    Hey, that's my mission!

It's changed quite a bit since that recording on the initial publish (now there are NINE different kinds of devils, instead of just the one), but it's cool to see something I made being appreciated.
  2. LOL @ Dug

I don't necessarily find that it's "tedious" as a badge hunter... just unnecessary. I think that the anniversary badges should be made global.

One of my favorite characters was made June 1st, 2005 -- the day after the 1st anniversary badge stopped dropping. I'm not trying to get a ton of badges on him the same way I do on my main characters, but it'd be nice if he had the badge as well.

Anyway, when we have an event badge given out just for logging in, I'll log every character on my home server on and ignore the others (unless I'll be playing them in the course of normal gaming anyway, of course).

Stalkers assassinate people...so do Marines..or SEALS, SWAT if they have to. Punisher kills peolpe all the time. Sometimes they don't even know he's on to them. He just blows the building up.

    [/ QUOTE ]
None of that makes an assassination any more heroic. I find it harder to justify a Stalker as heroic than I do a Necromancer.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Heck, I both my main hero and villain are Katana/SR. I always imagined they were using the swords' edges to dismantle weaponry and armor on human targets, then use the flat of the blade to incapacitate their opponents. (But for non-human targets like ghosts, demons and other monsters, it's slice & dice city!)

For my Stalker's Assassin Strike in particular, I figure he's just whacking the opponent in the back of the head very quickly.

But then again, he's a pretty okay guy for a villain; very honor-bound, but extremely self-involved. Mostly, he says he's "evil" because he loathes his good counterpart. I'm actually planning to make him a Hero eventually, so the psychotic Brute version can be the big bad of the story.

    I Wish [Forum]

I wish I understood what "had of done" means...

I wish Willpower had been available at launch, because I don't want to reroll my main character to get rid of Super Reflexes.

But when you play an Anti-Hero and play it as a straight hero you break Verisimilitude.

    And then what happens?

Someone roleplaying as Chuck Norris roundhouse kicks you in the head.

    Twice if you double-post.

I honestly cannot see a way for a Zombie Mastermind to be a true hero and hailed as such by the community (Level 50: Hero of the City)

    [/ QUOTE ]
Again, the problem here is that you're assuming that they care what the community thinks. As long as they're doing what they feel is right and not doing physical harm to the innocent, many heroes out there could care less about what people think about them.

Sure, people have already made mention of The Punisher. How about other, more widely-known characters... like Wolverine? You think he gives a crap what the purse-snatching victim thinks of his choice to impale her assailant with 12" metal spikes protruding from his fist? In his mind, he saw a helpless woman being mugged and made sure the scumbag wouldn't do it again.

Granted, your opinion is yours, and I'm not trying to change it. I'm sure you could excellently RP as someone who hates having to work with a Necro MM on a team.

But at the same time, do you really think they, who command legions of the damned, give a rat's patoot what you think about them?
  7. [ QUOTE ]
[Z]ombies would likely do most of our menial labor. From digging ditches to fetching water and building materials.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Since you and I have already found we share a taste in music, how about movies? Given the subject, I recommend Fido.

    (Also, trailer for Fido)
  8. My zombie MM is a resurrected corpse himself and only wants vengeance on the person who... did certain unspeakable acts to his body after death. His whole background revolves around him getting together some of his buddies to return the favor.

Now granted, he's not really hero material. But couldn't a Necromancy Mastermind who WAS a zombie leading other like-minded zombies feasibly be a hero?

Mad World, by Gary Jules. At least, I think it fits for a living ghost.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hmm, maybe, depends on the pacing.

I was thinking Real Life's "Send Me An Angel" or some remix thereof for a more action-based video. The music has that kind of ghostly quality to it, but it's a little faster.

Oooooh, also a damn good choice. I love that song.
  10. Speaking of Rush, I just got another idea for Sister Psyche...

You mean the Gary Jules cover of Mad World by Tears for Fears... >.> Right? =-3

    [/ QUOTE ]
Yes. That. Sorry. (I actually LIKE Tears for Fears, too! They're no Duran Duran or Rush, though.)

Gary's version still fits better for Nummie. Slower and sadder.

I could certainly understand an argument for the original, though.

