  1. ^ I was about to say the same thing. In which case you may as well go Traps/anything Defender, get the higher values on Traps and a better set of weapons. However, that does defeat the "whip weapon" character concept.

Although I would assume with capped defense almost anything can survive just fine. Killing speed and DPS would be of interest to me in this scenario. Especially for a Fire Farm.

  4. You flatter me to think I could cause such so much angst amongst such an elite group of players.

  5. TopDoc had his famous CEBR FARM 1-50 in 3 HOURS OR LESS mission banned shortly after MARTy's activation. Then, after petitioning it, the dev team unbanned it.

This would tend to indicate that they have no issue with farms in AE if they are willing to unban them after MARTy flags them as possible exploits. They've ruled on this one very publicly, and I know of other farms that got similar treatment already.

OTOH, anybody here know what happened to a certain recent thread with a lot of activity decrying certain Fire-themed AE ambush missions? Hmmmmmmm....could have sworn that was JUST HERE a moment ago. :-)
  6. I get a kick out of teaming with one or more additional Beamers. When you both hit the same target (not always coordinated...just happens) I swear it looks like a scene right out of Ghostbusters or Star Trek as both beams tag the critter.

The extra disintegration spread is just icing on the cake. Visuals are outstanding.

Don't cross the streams? Please....do it and do it frequently!
  7. Not only extra HP, but your pets are also:

-Aggro diversion from you (very helpful)
-Extra damage on your behalf (obviously)
-Extra healing for you (I get about +200 health every time they heal)
-Extra shielding for you(Ember Demons shield will grant you around 25% S/L/Toxic and about 34% on fire..stacks nicely with epic shield or Tough)

If your goal is you don't want the whole entourage, you could consider just taking the Tier 2 and 3 henchies. That gives you some buffing, healing and a great little aggro diversion to soak up the alpha strike. Think of them like a Traps player thinks of their seeker drones....just disposable alpha eaters. I often only summon my Tier 1's on iTrials to throw some diversion for my pursuers in the lab/warehouse cycle or to pull aggro off of me.
  8. As a Demon/TA MM (just hit 50), no way in hell are you going to be anything but the speedo-wearing fat kid at the swimming pool without your pets.

/TA may not be the worst secondary for a MM, but its no prize either. And the whips, even fully slotted, just do abysmal damage.

You may as well go roll a lobster-form Peacebringer if that's your plan. At least you'll survive.

I was actually talking Missions, not Arcs. If we were talking Arcs, they'd likely bring the number down lower than 5.

I'm not necessarily advocating this approach. I'm just saying that it matches other game mechanics already in place. They clearly don't want us farming for Hero merits so they put systems in place to prevent that. This seems like a logical application of the same principle to me.

That's actually pretty gracious of you. I'd use the entire Shadow Shard content library as my baseline. That place is a monotonous bore-fest with almost every mission being a repeat of the one before it.

My best guess as to what strategy for AE emerges next:

AE missions will behave like Tip missions. You can run 5 per day and get full XP/ticket benefits. You can run as many as you like afterwards but will achieve zero benefit after the initial 5 until 20+ hours have elapsed.

This will curb farm use of AE to just those farmers who are doing it casually. It still actively encourages alt-itis (as I advocate all farming does) which is great business for the company. You want to PL, you can....just 5 missions per day per PL candidate. The farmer quits earning anything after the first five runs, although they may go totally ebil and turn off any rewards for participants on a team where the leader has maxed out their 5 "AE Tips" missions. But I think that would not be in keeping with the spirit of teaming (punishing other players for the activities of just one seems unreasonable).

Now if you wanted to go from 1-50, it will likely take several days of running AE farms to do this. By then, I think people will have turned to 'normal' content to achieve their speed-PL strategies. But that assumes that the Devs don't put such a counter on ALL mission content. My bet, however, is that they field trial it on AE first as that's a pretty self-contained target and likely easier coding than to apply it to all mission behavior everywhere.

    Oh and....

