Once again, think it needs to be said...
Urusei Yatsura is going out of print in September. If you have any interest in picking up the series (50 discs just for the tv series, 6 for the movies, and 6 for the OAVs), now is the time. It's only going to get far more expensive as time goes on. Beautiful Dreamer is already hitting $60 in some places. AnimEigo's website has some of the dvds for $8 a piece (not Beautiful Dreamer though). I went through the hassle of trying to find Kimagure Orange Road after it went out of print, and that was only 12 discs. I do not want to do that again... >.<
Yes, it's an older series and the animation shows it (along with lack of dubbing). But it's still funny and one of the classics. You might recognize the name of the director for the first 106 episodes...Mamoru Oshii. The one responsible for Ghost in the Shell and a creative supervisor on an episode of the Halo Legends shorts (The Duel, the one that looks like a watercolor painting of an Arbiter fighting through hordes of Covenant). -
The Daily What - Geeks had some preview pages of Superman #1 (I die a little inside every time I think of it as being a #1) up.
Words fail me on just much of a fail it is. Both in Clark's wimpiness and Lois'...well...I don't know what to call it. They showed her "boyfriend". Some blonde surfer/model/whatever d-bag. Really...it was like watching the early years of Smallville when Clark was mooning over Lana. -
Quote:I think I got lucky when it came to PSUs. On my now defunct Dell Dimension 8400, I had the stock PSU. Was able to stick in a Radeon 5750 in there and it worked just fine. For frame of reference, I got that box in 2004. Would I have been able to get any better of a card in there? Dunno, but for a stock PSU, it was fairly good. Naturally, I may have just gotten lucky on it.Card description will normally say what sort of power connector(s) it needs. PCIE power comes in 6 and 8-pin varieties and cards typically need one or two connectors. Requirements vary by make and model. In addition to the right connector(s), you also need the right amount of wattage in your power supply. The more top tier the card, the hungrier it tends to be. So you'll need to have a look at your PSU and see what it's capabilities are. The bad news there is that name-brand computers almost always have minimalist PSUs, just enough juice to run the system on it's built spec with little room for upgrade. So for a card like what Hyperstrike suggests, I'd bet you need a new PSU to match.

Tom's Hardware Graphics Hierarchy
If you are wanting to upgrade, your starting point should be a 5850 or 6870, for the ATI brand. Using that chart, you should start looking at cards a minimum of 3 tiers higher than your present card (going by Back Blast's id of a 4850). Anything lower than 3 tiers is comparable in performance, but maybe not in price. -

Neat.
Black Cat and X-23 = teh hawt
Like the eyes of the girl playing as one of the characters from High School of the Dead
The Kaylee looks quite a bit like Jewel Staite, IMO
There's a pretty good Capt. Jack Sparrow and Tennant Who in there
That SS zombie creeps me right the hell out
The girl with the camo suspenders? What is that outfit from?
Long haired Joker is very good IMO
Pretty sure that Supergirl is actually a dude -
Is Ted Turner gonna be Captain Planet?
...
Didn't think so...

Let's see...Myka's hair has changed, and for the better. It used to be kinda curly and whatnot, but looks a LOT better straight. She actually looks quite a bit like H.G. I'm wondering if they're going to try a they're-related storyline sometime this season. Which would be really weird cuz there was this whole Foe Yay thing going on between them...
Pete needs a haircut. Plain and simple. He looks more than a bit creepy IMO.
Felicia Day was neat on Eureka. But my word, that girl needs to switch to decaf. You know that episode of the Simpsons where Apu is caught on camera thinking he's a hummingbird? Ya, that's what her character reminded me of...
Alphas was interesting, if a tad predictable. That doc is pretty naive. Humans have always been an us vs them-type species. We fear the alien, the odd, the different. An alpha will be no different. -
Quote:To be honest, what did you expect? Any time you have a mass gathering of people, with varying degrees of biological immunity and in close proximity to each other, you're going to get something in terms of sicknesses. It's not measurably, IMO anyways, of going off to college and being exposed to people from different States and/or countries. They'll have immunities that you won't and you'll have stuff they won't.... 0_0 Stop scaring me. I'm going to my first con (Hal-Con 2011, aka the second annual since the 80s I believe - to anyone familiar with the name, yes I'm aware that probably just gave away some vague idea of my location, but I don't care, in fact I'll spell it out, Halifax - general area, anyway - Nova Scotia, Canada) in November, and I'm already going to probably be nauseated due to anxiety being around so many people I don't know, now I have to be cautious concerning catching a conglomeration of convention conditions concurrently? Crap.
Plus...nerds. Not exactly big on the hygiene. -
That Camelbak idea is a good one. Just make sure that you get a cover for the nozzle. Having the part that you put in your mouth exposed to the germs kinda defeats the purpose of the whole thing. Be aware though, that with cold water in it, those things sweat. Meaning you probably shouldn't put anything in the backpack that you wouldn't want to get wet (or at least put some kind of non-permeable barrier between the pouch and the main compartment). OTOH, it feels really nice having that cold water on your back, especially in really hot situations. There's even ones that have a charcoal filter in-line with the drinking tube.
Edit - I would almost say, spend time around kid relatives. If you've got nieces/nephews, little brothers/sisters/cousins, ask their parents if you can babysit for a day or two. Why? Kids are nothing if not germ factories. If you can withstand the plagues those little buggers carry, I'd think you could withstand Con Crud. -

