck several end-caps. I'm always happy to see great public displays like that!
  24. It's a mistake in the typing of allowed sets. The only thing the Lich debuffs is To-Hit. The Grave Knights debuff defense with their broadsword attacks, and debuff to-hit with their self-heal and ranged attacks. The Zombies only debuff To-Hit with their self-heal, but don't debuff anything else.
  25. It makes sense to say that the Drones are pets, and anything attacking them is going to draw the Bots' aggro. But the thing I don't get is... why is it spotty? I mean, 80% of the time, they don't respond. The other 20%, they'll run around the corner, INTO line of sight, when I was out of sight.

It just doesn't make sense for it to be on again/off again.
