Quote:These are not Supported by Microsoft in the least, so if there winds up a problem you have no recourse. You do not need to install any OS in order to "upgrade" to Windows 7. There are two methods of doing a completely fresh W7 install using the upgrade disk.
The first way is to format your drive, then install the upgrade. CANCEL when it asks you to activate. When it gets to the dekstop (Windows 7 thinks it is a trial version until activated), start the install process again. It will run the upgrade but not actually do anything.
Another option is to follow these instructions. -
FYI about using an Upgrade Win 7 version with XP:

THERE IS NO AGE RESTRICTION ANYMORE ON THE RWZ OR ANYTHING OUTSIDE OF CIMEMORA, OROBOROS AND THE PVP ZONES! THEY TOOK AWAY THE RESTRICTION IN I16
Seriously, I had a level 20 on a raid recently. It was a blast. Super Sidkicking makes it so much fun. -

Good Morning Rook! -
Well, I said this in the other thread also, but there is no Upgrade from XP to Win7. Windows 7 has to be a full disk and clean load. You can only upgrade from Vista, which makes me think maybe there is something wrong with the Win7 you are using (pirated fake software, bad disk).
Looks like your Hardware should be able to handle it. Also it sounds like it could be your security software causing the problem. With Win 7 I know I had to update to a more recent version of my Internet Security Suite (Kaspersky). I would start by removing the CA security software and seeing if CoH runs ok, since you said it seemed to before that was installed. -
I have run CoH under both Cedega and Wine. Well I should say attempted to. Game ran fine, my graphics card on the laptop was not supported (stupid intel) so I had the same issues with graphics as when I tried to run CoH on the same machine under windows.
Yes it was Ubuntu, and this was back under Versions 7 and 8 of it plus Version 9. I know others that do also.
Realize that the fact it runs under OS X is a big tip off that it will, since we are talking about Unix derivitives in both cases. It is just not supported under Linux. -
I like this idea, but the problem is what is a proper ammount of time. I know some people it takes a couple minutes to verify CoH or reboot their machine, while others it takes 20+ minutes.

Quote:First off, you have me a bit confused. There is no upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7. To install Windows 7 over Windows XP you need to wipe and load Windows 7 only. Microsoft has no upgrade that way.My August Sirs,
Your responces got me thinking and I realized that trying to run an update from an XP version which is a bare bones XP on a new drive was causing my problems with the launch screen not coming up. So I ripped everything apart and started over, full install of XP, service pack, and three hits of Windows Update. Then I installed Windows 7 over that and it worked sort-of. COH-updater would launch and update my software. But after Security software (Computer Associates) and something going wrong with the way COH wants to see the graphic cards COH black screened during load. Message says that I have to have Direct X 8 or later. I just installed DX-10. It says I dont have a keyboard. Trust me on this, I have a keyboard.
What the heck is going on?

Are you sure you have a legitimate copy of Win 7? How old is your hardware? What are your system specs?
I'd like to know those plus the CoH Helper and Hijack This Logs. -

Quote:I guess I am not use to bugs being in games for over the time I paid for. Most games that I have played before have fixed most major bugs with in 2 weeks.
Is it a bad bug, yes, is it a Major Bug, I don't know if I would classify it as that seeing as how few bug reports they had gotten on it, that it affect only 1 supported card, and there is more than just Paragon Studios to deal with on the issue.
Is it major for you? Yes. For that I can understand you being upset about. -

Welcome to Virtue!
There are a lot of RP SGs out there, and a SG Fair coming up in about a week. Also check out The Cape Radio (Link in my sig) as we have a fairly active community of people from all different areas and SGs that hang out and RP together. -

Ok, I need to step in here and say something, especially to MageX.
I know most of you don't care about The Cape, but I was there, I was live on air, and I interviewed Dark Watcher afterward. I asked him flat out if what we were shown and told at the Opening Ceremonies was jsut the tip of the iceberg, like it seemed, or was that the meat of the whole thing.
Dark Watcher said on air (and I will ahve it up for podcast on The Cape's site (see sig) this weekend), "Yes it is just the tip of the iceburg."
Therefore, there is more to come, and a first glimpse, major glimps at some aspects, but first glimpse, is just that. -

Quote:See my thoughts for you in my other thread. Also I had to run the install as Administrator. My August Sirs,
I swiched to Windows 7, really tired of XP I guess,
*background singers* dont know what you got...
I have a 32bit machine and use a RELESE version of Win7-home premium. I loaded COH into its own partition, from the "Good vs Evil" DVD. When launched the first time, the COH Updater download the current version which seemed to load normally.
COH does not suport Windows 7, at all, on my configuration. When you attemp to launch it locks up fast and ugly. Have to trundle the Task Manager out to scrape it off the desktop.
I have; No Router, "forced the port numbers" as recommended by COH support (my favorite), cleaned and reinstalled 'framwork3.5 .net', and loaded Aion with its new launcher. The dog won't hunt, and now I have to remove Aion not being a farie gammer.

Win 7 has a tighter security setup in it, and changes to system files and registry tends to be a lot tighter. CoH was written with XP in mind, so using run as admin is required.
And I've been running the official release for 2 months thanks to being in an IT department for a living. -
Quote:Even in Full Screen mode, I had noticed mine was over 1 GB nearing 1.5 GB as the years have gone on. Now mind you, I have added in a better Graphics card, upped resolution, changed features, plus obvious upgrades to the game (QOL, etc...) and how much must run at once. Memory creep is inevitable. I also noticed a thread in here about a recent memory leak that I think has not been plugged yet.If you play windowed mode, type cntl shift esc to bring up the windows task manager, and you can watch the memory allocation creep up.
Mine inevitably crashes after crossing the 1.45GB mark, no matter how many reloadgfxes I do.
Anyway, Every issue released, the game seems to bump up the specs a little bit. Depending on your GPU, and Graphics memory, maybe more is being offloaded into regular memory. -
Quote:That actually sounds like you are not right clicking and running the program as ADMIN, which you need to do (You can also go into the properties and tell it to always run as admin). My August Sirs,
COH does not support my Windows 7 machine.
The launch screen won't.
The launch screen locks up very fast and ugly, have to trundle out the Task Manager to scrape it off the desktop. I just reinstalled COH on my 32bit machine which has been running COH for three years. Aion won't launch either, but no one cares about that really.
My contact with support has been... arms length. They suggested visits to webpages which have arcane solutions for XP and Vista problems. "force the port number" is my favorite. I implemented all of the recomendation.
City of Heroes is not launching on my machine, ergo not supported. I am 4 days out in rl and counting. I think a more industrious effort to be ready for a new operating system would have been far superior to "lets make my fire troller pink".
Yours,
Jack Noir - Knights of Justice, Guardian and Virtue
Its a common issue if you have Vista or Win7.
Now on the support for Windows 7, Win 7 was officially released last week. The official statement is that CoH is not supported even on Vista, but it does work on Vista, just like Win 7. -

Quote:There wasn't. Noone really wanted to step up and really with the way Virtue runs, we as players aren't as close as some of the other lower populated servers are. I just found it interesting from the standpoint of what Virtue does with events, etc that noone did stand up.Well, I think it's all based on the number of people who play on Virtue. There were quite a few people I saw that I didn't recognize, and I've played almost entirely just on Virtue for almost 4 years now.
Was there even a thread on the Virtue forums about having a Virtue meet and greet?
