Quote:You mean other than just ripping it off from the title of a John Cusack comedy? If you're going to call yourself "Hot Tub Time Machine" then I really, really want to see a bio that explains the name!

Quote:Oops, I misread Alpha Wolf's post. None of the individual enhancements were on sale this morning when I updated my spreadsheet. You doc references full set sales, which we already knew about. Are the ones he mentioned discounted to 50% singly?
If so, I will definitely be buying at least a dozen procs tonight. At 25%...maybe I'll pick up 3 or 4, but at least a few. Thanks Alpha Wolf! I can actually see a reason for discounting the entire set more than the individuals. I would prefer the 50/33 and 25/15 points to 50/25 and a potential 25/10 though

EDIT: Misread Alpha Wolf's post. The individual enhancements, which were not on sale this morning, are now on sale for 25% off.

Quote:It can't be any worse than stabbing with a rocket-powered hammer, a chunk of concrete on the end of a pipe or a demonic meat axe. And if the stabbing animation is really your concern, I have a solution for that:Animations are the trouble. You can't stab with a scythe so it's an ill fit for Titan Weapons...

EDIT: ... Yeah, what Kyriani said. >_> -
Given the devs' aesthetic tastes, I'm guessing they'll be more like a Borg-style "assimilate other species" creatures which use more organic tech implants.
Of course, now that you said that, I'm sure some will be green with horns and underbites. -
Quote:My last full time job was building and repairing computer systems for a company that offered forensic video analysis software. The kind of stuff that is actually possible is pretty impressive, as long as you don't expect "magic green lines" to do the work for you.[Science]
The notion of taking a grainy, low resolution photo and generating an enhanced version of that which has more detail is, for the most part, science fiction. However, the notion of taking a grainy, low resolution video and generating an enhanced version of it which appears to contain far more detail than the video appeared to take is actually not impossible in at least some cases. The concept existed twenty years ago and I studied it myself in college at one point (specifically, jitter induced subpixel detail). However, the technology to do it hasn't really existed until relatively recently. Today, the set of techniques are usually referred to as super resolution technology.

Quote:You know they eat dogs in a lot of Asian countries, right? It might. What if he was planning on blowing up a busload of puppies?
I remember a time in college, we had a discussion about our favorite foods for some reason and this Chinese girl started talking about how her favorite food was "baked black dog," and everybody else was all...

Correct. They can add or remove individual listings from the market at will, but the devs cannot change the functionality of the market in any meaningful way.

David Nakayama brought up the idea of revamping a bunch of old costume parts by replacing their textures with higher resolution versions (while reusing the same geometry) a while back, but for better or worse, the players decided they'd rather have both the "new" and "legacy" options than just the new options. As much as everyone involved liked the idea, it proved to require more development time to adjust the UI than was available at the time, and fell to the wayside.
I've not heard a peep about it since DN was moved over to Paragon's sister project.

Quote:I've been saying this since the first time it came up on beta back in early 2012. A scythe would look ridiculous as a Staff Fighting option; it doesn't function mechanically the way a staff does, which is to keep the weapon's center of gravity as close to the core of the shaft as possible.Yeah, a Scythe for Staff Fighting would look... really weird.
On the other hand, since Titan Weapons was (were? damn you Grammar Goblins!) first announced, I've been clamoring for a scythe option. It would work beautifully as a TW choice; heck, the only reason a scythe really works as a tool in the real world is because of momentum. It's a weapon that's built for broad, powerful swings, at a scale that's much more reasonable for a "normal guy" character to wield than any existing Titan Weapon options.
Quote:Titan Weapons maybe, but smacking people with the side of the blade or tripping people with a giant blade would look very silly, IMO. -
Quote:I was, in fact, referring specifically to player characters. As you point out, it's pretty much a staple in comics across the world to have THE BIG BAD capable of doing terrible things that no protagonist, alone or in groups, could manage... at least at first. In Western comics, this will usually be solved by a team-up of unlikely heroes and/or villains, a deus ex machina like Marvel's "Cosmic Powers" which flit from character to character, some Hail Mary I-hope-we-never-have-to-do-that-again play that just barely manages to work, or some combination thereof. It just seems that only in Japanese comic literature does a single protagonist grow to (and especially maintain) equal footing with the big bad, before raising his friends to a similar level and then having, as you said, "a bigger rock thrown at them the next time."Are you forgetting someone? Someone that you know... eats entire dimensions?
Hell, it's not like 'planet destroyer' is even unique to anime or anything.
But the power creep you're talking about happens just as much in western super hero comics... it's just that those authors will just make the character magically forget the abilities 5 minutes later most of the time (I don't follow any enough to point out any examples where they just keep getting more powerful, but I'm sure they exist). Anime/manga writers (that do that... most don't) just choose to throw a bigger rock at them the next time.
Of course, barring the Dragonball universe, I don't think I could name another one where characters have that level of power (with or without help).
And strangely, despite my former fondness for Dragonball Z, I was actually thinking about Guren Lagann... the climax of which involves the main character creating a super robot so large that the collateral damage of the final fight was literally galactic in nature. (He actually used an entire galaxy as a barrier against an attack.) Though to be fair, the latter 2/3 of Guren Lagann had me going, "WHAT IS THIS @#$%" at least once an episode.
That is, of course, all part of a particular sub-genre of anime, which I generally hear referred to online as "Fighting Forever" anime. Obviously, you and I and most people who actually watch anime know that not all anime features this, and that even within the "Fighting Forever" sub-genre, there are plenty of series which handle power creep at a much more reasonable pace than planet crushers like DBZ et al.
(Side note: I am hating Bleach so much right now.) -
Not exactly.
For starters, any anime where characters are strong enough to destroy an entire planet single-handedly won't mix with the CoX universe. So there's a power level limit somewhere in there.
And not to mention any adult-themed sub-categories, since this game is T-rated (though that obviously applies equally to Western art styles as well).
But hey, at least we get Hammerspace. *thumbs up* -

Quote:I can't really complain about the idea of a small discount for VIPs (not that I think it's needed), but putting things in the market that only VIPs can buy is a bad move. It tells people who can't or don't want to subscribe for whatever reason that the money they can spend isn't wanted.A small additional discount would be good, as well as things non-VIPs can't buy.
Now, if you wanted to switch that up to give VIP players an advance release of something--basically making it exclusive to VIPs for one or two months before opening it up to the Premium players--then I think you've got an argument. -
Quote:Yeesh. How long have you been sick? If it makes you feel any better I was almost killed a week ago. Tractor Trailer ran me off the road and totaled my car. I, to every ones amazement, am unscathed.
Glad to hear you're doing well, but sorry about the car.
(And no, knowing that you were in mortal danger doesn't really make me feel differently health-wise.)
I've only been ill since the middle of last week. My roommate got a sinus infection last weekend that went untreated and turned into bronchitis, and she's one of those people who doesn't cover their mouths when they cough.I convinced her to go to the doctor by informing her that a bronchial infection is just a step away from pneumonia.
So the day after she goes to the doctor, *I* started getting sick. So I hit up my doctor the very next day and told him about my roommate's illness, but by that point I was so drained I had to come back home and go to bed. To my roommate's credit, though, she actually did a pretty good job of taking care of me while I was incapacitated, including paying for my antibiotics. (Whether that was due to her genuinely caring about me or feeling guilty for getting me so friggin' sick remains a mystery.)
I'm cautiously optimistic that I'll be returning to work tomorrow... not that I'm looking forward to being on my feet for 7 straight hours as I'm on the tail end of this bug.
