  1. This is an ATI issue, and the devs have been previously notified - but you might want to send a note to help.ncsoft.com anyway in case they forgot.

You will have to experiment a bit to fix the issue. For instance, try using Cmd-Tab (minimize) instead of Cmd-Enter, or set to a lower resolution and play in windowed mode all the time, or try typing /reloadgfx and hitting Return before you switch to windowed mode.

Turning off Geometry Buffers will reduce the amount of crashes and lag, but it won't eliminate it. Try using /reloadgfx every hour or so.

Also, the F7 thru F9 keys on newer Macs control iTunes without having to switch away from the game (F10 for mute, F11 and F12 for volume).
  2. Only downloaded once for me, so I'm unable to test the issue at the moment. Try sending in a support request.
  3. Contacting support is about right for now, the devs are aware of that issue - hopefully will be fixed soon.

    Not connecting

I have heard of patch server issues with the EU version of the game, especially with the training room. Are you getting the same issues with the windows version *at all*? It might be highly intermittent.

    Follow the instructions here first:

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=199092

Let us know if that works.

    Also email Support from help.ncsoft.com
  6. No, I have a Macbook Pro with the nVidia 330M.
  7. Figure out what the monitor's native resolution is and set to that one.
  8. Sounds like you missed step 6 and 7. You can still change that now though.
  9. I totally missed this thread.

I have Reflections set to low, Water set to High, Shadows set to High, Ambient Occlusion OFF, and FSAA OFF.
  10. Are you installing it in a limited user account?

    Here's a screen of my Info.plist file.
Is the patcher displaying an error or just displaying "Connecting...#1" etc forever? If it's the latter it may just be the patch server is very busy. Otherwise you'd have to ask Support or Skippy about it - I'm not familiar with the difference between the US and EU test clients.
  12. Skippy's instructions assume you have Xcode Developer Tools installed - while most people don't, the CoH devs with Macs probably have to.

Here's the same instructions Skippy posted altered slightly for people who don't have Xcode Developer Tools installed:

First, download the Training Room client from the FTP site (ftp://client.coh.com/Test/).

    1. Click your City of Heroes Training Room Client and select Duplicate from the Finder's File menu. Name the new file City of Heroes Beta

    2. Right click or Control+Left Click on City of Heroes Beta

    3. Select Show Package Contents

    4. Double-click on Contents

    5. Double-click on Info.plist

    6. Look for the phrase CiderGameOptions, and locate the part that says "-- cohupdater.exe -test"

    7. Change that line to "-- cohupdater.exe -beta"

    8. Look for the phrase PrefsFolderName and locate the part that says "City of Heroes Training Room Preferences"

    9. Change that to "City of Heroes Beta Preferences"

    10. Close the text editor and double-click City of Heroes Beta to launch it

P.S. Step 9 and 10 are a good idea even if you're using Xcode Developer Tools, since it will prevent the Training Room preferences from overlapping the Beta ones.

Oh I forgot - the stray pixels are also caused sometimes by turning on Ambient Occlusion with FSAA also turned on.
  14. Actually those stray pixels are caused by Vertical Sync not working. That should be repaired soon(tm).
  15. Try turning setting Geometry Buffers to Disabled and see if that improves things for you. I've been testing that setting for a while now after it was recommended by another poster.

By the way, even though it's probably obvious, I've never done a keybind or macro or anything before.
In the Options for the game (that's on the game menu) there's a tab called Keybinds I believe. If you scroll way down, there's an item on that page called Screenshot. Click one of the two assignments to the right of that, and then hit the key combo you want to use for a screenshot (I used Ctrl-~). You'll have to set this combo once per character.
  17. Use the Finder's File > Duplicate to make a copy of the City of Heroes application and call it something like City Of Heroes (2).
  18. The first section of my Guide (in the signature) covers something similar (copying from a PC client to a Mac client) but it should give you a pretty good clue of what to do. If it's too confusing let me know.
  19. I don't really use Steam - you can probably email NC Support and see if they know, but they might not either. Best bet would be to contact Steam directly.

Any time there's a sudden performance change it's usually something that was installed recently, probably unrelated to the game.
  21. Are you using Steam? It sounds like there's some kind of background process chipping away at the processing power. Try this:

    1. Close all applications.
    2. Open Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor.
    3. Click the CPU % column and sort so the highest amount is at the top.
    4. That's probably your culprit.

After that check your Login Items (in System Preferences > Accounts) to see if anything there matches the high CPU use, and remove it.

EDIT: Before you try all that, reboot and see if it improves the speed. It may just be a stuck wine/cider process.
  22. Did games always lag like that or did this start recently?
