Thing is:
Flying Enemies = Fun
Snipers = Irritating
I long for epic battles racing between towers, blasting each other or occasionally closing to melee for a quick scrap, almost like jousting. Snipers just sit there and fire at you from miles away, often outside of your targeting range so you can’t tell where you’re being killed from.
Also, flying villains are ten a penny in comic books. How many times have we seen Superman duking it out with a foe above the skyline of Metropolis? Or seen Spiderman swinging his way through the city pursued by the Green Goblin on his glider? Whereas snipers are rare to say the least.
Fly is safe, hence its slowness. But as it has been buffed significantly since the game started, perhaps there should be some risk to using it as a travel power. Maybe the way to satisfy both parties is to put an invisible cap on how high foes will fly to try and fight you. So if you want to be completely safe, fly above that height. Whereas if you don’t mind the occasional scrap with a flying patrol, keep below it. Also, I think this should limited to only a few zones so only those where it’s appropriate, perhaps only hazard zones. -
Quote:Finally saw an announcement about it through Facebook this evening. A new record I reckon, only about 24 hours.Let's take bets on how long it takes for there to be an official press release/Announcements post about this, if any.
Bought, downloaded and listened to on the way to work this morning. It's pretty epic stuff, full length pieces of orchestral music that are really evocative. If this is the standard of music we're going to hear in Praetoria, it's going to really put the rest of our background tunes to shame. I can only hope that they get to work on updating them soon.
Agreed, it does get a little samey after a while and the middle of the album is a bit flabby but it's a good score. I've listened to scores for multi-million dollar hollywood movies that weren't up to this kind of standard. -
Hmmm, just downloaded and listened to the album and yes, it is rather lovely. Makes some of our current music sound rather dated in comparison.
Can't wait to hear these pieces within the context of the game. -

Quote:Fair question although I'm trying not to compare them if I can help it. I want to play my Stalker as a Stalker, not as a Scrapper with a few neat tricks up his sleeve. My question to the OP: Can tanker control like controllers/dominators? Can scrappers debuff mobs like corruptors, defenders, and controllers?
I've got plenty of Scrappers but Stalkers remain a playstyle that has eluded me even after four and a half years of playing.
To put things in perspective, the last time I tried to play a Stalker, it was before they received their recent buffing and I found that sticking around after my Assassin's Strike was a recipe for eating floor on a regular basis. So I found that after I'd taken out a few targets, I had to run away and get back into Hide again. (This was low level admittedly, I never got any of them much further than their 20s) Evidently, this has changed and I'm curious to know how much. Having been playing stealthy assassin with my Bane Spider recently, I can see the appeal of sneaking into a mob and taking out the problem targets. I just want to be able to contribute to the damage afterwards. As I will be playing this Stalker mostly on teams, I like to know that I'm not just there for vicious amounts of burst damage.
As for the epic moments, that's an indulgence really. But simply put, I have seen Scrappers wipe a room when the entire team has faceplanted but I don't think I've ever seen a Stalker do it. So I'm just curious whether that kind of thing can happen or whether it's purely the domain of Scrappers to do that kind of thing. From the responses in this thread, it would appear that they can. -
Again, thanks for all the advice. My MA/Nin is primed for August 17th.

While flashbacking to a lowbie mission with my Fire Blaster, I triggered a zone ambush by a bunch of Clockwork and with my normal settings of +3, I had a huge swarm of them come after me. It turned into an epic battle through the towers of Steel Canyon, trying to avoid them and at the same time blasting as many of them out of the sky as I could. Fast paced as it was, I was muching through inspirations and having to use the architecture to avoid all the electrical blasts that were sapping me dry too. It was a truly memorable experience so I say 'YES' to more flying patrols and more flying foes in general.

Sure, stick your head in the forums and say hello and give me a shout next time you see me online. Best way to get to know us (and for us to know you) is to come along with us on a Wednesday night and meet the team. Most of us have done RP from PnP to table top to MMOs so there's a fair spread of experience there.

There are certainly a few around still although how active they are I can't say outside of my own.
The Militia has been running for over four years now and is a successful group of downbeat heroes who operate out of Kings Row. There's a number of mutants in there but we cover all bases. Feel free to come and have a look around our forums: www.themilitia.org.uk Our wiki entry is here for background info: http://union.virtueverse.com/index.php/Militia
We meet on Wednesday nights for teams, rp and TFs and on Thursdays for our sister villain group, The Cadre. There's general chatter on our channel and forum RP in between.
As for other hero groups, I think the Unity Vigil is still running and Nighthunters seems to be active. I'm not sure about anyone else. Have a look on the Union RP wiki (http://union.virtueverse.com/index.php/Main_Page) for a comprehensive list of all the groups but again, not sure how active they are. And you could also pop your head into the Union Roleplayers channel and see what the folks there can tell you.
Hope that helps but feel free to poke me in game on @Dante if you need any help. -
I rolled my Superstrength/Fire before I was told it's a popular farming combination. However, I find it a solid performer and a heck of a lot of fun too. The knockdown provides a lot of soft damage mitigation and gives you windows of opportunity to fire off Healing Flames or Consume in the middle of battle. Unlike Shield or Willpower, FA doesn't need foes around it to be buffed so I even found a use for Hand Clap in giving me a breather if I get mobbed. Plus, Boxing and Jab are virtually identical so even the Tough and Weave prerequisite goes in my attack chain with no trouble.
Rage on top of Fire Aura's offense is just gravy.
If you're sold on Stone or Dark though, I'd go Stone if you can stomach the Endurance cost. When the brown stuff hits the swirly thing, no amount of single target ToHit Debuff will save you whereas putting them all on their bottoms in one go may well do.
P.S. Hitting Burn and watching the mobs begin to run away only to send them falling into the flames with Footstomp makes me giggle like a girl every time. -
I have a level 43, non-IOed, non-perma Dom and I still find him a fun toon to play.
Lots of tricks up your sleeve, a mezz for just about every opportunity and stacked -recharge from both powersets is very nice. As others have said, not the 'uber-control' you might want from a Dom but a very solid combo nonetheless. -
Credit where it's due, the idea was originally from Romanov. It was me that tried to make it into an event. A surge in popularity, some bad timing and sucky events in real life meant I never got a chance to finish it.
But if it serves as an idea to do a heroic themed event, please feel free to run with it. I'd be more than happy to help where I can. -

