I decided to dust off my old ice/rad controller (with decent damage available now through earth mastery, yay for seismic smash!) and I'm planning to IO him out.
Plan is to get as much +rech as cheap as possible and without gimping the build.
The following build is what I've planned so far, only expensive set being positron's blast. I'm not yet 100% sure whether I'm taking acro + flash freeze (cheap 6.25% rech and a panic button) or maneuvers (KB prot mule) + tactics (5% rech).

I cant see any good reason why a brute couldnt do it. With (almost) full fury they can do DPS that matches (or beats?) scrapper DPS. My FM/SR has enough DPS to beat an AV so a brute should be able to do that too.
-
[ QUOTE ]
So let me get this straight....
There is same amount of xp needed to go from 49 - 50 as there is to get from 1 - 37 !!!
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, but at lvls 1-37 you get, from (at lvl 1) 10 to (at lvl 37) to 400 xp per minion defeated versus 900 xp per minion at 50. -
[ QUOTE ]
i also love elude and thats gone in both builds can you soft cap def while keeping elude?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, of course you can but there is no point in having elude with a soft capped build. Soft cap is basically "perma elude".
And as for the build, like someone pointed before you have some funny slotting in there. Vital powers underslotted while less useful powers are heavily slotted. -
Katana/WP or BS/WP is probably your strongest choice if you plan to solo most of the way to 50 and aren't going to get IOs.
Divine Avalanche/Parry just adds to WPs already incredible solo survival and it should be near impossible to bite the dust. I enjoyed my MA/WP scrapper, it was a very smooth ride all the way to 50.
MA/WP has is a strong solo choice, because with small number of opponents you can keep most of the enemies either KB'd/KD'd or stunned while fighting.
SR is a great choice if you plan to get IOs at some point, but WP is stronger out of the box. -
Solo yes, but I believe the -res from shout tips the scales in favour of the attack chain with shout. I'm talking about overall DPS from the whole team here, if I do 20 more DPS with electric fences that's nice, but the -res from shout might be close to 100 DPS in the whole team's DPS.
Besides I took psychic mastery to get a cheap purple set (sleep) and I like the look of mind over body -
I'm quite sure it was 5 missions max per arc. Could be I'm wrong, though.
-
Personally:
Length: 5 missions is not too many, but I really dislike all the "prolongued missions", as in, "go there, well you found something but now go into this exactly same looking map with same enemies to find a similar glowie".
Story: In one word, enjoyable. Be it tongue in cheek, really well written roleplay'ish scene, or anything else.
Spelling and grammar: As Phantoms said earlier, no one will play through an arc all in l33t. At least I wont. Small spelling/grammar mistakes wont annoy me (even though I've developed an eye to spot them out. Unintentionally!) because I do that sort of mistakes myself, too.
Difficulty: I like challenging arcs. Praetorian AV arc solo against proper AVs was nice, but it was more like a test of endurance instead of a test of skill. I'm looking forward to rooms filled with high resistance/defense turrets or such with limited range attacks to make good use of positioning yourself. -
Mmm. Think I'm getting shout then. Now to get my hands on a set of decimation...
-
Here's the build I'd use with claws/SR if I had a lot of inf spare.

