Is not.
Probably.
I think.
Quote:Like being dead has EVER prevented a comic book character from suddenly appearing at precisely the Most Dramatic Moment (usually the last panel of that month's issue.)
Although arriving Just in the Nick of Time (tm) is really the hallmark of Andrea Blake (or as she's known on Praetorian Earth, Cassandra Dunstan). Tava just goes, "Yes, yes, can we please get on with saving the world now?"

Quote:I was fortunate enough to be able to decently crank up my settings shortly after UM went live. Then a while after that, I got my new video card (hooray for justifying it as a business expense), and now run the game with ALL the settings completely maxed out (and still getting a great frame rate). My videos look so much prettier now.Yes, yes I know I'm late. Ultra mode has been in the game for some time.
But you see, until yesterday I didn't have a system capable of actually making use of it without coming to a screeching halt. Yesterday my first new PC in three years (hereafter referred to as The Beast) arrived.
So after getting CoH set up, despite the very best efforts of the NCSoft Launcher (grr), I cranked up the video settings. "You must restart the game." Fine fine, just DO IT. I wanna see!
And boy have I seen. Having seen Ultra Mode firsthand for the very first time I am quite impressed. Excellent job Devs. The game looks absolutely wonderful. At one point I found myself just standing in front of a mission door in St. Martial because I was entranced by the shadows of the trees behind me falling across it. I have a feeling this is going to slow down leveling my Bane Spider quite a bit, because of all the pausing to admire the scenery. Good thing he has stealth.
Ah well. Come along Beast! We have heroes to defeat and banks to rob!
St. Martial is gorgeous with UM on... I'd also recommend wandering around Cimerora, Eden, the Hollows, and above all...
... Praetoria.

Other missing ones...
* Arcanaville: "You know... you're the first person I've ever met whose thoughts look like the opening credits of the MATRIX. Numbers... cascading... everywhere..."
* Leandro: "Ahhhhhhhh... what? Oh, sorry, I was just listening to you talking to yourself. Don't mind me... oh. Yeah. The warm tingly feeling's me. Sorry about that. Watch your thumb with the hammer, by the... way."
* Positron (the dev): "AGGGGH STOP IT STOP IT STOP IT... Geez, what is WRONG with you?! Owwwwwww... You thought I was who? Do I LOOK like Dark_Respite to you?"
* David Nakayama: "Not that big. I SAID, not that big. Look- NO! I don't WANT watermelons on my chest, my insurance doesn't cover chiropractic. Dude, if you make them any bigger, I'm going to need scaffolding for support."
* The Televsion (the contact): "There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission..."

My friends and I had started an SG once of characters with names like this...
"That Darn Hero"
"An IRS Auditor"
"My Accountant"
"My Cat Nibbles"
You get the idea.

Let me tell you then, that my reaction upon seeing Ouroboros trashed was "OH HELL YEAH!", Energy Morph is my favorite transformation (tied with VanguardSigil), and my main uses the Atomic aura. So yeah, I'm a fan.
Are you also the one responsible for the neat gold shimmery effect in the Mender Ramiel arc conclusion? If so, I love that effect - now make it possible to duplicate in demoediting!

The info kiosks were also being used by the gold spammers for player names.
I fully agree, though, that it'd be great if now they could use them for stuff like:
PPD ALERT: Reports of [GM] in [zone]
PCFD ALERT: Fire in Steel Canyon
CITY ALERT: [zone] experiencing [zone event]
VANGUARD ALERT: Rikti attacking [zone]
This way, folks who log in and miss the event notice can see what's up.

