Quote:Not exactly, but close. It wasn't an MMO, it was mainly a single-player Real Time Strategy (RTS) game that supported online multiplayer; the original game I think only supported 1 on 1 matches, the second up to 4 people, and I think the third game supported 16 (I never played that one, so I don't know for sure). You forgot to mention one of the biggest contributors to WoW's success. It had a 10 year head start over City of Heroes.
Yes, World of Warcraft as a title did not exists before CoH, but it was already a successful MMO early on and when it was 'Warcraft'. Then it got a major overhaul and was re-released as 'World of Warcraft'.
Subscribers to 'Warcraft' naturally subbed to WoW.
And there was no "subscription" for the original Warcraft games; you just went to the store and bought the game box, then you could play it as much as you want. If you wanted to play online, someone would host a game, using their machine as a sever.
Also, don't forget StarCraft, the space version of Warcraft that was one of the first to hint how popular online gaming would become in the next few years.
Edit: Guess I'm a little late to this party. Plus, as Westley mentioned above, I forgot Diablo, another very popular multiplayer (but non-MMO) game from Blizzard. -
Quote:Well, the shield hand is curved a little funny (as if it's holding a blade pointed straight down). If they angle the hand so it's resting in a more natural position, it'd be perfect. I like running around with my shield arm pointed back. They're also working on the positioning of dual pistols, shield with no weapon, and some other animations. It's pretty nice to hear that, considering they don't really HAVE to do anything for pistols, and shield is okay how it is. It's nice to hear though that they're putting forth extra effort to make it as good as it can be.
Though the whole thing looks pretty awesome when I pull out the Nemesis Staff, too... it almost looks like I'm holding a spear. -
Have you shrunk the size of the window? The power columns adjust automatically, so if you stretch it back out by dragging the borders, they should expand when the window gets larger.
If it's a text issue, you can change the font size. Provided you're on the latest release, go to the Options menu and select "Configuration."
The very first tab will be "Enhancements & View," and it shows the size of your text. Default for "Info Tab Text" seems to be 8, and "Status/Powers" seems to be 8.25. You can set these to larger if you like. -
Let me rephrase then: I wasn't trying to be rude. I still don't see that as being particularly rude, but I'm not exactly known for being tactful. I tend to say what's on my mind, and sometimes I get called out... as is apparently happening now.
(And yes, I DID have steak for dinner, specifically because of this thread.)

Pffft. BABs already owns all the internets. You can't give him what's already his.

Quote:You know they probably won't work with trenchcoats, but since everything else on that list works with the existing tails, I'd remain hopeful. Also also also! If you do add animated tails, please don't make it count as a 'cape' object and make them not work with trench coats, capes, veils or wings! Please?
Well, at the least, remain as hopeful as you currently are that they'll add moving tails eventually. -
Don't you have to be logged into that specific account on the PlayNC website in order to purchase it though?

Of course, I believe the phrasing they used in the presentation is that players would be able to earn the Praetorian Clockwork pieces...

Quote:Fixed. >_>I know "Simpsons did it" is the best argument of the 21st century...
(Also, there are several Japanese companies, or positions in large companies, whose sole business practice is to decide the one thing that made a competitor's product successful and add that to every product they sell whether it's applicable or not. The Japanese are crazy [awesome], man.)

Yes. It's the third rule.
The first two rules are YOU DO NOT TALK ABOUT MAKING COSTUME THREADS AFTER A BOOSTER IS RELEASED! -
You can always ask. It's always better to ask than to assume.
-
You can't dress up ANY MM pets to date. It's something they'd like to add, but it's going to take a lot of effort and is unlikely to happen until sometime after Going Rogue is released (if it ever becomes possible at all).
As to being unslottable, it's effectively a temporary power just like the powers from the Cyborg and Magic Boosters, all of which are unslottable. And as to being unusable at the same time as Super Speed or Super Jump, it would make those powers overpowered, in the sense that no one would ever need to slot enhancements in them for anything other than endurance reduction. It is currently balanced exactly how the developers want it.
On the other hand, Ninja Run does stack with Sprint, Swift, Hurdle, any number of defense powers that give you a run speed increase, and all other run speed and jump increasing powers and buffs. It's pretty darn fast for a character with Super Reflexes, and is in fact easily boosted over the flight speed cap as many others have said in this thread previously. -
Quote:Largely because you didn't bother to read information that was already available on the forums. Granted, it's not on the front page anymore, but if you really care as much as you say about the status of the game, you should really try to read up about the features they've got planned.ok great, vigilante/rogue is basicaly what i asked, i dont see why i needed to see 20 posts of how visual effects will distrube you and how bad a open world would be.
but the game will arleady be open world in GR so..what was the point of all that flaming besides my grammer?
Check this thread for starters:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=196483
There are also other threads around that might have a tidbit or two more info as well. -
Quote:Known issue. BABs made a characteristically sarcastic comment about it in another thread.I don't know if it's directly related to the Ninja Booster, but when I was cycling through the Shoulder options, I noticed that on female characters the Sinister Should plates are displaced about a foot behind the character. They still appear to move and animate properly, they just have an additional offset that causes them to be detached. Additionally, one of them appears to be higher than the other.

Find better teammates.
I used to get annoyed with all the knockback since my ex-girlfriend plays an Energy/Energy Blaster pretty much exclusively, while I'm usually on my Katana/SR Scrapper.
But over time, we both became better players. She would focus her knockback attacks on plowing enemies into the wall or keeping the more dangerous critters away from us, and I learned the benefit of "/follow" to make sure I'm always on top of the dude who needs punchin' the most.
That said, if you're on a team with a Tank and a Controller, you might want to wait until the Tank has aggro and the 'Troller's hit them with an AOE Hold or Immobilize. It's all part of the learning experience. -

Quote:No. No Champions does NOT have a million players.130,000?Champions Online maybe don't have a millions players but they sure have a similar number, and many people came from CoX, maybe alot have come back but the number is smaller thats for sure.
Seriously, you're about one more horribly misinformed and my-opinion-is-fact post from jumping in my ignore box. -
Quote:So basically, this is all about YOU not wanting to shell out $30 bucks for Going Rogue, then?first of all, open world is for the pve not the pvp.
villains won't be able to dual you or even talk with you.
and game effects to annoy you?dude..the game don't have many subs, you won't see many battles on your way, besides, you have a real problem if it will distrub you, i mean....its a little bit extreme.
That's fine, but not only will your Heroes not be able to visit the Rogue Isles and your Villains unable to visit Paragon City... NONE of your characters will be able to visit Praetoria. -
You can make 12 characters per server for no additional charge, and up to 36 per server for a fairly reasonable cost. Why would you NOT make alts?
-
Not to mention that everyone I know who plays Warcraft hates the whole duel challenge idea. Generally, some jackass will walk into town and challenge everybody (especially those weaker than him) to a duel until they accept, and will otherwise get in their way and impede their progress.
It's a form of trolling that I definitely don't want to see in City of Heroes. -
