Yea...maybe have someone who's not one side or the other do those kinds of interviews so there's a balance?

Why the heavy load of pvp questions for Castle? (counting a 4 to 1 ratio of pvp to pve questions) Usually, I'd put Castle as the powers guy, so I would have figured questions about gauntlet, GIS (greater ice sword), etc, etc.

And yeah, I use extreme language, because sadly that is the only kind of post that has a chance of being noticed. The devs ignore calm, mild, moderate posts.
[/ QUOTE ]
Untrue. I talk to the devs like actual people, usually in a friendly, or otherwise sincere, tone. And I've received responses from them too, and <gasp> bug fixes and game enhancements
Shocking I tell you! Just simply shocking.
[/ QUOTE ]
And at the same time, even if you speak in a calm, friendly manner with a honest question, they may not respond. (Thinking along the lines of pm's more than regular board chat)
As to the return of the invasions, eh. Already got the accolades on my 2 badgers, so there's no attraction to get it on my others. But, oh, well. It's something else going on, which is nice. -

I've looked over the discussion thread from last week, and i can't seem to find it, but i'm farily sure somebody brought up how lead was about bringing the community together, or some such.. (i think it was you and Jman i believe). I think it was you who last week mentioned the Steel 70 as a community gathering, and that's why it was lead. But this week, you've got several plausible leads. But no, instead your lead is a simple contest. Is that what lead could end up being? The next contest that comes about, whether it be "design the avatar for the next redname", or "name this character" kind of things?

As some of you may notice, we covered another Test-related topic in this week's Scoop. This time the topic was the upcoming changes to the Katie Hannon Task Force, which are currently implemented on Test but which most people expect to go live with issue 10.
I'm honestly curious to know if you, the readers, think the Scoop handled the "not yet live" nature of this change better this time around. I deliberately wrote the piece from a Live-server perspective, and we also added an editor's note at the end to clarify that the changes were Test content.
The piece was directly influenced by feedback given on last week's Scoop. We really do read (and appreciate!) your feedback and try to use it to improve.

First off: the note at the bottom of the article about it being on test. (how to put this into words)...It's better than last time. Having said that, it doesn't seem.. really connected? to the article as much. Looks like an adendum at the end. But, it's better than before.
Now, the article itself. Yea, about that.. ok. From a Role-playing point of view I can see about how other scientists or whatever would be opposed to people learning recipes quickly, etc, etc.. But, good grief.. FAATHIM!? I get Q, I get Posi, but freaking Faathim?! You got a trans-dimensional being of awesome power and responsibility to comment on people earning recipes quickly? Sorry, I just don't see how that is entirely possible at all. If you were looking for more scientists, there's all the science contacts in the game, including the ones stationed in atlas and galaxy.
Secondly: was it a slow news week or something? Now granted, I don't read the papers much where I am in Iowa, but I would assume that newspapers don't use space on their front page looking for a contest for the paper itself.
I retract the bit about slow news week. The article about cancer awareness should have been lead. There's something a large amount of the community could relate to in some way, shape, or form. (I would assume) From a RP stance, one could see many heroes supporting breast cancer awareness week.
Thirdly, and of less importance: is there a reason why there was no leading intro/article to the market watch this week? It seemed kind of helpful, and was more of a lead-in to the report, rather than just throwing the numbers at us.
Fourthly, (and hopefully last): I get that in the interviews Jennifer is from Guardian, but I couldn't find where the Exeiders are from. I'd guess Infinity b/c of the Infinity Modulator, but it didn't come right out point blank like the Jennifer article. So, are the Exeiders on Infinity?
Fifthly (crap.. another one. sorry): I said it last time the scoop ran with a Sudoku, and I guess i'll say it agian: nowhere could I find a mention of what to do in the puzzle. Do I know how to do a Sudoku? Yes. Do most everybody? Probably. But for that one person who doesn't, what does he/she do? Without looking at outside sources, that person would be unable to participate in the puzzle for the week. (Yes, i know this is a really minor point, but meh. QoL feature.) In papers i've seen, there's usually even just a tiny tiny blurb about what to do.. unscramble the 5 words, take the letters to discover the secret word or some such. So, i'd suggest either make up a little blurb about what to do, or maybe some link to wikipedia or some other website that has instructions..
something like.. Arrange the pictures of these CoX people so that only one pic of each is in a vertical row and in a horizontal row, and that all 9 pics are in one of the 3x3 squares.
something like that. that was off the top of my head, and yes, i know it's quite a rough outline -