Quote:Oh, sure... this is MY fault. In another thread (which shall remain nameless) Dark_Respite suggested that Sister Psyche, upon finding herself in mortal peril, hitched a psychic ride on her husband for a while. It got me to thinking what sort of mental conversations might arise if ol' SP were to hitch on to various people about the game...
My favorites...
Quote:* Clockwork King: "Ugh... when you built this thing... urp... couldn't you have... oh lord... couldn't you have secured the danged brain somehow... ulp... all this bobbing and swaying... oof... is making me seasick!"
* Lord Nemesis: "Holy crap... It'd take me years.. no decades... to review and unravel all these plots... any chance you have a Cliff Notes version?"
* Captain Castillo: "Shut up... shut up... shut up... Shut Up... SHUT UP!!"
* Statesman: "Nope, no personality here... maybe over in this corner... huh... not there either... for the love of... there's gotta be some in here somewhere..."
* Captain Mako: "It's sitting right there! Right on top of the napkin! Eugh! Stop that! Just pick up the fork and knife... and for goodness sake let it die before you start... oh, that's disgusting!"
* Silver Mantis: "You know, I hate to admit it, but you're right... this IS kind of exciting... ooh... go pick a fight with him... the 50th level Tanker with the huge hammer..."
* Fusionette: "Ack! No! Stop that... just follow the hero who's rescuing you! AAAUUGHH! Darn it all, I just hooked a ride with you... I'm not ready to jump again so ... crud."
* Azuria: "They're on the counter in the kitchen. No, really... they're on the counter... stop looking on your bedside table.. they're on the kitchen counter... no... no not the coffee table... counter... kitchen... read my thoughts... NO, I don't think you need to get a hero to help retrieve them!"
* Golden Girl: "Yes, I do see how your hair moves when you turn your head quickly... what's your point?"
Quote:* Dark_Respite: "Hey... she has videos she hasn't published? Huh... she won't mind if I take a peek... what the heck? 'Manticore and Sister Psyche: The Honeymoon'?! Okay, that's it.... time for Excedrin Headache 2000!"
"Whoa... you know... hey! I'm talking to you! Yes, I know you've just... yes... that's another idea for a video... where's mine? It better be a good song. Coz I didn't appreciate that whole thing of your avatar and my husband, you know... you can really make him do anything in a video? Huh... we may have to discuss this... and you write smut, too? Can you do smut in a video?"
Actually, it's Flambimbeaux.

Quote:Actually I would love to read a Praetorian version of the story too.
Just her efforts to get up to the orbiting space station to see Anti-Matter in the first place would be interesting.
(And on Praetorian Earth, Dr. Sora Tavarisch is missing, presumed dead, having remained behind in Moscow to hold back the forces of the Hamidon while making sure the civilians got out.)

Quote:Why Matt wrote that the way he did, I honestly have no idea. You'll have to ask him - maybe you'll get an answer!Except that Incorporal=Passemuraille=No Physical Contact Possible. I have less of a problem with the Posi/Numina romance as such (except to the extent that Michelle's opus gets derailed, and I feel sorry for her
) than I do with the sniggering about *nudge-nudge* *wink-wink* action between the two of them. Why are the devs even mentioning it, especially when it does not even seem possible?
Michelle, writing fan fiction, certainly has license to extrapolate upon the relationship she posits, and that is fine. And it had the advantage of being physically possible, to boot.
Since I have not read her work, however, I suppose that some part of it might take place while Posi was sealed inside his armor, but that problem at least has precedent for a solution. I refer to Peter and Gordon's song, "Knight in Rusty Armor":
As he bent to kiss his bride
He found out he had rusted up inside
Of his battle dress
And I can't guess
How they still got married and had twins
(They came in tins!)
Every suit of armor ever made
Has a kink
Chain mail pants
With a missing link!
FWIW, my story takes place just behind the current storyline (it's now about a month behind 'GOING ROGUE', as it were - States and the gang have gone to Praetoria, brought back Domi, etc, but real full-on contact/war with Praetoria hasn't happened yet - they're going to run smack into that before too long). And a large part of Posi's problems with relationships is that he'd become so accustomed to being cut off from others inside his armor that he's afraid of getting close to people. (Sorina's problem, on the other hand, is as a soldier, she's lost too many people close to her, and because her own powers are rather weak, she blames herself for never being strong enough to really be a 'hero'.)
Sure, thanks to Dark Watcher, Posi's powers are under control now and he has his body back... but he had a looooong time to get used to being alone. (Not to mention he still has nightmares about the six weeks he was trapped in FPHQ when the 'powers went out', and he really WAS alone.)
So in some respects, had the Numitron thing started BEFORE Issue 10/11/whenever he got his body back, I might have bought into it more readily because theirs could have been a more, for want of a better/less punny term, spiritual relationship. It may never be consummated in the traditional fashion, but they'd understand each other in a way that the rest of the world (save other ghosts) could. But he's got a body back now - he's moved on. She hasn't. So unless they want to stay doomed to the 'I won't rest til I find a way to bring you back to life' notion, I just can't see it happening.
*shrugs*
But theirs is canon, mine is fan fiction. Unless Tava ever manages to become either an Ascended Extra or Canon Immigrant...

Quote:Does that mean they can change with the help of some external influence?Superheroes in love...
But yes, they mention the memory thing explicitly when dealing with Ghost Widow.
"Death is like being a living memory. All I am, all I can be, was frozen at the moment I died. We, the dead, cannot change on our own. The dead cannot move on. And the dead cannot let go. But for those like me, those still able to think and to feel, it's a curse beyond imagining. I can understand what has become of me. I can understand that I am dead, and that I am in a way, a living memory."

If folks really do seem to buy the idea that Numitron is a viable couple and want to see them together, then yeah, Sora would break off the relationship for them to be together.

