Seeker Drones & Pet Aggro

I've noticed something on my Bots/Traps. When I set up all my traps around the corner, away from line of sight, and put my bots away with a goto (still in defensive), I'll use my Seeker Drones to pull my foes to me.

Most of the time, the bots do nothing, and wait for the foes to attack me. No problem.

Sometimes, though, the bots immediately run around the corner as soon as the Seeker Drones are attacked, causing me to have to hit "Defensive/follow" over 9000 times just to get them back in my protective area.

What's causing the inconsistency? Is it a proximity thing? If I summon the Drones too close, are the bots more apt to respond, than if I were to summon them out of their aggro range?

I'm pulling my hair out here trying to figure this one out. I would prefer for them to not run to the mob at all, just let the seekers pull them to the bots.

Any explanations?

I've logged a metric ton of hours on my bots/traps, and I've never seen them not aggro when the seekers get hit.

That said, I've never tried the around the corner trick. All I can say is try it a lot more, try to gauge distance. See if you can figure out whether it's LOS or distance that's the trick.

Also check your combat logs. It's possible that you were attacked by a stray AoE that missed you, so you didn't notice it. If that's the case, the bots would retaliate immediately.

The time I've noticed it have always been around the corner, pulling the baddies my way. Completely breaking line of sight. There's no chance a stray AoE could be coming my way, because I'm completely away and around the corner from what I'm pulling with the Seekers.

I'll try to see if it's a proximity thing. But, that doesn't make sense to me.

Seekers are pets, so if they're attacked any Henchmen on Aggressive or Defensive will attack their attackers.

At least I'm pretty sure that's how it works. If you want your bots not to aggro have them on Passive until the alpha happens and then switch to Defensive before the mobs round the corner.

Passive mode is correct. Seeker Drones are pets, when they blow up they are technically taking damage (they lose all their hp), so in bodyguard mode = you've been attacked !
Carnifax is right.

It makes sense to say that the Drones are pets, and anything attacking them is going to draw the Bots' aggro. But the thing I don't get is... why is it spotty? I mean, 80% of the time, they don't respond. The other 20%, they'll run around the corner, INTO line of sight, when I was out of sight.

It just doesn't make sense for it to be on again/off again.

As near as I can tell, it's based on how the Seekers die. If they manage to zoom in and blow themselves up without being attacked, then they register as defeating themselves. If an NPC attacks them, then that NPC gets added to the pet "Avenge me!" queue. Sometimes this will happen even for an attack that hasn't landed by the time the Seekers go boom. (In the same way that pets in Defensive follow will sometimes aggro on an NPC that doesn't appear to have attacked you yet. The NPC has become aware of you, and probably queued up a melee attack or a short-ranged attack like the shotgun burst. Your pets register that it is hostile, and has an attack that is targeting you. Fire at will!)

Simply hit defensive follow (BG) BEFORE casting the seekers, and once again about 2-3 seconds after. This will completely solve your problem. I do this on my Bots/Traps when I do seeker alpha jump-ins, which you can see in my missile swarm video in the Mastermind forums.

Explanation: for the first few seconds after you hit defensive follow your pets won't respond to attacks. Hitting it a second time after the seekers are destroyed will clear their aggro "to-do list" and make them responsive to the first time any of you gets hit. If you're hit shortly after hitting defensive follow the second time, it will take about 4-6 seconds for them to respond to a new attacker.

If you want to see this is in action, simply look at my video. Should be in the first few pages in the MM forums.
