They Kill Comics, Don't They?

While I'm not too entirely thrilled with the concept, what comics that were going to be used, according to the vid, were not in the best overall condition to begin with. If that qualifier was going to be used, then fine. At least some of the art is being preserved and the better condition copies of those issues might be worth more to a collector. Who knows...

At this moment and time, I would say your OP is a little over reactive.

Would I actually purchase any of these cards? I highly doubt it. It is a novel concept, though.

Thank you for the time...

I see no problem with this, in fact I think it's a great idea. IMO most collectors wouldn't even purchase those old tattered comics cause there would be little to no value in them. I wonder if you can sell some of your old beat up comics to Upper Decks directly.

just my two cents....

So... they're taking comics in terrible condition (yellowing paper, brittle and even missing pages) and recycling them into a comics related trading card. I'm not sure I see the problem. Especially when the alternative, as demonstrated by the closest local comics shop, is to either put them in "5 comics for 50 cents!" (and get this the hell out of my store) grab bags, or to just recycle them outright. As in, send them to the rendering plant to be mulched into pulp and turned into 40% Recycled Content grocery bags.