  13. For Positron, I suggest Information High, from Macross Plus.

It has kind of a dark opening that I think fits for someone who is afraid losing control of his powers, then quickly moves on to a kick-[censored] techno beat.

Best song I can think of for Sister Psyche is Richard Cheese's cover of Britney Spears' "Crazy." But it's NSFW, so I'm not posting it. I think his slower lounge version fits the character better... just not the lyrics he added.
  14. I misread the thread title as "Amy Jonsson Can Turn You On?"

... And then I remembered Amy Jo Johnson (the original Pink Ranger from the Power Rangers) from my teenage days.
  15. QR, my two cents:

Adding a ranged power to the melee sets: good.

Adding ridiculously over-powered ranged powers to the melee sets: bad.

I actually LIKE that the melee mobs can hit fliers and kiters now. I do NOT like that a group of 3-4 melee mobs can get lucky and take out a squishy. And given the fact that my non-min/maxed SR Scrapper takes on groups of 5 or more at a time... between the 3 guys I'm fighting in melee range and their buddies pegging me with heavy ranged attacks, even I drop (or at least have to rest) after every battle.

(Obviously, dropping a few 100M on IOs would solve some of those problems, but I don't require them for any regular content...)
  16. I think we need more non-melee sets added (though I agree that Staves/Spears would probably be the best melee set to add next). And that's coming from someone who almost exclusively plays Scrappers, Stalkers and Brutes.

I'd say within the next two powerset additions, we need at least two more Mastermind primaries. Supposedly "Demon Summoning" is on the books for Issue 16, unless Posi was joking. I think that the best suggestion I've heard has been the "Animal Control" set, but since this is red-side and we've already got a light focus on the subject, I propose...

Spiders. A Spider Mastermind will be able to summon large spiders to assist them, with the final pet being an Arachnoid. Player attacks will deal mainly toxic damage, and will focus on acid sprays. One power will be a melee range health-draining attack, ala Dark Melee's Siphon Life.

There could also be a spider-themed secondary powerset, which would combine debuff elements from the Poison set with a Web Grenade-style power, a web-themed Tar Patch/Quicksand AOE slow power, "Cocoon Defense" to buff minions and teammates. The final power in the set would be "Web Snare," a single-target long duration Mag 3 hold; anything ensnared in the web would receive double damage from any attacks dealing Toxic damage.

I'm assuming that we're actually getting Dual Pistols sometime in the foreseeable future, which is awesome, because my next suggestion was going to be a new ranged attack set for Blasters and Corrupters. (I think there need to be some pistol whip and/or melee range pistol attacks to make this a Dominator powerset as well!)

My final suggestion, and another category which has long been ignored as new powersets have been added, is for a new Control set. Specifically, we need a powerset to fill a void in Origin selection. The current Control sets work fine for Magic, Mutant, and Science Origins, and everyone can work out a story for a Natural Origin with enough effort (alien from a planet of fire dancers, perhaps?)... but what about Tech or normal human Controllers? And thus, I present to you:

Device Control. The Device Control set revolves around using technology to stun, hold, immobilize, or otherwise incapacitate an opponent. It focuses more on having an array of different abilities, rather than stacking one type of mez over and over. It uses mostly existing animations, such as the Malta Taser (either with greater mez magnitude or duration due to being a melee power), Web Grenades, Sleeping Gas, etc., with the summoned pet being a floating Malta gun turret. New powers would include a "Neural Disruptor," which creates a sonic disturbance that confuses enemies within a radius and causes them to attack each others, and the dreaded "Arc Taser," which chain-stuns a group of enemies.

I would also like to thank you for all your help Hyper. I ran the Memtest, no errors found. I also set CoreTemp to keep a log, my Core Temperatures never go above 54.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I think it's your video card. Check to make sure: a) it HAS a fan on it, and b) the fan is unobstructed and spinning. I had a video card die last summer because a small ball of dust and pet hair got caught in the fan and burnt out the motor, and was experiencing symptoms very much like your system locks and random reboots.

Depending on where your computer is located--e.g., under a desk or wedged in a corner--it might not be getting enough air flow. If possible, try taking the side panel off and see if that helps. If there's a lot of dust, purchase a can of compressed air from your local department store, take the system out onto your porch, and give it a good air dusting. Follow the directions on the can. Spraying compressed air upside down can and will damage electronic components and human skin alike.