Only got space for one of those two. I have the nuke currently and I find I barely ever use it. By the time I've dropped sleet and heat loss most mobs are usually at a point it would be a waste to use the nuke.
Shout on the other hand would be nice for AV fights.
Cant really decide -
As a cold/sonic defender, should I take shout or the nuke? Currently I find shriek + scream doesnt quite do the sort of damage I like. The nuke, while it is nice, is quite situational and I'm thinking shout would also be of more consistent use.
Opinions? -
Let's see. Currently you're wasting:
1.12% +HP bonus, * 5
10% regen bonus, * 5
9% acc bonus, * 7
That's 17 wasted bonuses so you might just as well use generic / cheaper IOs in the place of those sets... -
[ QUOTE ]
I would read "Not LFT" as not looking to begin, or looking to be part of one, and "solo" also as a desription of your intentions and wouldn't even send a tell
[/ QUOTE ]
I get what you mean. If it says "not LFT" in the search comment I interpret it just like you do. But the search status, not looking for team, the grey one, is the basic one which no one ever changes unless they really dont want to team. -
Soloing does mean soloing, I do understand that. But what some people seem not to understand is that people often forget to change these "LFT status messages".
I forget to change them so I assume there are other people who do that as well. Also I dont think it ruins your day if you actually are asked to join a team once or twice a day. Besides it is your fault if you get the same person asking you twice because you didnt give him a reply. The person might think you're AFK, didnt see the message, saw it but forgot to answer it, etc. and will give it a new try in a couple of minutes. -
Shazan, after reading all your posts on this matter I'd like you to answer a simple question.
There are two options in the search, not looking for a team and not accepting invites (= not wanting a team). If these two mean the exactly same thing why would both of them be there? This game is designed by people speaking English as their first language so they should (by your words) be able to tell they meant the exactly same thing.
Sometimes the subtle (well not too subtle in this case) differences in phrases can be important. Even I can interpret this small difference (as a person not speaking english as his first language) in these two sentences.
I'll give you an example because Maelwys' example didnt seem to be enough.
Scenario 1 (not looking for a team): I'm not looking for a party. This means that currently I'm not actively trying to find a group of people to party with, but it does not mean that I would not go to one if someone told me one was going to take place somewhere.
Scenario 2 (not accepting invites): I dont want to go to a party. This means I'm not either looking for a party or going to one even though I was offered an invite.
This is the difference between the two sentences. By no means they mean the same as has been explained to you quite a few times in previous posts. I hope you could brush off your arrogance and admit you're wrong. Please. -
I believe TRT means he did it in, say, 4 parts of which each took 1h30min (assuming it took 6h total).
-
I'm experiencing the same. Most of the time it only happens when I'm playing a villain character.
-
[ QUOTE ]
To be fair, often when people are in teams their names don't grey out. That's a bug, not the fault of the messenger. It's happened to me more than once.
[/ QUOTE ]
True. The search window doesnt refresh. If you open it and look for a team for 10 minutes the people you are sending tells to might have joined a team while you were looking for one. They would still show blue in the window because it is static. -
I would probably give this a try if I actually had the 6 hours (or more, cant remember how long it took for Nihilii) to do this.
Anyways, a very nice achievement! -
[ QUOTE ]
Just a quick question - how do you phrase your /tells?
I tend to give a lot of info rather than a simple "lft" or similar 'text speak' request, and that usually gets a good response.
[/ QUOTE ]
I have a bind which does that for me. It states my level, archetype and the set info in case I think it's useful (i.e for support classes, just to let them know I'm not h34l0r).
Using a bind also saves me the effort of typing the same message multiple times in succession without getting a reply. Much easier to just click one button!
And about the blunt replies:
It's better to reply with a blunt/"rude" message than not reply at all. How the hell is the player sending the messages supposed to know if you even saw the message if you dont reply? If you dont reply to tells at least do not cry about players sending you multiple tells about the same thing in a short period of time... -
[ QUOTE ]
1. You're actually busy playing the game. Answering a complete stranger the bugs the whole team is definitely ignored (more reasons for this is coming)
He might bug the whole team because no one is giving him a reply which causes him to move up on the list of people. The source of the problem might actually be people not replying in the first place
2. Team might be full, no response = no. Learn to accept that.
Replying a simple "no", while it might be blunt, is better than nothing. I might actually send another tell in a few minutes because how am I supposed to know if you received it (broken tells) or saw it at all?
3. If you do send a no, it's my experience that the completely stupid follow-up is imminent: "Why?". This may be followed by a 30 minute long debate on why you don't want to invite a complete stranger that's 30 levels below you. Best case, a hero sent me a tell asking for invite as I was exiting Pocket D.
You could just ignore the person here. If they wont take no it's just as bad as people not replying.
4. If you're editing base, respeccing, making a new cossie etc there's no possible way to answer that tell of yours, or even read it.
Using the feature /hide the devs have kindly bestowed us with would clear this problem.
5. You logged on for some quality solo time, maybe even closed the chat window beacuse you want the meditative experience of the solo play.
As above, use /hide. I use it whenever I'm doing something I know will prevent me from teaming for a while, such as costume editing, base editing or a TF.

Speaking of which, will this make Hover worthwhile* for melee ATs?
[/ QUOTE ]
It actually could. I could see it very useful for a spines scrapper for positioning easily.
Hmmm... Might actually get hover on my spines/SR. Swift + quickness + hover buff sounds great.
