Yanno, this argument feels so much like it has been done before that I'm almost convinced that the forum software is glitching and bringing up old topics as new.
I'm not being flippant; it really feels like deja vu. Down to Castle's mention of The Realm (which was what brought this thread to my attention when it popped up in the Dev Digest RSS ticker).
It's a bit creepy. -
Can never please everyone, I suppose.
-
Yeah, mostly it's that with such a limited pool of prestige, I kind of feel obligated to get something actually useful, rather than something that merely looks nice for us to hang out in.

is it timeplayed or timed logged?
there is a differnce
[/ QUOTE ]
It's neither. It's the time your subscription has been active.
Not how many hours you have logged in.
Not how many hours you played on a character.

I think forum regulars might have to start copy-pasting the answer for the inevitable flood of questions when I8 nears and more people start worrying about the veteran rewards. -

"Statesman: I wouldve thought that bases would have gotten more attention, to be honest."
Even if bases where free and everything thing in it , they would still be boring. Running from one side of the base to the other isn't going to make people stop playing WOW and other MMo's.
Combo's
Loot
Skills
Crafting
This would make COH/COV fun for me and would get players attention IMO.
[/ QUOTE ]
Combos, cool.
Loot, is kinda like salvage.
Skills, depends on how they put them in.
Crafting, is lame.
And seeing as how this would make this a hero version of WoW, I'm not seeing how it would grab peoples attention.
"Oh look! It's like EQ2! Only with spandex!"
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not really sure why the whole "EQ2 with spandex" and "WoW" thing keeps coming up. If one goes vague enough, CoH/V can be compared to EQ2 or WoW or EQ or Ultima Online or Ragnarok Online. After all, they're all MMOGs, they all have levelling systems, they all have classes with different abilities, they all require a monthly fee or time card to play... I just don't get the argument.
But anyway. I'd like combos to be in the game as well (it's even very superheroic), but seeing as how Oil Slick Arrow has caused Castle no end of grief, I think the tech for this is some time away.
Skills, we've all heard about the Skills System and whatnot. Shelved. Reborn. Shelved again. Whatever. It's a pity that it's not likely to see full light of day, but no worries, it's just an extra, really.
Loot and Crafting, well, I think that these can also be superheroic with tweaks and name changes. Isn't there the Invention system coming up? And then there's Salvage and the temp power stations in bases.
I think CoH/V already has several things unique enough (like being in a superhero universe, having the SK/Exemp system, costume creator) that it's more or less safe from being "just like WoW" or "EQ2 with spandex". -

Have the devs posted what rewards are or the criteria for getting them?
[/ QUOTE ]
Just the first reward, which is trenchcoats at three months.
There's reference to various stuff to "encourage alts" like a perma-Nemesis Staff, but nothing concrete. -
I may possibly be the only person who's not exactly looking forward to Safeguard Missions, especially after reading the description of it here.
If I read it right, it's basically War Wall Defender. Except more so. -
Rikti Drones and 5th Column (later Council) hoverbots did not use to explode when defeated. Instead, they simply dropped to the ground.
This was changed in I think I6. -
[ QUOTE ]
I can't remember in which issue exactly it was changed (Issue 3? Issue 4?), but for a week or two after that issue was released, the glowies made no noise! You had to just roam around looking behind every desk, crate, or other object to find them! The outrage reached a furor for a while until they added the low-pitched noise in.
I actually thought it was pretty cool, like a glowie scavenger hunt.
[/ QUOTE ]
Issue 3, I believe. It was quite explicitly stated to be a bug, especially after a forumite posted a ranty thread about it and called the devs some unflattering names. I think "baby-eaters" was actually one of them. CuppaJo posted at the end clarifying that it was a bug, and locked the thread.
The only other "historical" thread I can think of right now which had me scratching my head in bewilderment was one stating that the anime-inspired costumes in I4 would be the death of the game's superhero comic book origins. I found it notable in that the OP instantly dismissed anyone with an anime avatar as not having anything worth saying on the issue. -

I didn't receive the email announcement either. Did it go out yet?
[/ QUOTE ]
That's what I would like to know.
Have they sent any messages out yet? I haven't received anything yet.
[/ QUOTE ]
Just received mine (5 minutes ago according to GMail). Maybe it's lagging slightly or something. -