If there's not much dust but running without the side panel does help, you should look into purchasing additional cooling fans for the system, or at the very least trying to increase the amount of airflow the PC gets by moving it out into the open.

In Chad-related news, I exchanged the new RAM this afternoon for a pair that matched my old RAM and ran Memtest. It works perfectly (so far). I'll report back if I encounter anymore frequent crashing.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
Also, if you successfully test both sets without error, you're likely to have a bad DIMM slot or controller.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Ugh, I hope not. The slots seem okay, because Memtest passed for every combination of slots I tested as long as the two pairs weren't both in at the same time. But it could still be a bad controller, which would mean replacing the mobo.

I'm hoping the two pairs (same brand, different latencies) were just incompatible for some reason. The store I got them at just got the type I was using originally AND they're on sale this week, so I'm going to exchange them out. I pulled the new pair out and am running on the original 2GB, and haven't crashed all night.

    Thanks for the suggestions, Hyper.

    Your temps look fine.
Question, how current are your motherboard/driver controller drivers?
If the answer to the above is "fairly current", and the Memtest comes back fine, it's probably something in-game. (See "You Are S.O.L. until they patch).

    [/ QUOTE ]
Did a complete reformat three weeks ago with all the latest drivers from the Intel website, and patched to the latest BIOS release this weekend after I ordered the new hardware (with no issues between then and the processor swap yesterday).

HOWEVER, I ran into 4 errors on the first pass of memtest and 1 the second pass (ran it again to be sure)... so it very well could be related to the new RAM.

Later on, I'll pull the sticks that were already in the system and run it again with just the new sticks so I can be sure it's them. If I get errors again, then I'll swap the slots and run Memtest to ensure that the motherboard isn't the issue. If I don't get errors, then I'll test again with just the old RAM... it doesn't happen often, but sometimes perfectly good RAM goes bad after a while.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
If I were you, I'd run a Memtest on the system. Also, pull out a copy of CoreTemp and see how warm your CPU is getting.

If you're crashing all of the sudden like this, I'd do this to make sure the new components aren't the culprits.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Core temp idles between 43 and 45 degrees Celcius, and runs between 50 and 55 while in the game. The highest I've seen it go has been 60 degrees while alt-tabbing between windows and opening multiple browser windows with CoH in the background. The processor is rated to get to 71 degrees Celcius before it starts throwing crashes. I also made sure to get a heatsink that was rated appropriately for the processor with high CFM airflow.

I'll try running the memtest while I'm out running errands this afternoon, but again, I haven't had any problems with anything other than City of Heroes.

EDIT: Now _Jets_ on the other hand sounds like he's got a definite overheating problem. I'm getting crashes to desktop; he's getting complete PC reboots.
  21. I upgraded to a Q6700 2.66GHz Core 2 Quad processor and added 2 GB of memory (for a total of 4GB) this afternoon, and as a result I'm now crashing left and right in the game.

The first time was just standing around in Atlas chatting with an old friend who is taking advantage of the reactivation weekend.

The second was while cycling characters to get everyone the "Jubilant" 5 year anniversary badge.

The third time (especially annoying) was while the updater was verifying the files after the second time.

After that, I had a good hour or so in the game with no crashes, then a sudden crash to desktop while trying to load into an MA test mission.

I know my new hardware upgrades are working fine, because I spent all afternoon playing other games which are more processor and graphics intensive than CoH with all the settings cranked to max and no problems to speak of. I'm running on Win XP (32 bit) SP2, and had zero problems at all with the 3.2GHz Pentium D I was using prior to today.
  22. I know there was an issue when they were working on Ouroboros that the player had a limit to the number of souveniers they could have at one time (it used to be 100, bumped up for Issue 11 but not made infinite).

I'm assuming the local text file is their solution to this problem when someone could potentially run thousands of MA arcs over their gaming career.

I'm not sure if the purge is working as intended or not--I haven't seen any documentation on this either. I just know the file exists in the CoH install directory and is named something along the lines of "architect_souveniers.txt" (I'm at work right now and am not able to verify this exactly).
  23. Mission Architect souveniers are saved in a local text file that either purges itself over time or else limits the maximum number of souveniers you can have at one time (I'm not sure which).
