Quote:Not familiar with the starboard... is that a drawable videoscreen tablet too?Not *that* cool of a tablet monitor, I have a Hitachi Starboard, but the anchor tool lets you plot points, and then using handles, pull the section of line between two points into a curve, so for instance to slap an outline on a circle you'd put down 4 points at the top, bottom, left, and right and between each pair pull the line out til it matched the curve of the circle. It works really well for making 'inks' of scanned pencil sketches for instance. Also very awesome for cel shading coloring.
Quote:I need to get a copy of a better paint program.
currently using paint.net and the paintbrush has no options other than size >.<
Crude is being generous.
BTW CR that is looking awesome nice work!!
Well I'm no pro in this area (some of the more talented digital artists can chime in I'm sure) but since
you asked in my thread I would say the obvious industry standard is Photoshop and in case you
didn't know you can get Photoshop Elements which has like 70% of everything photoshop has but
only costs about 16% of CS4's exorbitant price tag. If you are really on a budget there is the totally
free and open source GIMP as well (which is what Pyro is using to make those metallic button avatars).
I haven't yet tried to learn my way around DA yet or post anything there... I just got an account so'z I kin see teh bewbies!
What makes you ask?
Quote:For a track ball. that my friend is talent.
Just wanted to add you've been doing some fine work latelykeep it up!
Well the computer stuff has been slow this last few days so I've had the time.
I kinda hope it picks up again... but then I kinda hope it doesn't so I can lounge around and doodle lol.

Quote:Nice work Kindeller... oh and you made Desdemona's eyes green... easy.I wanted to grab a GR wallpaper and when i looked at the options i was a little shocked to find there was no combining shot of both Des and Mal. So i decided to photoshop the two figures along with the "going rogue" title and tagline.
Heres the result if anyone else wants to use it too:
If you want a larger/smaller resolution give a shout and i'll make them but i think it will fit most desktops anyway.
Regards,
Kind
P.S Props to whoever can see the change i made to one of the characters

I'd love one of these Pyro!
If you could work my avatar into one with gold to orangeish-brown (VexXxa's favorite color)
ring like the one you have around your fiery self in the first post that would be great
Let me know if you need a larger size image of it.

Good work Scooter, your drawing is coming along nicely.
P.S. If you are doing animated avatars I've had an idea for a really hilarious/awesome
one forever but haven't fully gotten the hang of animating avatars yet... well certainly
not to your level of mastery anyway.
PM me if you have some time... mayhap a trade of some sort would be in order?
Some work on one of your pieces or a sketch perhaps? -
Quote:First off I love the signature bar!Looking for some feedback and suggestions. I'm gonna create Reference Sheets for a few of my favorites...while I save up money for a commision or two. As an artist, what do you wanna see in a "ref sheet"? Close up poses? Action movement? Backstory? As much of everying, all in one spot?
Check out the Ref Sheet I did for Natrix. Please use the "N" button in my signature (speaking of...how do you like the signature bar?) Feedback / comments / suggestions are appreciated!
xoxo
Pyro
the only thing I would suggest to make it better would be to add a rim around it about half the thinkness
as the rings (if you can squeeze it in) around the buttons so it's more consistent.
The buttons themselves look cool... are they hard to do?
On the reference sheet, as an artist what I would look for...
1: Ideally the image should be brightly lit and well contrasted so you can see little details
2: The pose should be neutral, I prefer to add the motion myself unless their is a specific pose
or animation you want to see in the finished piece.
3: There should be a close-up of the face.
4: Including the Bio is fine I have it mine too but I'm thinking yours for Natrix takes up way
too much space. The pictures are far more important than the text. (this is not a reference
I send out to people but you can see what i'm talking about ---> here.
I think the one you have for TKO is your best.
I also have different sheet depending on whether or not the artist plays (and /or is familiar with) CoH.
If they know the game like the back of their hand then it's all about showing the costume, no fancy
poses, no powers.
If they are unfamiliar with the game I will include a brief note saying what powers my hero has and
what they look like along with a few "action shots."
I just had this discussion with Ennvee a few days back on vent cuz she asked me to take some references
for her here is an example of what I gave her... note the facial closeup and the high contrast
(even though the suit is mostly black you can still make out everything). Granted the background isn't
the best but I had no villains on her server so we could only meet up in Pocket D or Ouro lol.
Alternatively you could just send them a slideshow (it can be paused, slowed down, and repeated as necessary too)
and let them look through and pick out what they like from that.

Thankies FT.
P.S. Hey VexXxa can you PM me a link to the scoop I think I missed an episode or three and can't find the links from the main page.
Quote:I'm seriously loving all your work, dude.... Without even trying you're convincing me to never even think about trying to do art again since I know I could never get anywhere close to your stuff.
I'm sorry that answer is incorrect! Thanks for playing To Draw or Not To Draw.
The correct answer was given by Starwind here...
Quote:Wonderful work CR! You should definitely get back into your art, you have skills! I would love to see more of your work.
I'm in a similar boat. I did much pencil/paper illustration back in the day and pretty much just stopped. I'm not schooled in anatomy and my computer skills are self taught, so I'm in a bit of no man's land. Seeing so much talent on these boards is intimidating but your posting has inspired me to break out my sketch book again and see what emerges. Thank you!
I started out drawing stick figure ninjas (cuz if your gonna do stick people they may as well be
ninjas... right?) when I was little (think I still have a few of them around somewhere), the rest
is just developing an eye that can distinguish little details and then practice practice practice!
Keep at it long enough and you will be just as good if not better than I am now. You should
definitely give drawing another try even if you just doodle a few times a week, it adds up.
Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
(Of course, I'll have been practicing too so I'll still like be better and stuffz)

