But I think it's too late. I didn't see this thread until now. Think you jumped the gun a little bit too soon.
Depends on what you mean by 'gaming'.

Most of the newer PC games, I can get on xbox. The ones that I can't, either require Steam (which I refuse to use) or have some asinine DRM scheme (that I also refuse to have on my comp).

Or if you mean 'City Of Heroes' for gaming, then I think it's going to do alright. I just want to be able to play my older games, Fallout 3, Co*, etc., at a good to very good clip. I haven't been on an Incarnate Trial yet, but so far, it's running pretty smooth at fairly high Ultra mode settings in CoH. If I can make this processor last as long as my old one, I'll be ecstatic. I don't need to run Crysis at 80FPS.

For $600, I'm quite happy with this build.

Just sayin' 'cause I had recently been reminded of that fact when...kaboom!

Edit to add: Modular cabling...the best thing to happen to PSU's ever!
I keep mine in the basement. Hovers around 70-75 even when it's 90+ outside.

When I was stripping the old one for parts, I took a look at the DVD burner...

There was a scorch mark around the SATA power connection/on the drive itself and the connection point. It was using a molex->SATA connector and that had a bit of melted plastic on it. That's the first time I've ever seen that. It was neat, in a way, but scary as hell. If I hadn't been awake when it happened, I could very possibly had a fire going.

    * Why not call it a reboot?
It’s not a reboot. A reboot is typically a restart of the story or character that jettisons away everything that happened previously.
This is a new beginning which builds off the best of the past. For the stories launching as new #1s in September, we have carefully hand-selected the most powerful and pertinent moments in these characters’ lives and stories to remain in the mythology and lore. And then we’ve asked the best creators in the industry to modernize, update and enhance the books with new and exciting tales. The result is that we retained the good stuff, and then make it better.
Playing semantic games is not the way to win over new followers. It's a reboot. Quit trying to pretend it's anything but.

    * Why do it? There is a lot of speculation out there, are you “rebooting” the titles?

This is an epic and ambitious initiative that ushers in a new generation of comics for DC Comics and will set the tone for storylines and characters for years to come. With all of the titles starting at #1, our creative teams have the ability to take a more modern approach – not only with each character, but with how the characters interact with one another and the universe as a whole, and focus on the earlier part of the careers of each of our iconic characters. A time when they didn’t have as much experience defeating all their nemeses. A time when they weren’t as sure of their abilities. A time when they haven’t saved the world countless times. It’s this period that is rich with creative opportunity as we show why these characters are so amazing, so iconic and so special.
We think fans will be excited by this approach and The New 52 will provide DC Entertainment an opportunity to aggressively reach the widest possible audience worldwide, through captivating stories and an accessible entry point. We see great opportunities to tell new, contemporary, cutting edge stories building off the best known, classic stories that make up each of the title’s back histories.
In other words, our writers can't come up with new stories so we need to go back and tell the same stories again, but act like they're new.

    (IMO)

    * Might you just introduce a new DC “Ultimate” line and give it the spotlight for a few months, then have the opportunity to bring back the other continuity? Will this all be put back to “normal” after a few months?
No – this is the new universe of DC Comics characters. This is an epic and ambitious initiative that ushers in the next era of the DC Comics characters and will set the tone for storylines and characters for years to come. This is not an “event,” because events expire.
How many times in the past have we heard the line, "This will change everything!" only to have it retconned within a year? This is an event and it will expire. They'll go back to renumbering Action and Detective Comics within 5 years, I'm guessing.

Hopefully, using my aforementioned Ambush Bug scenario.

Does anyone actually shell out the extra money for the 'variant editions' crapped out by the big two?
I do sometimes. If it's a neat looking cover and it's not overpriced on the secondary market. But religiously buying each and every cover? No, not even close.
  4. Went to it again and saw it in 2D this time. There was nothing gained by watching it in 3D.

However...I realized that Blake Lively would look most excellent in a Star Sapphire outfit. Especially the Ame-Comi version of SS.
  5. I tried at first to just move the drive over. Didn't work. (No point in not trying the easiest thing first. )

Did a format/reinstall and up until the point that I could manage to get some different mobo/processor drivers installed, it would BSOD me every time I tried having more than a single core active. Was finally able to get it working decently.

