The MS mice use the built-in OS X drivers and settings.
-

That black box is almost always caused by third party mouse/trackpad software. Try removing anything like that first.
-
Actually mice are probably the best product Microsoft makes. I have this mini optical mouse of theirs for use while CoH on the Macbook Pro.
-
Try this: Create a new user on your Mac and switch to it, and then try running CoH and going to the store. That way we can check if the problem is some sort of software conflict.
-
Are you using any 3rd-party firewalls like Norton or Little Snitch?

Quote:Don't turn them ALL the way down, if you turn them below "recommended", then Cider switches to software rendering which is even more CPU intensive.I plan on trying to run the game on the MBA at some point. I've been told that if you turn the settings all the way down, the intel GPU chipset won't explode.
I have people send me Word and Excel documents all the time, and I haven't had one fail to open yet. There's a first for everything, though. -
Quote:MS Office is about as sluggish and obnoxious as it is on Windows. In your experience, does the office suite for Mac perform well?
I use Pages and Numbers myself just because they start up quickly and don't clog up the screen with unnecessary crap just to write a one-page thing. -
Quote:What brand of VPN is it? Some of them have their own clients for download. (tell me via PM if you'd rather the whole world didn't know)The only major compatibility issue I've got right now is with our VPN software here at work. It doesn't like to connect through anything but a browser for the time being.
Quote:For now, for email and other office related things I'm using Open Office and Thunderbird (the default mail app doesn't play as nicely). I will, eventually, invest in Office for the Mac, but that's more than likely a month or so down the road (or at least until I need to start working on Power Points for the Pummit).

Select the "Go" menu in the Finder and then "Go to Folder...". Type "~/Library/Preferences" and then click Go.
After that, find the "City of Heroes Preferences" folder and drag it to the trash. Then run CoH again. You will have to enter your settings again for the game, but it should work.
Customer Support should have a similar procedure if you contact them, only after some troubleshooting with Safe Mode. -
See if you can contact the Mids designers and not only get their blessing, but see if they will distribute it as well.
-
They are different locations, presumably because the Mac launcher has a different sized window.
-
Someone at Paragon hasn't been updating the launcher site properly.
-
You could also add these at much less cost:
8 GB RAM for $39.99
512 GB SSD for $664
That brings the total for upgrades to around $700 with an SSD.
Upgrading a Macbook Pro is not that difficult - ifixit.com has guides for it. -
I just looked, and the Mac launcher does indeed have an old news page (Winter Event). The PC Launcher has an ad for coyote travel power.
-
Only on Parallels or VMWare at the moment.
-
Old news really isn't a problem, that's not from a Launcher update - that's actually a web page located at Paragon Studios' web site somewhere.

Quote:The Windows and Apple drivers behave a lot differently, so a lot of the AMD bugs in CoH don't appear on the Mac. Then again, some of the nVidia bugs appear in CoH for the Mac on AMD.Not talking about "performance". Talking about AMD's drivers being ridiculously tetchy with CoH.
Quote:There's no such thing as 100% reliable hardware from anyone. Period.
There ARE highly reliable options within the Wintel/WinAMD space though. At multiple price points.
Quote:Let's just say that there's a market for Mac products. And while I know that market, I'm most definitely NOT a part of it. Saying anything more than that will just make me sound like I'm being offensive.
I always tell people to use whatever makes them happy. If you aren't happy, that's when I would suggest a change. And if you want to try a change, go for it and don't let the trolls sway you.
If you want to know how it makes me happy, that's a better question. The model I selected, a Macbook Pro, really takes the place of 3 computers. 1) I'm an iOS developer so I need the Mac for that; 2) but rather than also buy a Windows laptop for dual-box gaming, I chose a model that can handle that too. And 3), if I travel or my gaming PC dies, I have one single lightweight laptop that can take its place for a while. -
Quote:SSD would be faster, but also cost around ten times as much as a 7200 RPM laptop drive. There are also two Seagate models that are 7200 RPM and also have a small SSD on board called Hybrid drives. Not as fast as SSD but faster than hard drives. In the world of Mac, what would be better, 7400 SATA drive or solid state drive in a laptop?
FYI, 7200 RPM uses more power and generates more heat than both SSD and 4200 RPM also. -
I could give a list of troubleshooting steps, but the fact is it's probably faster and easier to download it from the CoH web site again. Let me know if that works.

Quote:If you mean system RAM, that is upgradeable, as well as the hard drive (there are guides online at places like ifixit.com). The video and video RAM are not upgradeable. Still, a Radeon HD 6770 should give pretty good performance. You're still limited on on-board RAM because of the iMac platform and the video is essentially a mobile solution.
Quote:The problem is, if this is going to be a CoH machine, AMD is NOT the way to go. Look around the help forums for all the people playing musical drivers with their AMD/ATI video cards to find something stable. Add that on top of the Mac "quirks" and...
Quote:This is one of my major beefs with Apple, how inflexible their platform is. Were this a Wintendo PC, I could just give you a nice list of parts and you could assemble it yourself.
Aside from those comments, though, you pretty much hit the nail on the head.
I now have a 2011 Macbook Pro model with ATI video and high-res graphics (I needed the extra room on the display for work). It actually runs CoH about as well as the desktop does. As for priciness...yes, I probably would have thought twice about the cost if I didn't use it for a lot more than gaming. It's great to have one small, lightweight laptop that can do it all, though - reliable gaming, work, and a little bit of impressing flash for meetings with clients. -
If you have antivirus installed, turn it off.
-
Some of you are talking about the Windows version of NC Launcher, which is different from the Mac version.
-
CoH had a few memory leaks fixed.
Though I did notice yesterday that full screen uses a LOT more CPU than windowed mode, for some reason.
