Quote:Still not secure. MAC addresses are spoofable. Granted, it'd take somewhat heroic effort, but still.
Yeah that's why I said not 100% secure. There really is no way to be 100% secure, but I think its a better option than IP addresses which are easily spoofable. -
Ok, I had the same issue with getting into my account, and I was prepared for all sorts of problems.
then I called the support number, talked to a live person, and 10 minutes after I got off the phone, I was able to get into my account. It really was quick and painless and she asked a few questions to confirm my identity.
Now, for other points that have been stated here:
A) Yes a warning that this was going to be turned on to the e-mail address in your account a day or two before would have been very helpful. A chance to make sure you knew your answers, or change them if need be.
B) If the reason for not sending out an e-mail is because of security, well it is even less secure shooting an e-mail with an ip address off to that address each time you do something with your account (Log in, change billing information, change security questions, etc..). If the e-mail address in the account was changed to a hacker's e-mail, then they now will have a change to get at you, especially if you have a static ip.
C) IP changing: Yes IP's will change, Yes DSL is more prone than Cable, UVerse, FIOS etc, but if you have a router after your modem, the IP address changing is maybe once a month. Is this annoying? yes. Is there a better soultion? Yes and that is...
D) Register machines by their MAC adress. With MAC being Unique to each Network Card, that means that even if your IP address changes, you would be recognized. Mind you this is still not 100% secure, since the MAC is transmited inside of the TCP packet, but it is a much harder thing to snag that way, plus the spoofing of MAC addresses are not real prevalent.
Just my thoughts on the whole matter. -
Seriously, I think that was where NCSoft dropped the ball on it all. Oh well, at least it got fixed fast.

Quote:Contact support. I got the questions removed yesterday(Sunday!) in about an hour or so.
Yeah, I called support. They had everything cleared in under 30 minutes. I've heard of the horror stories so I expected the worst, and got really good service.
No I hadn't seen the post that the changes had gone into effect. If I had known a day or two in advance I would have double checked all my info so I wouldn't have had the problem. -
Stupid new login for the NCSoft site won't accept my security answers, which means that I can't update my billing info. so middle of the month if this is not resolved, well I'm out of luck and will be offline.
Thanks for the stupid change to the login system. -
*Glomps Becky*
BWHAHAHAHAHAHA! I GOTS A BECKY!
Good luck RAD, although I think the A+ is not real difficult of an exam. Sucks that anyoen who certified after Jan 1 of this year has to recertify every few years. -

Oh no you don't Puppeh!
*gives chase*
YOU GIVE ME MY COFFEE NOW!!!! -
while I appreciate NCSoft's attempt at more security, Unfortunately, the who preset question is not secure.
The majority of web sites, beside Real World places with security questions, use the same questions. Mother's Maiden Name and Pet being probably the most common. This actually creates a situation where knowing these answers, which takes a little research but can be figured out, a security risk. With those same answers, a decent cyber-crimnal could use social techniques to get passwords reset for things such as your bank account, credit cards, and plenty more.
Please for people to come up with their own question and answer. Makes it a bit more secure.
Now about those SecureID cards with the numbers that change every x seconds. Its a private encryption algorythm which when typed in within the alloted time frame, allows a computer to prove that the person logging into it has rights to. -

Morning all. Puppeh are you behaving yourself?

What I like about PVP as ti currently is...
Tough question, as I don't do much with PVP, except run a once a month RPVP show that rotates zones. Because of that, and how dead the zones are, it makes for a much more enjoyable experience for the everyday layman like myself. I can go in there, and not worry about being ganked inside of 10 seconds. I still get beaten down, but I expect that, and yeah it is fun. In the same breath, sometimes it is really sucky when you go into most of the zones and 90% of the time they are empty of Players. -
*Bungles into the Jungle*
Morning Fey, Philly, Larker.
*Grabs his coffee*
PUPPEH!!! Whyfor didn't you mow the lawn like you was supposed to??? WHY??? -
So I'm invovled with 2 games per month. It seems that as we get older and other responsibilities abound, it gets tougher and tougher to get a game going, let alone one that happens more frequently than monthly.
Currently Playing: Unholy Preyer. Its based on the fate dice system, and the Dresden Files game stat sheets, but is a universe created by our GM. Playing a hunter that keeps supernatural evil at bay.
Currently Running: Shadowrun 4th Edition. This has been an interesting game mostly cause I'm GMing. I wanted to play but couldn't find any groups in my area, so I started up one. Just getting ready to start into our first long term campaign. -
Quote:and yet, today they're making it Sister Psi instead of the ITF... not waiting for I20 to make it an exempTF. I'm a bit frustrated at this. I like running TFs and working at getting shards and the nice bit of incarnate salvage/notice at the end. Means you can do things a little more casually. But this? Running a sister psi with no shards, RIGHT before I20, it's kind of cruel.
Reminds me of running the Cathedral of Pain, in that nobody's going to drop any rewards 'till the very end.
It bugs me more that there IS another accessable, well known and fun lv 50 TF that they didn't make into the weekly target before I20 drops, in the ITF. They really didn't have to make it a lower level TF before the I20 "Everything drops shards" patch, so why did they?
Whine whine Whine.
You can go and do level 50 TFs for Shards. Personally I think it might help with some of the burnout for people who just run the weekly TF for everything.
If you look at the schedule, the ITF is the week of March 15. Cimemora is a Roman Zone. Do you know what March 15 is?

Morning all. -
All the people who have been saying that someone should pick up the mantle, well, I have to say read the reasoning given better.
1) They said that Grae left over a year ago and have tried to keep it going
2) The group has become very inactive
That being said, is it sad that they are closing their doors? Yes. Is it the right thing to do, well, their current leadreship thinks so, and that tough choice I respect. Will they be missed, yes and no.
They will become like a lot of the groups who used to be around and highly visible. Missed to some extent, and remembered fondly. I look at how groups like the Winter Knights, The Angry Angels, and others have either seemed to have disappeared or completely disbanded. I look at other groups such as Hero Dawn, The American Legion, The Justice Girls, have come in behind and picked up the slack and become very active and large.
The Paragonian Knights will live on in the hearts and minds of many -

The dates of the gathers I have had plans. I have enjoyed them when I can get there, but RL does get in the way at times. Plus people being around tends to be cyclical. It will get better, just need to keep reminding people about it.