first off: anybody notice any weird spacing settings in some of the articles? Main example i can think of is in LadyK's article, the word "puberty" has like 6 spaces on either side. Seemed to bring it out more. I know this could just be my settings, was just curious if anybody else noticed this.
secondly: while I agree with Lemur's goals about the i10 beta article, it did seem to have just a touch of the.. hell.. what's the word.. "uppityness?" (not the word i'm after, just can't think of anything else atm) about being in beta. I like the background info, but it kind of just seems like "i know this" instead of sort of doing interviews kind of thing.
I know, i know i'm not making much sense. I just think it may have come off more down to earth-related to everyday person-ish if maybe the info about what was changed came from an "anonymous source"?
meh. good article, none the less. -
I knew I should have edited that post.. let me try to explain: I know how to, but there may be those that don't know how to do a sudoku. All that's in the article is the puzzle and the 9 pics representing a number. My suggestion was that if/when it's done again, put the rules (or a link to it) next to/above/below/whatever to the actual puzzle, instead of on a completely different post that people may or may not see.
-
Yea; background caught me off guard at first, but I realized it kind of looks more like an actual paper.
One mild concern: the puzzle at the end. While i'm sure there is a majority that know how to do the puzzle, perhaps a small blurb of instructions if/when this type of puzzle is done again? -
What was the deciding factor to do a quiz instead of a crossword this week?

and what is "you"? Are you a lowbie, mdi-range, 50... what?
In the past 3 issues, we have had/are going to have:
i8: Faultline. 15-25 range. Also, scanners providing unlimited amount of missions and safeguards, starting at level 5.
i9: Auction Houses: something for 50s to doStarting at level 3 or so, begin to collect salvage, and through your heroic career (or villianous reign) and improve your character through higher % boosts by the common IOs, or diversify and gain secondary and helpful boosts to those powers. Don't want to take Acrobatics to shield against Knockback? Don't have to now.
i10: Another complete rework of a zone, providing content for both sides, starting with level 35 and on.
So I have to ask, where do you fall in this level spread? Even from level 5 up, you have gained scanners. If in the 15-25 range, there's Faultline. and now, if 35+, here's Rikti War Zone. And if you're a 50, there's the auction house to help you improve and enjoy your character again. Not even to mention the upcoming co-op Task Force lvl 45+, as another thing 50s can do? -
[ QUOTE ]
While I am excited about this new expansion and some of what will be able to be experienced. I am disappointed that the lowest level characters that can do the earliest parts of it are level 35 and up. Not to mention the other co-Op zone that is for levels 45 and up. It would be nice if they also had zones for levels 20 and up. Or even 10 and up. But I guess we can't expect that since this next issue dues involve the Rikti...
[/ QUOTE ]
What other co-op zone? The only one coming is RWZ (rikti war zone), which is 35+. The co-op taskforce, if that's what you mean, is 45+ -

Rikti drop tech stuff right?
Please consider changing this to magical..
[/ QUOTE ]Something needs to be done, the last thing we need at this point is more worthless tech salvage, we can get this on any freak farm or tv farm. From here on out devs you need to make at least 1 magic faction for every tech you add in a level range or it is going to be some severe imbalances on the market.
[/ QUOTE ]
A good start would be to make all the magical foes actually drop arcane salvage. Getting tech salvage from a Legacy Chain is just plain wrong.
[/ QUOTE ]
A better start is for people to stop farming and just PTFG.
[/ QUOTE ]
And where anywhere in that person's post did it say that they were farming for salvage, instead of just, as you so wonderfully put it, playing the game? -

2 and 10 down are the only ones I am having trouble with, since I can't seem to find a reference at the moment to Libbies Grandmother, and there are currently 12 of these is so obscure it doesn't come to mind off hand, unless it's a hero thing then it's way out of my league.

so, my question is, are you calling for complete removal, or one-time use?