When is it not? When somebody asks for a link to information about I8 or next year's box expansion, do you (the metaphorical "you") shoot a link for anywhere here or on the main game page? NO. You shoot em a link to to a third party site.
If this game had an ad budget, this site would be the only stop for CoX info we'd need. However, they don't, so they make almost everything a 'scoop' on a third-party site. It's a bit savvy, but a bit cheap too. Ya do what ya gotta do, though.
[/ QUOTE ]
What I find mildly amusing is that the third-party site (the MMORPG.com one, at least) refers the reader back to CoH/V.com "for more information", which has, as far as I can tell, absolutely nothing on the main site about it. (So far.) -

Here's an easy way to tell if he's held or not:
Have the controllers look at their combat logs. If they're doing containment damage, he's held.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hamidon is perma-Immobilized.
We do Containment damage to him all the time. -
Pick up a copy of The Silmarillion.
Read it.
Throw the book across the room in frustration.
Pout.
Pick up the book.
Read it.

Now if you could just explain the side missions. I did a mayhem today, killed a boss, got a key, went inside the waypoint, captured the civie, and walked out. Now wet? The civie followed me all over, but I had no idea what to do to finish the side mission, and nothing in the briefing said what to do.
Anybody have a clue about this?
-jeff
[/ QUOTE ]
You're supposed to take the civilian to your own "exit point". As in, the exit of the Mayhem Mission, not just the exit of the building.
There should be a waypoint marker on the map and nav bar, but it wouldn't surprise me if this was also bugged for some.
Also, I noticed that if the hostage manages to lose you, they run back to the building they came from... and refuse to follow you anywhere afterwards. -
[ QUOTE ]
If you have more then 3 paid months with CoX then you get the trenchcoat at character creation. This is for time put in game total, not time put in with a character.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ah, thanks. Was wondering if it was like the togas during Valentine's. -
[ QUOTE ]
<ul type="square">[*] Trench Coats will be part of the Veteran Rewards System. You will earn this Prestige item after ~3 months of having an active account.[/list]
[/ QUOTE ]
Will we be awarded Trenchcoats at character creation? Or would we have to have a "placeholder" costume first, before we get the Trenchcoat awarded when we actually log on with that character? -
I don't care if it can't actually grow in size, I'm going to be rolling that Big Red Ball around the city while giggling hysterically and humming the Katamari Damacy theme tune.

Same reason why so many of them love to leave cryptic one-sentence comments and spontaneously vanish in a puff of smoke.

Yes, but do they turn into a pumpkin afterwards?
Safeguard missions sound great, even if we have absolutely no idea what they entail... -

Apparently, this is the maintenance that doesn't end.

I'm pretty sure I saw Terra Volta's name stenciled in over the giant door, yesterday
[/ QUOTE ]
That is its real name.
[/ QUOTE ]
That reminds me, what's with "Terror Volta" showing up on the loading screen for the reactor?
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm assuming that it's some sort of pun.
... I don't know, really. Curious as well. -
The guide seems to be more focused on the Mito Assault team(s). Is this intended?

[ QUOTE ]
There was a time when the glowie objects didn't make any kind of noise. You had to physically see the objects. There was alos a time when there were problems with the glowies being invisable. You could hear them but not see them. You would have to "feel" around with your cursor to see when it changed into a hand to click them.
[/ QUOTE ]
Once, the glowies didn't stop glowing even after you'd interacted with them. Some did, but the majority didn't. After I3, the glowies stopped glowing once you interacted with them, but they had also stopped producing sound. This was a bug, which was fixed in a subsequent patch. -

-that the name Rikti came from a conversation where I said "Rikki Tikki Tavi is a cool name. How can we get that into the game?"

Did not know that, find it exceedingly cool. -

Gives me an even better idea.
Giant... monster.... zone!
Just have the big guys wandering all over the place.

Like the Hive?
I think a Cage Match style (ie confined and relatively controlled Arena-style) would be more interesting, at least to begin with. -

Still tiny.

I clicked on the links, and saw tiny thumbnails. Refreshed, still tiny.
Closed the window, clicked the links again, and they were full-sized.
Weird.