Quote:That exact scene is referenced in BABYLON 5's "A Late Delivery From Avalon"...I keep picturing something similar to a story I heard long ago, I think it was a King Arthur and Mordred, but don't quote me on it.
The 2 leaders agreed to meet and talk. Each brought a handful of knights as guards. Both had told their men not to draw their swords. As the 2 leaders were speaking, an adder (snake) crossed the in front of one of the knights. The Knight drew hi sword to kill it, the other side sees him draw the sword and they attack.
Arthur Pendragon, King of the Britons and wielder of Excalibur, arrives on Babylon 5. Shortly thereafter, he gets into a fight with some Down Below thugs, and is joined by G'Kar, who fights at his side, impressed by this chivalrous warrior fighting against impossible odds. As they drink together afterward (where Arthur dubs G'Kar "the Red Knight"), Arthur tells the story mentioned above, and how it led to the deaths of hundreds of knights, even though he believed that both sides genuinely wanted peace.
As it turns out, the man who believes himself to be King Arthur was actually David MacIntyre, the head gunnery officer on the Prometheus, the ship that made first contact with the Minbari. Thinking they were going to attack, the Prometheus' captain gave the order to fire, and so MacIntyre fired the shot that started the war with the Minbari, which led to hundreds of thousands of deaths and brought humanity to the edge of extinction... all due to a misunderstanding.

Quote:More than it already does? The Paragon Studios Dev team take keen notice of the interests of the player base and usually react appropriately. Lately the players have displayed keen interest in the possible relationship of Positron and Numina. In the past they even attended the (multiple) wedding(s) of Manticore and Sister Psyche.
If the PSD decide to pounce on this trend, we may very well see the Canon of the game begin to more strongly resemble your average daily soap opera.
Quote:Developments to look forward to:
* Manticore and Sister Psyche have a baby girl, but Psyche dies in childbirth! Unbeknownst to her grieving husband, she has hooked a ride on his own daughter! How will Manticore handle it when he finally learns his daughter is also his wife?!
Quote:* Synapse has at last found love! After years of horn-dogging it with his female fans, Synapse finds true love with the spirit of War Witch in Crotoa. But theirs can only be a relationship of feelings with her being immaterial. Will their love last? Will Synapse give in to temptation and look towards Pocket D for surcease? How will War Witch handle it if she learns Synapse has cheated on her... with herself?
Quote:* Positron and Numina had two years of happy marriage before a Rikti Invasion ended in the apparent capture of his bride. After time he finally accepted she wouldn't return and began to date again. Now he has fallen in love with a lovely scientist but Numina has returned; already half way through the Riktification process! If that weren't bad enough, only Positron's new paramour has the scientific know-how to reverse the process! Will she give him back his wife only to lose her love forever?!
*sighs* Yes, Tava would do it. It'd break her heart, but she'd do it.
Quote:* Azuria found a small statuette of a greek warrior that turned out to be magical. It was an actual greek soldier from days gone by! She fell in love with the man, who could only transform to flesh form during the full moon. But alas! Criminals have broken into the Magi vault and stolen his statue along with other magical artifacts! What will Azuria do?!
Quote:* Penelope Yin, all grown up now, was shocked when Citadel approached her to ask her on a date. She refused at first, but after time finally relented. They began to develop a relationship and soon she found herself deliriously in love with him. But when another hero claims they found a pile of robotic parts that appear to have belonged to Citadel, she begins to have suspicions. Then she enters the bedroom to find "Citadel" with his chest plate open... inside he has been hollowed... the space now filled with a brain floating in a jar!
Quote:* After years of living under his curse Scirocco has finally found the spell to break it. At long last he is able to use his powers for good and not have their ends twisted to evil! He makes one last attempt to sway Ghost Widow to the light; declaring his undying love and devotion. She rejects him. With broken heart he goes over to the hero's side... only to find no one much likes him over there either.
Quote:* After years and years of trying to get back in Emperor Cole's good graces, Anti-Matter finally abandons his orbital space station to take more direct measures. Cole is receiving a report from Neuron when Anti-Matter bursts into the room. In a rage he places Neuron in a containment field and threatens to kill the man who usurped his position. During his disjointed diatribe Anti-Matter admits "I love you, you cold ba***rd! I've always loved you!" To which Cole replies "yeah, I know... why do you think I put you in the space station?"
Quote:* Lord Nemesis invests resources into tracking every relationship, every involvement, every nuance and emotion in this new version of Paragon City. His hope is that by understanding who loves whom and what alliances and emnities there are, he will be able to manipulate the whole to his advantage. After years of effort and millions of dollars invested, his faithful minions bring him the chart of inter-relations of the various heroes and villains. Nemesis examines it carefully... and quietly announces his retirement.

Typical me, I watched the trailer and thought,