What's wrong with merely reducing their effectiveness to make sure players don't abuse them/need them as much? Don't take things as black and white.
[/ QUOTE ]
in what way were you thinking of reducing their effectiveness? bring them down from EB to boss level? LT level? Would that fit in with the idea of risk vs. reward? just curious, really. what's your take? -

[ QUOTE ]
If you've got some heavy -recharge on you, and the only thing you've got left is sands of mu, and that helps you survive, should that be nerfed? what about the nem staff, baseball bats, flamethrowers, or any other temp power that anyone has earned in the game?
[/ QUOTE ]
Go back and read the part where I said farmable. I'll add to that. The Vet Powers are balanced around permanent use. The shivans and bombs weren't BUT ARE BEING USED AS SUCH.
See the difference?
[/ QUOTE ]
So then would you suggest to make them all one-time use? What would that do to the people who are in a TF and are having a really difficult time with some AV? (take Lanaru, for instance) With shivys and nukes, that team that spent X number of hours (5-7 or more, depending on how well they did) would be able to actually finish the thing, instead of spending half the day and end up frustrated?
Or, what about the people who enjoy to solo and who come across an evil EB? with shivs and nukes, those people can overcome the EB and continue on their merry way?
so, my question is, are you calling for complete removal, or one-time use? -
From the way you're going, BillZ, it almost sounds as though you're railing against any temp power in the game? You're examples, the shivys and the nukes. They help in tough spots for that team (regardless of makeup). You want them nerfed b/c they're so helping? It sounds like you want all the temps nerfed, b/c they can help a team or person survive.
The 3 stealths from patrols in the pvp zones can help people survive, pve or pvp. should those be nerfed?
If you've got some heavy -recharge on you, and the only thing you've got left is sands of mu, and that helps you survive, should that be nerfed? what about the nem staff, baseball bats, flamethrowers, or any other temp power that anyone has earned in the game? Hasn't every single one of those, in some way or another, somewhere in the game, helped someone do the job that they've been given to do? -
interruptibles can't be qued up, as i remember it (going off of aid self/other), so i guess that's a reasonable way out. Though, the only problem is that "normally" (at least in pve situations), you're waist-deep in baddies when vengence is needed in any way, shape, or form, and having the power interruptible would
A) pose some problems in the middle of a fight, and
B) wouldn't it require the animation time to be extended in some way? I know that aid other and self have a couple of seconds delay (thinking 4), and with decrease interrupt time enh you can bring that down to using it in a fight. Doing so for vengence, though, would require the same thing, meaning changing the code to allow vengence to take decrease interrupt enh, i think. Is that possible? I know it's been done the reverse. (remember when hasten used to give i think a def bonus?) -
[ QUOTE ]
Now get to nerfing Shivans.
[/ QUOTE ]
if you don't like them, you don't have to use them; but you leave my shivys alone. -
if someone dies out or range of the team, when that dead person is tp'ed into your group, if multiple people have vengence qued up in their power try, when the dead man arrives, the multiple vengences will all go at the same time, and it will stack. (which is a no-no, apparently)
Apparently, people have been doing it in pvp, and i know it gets done in pve (LRSF). As already mentioned, if the people (pve or pvp) can't stack it, then hows about nem can't stack theirs, either? It's always fun to find a mob of 5 LTs. -
what i don't get is why this wasn't purged in any of the forum cleanings we've had in the past 6 months or so.
what the heck is this even doing here?