I have not been able to attend an RP social event for a while now, so I was nervous about attending. However the atmosphere was great, the chat welcoming and the characters fun to interact with. I had a good time on both Master Fox and Third Degree Byrne so thank you to everyone that came, to The Corporation for their backing and Bunny for putting together such a fun event.
I look forward to more. -
The bar seemed to be about to erupt into a full scale brawl as the Atavist failed to stop the masked man from leaving. He uttered a colourful curse then randomly backfisted a growling creature that was creeping up behind him. He ducked behind an aggressive looking monster and positioned himself at the bar, a hand on a chair, ready to use it as a weapon if anyone approached.

Quote:Asked the creepy clergyman that now stood in his way. Big Game paused a moment before giving a reply through his voice changer...
"Take a look around you. There's a whole lot of ugly. If I take my mask off it's gonna get a whole lot uglier. Keeping my mug under wraps is an act of public kindness."
"How very thoughtful of you," replied the Atavist. "But you know, this bar is full of people who could sink a ship just by looking at it. I saw one fella over there drinking with a tentacle. I'm sure they wouldn't look twice if you took your mask off. C'mon, take it off, you can't be that bad lookin underneath." -
As the bandaged man headed for the door, the Atavist sighed, disappointed that all he had managed was an aborted attempt at chatting up a girl he had no doubt could look after herself. And that was not really entertaining. So he chose instead to cross the floor and position himself by the exit. Staring at the man as he attempted to leave, he spoke up in his broad cockney accent.
"I've got a question for you. Why is it that a man who can talk perfectly well chooses to drink whiskey through a straw?" -
The blonde man in the cassock stood with a bourbon in one hand and a half smoked cigarette in the other. He was busy reading the notes on the wall, smiling to himself whenever he came across one that he thought looked interesting. He wanted to consult his book, to see if it would tell him anything interesting about the patrons of the bar. But the place was so crowded he feared drawing undue attention to himself. His god's latest demands would have to wait.
It was then he noticed the creature drinking from a straw.
Realising that he may have found the entertainment for the evening, The Atavist watched to see if anything kicked off. -

I think I'm going to stop reading this thread. Every time someone wants to interfere with the glorious knockback of Crane Kick, I get sad. It's a bit like changing Knockout Blow so it doesn't do knockup.
In the end, I think MA only needs tweaking around Eagle's Claw's animation time and maybe an increased radius to Dragon's Tail. I like the fact that Thunder Kick and Crippling Axe Kick are of questionable value (to me at least) as it means I don't feel compelled to pick every power in the set. -

Quote:I would love to see more knockdown in MA as well but I fear that the dawn of Kinetic Melee will overshadow it even more in this department. But a big 'yes' to knocking my foes to the floor and a second shaved off of Eagle's Claw. What if "Knockdown" was Martial Arts' special effect. Code in a chance to knockdown on every attack. It doesnt solve the problem you are illustrating above, but would make up for the lack of a "consistent" effect.
Oh I also LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the idea that Umbral brings up about taking a half second out of the "floating in air" animation of EC. I want my MA to be smooth and deadly, a veritable dancing death machine. The "hold" at the top of the EC animation is a little too much "crouching tiger" and not enough "bruce lee" for my tastes. -
I think a lot of what you're going for is going to depend on your playstyle. I play most of my Blasters at range and there are plenty of sets that offer bonuses to that such as 6-slotted Thunderstrike, Eradication or Mako's Bite for your melee attacks. On my ranged Blasters, I'm normally just above 30% ranged defence most of the time. It's not great, but it does help.
However, as you stated in your initial post, you're in and out of melee so you're better off going for Smash/Lethal defence. I'm afraid that the best option for that is Ice Armour but I can't stand the look of it so I've never used it. Probably your best return will be to get some Kinetic Combats in your melee attacks but on their own, they won't do a lot of good. Sticking Manoeuvres, the Steadfast +3% IO and Combat Jumping in the build will help a bit but I'd be surprised if you could get it higher than 20%.
Building high defence on an AT that doesn't normally have any is a tough job and you'll find your choices of powers limited. And even if you did get topside of 30%, you'll still be squishy as hell and have no Defence Debuff Resistance. I'm not saying it can't be done, but it's tricky. Good luck to you. -
Quote:I like it too. I would be curious to see what lies beyond Praetoria's walls as well. In our world the Hamidon's vision is a nightmare, perhaps in Praetoria, it's a perfect, natural world but because man cannot conquer it, it is deemed a threat. Boy that appeals to the tree-hugger in me.2) OUR Hamidon is "stage one" of the Hami's mutation, but thanks to the concentration of heroes in Paragon he's never been able to get to cell division and develop into the godzilla style devowered because we keep beating him down and he has to regenerate into the first cell again. Pretoria didn't have the concentration of heroes constantly hammering on him, so the first cell replicated and developed into the creature Pretorian Cole beat up.
I like the second one, personally.
I guess my point is, who knows what side the Praetorian Devoured Earth are really on?
EDIT: I think I might have spotted an error in the article as well. Surely it should read 'Doctor Pasalima' rather than 'Doctor Hamidon'?