Quote:A story to tell that they didn't write, along with cgi they didn't do. And really, when it comes to cgi, is standing in front of a green screen any less silly than what the other guys do?Ya but those people getting paid obscene amounts of money usually have an interesting story to tell to at least some group of people and special effects cgi that sort of thing make it look good.
You know what I think when I hear the term LARP, "lightning bolt lightning bolt" and everything I've seen on the internet makes it look as lame as it sounds. -
Not disagreeing with you, that grown people whacking each other with cardboard and throwing bean bags at each other whilst wearing fake robes and armor looks silly. BUT...well...who are we to throw stones? Some of the stuff everyone does looks silly. I think grown men who obsess over sports teams is a bit silly.

Quote:That is just a hilarious picture. Reinforces my idea of DC Comics Xtreme! Brought to you in glorious xtremovision!
Well, we get a new one with Issue #2. And, well, let’s just say Smallville seems to have played a bigger part in his costume than we thought. Also, he goes from goatee to what looks to be Wolverine chops! Well, almost. Also apparently his company is no longer Queen Insustries, but QCore.
Quote:Superboy: Apparenty Project Cadmus is no longer responsible for creating Superboy. Project N.O.W.H.E.R.E. is the new origin. Hopefully we will learn just what N.O.W.H.E.R.E. stands for.
Quote:Suicide Squad: remember those comments we had when we saw the cover of #1 about Harley’s costume? Well, in #2 her corset appears to really be straining to do its job.
There can be no more "flashing" of things like Supergirls superpanties, but costumes like Harley's, wherein one moderate sneeze or hiccup would mean an FCC fine - not to mention it being apparently 8 sizes too small, is completely ok? Side note: Adam Warren, the guy who writes/draws Empowered, made a pretty funny take with Emp cosplaying as Supergirl. It's on his deviantart site.
Also, where happened to her nerps? That doesn't look at all comfortable, plus, as low as it is, she either had some cosmetic surgery or takes an undue amount of work to properly seat her girls. And that pose...eesh...
Quote:The Shade: appears to be a 12 issue series starting in October. I don’t know who “The Shade” is, but this looks interesting. -
When I was in college, I used to make fun of the guys that would run around and smack each other with foam covered-pvc. About a year or so into my graduate program, I realized that when you go to a movie? Ya, that's watching people larp for a living...and getting paid obscene amounts of money to do so.
Side note...I also thought those same guys were weird for watching anime...and now I have an anime library that fills 15 shelves of my bookcases... >.< -
Quote:I thought I saw something about that in a weekly newsletter.Back in Match, they announced there will be a new season of the Higurashi series, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kira.
Ah...found it. Supposedly, Funimation is letting the Higurashi & Familiar of Zero licenses expire and is not going to get the license for the sequel or even series that somewhat resemble them. I dunno how accurate it is, so take with a grain of salt. -

I really do need to read 'em at some point. I liked how some of Heinlein's stuff was pretty much an homage to ERB's Mars stuff.
-
Just saw the Flashpoint "checklist" in Batgirl #22. There's 37 books on it JUST for July and August. THAT is what people are tired of and why sales are dropping. At a conservative $3 per book, you're looking at $111 JUST for the Flashpoint "epic" for those two months. That's ridiculous.

Let's see...
Girl Choji was cute.
The one of Payne (and Rikku)...my word, does that Payne look like a female version of one of my cousins (in the facial area).
Female Deadpool w/ the caption thing above her head...hilarious.
There's a decent X-23 in there too.
Boomer Zombie...*shudder*
Kanamae from Bleach looks pretty decent.
Pimp Vader and Dinobot. I would watch a buddy-movie staring those two.
Baroness...aw ya... -
Ya know, I realized that the badguy in W13 was about one of the stupidest people to have ever lived. You're getting strangulated with a plastic bag? Wouldn't you, ya know, poke a hole in the plastic over the mouth? I mean come on. Granted, you'd probably get shot or something later, but still.

Willing to give Alphas a shot. Interesting setup. Less a Heroes clone than...I don't know what exactly. Tonight's bad guy reminds of a splicer in Bioshock.