Tonnage update!
Cleaned him up a bit, colored his tongue and defined the
outline for what his hood will look like.
Comments welcome.
-
**Decided to move him over here and consolidate so there aren't so many threads to keep track of... if anyone is keeping track that is lol.**
I now have two, this New Art, Wips & Stuffz thread you're reading now and the Thankyou Artz thread over here.
Something about that Iron Jaw (sounds like the title of a kung fu theater episode lol)
keeps bringing me back to it... it's such a cool concept I wish I'd thought of it.
Spent a bit more time on this one (1 hour 45 min currently) & was
looking at my other thumbnail sketch as I drew this. Put the
facial scars in this time but haven't decided which way
the hood will go yet. The flash brightened this
quite a bit it's actually a darker green.

Quote:Fixed*She's pretty, but, uh, where's her left arm?
When an appendage is *hidden* by the body, it's good to show at least part of it, otherwise, the subject looks like an amputee.
A left hand would suffice. Ideally, an elbow as well.
I agree though, it would be nice to see some part of her arm... though in all
fairness she would still be hot as an amputee.

Quote:The shadows look tighter and the lizard is covered.thank you very much for the vote of confidence! I think I still got a way's to go though, I've only been at this coloring thing a few months so I can spare some time to make sure that when I put my folio together it will be jaw dropping!
also fixed some of the snafu's from the critiques I agreed with on this Piece.
*Lizards back no gap
*Some darker shadows on the ground under Lizard head.
Looks good ES.
Yeah don't worry bout the lips it could just be her lipstick... I hear the fall colors
this year are the perenial favorites, -Ruby"Blood of my Enemies"Red- and
-Dusty"Dino-slaying"Peach- and new this season... Bone!
(yeah I know it's late and I'm sleep deprived... the jokes only go downhill from here)
I did notice one other small coloring detail (it's small though most people probably
wouldn't notice it) if you want me to nitpick.
-
Yeah they're a bit exaggerated but I kinda like the eyes this way.
So I wanted to put some gold for the eyes and wreath and such but all I could find is one of those
pens with the ink that sparkles (which I found out after the fact lol) so anyway here is an update of how
it's looking now. I put some silver in the hair as well.

Happy B-Day, Best Wishes, Yadda Yadda Yadda... Now go BURN SOMETHING! -
Quote:Oh I wouldn't say my tools are crude... just specialized.I'm very impressed... Even more so since you're working with such crude tools.
The Microsoft optical trackballs I use in my computer room, for gaming they're awesome, for Photoshop work... not so much lol.
Quote:*hugs the tablet monitor* Mine!
But! Even when using the pen, the anchor and curve tools are wonderful things for making lines btw
Anchor and Curve... ok I'll tinker with those a bit later thanks. PS has a bazillion options I've never tried I just have 4-5 tools I know how to use good but I occasionally branch out and try new things.

Bah that plain flat skintone doesn't go well with the other detailed stuff, it was bugging the heck outta me so......
I went ahead and tried to give it some contrast, shadows, highlights etc. etc. to make it blend in more.
I also touched up they eye slots so they don't look like blank skin so much and put the cheekbone
back in (because I can, nyah nyah) but lighter this time.
(F.Y.I. fine control of your lines in photoshop is a beyotch without a drawing tablet... or a mouse for that matter...
I just used my trackball >0.o< wish I could just draw on the screen with my pen... anyone got one of these laying
around that they want to send me?)
Ok how's it look now?
-
Okay following up with more peoples suggestions (thank you everyone for
all the feedback and suggestions) I gave her a basic pink-ish skin tone in photoshop.
-
Whatchoo talkin' bout Juggy? My skinny neck issue? Mah neck is like huge and stuff...
it makes yo avatar look teh puny an... oh wait you mean the drawing?.. uh yeah guess
it does look better like this, Thanks Juggertha... ahem.
Quote:Looks very nice. The only comment I have is that she looks eyeless... maybe if you added some skin tone to make it more obvious that the eye areas are part of the mask. Not sure if they are part of the mask or if they are the "eye plug" or metal plates
that cover the eyes in the costume generator... don't have any character reference of what LJ officially
looks like since this was kind of a surprise. I also don't have any skintone markers just a handful of
highlighters and sharpies (sad I know lol) but I'll see what I can some up with.
-
No worse than the ones in City of Her....oh look cookies!
-
Quote:Personally I wouldn't mind at all and I'd love to see what you come upChris would you mind if I popped this in photoshop and did some adjustments?
with BW (used to sit with other artists all the time and every 15 minutes rotate our sketch pads back
and forth to see what other people could do with your work and vice versa... ahh the good old days)
but it being art I've "gifted" already to someone else makes it a little weird. PM (or Skype) me and we'll
discuss it that way until I can at least ask/get permission.
That cool?

Some one asks how many pets you have and you reply "that depends... do vet pets count?"
Someone asks if you're a pet lover and you reply with anything remotely resembling... "Well when I'm on my controller... "
Your roommate tells you his date last week was a total freakshow and you say, "Bet the XP was awesome though, right?
-
Ok sure my rep only seems to ever show one green dot under my avatar no matter how many people give me +rep so lets see if this does anything lol.
