RPers can be hard to find outside of these events so I tend to advertise. My team search box states that I'm a roleplayer as does the info box on all my characters. But this is not very commonplace in game as it can sometimes attract unwanted attention.
Best thing to do is get yourself to one of the events and get chatting and see if you can find a good RP supergroup. I believe there was a thread a while ago on this board which listed all active RPSGs so it might be worth having a look at that and then contacting the people involved if one takes your fancy. I help run The Militia but feel free to drop me a line @Dante if I can help with anything. -
Looks like Pious may be out of the game for good from what I can gather although I think he may well still contribute to the Militia forum from time to time.
People come and go, it's a shame and I'm always sad to see good RPers leave but we will forge on as always. -
No problems pal, I suffer from them occasionally too and they just wipe the floor with me. The last thing I'd want to do after suffering from one is sit in front of a monitor. Take rest, drink plenty of water and we'll see you next time.

Paragon University Dorms
Saffron turned the ring over in her hands. The small, gold band glinted in the moonlight as she examined it. Sat on top of her dorm building, watching the confused citizens of Paragon City deal with yet another day of unending night, she examined the gleaming piece of jewlery. A simple gold band that would not attract the slightest bit of attention to it. But when she placed it on her finger, she could sense the power that ran through it and it worried her. How could she sense that? And why? The ring was magic, shed been told as much. But she knew next to nothing about that stuff. The woman who had given it to her had been so sweet about her gift although Saffron couldnt understand why she would so willingly give her such a precious possession. The way that the woman had smiled at her had unnerved her also. As if she knew something. It just didnt make any sense to her. A noise behind her broke her train of thoughts. She turned to see Derek climbing up onto the roof, carrying a bottle of wine and two glasses.
This was such a good idea, she said, taking the glasses from him so he could uncork the wine.
Well you know, its been a month, he replied, thats gotta be worth something.
Of course, you know Im still under the legal age for this dont you? I could get kicked out of Uni if they found me up here.
Derek just smiled as he poured the wine. Do you care? he asked.
Not in the slightest, she said with a large grin.
As they sat under the moonlight, Derek put his arm around her and pulled her close. He could tell she wasnt all there, her mind somewhere else.
Whats on your mind babe? he said.
Saffron paused before speaking. She put her hand on his leg reassuringly.
Its not us, she said. She gave a big smile, trying to assuage any fears. Its me. Ive been lazy. When I first started out, I was trying to find my father. I thought the Militia could help. But Ive been doing this for over six months now and found nothing. Other things have been getting in the way. Important things, but things nonetheless. I need to focus on what Im doing this for.
She took a deep breath before continuing. Ive been going out on my own, she said. Without the Militia behind me. Partly I wanted to know if I could do it, partly because I finally got a good lead.
Youve been going solo? said Derek. He seemed somewhat surprised.
Ive been scared D, she continued. Too scared of late. When we were facing the New Mafia, I hid in a building site. What kind of a hero is that? And you rush in to face enemies while I stay at the back and sing to them.
Babe, he said, brushing her red hair from her shoulder, Youre my girl. I dont want you hurt. I can take the knocks, you cant.
Thats not the point, she said. I want to know I can do this on my own. That Im strong enough to take on a pack of thugs without my friends getting hurt. Thats why I had to do it. I dont want to be this scared little girl anymore.
Im not sure I get it, said Derek.
Saffron patted him gently on the leg, I didnt think you would love. Youve always been this tough guy, Im not. It takes some getting used to. It takes some growing up. If Im serious about finding my dad, Ive got to start taking risks.
Does that include me? he asked.
Saffron put down her wine glass and pulled him close to kiss him.
Sweetie, she said, Youre one risk I dont regret taking.

I've sent the link for the Fantasy Football one to a friend of mine who doesn't understand gaming/RP etc but does play fantasy football. I'm expecting a serious ribbing next time I see him.
Personally, I like the one for Druids: "Hippy? Come here and say that!" -
You have my sympathy but I'm afraid that it's one of the things that comes with the territory. Certainly at lower levels, I've found people don't understand the concept of a DeBuff, let alone what an anchor is (unless of course they've done a lot of reading or are rolling an alt). When I tried my first Dark Defender there just wasn't any point in using Darkest Night on them as the boss was the target everyone went for first. Having played a scrapper plenty too, I do understand the idea of targetting the highest threat as well so I don't get as annoyed as I used to with others. The only consolation I can give you is that as you progress, players will mature and you generally leave the n00bs behind in the Hollows. I agree though, that a bind to tell others who you're targetting can help. If they ignore it, well that's their stupid fault really, you did your best.
I'm afraid that when it comes to DeBuffing, one of the best pieces of wisdom I was ever given was that "people will not understand your powers". The best you can do is persevere and hope that you get some good teams. -
Welcome back.
I rarely get a chance to get to any of the meets at 9pm these days as I'm not often on at that time but I will make every effort to get down there for at least one night this week. Hope to see you all there. -
Anyone sees a red lizard running around on Defiant, that'll be Cinderstrike, my new main on the other side of the world. He won't be getting wings in I8 as I won't qualify for them (yet!). But as he's a very young dragon his wings will come when he hits 'dragon puberty' for want of a better word.
Tara will be getting her villanous wings later on simply because of more dark energy flowing from the Netherworld and into her. The more that comes through, the more it will empower her and change her appearance, wings included. Plus, with an army of flying zombies, you need an armour clad Valkyrie at the head of the charge. -