  13. I was teamed up with a Thugs/Time MM last night, all of us around lvl 35. He was using the Times Juncture power and basically wading into +2/x8 spawns with it running, grabbing aggro (wasn't aware it did that actually) and then running to the next spawn, grabbing aggro there as well and pulling them to one another. Then his Thug entourage would just pretty much take everything out. Several of the rest of us were pretty much just along for the farming show.

Amazing synergy....I have seen other Tankerminds with Provoke doing this but wow...just...wow. Makes me want that combo now!

Anyone know if Bots/Time would work as well as this?

Its all in your head. People can't tell you don't have all purples slotted (not that you could even if you wanted to on a any single build). They can pull up your info and look at your set bonus listing, but that's not descriptive enough to tell them everything unless they want to spend a long time and make a spreadsheet out of your info tab.

Relax. Its a game. The only person worrying about this is you. I take many toons to 50 on SO's only and retire them (or delete them). Only my most powerful AT's, or those I think SHOULD play better with IO nudges here and there than they have with SO's, get any investment in the IO system at all. I've T4'd out a handful of my 50's and yes, they also happen to be heavily vested with IO sets as well. But to date, I only have slotted a handful of purples that I earned from drops across my entire lineup of toons.

I do agree that if AE can't be made to work for storytelling -- if there really is no market amongst the playerbase for player-generated content -- it should be shut down. Better that it did not exist than to leave it as some warped Monty Haul loot generator, festering like a gangrenous wound.
What, if people use AE to farm, just not as amateur hour for mission content, it needs to be shut down?

Why worry about how people use it, just so long that they do?

    Beam Rifle/what?

I can tell you that at 43, my Beam/Traps Corr had a LOT of endurance issues in his early to mid 30's. At 35 I slotted in a Perfomance Shifter +END into 3-slotted Stamina. That didn't do much. Then I double-slotted Health and dropped in both the Numina +Recovery/+Regen and Miracle +Recovery. Once I had those three in place, my END issues became far more manageable.

/Traps isn't all that END heavy. Beam, especially cycling Disintegrate frequently per spawn, is very end heavy, or so it seems to me. As I started dropping in LOTG +RCHG and IO sets that grant me +RCHGE, I realize that END can be problematic for those not slotting all three uniques. It sure was for me.

Honestly, having made a couple of Shield melee toons recently, I'm rather interested to see how long before the Devs decide that "Defensive self-powers need a nerf," similar to the global defense nerf we received a few years back.

My Elec/Shield scrapper, even with a modest (under $500MM) investment in IO sets, is virtually untouchable and with his two AOE's a one-man team in +4/x8 PVE content.

There's little use for Defenders for some Defense-based sets.

I respecced back into the ST Hold from /Time. Once I started facing off against Malta and Longbow, even with good defense, I still find myself needing to lock down the guys who can drop my toggles.
  19. Just hit 41 with my Beam/Traps last night and loving it. Highly survivable and with Scourage plays a lot like a Blaster with mezz protection.

You'll love FFG....even on SO's, once I picked up Weave and Maneuvers, I'm just not getting hit.
  20. More likely scenario: They were pulled because NCSoft now intends to charge you Paragon Points for them as "premium content."

    They'll be back...for a small fee.

Coming up next: AE licensed content features. Want to populate your map with walrus-tusked cherubs? Well now you can for the low, low price of......?

If ever we needed NCSoft's validation that AE Farming is A-OK....we just got it.

OK, you got me...I didn't see notice of level pacts ending inside a server maintenance announcement. Shame on me.

But it still contradicted their earlier commitment that we'd have Level Pacts available through the entire VIP Head Start program.
  25. After all this noise, the Dev community has finally demonstrated that Farm Arcs are perfectly legitimate and most definitely not an exploit.

TopDoc (creator of the infamous CEBR) had his Claw/Elec 1-50 in 2 hours AE Farm arc unbanned today. He had to make the requisite changes to eliminate the rezzers, but since they've now unbanned his arc, its clear they don't consider AE farms "inappropriate."

Still, I'm betting haters gonna hate.
