Quote:Did Issue 20.5 go live without my noticing? No? Then the feature isn't in yet. Leagues are all open right now, not closed.*You won't notice any difference - Leagues are all run as "closed" Leagues right now
*That's why you can sometimes get kicked from a League because you're a scary stranger/proletarian/unwashed. -
Just to clarify my position on teaming and features as they now stand in the game:
Soloing is fine.
Teaming is fine.
Preventing the progress of others is not fine.
I'm opposed to Closed Leagues. I'm in favor of Open Leagues. I'm in favor of a viable solo option, and until we have one, I am dependent on iTrials for my progress, and Closed Leagues retard or even stop that progress. -
Quote:You burned that strawman very nicely. How dare anyone solo in this game! Being an Massive, Multi-Person Online game measn you HAVE to team! And you have to like it! Why are you not loving this teaming, citizen?! You want the shinies, WHY ARE YOU NOT TEAMING LIKE WE ORDERED YOU TOO?!
*eyeroll*
Apparently wanting alternate options is now a crime. Whodda thought it?
This thread is about a solo-friendly feature requiring teaming. Care to comment on that? -
Illusion for Doms, Ice Armor/Melee for Brutes/Scrappers/Stalkers and Super Reflexes for Tankers!

Yeah, it's a boon to those who like to play alone. By playing with others. What?

You guys aren't making me feel better.
So the solo path is teaming? Really? No. I refuse to accept this. This cannot be correct. That's Kirk-killing-computer levels of circular logic. -
Quote:Chiklis was so good in the role, I still have trouble remembering that it was indeed him in the role. Damn good movie. There was an excellent (albeit too short) biopic that Mel Gibson produced a few years ago. Michael Chiklis portrayed Curly.
P.S. Three Stooges Biopic @ Hulu -
Am I reading this wrong (and I hope I am) or is the solo friendly path to Incarnate progress dependent on completing iTrials? Someone please tell me I'm wrong, 'cause I want to be. Team-dependent solo-progress is just too...something...to even bear thinking about.

Just to throw a little curve ball in there, today a certain F2P company announced 15% increase in revenue in the same quarter CoH saw a decline to its lowest income ever. Food for thought.

Quote:Been playing this game for something like 5ish years, never heard of this CoH sub-community. Consider my mind blown.Haha "someone"...
The CoH LJ community has almost 1000 people watching it, so I'd wager it's one of the largest unofficial CoH communities out there. We span all English language servers, and it's rare for an evening to pass without some LJ-spawned group having an official play session.
How are you enjoying your new Russian overlords? -

Incarnate Vouchers. A solo feature that you have to team to get. I see what you did there devs. Boo.
Closed Leagues. Bad news for those who depend on the Team Up Teleporter. Making it easier to exclude people is the wrong direction for any MMO. Oh well, there's always Vouchers. Which require an iTrial. D'oh!
Rainbow Trail Aura. Carebears unite!
AOE bubbles/buffs. Mixed feelings about this. The bubbling mini-game is gone, but more time for blasting isn't a bad thing.
Incarnate Armor. Incarnate powers made your build just like everyone else, now the armor makes you look like everyone else, too. All for the low-low price of "OVER 9000!!!" Empyrean Merits. But good news! It's account-wide at least. -
I wonder if gold farmers craft? Nah, probably too slow.

High End Widow Guide is what you're looking for.
My only issue with that guide is it isn't really a Night Widow. More of a Blood Widow on steroids. But it'll take out AVs no problem, I think.
Personally, I'm much more into the "true" Night Widow builds that still have really good performance (from an overall game play standpoint) and bring the actual flavor of the Night Widow as well. That means taking the Psi attacks and Smoke Grenade.
My favorite characters always bring some min-max, but always also mitigate that with flavor that brings versatility and overall fun to the build and to the game. Being a complete slave to math, for me, isn't fun. Though I do find value in paying some attention to it.
To answer your question: What are Night Widows for? Kicking ***. -

Quote:Exactly so. Game supports X number of players on Z amount of hardware, the question becomes can you reliably support X number of players on Z-A hardware just as well, given that Z-A has the advantage of lower cost.Though i see where Daemodand is coming from. They're making it more efficient for "old-fashioned business reasons" as Second Measure said. My first thought after seeing that was a way to cut cost and it would be completely understandable to me in light of the numbers.
Quote:Isn't Guild Wars a no-subscription game? There's a box cost, but isn't it essentially a free to play game?
F2P as a model is not new at all, and has been shown to work by various companies and game titles which I cannot name due to the forum rules. NCSoft has shown a distaste for it, I believe there was an article recently on Massively with an NCSoft exec talking about that. -

So 67,000 accounts? Of course, you'd have to adjust for pay services and boosters, but that sounds about right. Apparently we see servers in the yellow and red due to the downscaling of hardware (with another round of downscaling having just been tested).
It's sad to see such a solid game find an all-new low in earnings with every quarter. But the answer is before us as had been mentioned: F2P. Problem is, NCSoft simply does not understand or like F2P.
Going Rogue and the end game have both failed to prop the game up. GR's problem was obvious: 20 levels wasn't enough content. People did the 20 levels and left. It didn't help that those are some of the most annoying 20 levels to get through (both mechanically and thematically) in the game. The end game is one of the most-cited reasons on various MMO fora for people leaving the game. Those people feel the Incarnate system has turned the game into one they no longer recognize. I can see their point, even if I don't necessarily agree.
AE was another misstep for the game as well. Mass interest turned into mass exodus. I don't see future MMOs including player-content features as the concept has been pretty well shown to not work.
PvP 2.0 certainly didn't help, either.
But as I said, the answer is before us: F2P. But will NCSoft's corporate culture allow it? -
Quote:We know how to pick 'em!This season has been rough. I lost 5 shows off of my season passes.
Good point. There was very little discussion of the show after the first couple of episodes around here though, and that was surely a bad sign. -
I didn't see an official thread on it, but as an epilogue to this thread the show officially go the axe on May 13. The show had it's problems, but it was an improvement over Heroes. That a superhero show was cancelled with no notice on a forum such as this shows what little interest the target audience actually had in the show in the end. Oh, well!
In my imagination, the Powell's will always be out there secretly working for the government to stop the bad guys.
