Remember how people would whine about all the good names being taken and suggest the devs free up names from inactive accounts and the devs said no? They don't want to risk alienating returning players with that. I'm guessing that same thiking would apply here.

Rather than unpublish, they could mark all - ALL - arcs with a 'do not show in search' and send every author a message that asks them to go to AE, PLEASE make sure the arc is playing 'right', "maybe give it a once-over", and then click a button to make it visible in search again. Combine that with a "works in progress do not show in search" function and I think that's clear the search (which needs its own help too, yes) of a lot of dross, without annoying people previous authors who came back and wondered where the arc they spent HOURS on got to.

And yes, switch to a "like"-only system of rating an arc. Showing previous player comments would be nice too.

Something about those white maps really eats up video memory and is hard to process, I have no idea why.
I get that in those rooms too. I can play in them, just have to adjust my mindset to twitchy viewing and sort of intuitively knowing when to stop running forward, turning around etc. I probably don't suffer from it as much as you did though.
  3. Back in the days of speculation about the then-upcoming i19, I put forth the idea that they could/should find some way to wiggle in some AE in there to get some players to take a look at the whole AE experience. This was especially regarding the fact they're saying that more stuff will be added every issue from now on.

Considering how quickly you can farm for tickets - the usual exploiting issues aside even! I'm not even talking things like meow and monkeys - I dunno if buying a shard with them is the best idea, it sounds too easy. I seem to recall having read someone on the market forums saying he can max out ticket count in like ten minutes with a decent farm.
  4. Well, rats, what're we going to talk about here now? We've reached the end of the internet!
  5. Assuming they didn't ask first (and, I think, even if they did), they were idiots. OK, too harsh... they were being silly.

By the time it's scattering foes, everyone else on the team should have just used their bestest AoEs and already have most of the foes so far down the health bar that the rest of their lives could be counted in seconds - on one hand even, if that, especially once RoF starts in. To have those foes then turn and start to run instead of attack is something good.

I feel you got kicked from a team of very anal players - my playstyle (which is anything but) says that a good thing.
  6. The random button is your friend - seriously! Keep hitting it until something clicks for you and then start building up the rest of the toon's look from there.

That'd be an awfully long list. Awfully long.
  9. Remove the XP? Baby... bathwater... you know how that saying goes.
  10. The last buncha times I played before getting caught up in the endless homework of making a new MA arc I was leveling up some new toons, including an MA/SS scrapper, an Elec/Mace tank, and an Ill/Rad troller (who's still sans Fitness pools at 33 as I was planning for this change).

When I heard about this change coming I was pretty well excited and could see the possibilities already. I just remember that scrapper leaving her SS powers off all the time (below 20) because I couldn't afford to run them and fight at the same time... so I was already well aware of just how much better this would make the low levels.

Now if I can just finish that stupid arc and PLAY!
  11. I would love it if someone would corner some devs at a con and ask them about this topic... and the 8 arc cap... and about plans to clean up the interface... and weed out the broken arcs... and... and... and...

Preferably someone who looks like they should be named "Guido".
  12. I'd go with caltrops. They're a life safer in the early levels, especially if you solo. You can block a door with them if you need to run (yeah, I've plays stalkers). They auto-hit. Combine them with a knock-down power and that guy or guys aren't going anywhere. You can stand in the middle of them and keep melee'ers at bay (my Fire/Traps Corr barely got touched when I was taking down Black Scorpion).

And yet I've seen builds that suggest not taking them. This may just be my personal play style though.

If they want to pay more money just to have more slots banned, I don't see the problem.
My examples were just provided as that - examples, please don't miss my forest for its trees. I'm just playing dev's advocate for the idea that maybe the dev's have a reason for not allowing us more than eight slots. Here's another: Perhaps their reasoning is coming from a game economy stand-point. Maybe they don't like the idea of a 'good arc writer' getting so many tickets in if they have over 8 arcs that are all golden.

(Also, I realized that changing current five star rating into thumbs-up ratings would end up having the same 'bad effect' WN mentioned: older arcs that got tons of plays in the old days would end up pages ahead of newer arcs.)
  14. Ok then, wipe everything clean, including the number of plays (I'm sure this idea will go over well too!). Some of those old arcs are broken these days anyways.

To be a tad more serious, I do like the idea of a five star vote equaling thumbs up; I think I'd toss in 4-star ratings too. But then I wonder if they'd decide to also make 1-star and two-star ratings thumbs down, just to "be fair"?