I had to laugh when I realized I had seven fans going in this box. Four from the case, one on the vid card, one on the PSU, and one on the CPU. I dunno what the optimal temp ranges are, but overclocked to 3.7ghz w/that 1000w PSU in there and it hovers around 100F. It was, 120F standing in RWZ tonight with graphics settings pretty high. Doesn't seem like it's going to overheat, but I kinda wish there weren't so many cables from that PSU, since they take up a lotta space.

I would be more worried about the guys out looking to score some niborg. Possibly with a loknar on their ship...

No, come to the Midwest. We needs stuff like that, but not in the sweltering part of the summer. Late April/Early-mid May would be ideal. It's not enough that one event increases my State's population by half every year...

  8. Apparently, XP does not play well with multicore processors. Every time I try to have the other 5 cores running, it does not want to boot into Normal mode. Gives me an IRQL error + blue screen. Turn off the other 5 and it boots normally. If I try Safe mode, it'll boot just fine with the other 5 and display them in the little panel that pops up with Ctrl+Alt+Del.

I had forgotten just how much I hate reinstalling Windows as well... /headdesk

I have never had to do this before.
There's a section on the base www.cityofheroes.com page to download the client (in the My Account section on the left side). Dunno how long it'll take though to dl/update everything.
  11. Watching the second series/reboot/whatever that is Negima!? and Mahoromatic (sic?). The Negima!? reboot is weird. It's a completely different story from either the manga or the first series. Have no idea where it's going, but at least Zazie gets more screentime.

Mahoromatic is one of those classic series out there. It's a Gainax series, so be well aware that the action that gave rise to the term "Gainaxing" shows up a lot.

Both are worth watching, but for different reasons.

Downside of moving it to Florida? Mosquitoes the size of a Buick.
  13. I just don't have any interest in going there. *shrug* That holds true for places like NYC as well. About the only place I'd really want to visit in CA is that forest of which I am blanking on the name ATM. I come from a State that only has about 800k people in it...I dun like being around more people than that.

I've been in one of the LA airports and that was enough for me.

I want to go just once. However, the problem with San Diego Comic Con is that it's in San Diego, which is itself in California. I don't really have any desire to go to California.

    You can see my dilemma...

This has just not been my week. My main comp went to the electronics store in the sky last night. I've just been frazzled.
  16. I'm guessing there's no real problems with it, seeing as how there's been no negative response. I'd like to get the order in today so's I could possibly get the stuff before the weekend. I'm jonesin' for my real comp...
  17. One hour of new Futurama tomorrow*. Think it's at 9pm Central, but don't recall for sure ATM.

*Gah...all week I've been thinking it's one day later than it actually is. Futurama returns TOMORROW, Thursday the 24th.
  18. I knew what you were getting at.

However, the PSU gnomes decided to have a smoke break and well, the little buggers fell asleep.
  19. Ya well, it's a 7 year old Dell 3GHz P4 w/HT. Iirc, those 8400 cases used a non-standard size PSU, so replacing that is, if not tough, then a PITA.
  20. Well, last night my PSU in my main comp died on me. Smoke coming out of it. First time I've ever seen that happen. If I hadn't been awake at the time, there's the chance I coulda had a fire on my hands. Perfect excuse to build a new comp. Or at least mostly new, as I'm keeping a few components from my old one (vid card, OS, HDD, and optical drive).

    Here's what I'm thinking:

RAIDMAX SMILODON Extreme Black ATX-612WEB 1.0mm SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Foldout MB Computer Case
AMD HDE00ZFBGRBOX Phenom II 1100T Black Edition Six Core Processor
    ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 Motherboard
    CORSAIR XMS 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800
CORSAIR Gaming Series GS700 700W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC High Performance Power Supply

    Cost (minus S/H): $595

Edit - I might swap out the power supply for:

Azza PSAZ-1000A14 Titan ATX Power Supply - 1000W, 80 Plus Bronze, 140mm LED Fan, SLI & CrossFire Ready Active PFC (It's about $40 off that list price with a coupon.) Total would go down to ~$580.

I miss the Comedy Central that had MST3k on it...

They're going to blow more money on advertising than they will ever see in returns. It's the inverse movie quality method. The worse a movie tends to be, the more money spent on promoting it.

nor the Stephanie and Cassandra Batgirls. They haven’t been killed off though, just benched.
Is there any real difference between the two things? If they aren't going to be seen, then they are effectively dead. Just more examples of killing off character growth.

The Fox tv show method of comic book production? Hey, look at the bright side...if they cancel it, they can just reboot/restart it three months later and get a new #1 out there!
