  1. Dear Whomever Messed Up:

    Thank you.

    Sincerely,

    Us.

(and thanks, LH, for letting us know. Invisible Imp is placing teleporters as I type.)

    Official Costume Contest Page

You will find it in the last paragraph.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ah. Thank you for the link.

I suspect the problem is this:

their winning photo/screenshot entries no later than Friday, November 30, 2007.

Given that it seems to be primarily managed by Lighthouse, and his Photobucket account deep-sixed itself, I would imagine that the last week and some has been trying to figure out photo-hosting solutions for this (and other) situations. It is, after all, rather pointless to post a "Lookie here!!" and have "can't access the pictures" icons show up instead - as the last day or so of voting demonstrated.

That being said, I did note, and still do note, that I agree with you about a quick post indicating what, precisely, the hold up is. In that particular case, I rather think that they're doing much the same sort of thing that I've frequently done in the past - oh, look, my afternoon's free, I'll finish it all today! (... wait, where the hell did my afternoon go?!). Next thing you know, it's a month later and everybody's pissed.. :P

Now.. oh, look, my afternoon's free and I have a todo list to finish off today.. (yeah. Right).
  3. I'm not sure where the "no later than Nov 30th" quote came from. The only dates I'm seeing are the deadline to enter, and the date that says "we'll know who won on Nov 26th". If someone would like to find the exact quote for the "No later than November 30th" and link to it, I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd like to be reminded of the post.

There was a note on the voting page that says they can't announce who the winner, second and third place people were until they received email responses back from those folks, so it's remotely possible that they're having issues with getting email back from one of the main winners and aren't doing official announcements until they DO get that response.

That being said, being off by a week after having several unexpected things crop up (the problem with getting costume tokens out for example, and Lighthouse's Photobucket failure for another) is not entirely out of line. Deadlines do slip.

While I agree a note should be posted, I think that many people need to remember that patience, while not a server, is still a virtue, and perhaps begin to exercise some of both that, and a little bit of tolerance.

    Grats to the Diaper Decimater.

Give me a year, and I'll make you the Steel Canyon skyline cake. It'll probably take two for the marzipan FP figures. Baking is easy, it's clean decorating that I haven't quite gotten the hang of yet.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Clean Decorating. Fondant and airbrushing with food coloring. I think...

I think making a city skyline cake would just mean making sheets of cake, building it up and holding it together with icing, like a gingerbread house, and then putting fondant over the cake buildings, and airbrushing them with food coloring to make them look like sky scrapers. Then, could sculpt the FP out of fondant, without an armature...so they could be easily eaten......

    [/ QUOTE ]

Pretty much, yeah. I'm still back on flowers, ribbons and leaves, though, which is why I'd need a year.

Hopefully, I'll be able to afford (and have time for) the CIA prep classes at the cooking school I talk to regularly this summer. I'm really wanting to get into the pastry and decorating weekend intensives as well.

I know you have to use a specific kind of frosting (not icing, that's too thin) for holding sheets standing up. Beyond that, I haven't had time to really look into it.

The catch, of course, is that cakes don't mail well.

I'll second the motion to make friends lists non viewable by default, it's no one else's business who is friends with who unless said person offers that information.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Again.

Friends list IS non viewable by default.
  7. [ QUOTE ]

No, it is more likely that 75% won't care if their character info is displayed or not. (Had to bold character since the way some are reacting you'd think this site will display social security numbers or something).

    [/ QUOTE ]

It seems to me that an awful lot of people don't want their global information available.

Which is pretty easy, since nothing in Lighthouse's posts indicate global information would be available, just per-character information.

I'm still trying to figure out how having other people having basic character information can possibly be be damaging to the player.
  8. Dogface, your big Doom broke the board. Please fix. (Edit: Thank you, Lighthouse)

For all of those people complaining about invasion of privacy, I suddenly feel compelled to point out something obvious:

    These are fictional characters.

They have no social security numbers. They have no phone numbers. They have no ID to thieve, no lives to steal, no privacy to lose. They won't be associated with YOU in any way, shape or form.

They may be your avatars on a game world, but they are not you.

There is no reason for them to not be shown; they are, in fact, demonstrating your creativity and the creativity of the others of this game.

I am very glad that the "friends" are being blocked by default, not because of any concerns of privacy, but because I am not fond of riding the drama llama and I can see far too may stupid, hateful things being said and done as a result of the choices people make in who they play with and who they choose to keep an eye on.

But I ask you to please take a step back and ask yourself why you are so very concerned with the concept of privacy for fictional characters, when you, your very selves, are not being affected in any way, shape or form by this decision.
  9. In general, I like this idea. I'm not worried about spammers getting any more information than they already have - characters that don't log in for 50+ days get just as much mail spam as characters who log in daily, so I figure that's not going to change much, and I'm not getting /tells as often.

On the other hand, I am, like several other people, questioning WHY our friends lists are going up? Especially if they're hidden by default. I'm certainly not changing that (on any of my characters), I'm fairly positive Imp's not changing it, and I can be just about as certain that Kendaer's not, either - although both of them had the reaction of "Cool!" to the announcement otherwise. Frankly, I just can't see the reasoning behind this particular choice.

