  1. Worst recommendation ever, Sam. Ha.
  2. Is there any news about us being given server unlocks? I want to take screencaps of my characters, but many are locked after a brief Premium dalliance last year.

I petitioned to Support, and they just said they were looking to give something back to the players, which I assume meant the currently-running double XP. I responded asking if they could please unlock one particular character, and they said "not at this time."

    bucket list

I got my Water/Mental blaster to 50 (dinged solo one morning... kinda sad)... Now I'd just like to get some more Incarnate stuff for him.

Other than that, I can't find the motivation to sink time into new characters. I had a good idea for a Titan Weapons character, who I played to 20, but then they shut off the double XP...

I don't know what story content I want to do. I always liked the Maria Jenkins AV missions, but they're not the same post-Praetorian influence (they're better, but they're not the missions I was playing in Issue 6, ya know?).

Unfortunately, Infinity has been really dead during my playtimes, so I don't know if I'll accomplish much of anything.
  4. With the newest news, I think I'll at least give Champions Online and/or DCUO one more chance.

I had an account for the first month of both games, at which point I then retreated back to Paragon. I remember liking DCUO more (until it came to actually teaming, at least), and even had a max-level character (I believe it was only level 30 back then), but that was a loooong time ago, and I realize that both games will likely be unrecognizable to me.

Does anyone have pitches for either? Also, sites on where to begin? I have to check my retail boxes, but I imagine that simply downloading the game clients will be the most efficient at this juncture, then waiting out all of the patches for a day...

    Loregasm

Well that was a fun, albeit somewhat depressing, way to spend three hours.

    Thanks for doing that, guys.
  6. Wow. I'd have played the hell out of Wind Control.
  7. I thought it was permanent...

I spent all weekend playing Breath of Fire II (for the SNES, awww yeaaahhhh). Not the most efficient usage of limited DXP time!
  8. I regret letting my altitis get the best of me. I've played for something like 7/8ths of the game's life since launch, so it was natural that I would eventually make new characters. But SO MANY? Unnecessary, especially when we were limited to 12 (or was it 10?) server slots?

    RIP (deleted):
    1. John Leviathan (50, Spine/Invuln Scrapper; victim of server space limitations)
    2. Molecule Misfit (my first 50, Energy/Ice Blaster remade as Energy/Energy)
    3. Magician (my first character, second 50, an Ice/Fire Blaster I remade as a Fire/Storm Controller)
    4. Aeon Avenger (50 Peacebringer; victim of server space limitations)

I envied people who really did everything in the game with their one character. Having like 20 50's meant that my attention was always divided amongst them.

As is, I have 4 pages of characters on my home server, plus nearly one full page of characters on every other (US) server. Some were never played beyond the tutorial - Many times I'd come up with a character concept in my head and run home and create the character, whether I intended to ever play it or not. I think I'll miss that the most - I thought of one the other day, but I was like, "What's the point?" - Avalanche Cascade (a phrase in a Josh Ritter song) died before he was born.

Still, despite my altitis regret... There are still regrets of characters I never got to play. I regret not having a Regen character when it was godly. I regret not playing a /devices blaster past 10. I regret not playing Tankers early enough to really get a good experience with herding (even if I did have the experience with my Invuln scrapper, I still died some ). I regret not playing a Dominator past 23. I regret having never played a Mind Controller past 10.

I don't know if regret is the word, but I'm incredibly sad over not being able to play with many of the players that were tantamount in early years in the game.

    1. ProcessdMeatMan - RL friend who still pops in once in a blue moon, but far too rare.
    2. Crowd Pleaser - RL friend who gave up on the game in favor of Star Wars.
    3. KnightShayd - A Facebook friend who left the game a while back.
    4. Status Crow - Made Villain-side way more interesting than it ever would have been without him.
    5. Bolt Crank & Operator 47 - The real life couple who founded the only SG I ever became more than cursorily affiliated with. I also regret being kind of a jerk to Op over something dumb - I was a lot younger then.

Speaking of that SG, I regret not being closer with them over the past two years or so. I got put off a time or two by something stupid, so I kind of unintentionally closed myself off, and I just wasn't as friendly as I could have been.

    6. Tjin, Malice, Strongstar, House Call, Soph and Shu (still Facebook and/or Fantasy Football friends, at least), Kitty Grade, Impenetrable, Sanctuary Lost and m0ley (my two emo music buddies!), Sledge Riprock, Carrie - All players who I got to really know over the years. I regret not having an outside-of-the-game method of communicating with them (where applicable), but I mostly miss being able to play the game with them.

I'll regret not being able to Incarnate-out my most recent 50 (who I regret hitting 50 on yesterday while solo - I just got too caught up killing mobs in an outdoor mission and it snuck up on me!). There's probably still time, but the teams aren't there on Infinity. A lot of people seem to have jumped ship, and it was kind of a slow place during the week before that.

I'll regret not being able to unlock some of my 50s - They got locked during one of my brief stints of going premium, and for some reason I wasn't provided enough unlock tokens for all of my characters - I don't really know how that is determined.

As is, I can't get on my favorite villain to take screen caps, nor finish IO'ing him out (it had been a LOOOOONG time since I had played him). Hell, I'd buy an unlock token if I could...

I regret not ever posting enough to join the elusive Forum Cartel!