And to bring up something else, I've been idly thinking about the 8-slot max and wondering if they don't want to keep it there to encourage us to take off older arcs. Perhaps they're thinking that, theoretically, the arcs a person with 8 full slots is doing these days should be better due to more skill and so on. There may also be an issue with people who've had banned arcs and lost a slot just buying more and putting up more ban-able stuff (or reposting the banned ones). Just idle thoughts...

Reset them all to "not yet rated" like any new arc, yet still show the number of plays for all to see. The author got his tickets already, it's not like they'd be taking away something of real value with that. Couple it with a deadwood-sweeping effect and I'd be perfectly happy with it.
  16. I think I wouldn't have spent as much time reading the forums.

I think I wouldn't have spent as much time listening the (now-gone) devs.

Most applicable part bolded. Seriously, I hate respecing, it's like dull homework when I could be out bashing someone or working on an AE mish. Even with a carefully thought out build on paper in front of me it's a dull PITA. I've only done it... hm, once? that I can recall because the build needed to be rethought after they fixed the way Poison Trap worked.

Maybe if they were to someday make respecing more friendly I might... if I ever feel the need to play those toons again.

    Finally!!!

Grazz! I got mine some months back and still haven't brought myself to spend much of it. :P It would help if I actually marketeered on a regular basis rather than when the will struck.
  20. Clave_Dark_5

    I 19

I've been playing a new tank who I've slotted under the normal-yet-soon-to-be-old conditions and an Ill/Rad troller whom I've just skipped that whole pool on. It's been tough sometimes, what with having to slot for End and converting every last Insp drop I get to blues, but overall it hasn't been as hard as I thought it would be. Now, if it had been my MA/SR scrapper... :P

So I'm not holding off too much, but some other toons I started for GR are just sitting.

That's not to say it can't be effective enough without them, but I can Tankermind for teams, not just solo. How many of you claim the same?
I stand corrected on resistance, you're right about the use Bodyguard.

I find (on my storm and dark) MMs that taking agro is really pretty easy with the AoE slows and such, nothing like a Tar Patch to draw agro.

    ...
*"Tankermind" refers to a style of play that concentrates on getting enemies to attack the Mastermind directly, rather than diffusing their attacks over the henchmen. Generally, it requires use of the Provoke power (from the Presence pool) and direct attacks from the Mastermind, and utilises "Bodyguard mode" (when minions are set on defensive and react to their master being attacked rather than instigating combat), which effectively serves as (depending on how you look at it) either 75% resistance to everything, or a health pool on par with Tankers.
I've quite successfully played tankermind sans any of the attacks from the MM primaries, 75% resistance, Provoke or a health pool on par with tankers.

My take on one solid reason to skip the attacks is that there are usually (If not "always") far more useful power choices you can make in your secondary. And I'm not sure you can comparatively describe the damage from your minions as merely "taking up the slack".

This can be, to a degree, a matter of play-style I'll grant, min/maxing of one sort or another (plus some people can't stand just standing around while their pets do the mayhem - my dark and storm Bots MMs still whipped out their Nemesis staffs nearly all the time), but I don't think you painted the picture as it is.

Nnnnoo, I think you'll find there is no plausible argument for spending that sort of money in my world view - this coming from someone who bid-creeps when shopping for a Kinetic Weapon.
  24. When GR came out, I saw a couple of those ghoul costume codes for sale on eBay and thought about bidding on one until I saw they were going for over 30 bucks. I can't fathom spending this much for something so basically useless. /em boggle

Not long ago, I bought and crafted a handful of these at that level for frankenslotting a tank I'm working on and let them sit on my stalker market toon until the tank was ready for them (yes, I know, "waste of slots" and all that, but she's a lazy marketeer). Somewhere along the way I must have decided I had one too many so I put it up for sale - I think. I don't remember doing it, maybe I accidentally clicked on it in my "stored" and put it up for sale, who knows at what price.

So I log in my stalker marketeer one day... hm, perhaps it was about the 7th?... and I found I'd sold one of these that I didn't even know I had put up for sale. It sold for 200mil, which was about exactly one extra zero above the last five prices. That cash went straight to a troller I'm slotting up and despite buying some IOs already, he's earned enough to keep his bankroll above 200mil.

So either this error is "going around" or someone 'round here has found another way to burn inf for teh lulz.