Hello everyone.
A few months back I rolled a claws/regen scrapper as I'd read good things about the combination. I've played him up to level 10 so far and I'm finding him terribly squishy. I've had to dial down the difficulty on missions twice now and I've been to hospital more times than I can count. It's not a case of neglecting my secondaries though, so far I've taken all the regen powers except Dull Pain which will be next at 12. I just seem to be eating floor much more with this toon than I have with any other so I thought I'd ask the scrapper community, when does regen get good? How long do I need to persevere before I can start getting the villains to eat floor?
The most bizarre thing is that this is not my first /regen and I found my previous one didn't die as much as this. I'll post my build so far if it helps.
Thanks. -
I think it's regarding someone's suggestion that supergroups could be given an extra costume slot for a sort of SG uniform with rank and insignia on them.
It's only a suggestion though. I've heard nothing more about it. -
I'll be around this evening. I guarantee you I'll have someone in level range, maybe even Amber's cousin who I've restarted recently.
-
Personally, I'm disturbed that there is someone else up at this time other than me...
Hope your hols were good. -
Hello everyone.
Firstly, hello and thank you to all the members of The Silent Tempest who were able to join us tonight. Sorry I wasn't able to speak to you all but I hope I'll get the chance to greet you all in person soon. I'm hoping that the Coalition between the two teams is fruitful.
Secondly hello to all of our new members! Again, apologies for not being able to say hello to everyone, there's been an influx of people recently so hopefully I'll get to say hello to all of you at some point too.
In case anyone didn't notice for themselves, Amber is a pretty nervous individual so would have either been hiding herself away or being overly talkative to mask both fear and shyness. That's just her way. And she's had a lifetime of being called names so being called not human was bound to push her buttons. I'm sure things will be easier next time.
I'm curious to know exactly what Nightsparrow did earlier on in the evening. Methinks I'm going to have to check the updates on our forum...
For anyone who is interested, I have the whole weekend to indulge so if anyone wants to team up either IC or OOC, I'll probably be around with any number of my numerous alts.

Saffron sat at the bar, nursing her orange juice. It had been another long night. Two acts had cancelled, leaving her and the other band to fill in the gaps. Still, it was nice to be performing again, even if it was only in the University bar. Shed tried out a few new numbers tonight, songs that she hadnt been ready to play for an audience but tried anyway. They seemed to have gone down well.
Saffron? came a voice. She turned on her stool to see a young man next to her. He looked like one of her fellow students.
Hi, she said, giving a weak smile.
Im David, he said, extending his hand. You were awesome tonight.
Saffron shook his hand and smiled. She was getting used to having regulars in the crowd.
Thank you. I felt pretty nervous.
You didnt look it, he said. Do you mind if I ask a personal question?
Saffron nodded. She was so tired she didnt notice that hed taken a step closer towards her.
That last song, All You Wanted? You said it was about someone you were missing?
Yeah, she said, staring into her drink. My best friend hasnt been in touch for ages. Im wondering whats happened to her.
Oh, said David, smiling. It sounded like it was about someone close to you.
Saffron nodded. Oh, she is. I just hope shes ok.
You want to talk about it?
No, thats ok thanks, smiled Saffron. I better be getting to bed to be honest. Ive got a 9 oclock lecture tomorrow.
Saffron picked up her guitar bag and slung it over her shoulder. She grabbed the small amp with her free hand.
Shame, said David, I was hoping you could stay for a drink.
Saffron looked up. She was momentarily taken aback.
Oh, she exclaimed. Thats kind. Perhaps some other time.
David gave her a warm smile. No problem. Sleep well.
Saffron left the bar and started the short walk across the campus to her dorm. She was dog tired but she had a creeping suspicion that shed just been chatted up . -
If you need a hand, I will be around early on tomorrow evening till about 8 o'clock. You can either meet up with one of the Militia and sidekick or I have a couple of other low end RP characters that I use occassionally. My global is @Dante.