And I have to include it, because my wife would call me out if I didn't - I regret spending SO MUCH TIME in-game early on. College took about two years longer than it should have because I would spend entire nights in-game, and be too tired to go to class in the morning. That led to bad grades, which led to dropped classes and wasted money. I also had way too many fast food meals (which led to some weight gain that I'm still working to remedy) in front of the computer through the first five years of the game or so. I should have prioritized things better when I was younger.
  9. Could you put me down as tentative? I love the SSAs and would like to do them in a team rather than solo, but that's Saturday night, and plans tend to crop up unexpectedly for me to commit to anything.

It would likely be with my newly minted 50 blaster, Last Leviathan.
  10. Kieron Gillen also commented on CoH's shutdown. I don't spend much time on Twitter, and barely understand it, but when someone told me it was the #1 trend or something during the rally, I had to go look and see wth that meant.

His was one of the results I saw. I think I retweeted it, but like I said, I don't really understand Twitter, or spend enough time with it to learn. Anyway, I'm ChrisEmoses on there if you're really interested.

And if you don't know who he is, he's a Marvel Comics writer. He came into my sphere based on the hilarious Journey Into Mystery comics - Young Loki is such a lovable scamp.

Also... Scott Kurtz didn't actually say anything negative about City of Heroes in that quote... He offers condolences and says it's time to move on. He doesn't support "the fight," or whatever, but he did support the game at one time (I believe he did some comic strips about it, right?). So I don't think he's deserving of the bit of venom in this thread.

I think I can confirm this. My VIP was set to end tomorrow, but now it doesn't say anything about that in my Account Management. It just says:

    Account Type:
    VIP
    Account Status:
    Playable

Whereas it used to say "VIP until" as far as I remember.

I guess I can actually confirm tomorrow or Wednesday.

I hope this is the case; if I dropped back to Premium, it would be harder to maintain regular play until doomsday.

    Where are you?

    Arlington, TX holllllllaaaaaa

I see two others really close by. Cool.
  13. Throwing snowballs and fighting Winter Lords were probably my favorite times in game.

I also loved when Siren's Call was crowded. And base raids with PUAD.
  14. The Secret World sounds really interesting, but no other MMO has taken root in my interests yet. I may just go back to being a full-time console gamer.

    Thanks Infinity

Very nice sentiments, Phil. I added you on Steam - For anyone else with Steam, that's probably a good way to keep in touch, if you so choose.

  16. I don't know what I'm going to do yet. I was trying to figure it out earlier with a thread in the City General forum, but that section is moving so fast, it was quickly buried to the third page.

I'm having difficulties deciding the best way to spend the remaining moments in-game. If any moments should be spent in game, that is. I was one week away from my VIP lapsing and me taking another break, but now that I know we're on a limited timeframe, a break seems irresponsible.

But... I played the game for the leveling, the loot, the XPzzzz... A lot of the players I really enjoyed teaming with regularly have moved on. I don't know what my motivation would be to continue logging on nigh-daily.

I've logged on a number of times today. I did an ITF, but other than that, I've just been taking screenshots of my characters. I don't know what else to do.

Yeah, I heard that date afterwards. Everything at that early juncture said "the end of 2012."

    So it got worse.
  18. Magician - Was my very first character, an Ice/Fire blaster who I abandoned in the 30s somewhere. I picked him back up eventually, after gaining more experience in the game, got him to 50, then deleted and re-rolled as a Fire/Storm Controller, now also 50.

Molecule Misfit - My first 50. Energy/Ice Blaster. I always hated the /Ice, so he was eventually re-rolled as an Energy/Energy. Also 50.

John Leviathan - 50 Spine/Invuln. Another victim of deletion, but no remaking this time. A victim or server space capped at 12.

Ugh, I have too many and don't have the time now. We'll just go with a listing off the top of my head:

    Ghost Shiva
    Power Glove
    Phaezon
    Ace Gambit
    Babel
    Summit
    Testosterone
    Monkey Wrench
    Project HERO
    Cosmonaut
    Gaia Guardian
    Fear Noir
    Icarus Isotope
    Ifrit Isotope
    Last Leviathan
    Aeon Blade
    Mercury Avenger
    Molecule Marvel
    Silent Prophet

And many other non-50s. I'll miss them all.
  19. CuppaJo was always so great. Very considerate of him to say something.
  20. ChrisMoses

    To all of you...

I'm wishing good luck to you and everyone else at Paragon Studios, Zwill. Thanks for all the memories.
  21. Great idea; I wish I had done that more over the years.

    Bookmarked.
  22. I don't know the answer. I had never played an MMO before, City of Heroes was the first. I immediately loved it, and thought, "Wow, what have I been missing out on? I have to play all games in this genre!"

A World of Warcraft, Champions Online, Rift, DC Universe Online, and Guild Wars later, I realize that I don't like MMOs. They're just awful.

But I love City of Heroes. It was truly a unique experience that tapped into 'lil ChrisMoses' brain and allowed him to pull a hero out of it.

    It's quite a thing.

I keep wondering if there isn't something we can do. I joked around with a friend of mine about "Kickstarter!" though I know that's not realistic, but isn't there something that can be done? Petitioning a corporation probably won't work, but I keep thinking there has to be some way for us to vote with our money. Just can't imagine what it might be.
I've heard of a service (specifically from Penny Arcade, when Tycho/Jerry bought Gabe/Mike a print of his World of Warcraft character) that designs artwork based on MMO characters. Does anyone have anymore information of that?