If at all possible, I'd like to hear the official design & development reasoning behind making the "friend's list" publishable. I understand the argued reason (above) of friend-of-a-friend could be my friend, but I also understand the multiple pitfalls, and if that's the actual reason, I'd like to be given the opportunity to write a counter argument.

Once Lighthouse has the "rest of the information," I look forward to finding out what all will actually be published - including such things as costumes, bios, etc; I'd also like to find out if we'll be given the opportunity to link to (or be provided with space for) extended biographies and other, more detailed information on our characters that the game doesn't have space for.
  10. Sortof (not precisely). Yes, the original 15 get it, and so does everyone after them - but it's not like the sign-on bonus is, in that it's not dependant on them remaining in the group. For each person under 15 the group drops, it loses 20,000 prestige from the sign-on bonus.

This grant is just a straight up, 20,000 per member grant. It doesn't disappear when any of your members, including the original 15, leave. Even if you get below 15 members, the grant won't go away. You only get rid of it by using it up (or disbanding the SG).

It's yours, all yours. Well, your SG's.

    (Edited for clarity)
  11. Right so, Zek's going to be the designated driver...

(usually, that's me - same problem with alcohol (nobody I've met wants to see what seizure medication and alcohol do in combination, me included)... but I'm not going).
  12. LadyK - If you ever need anything like that looked up, give me advance notice and a deadline, and I'll find the cooking science in my Cook's Illustrated online subscription. They've usually got fantastic explanations.

Would you like any of the following recipes:

    Turkey a la king
    Chicken piccata
    Chicken marsala
    Lemon pound cake
    Tangerine stir-fried beef
    Lemon bars
Spice cak.. no, you don't want that one, too many ingredients. Well, you might, but not to publish.

Also, would you like a basic fudge recipe typed up? I'm going to be making a couple of batches, so I'll have one on hand. Brownies, too.

Those are the ones I happen to have online at the moment. The rest haven't been scanned in yet.
  13. This is thought (*) to be fixed in I11.

(*) Again. And only thought. I make no claims about the truth of this thinking.
  14. It was a 5.6, but one of the reasons people are thinking it was so much bigger is because it was "only" 5 1/2 miles down - so pretty close to the surface, where there's more loose soil and rocks, and the vibrations will travel easier.

The 2001 Nisqually quake up here in Seattle was a 6.8, but it didn't *feel* that big, because it was 27 miles down. Did some serious damage in Seattle proper due to some aging buildings, and it messed up some of our more.. erm.. venerable (!!) roadways (venerable as in they should have been replaced about 20 years ago, but traffic is one of the political things we can't agree on up here, which is why they're STILL not replaced), but generally it felt like a large truck rolling by.

Glad to hear everyone's doing all right, and hope the aftershocks are less of a surprise to Jay.

By the way - Why am I the FPAARN? Go home. It's after working hours.

    They didn't get Azuria either.

...not sure how to feel about that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

They were chasing after her, but she lost them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, it's because she's secretly in league with whomever THEY are.

Once is accident, twice is coincidence, three times is conspiracy.

And however many times Azuria is responsible for is just plain failure on the part of the establishment to notice that they really need to replace her.
  16. Not speculating here. All I have to say is that whomever drew that - it's gorgeous.
  17. Hah. I'm in one of the pictures.

http://l2vault.ign.com/fms/Image.php?id=717 -- Talek is right behind me.

The Lineage II poster was gorgeous. The folks were very friendly. The area was extremely loud!

    Interesting meetup.

You know that's the same time he's giving a panel discussion, right?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yep. Thus the "with a little encouragement" part. He makes any noise what so ever about showing after his panel, and I'm sure that one or two of us might stick around to say hi, how are ya?

Like I said, no tix. Pity the unhip momma who found out about this too late to become geek hip.

    (Yes, that's a joke)
  19. Hey, Posi!

Don't forget to stop by the meet & greet Saturday Night, 6:30 - 7:30 pm at the Elephant & Castle. With a little encouragement, I'm sure it can last FAR past its scheduled time....

I'd bring cookies to the booth for y'all, but I haven't tickets to PAX itself.
  20. [ QUOTE ]

Lighthouse will be in attendance at both Comicon (San Diego) and PAX (Seattle) so rattle his cage or make suggestions on a place where you all can get together and talk about trowing tings.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not sure offhand where PAX is being stuffed this year (I can think of about five places to put it), but I'm betting the convention center.

(Checking the website gives me the clue that the Sheraton is across the street... that'd be the convention center.)

As far as places to gather - there's from boring like the Rock Bottom Brewery to more interesting, like the Owl 'n Thistle. I'm assuming that you don't want restaurants that are $30-$60 a plate, so it'd take me more than a few minutes to find appropriate places; I'd have to ask some friends.

But finding a place in Seattle is more than possible. Just let me know what the requirements are, and it'll get done.