Hi there.
I can't see that it would be a problem. Given our diverse range we're quite used to Sidekicking and Exemplaring to get a solid team together. It's nice when we're all in the same range but these days it's becoming less and less likely. We are glad to welcome members of all levels so please feel free to come along.
The only possible problem would come if we were to go into a zone where lower levels are restricted but we're able to get around that normally. -
'Folk' can mean a number of things but I think the reference here is to heroes from myth, legend and folklore. An example of Britain's most famous would be King Arthur or Robin Hood. At least I think that's what you mean anyway.
I've rolled toons before based on figures from British myth, my better one being a Trick Arrow Defender called Gwydion. But they live with my other alts in slots I rarely play these days. -
Hi there, and welcome.
I won't be able to commit to this as my time is limited these days but I would mention that this is how the RP SG I belong to started (The Militia). It's really nice to start right from the beginning at level 1 and work your way up. We're mainly around lvl22 these days but some nice relationships have been built up. We still meet regular as a Clockwork at 19:30 on Thursday nights for two to three hours at a time. I think there was an equivalent Villains group but I don't know what happened to that.
If you want any advice, help etc, don't be afraid to look us up or give me a bell on @Dante.
Good luck! -
I'll throw my two pennysworth in here. About two thirds of my characters are female. I don't know why, I just seem to enjoy roleplaying with them more (plus I'll go with the 'what kind of butt do you want to stare at more argument
). I've had a fair few attempts to chat me up, including someone who thought that the bio on my toon was actually about me rather than the character. (Although I certainly don't recall being chopped up by Dr Vahz...!
)
I honestly don't think it matters in the slightest. If you can play a female toon then that's how I'll treat you when in RP. If someone really desperately wants to know if I'm female in real life, I would be questioning why I'm even playing with them, this is a game not a dating agency. Sometimes I tell them the truth, sometimes I lie, it depends on how much I feel like winding them up. I really don't think it's a big issue although I'd be curious to know if any of our female players have ever had the same situation the other way round.
In all, I think it's how you play that matters rather than who's behind the image. -
I find that it's about striking a balance between what feels right for your character and what you can play well. (Note: I say what you can play well, not what others expect you to play well.) There was a debate recently regarding 'pure' builds and I hadn't realised I'd made one simply because I was thinking in character when I picked the powers.
Despite RP picks though, I am always conscious that if I want to play a character and there are no other roleplayers around, I will need to contribute to any team I end up with. Non-RPers are often not tolerant of RP concessions as already stated. -
I'll be the first to fly the flag for Dark/anything. Dark has a nice collection of heals, debuffs, slows, rezes and holds although some of the powers are situational. Dark/Dark does work well as the attacks debuff enemy accuracy as well. However, all you need to do is meet and enemy with Negative energy resistance and you're in trouble. I went for Dark/Elec as some robots are resistant to fear which is a big part of Dark/ but are weak to Electric.

Standing Ovation

Two standing ovations and a form inviting Dead Calm to stand for President. -
Coming at it as someone who is both a writer and a roleplayer, I would say that they can go hand in hand but one does not necessarily preclude the other. I would hate to think that someone decided not to give roleplaying a go because they did not think that they can write. A good bio is one thing, but far more important are the things that make that character tick, their motivations, their interests, their history. All of these things inform their decisions in game. I know some roleplayers whos bio is blank but have always been great in their role.
I would say that if anything, roleplaying resembles improvised acting. You need to know how the character would respond to situations but you also need to be aware of the environment and the possibilities that are opened up to you by other players. You should be willing to share the spotlight with others and not succumb to god-modding which is always a big no no in most peoples books. I always try to approach it with open honesty and plenty of out of character (OOC) tells to other people so they know if Im about to do something potentially contentious. But above all, it should be fun. The banter that can come about during a good bit of roleplay can often rival the thrill of any improv Ive had to do.
You've got a good start there and the RP crowd in CoX is a good environment to develop in. I encourage you to keep going and wish you the best of luck. -
I have a Fire/Fire blaster over on Defiant and he rocks. Fireball and Rain of Fire are the two attacks that most often annoy team-mates so I'd agree that teaming with someone with a nice AoE hold or slow is a must. If you get to team with a Trick Arrow Defender who slaps down Oil Slick, you can hold them and make your own little barbecue.
Two things to watch for is that Fire has little control and due to its AoE nature, you can end up aggroing more than you can handle. Also, it has a thirst for endurance like no other blasts do (except perhaps Ice). Get Aim and Build Up fast as you want those opening attacks to take out as many as possible in one go.
Also, as you're picking up Hover, I'd slot it for flight speed (3 max) and use it on mission maps to stay out of melee range until most of the mobs are down, then close in to use Combustion and Fire Sword.
Good to see Derek in the Milita uniform, sorry I wasn't able to hang around longer.
