I wouldn't call this a made up problem.
2 of my global friends have cancelled their accounts due this.
Myself, I am yet to receive an invite to anything that is NOT a MA farm.
I have to rely on my few remaining global friends who still play, in the chance they are on at the same time as myself.
I used to make a lot of new friends doing PuG missions prior to i14. Since it's release, things have changed. While I don't mind farming, I am significantly enjoying the game a LOT less than I used to. I do love the potential of the AE, but I am NOT enjoying what Atlas Park has turned into.
[/ QUOTE ]
eh, play in Galaxy. or dont roll on freedumb.
Not to mention, I've found pugs are never worth the headaches they cause. -

[ QUOTE ]
Since there is no end of mission reward (except the bonus tickets), coupled with the aforementioned lack of Patrol XP use, there is less XP earned via AE missions. However, you get to chose how your drops are split between salvage, recipes and enhancements. I would say this is a fair tradeoff.
[/ QUOTE ]
Really? I don't seem to recall being able to gain 26 levels by running 5 missions before MA...
[/ QUOTE ]
Thats because you couldnt load an entire map with nothing but comm officers before the AE
Got nothing to do with average exp gain when you're stacking the map. :P -

There are a number of good points on both sides of the issue here.
I have to confess, I've farmed myself. I wanted to play with a friend of mine, and I ended up getting almost 17 levels in 45 minutes. (Level 3 to level 19)
What I found, later, was that when I hit level 20, I was unable to find a team to help me get my cape. Or I was unable to find a team to help me do regular missions. Hell, I'm unable to find a team to help me do AE non-farm missions.
I love the Architect. I see great things coming from the Architect. But it seems that the only people in /broadcast, the only people teaming, are teaming for farms. I'm forced to farm if I don't want to solo. And I suck at soloing.
My two copper pieces.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is why you form your own teams by PMing people and asking if they wanna team, or asking friends. looking in broadcast is like looking for a sex partner in an alley full of syphillis riddled nymphomaniacs. You might get what you want but at terrible cost. -
[ QUOTE ]
While I don't give a darn about farming, I still agree with removing them from Atlas and Talos; those two zones are too busy already. Steel seems fine to me; it's one of the few zones where the building FITS (skyscappers everywhere.)
I'd also like the Faultline one removed, but for different reasons: the AE building killed my Jacuzzi!
[/ QUOTE ]
I dont mind the AE being in atlas. Please dont ruin my beloved Galaxy city with farming. ;/ -
This is libelous accusations against an innocent fusion hero.

I'm Loving i14.
Being able to write arcs is a dream come true, and while yes, farm spam is bad on a couple servers, the majority it isnt, not to mention half the people mad about farms are just the usual whiners who pug by screaming in broadcast for teams rather than just forming their own. Not to mention market prices are way more accessible. Great work devs. -
what really annoys me is stuff like that gets yanked but theres farm mishes with 600+ votes that have existed for days

I should probably take this moment to talk about what the Mission Architect is not meant for. It is not meant for easy leveling or badging or farming. Those are things that we specifically wanted the Mission Architect NOT to do. This may be a disappointment to some, I know. The goal was to give creative minds an outlet to tell the stories they have in their heads. We didnt want the system clogged with Farm missions, so actually finding someones story that they lovingly crafted became more a chore than it was worth.
[/ QUOTE ] - Original Post
[ QUOTE ]
This Mission Architect primary purpose is for telling stories. We do not want people to spend days making a great story only to find it shuffled into a list of missions with titles like "Get your Rikti Monkey badge here", "10 badges in 5 minutes", "Down on the AV Farm", etc. etc.

The reason we need further guidance is precisely because that is not clear enough.
Let me try to be VERY clear and VERY simple:
Among the ways missions can be examined is how rewarding the mission is. There are THREE broad categories of mission with this regard:
1) Missions that require more effort to gain a certain reward
2) Missions that require less effort to gain a certain reward, BUT not so MUCH less as to run afoul of the rules.
3) Missions that run afoul of the rules.
What devs have NOT done is clearly defined the difference between Category #2, which is clearly fine, and Category #3, which is clearly not. The blurb you quoted does NOTHING to shed ANY light on this.
I can, if I want, create a very aesthetically pleasing story-based mission, which ALSO happens to be very rewarding. As far as I can see, from the devs mouths themselves, its not whether or not the mission has a story that breaks the rules - for example, the devs do NOT CARE if you make a lame and superficial mission, if that mission has poor rewards.
Missions with poor stories, as far as I know, do not break the rules and have not been removed - I know because I see so many on MA.
Missions with greater rewards than the devs like seem to be what the devs are going after. However, until they give use much more specific guidance, neither they nor anyone else can be sure where that line is drawn.
We need to be explicitly told. The only ones who would disagree are just the people who are RP snobs and don't like people playing this as a game in the first place.

You know, I have nothing personal against farmers.
But I find it absolutely hilarious when they act as though me typing out dialogue in mish like my toon is a real superhero trying to deal with fighting criminals is any less valid a playstyle than forgetting to actually fix dimensional tears in reality because obviously fighting the same swarm of council empire over and over is far more interesting. -

I'm almost sick of Hellions and Skulls at this point. Why doesn't anyone use low level stuff from red-side? Snakes, RIP cops, Mooks, etc.
[/ QUOTE ]
well, for one, I personally hate snakes. They have a bad tendency to be hard to solo for some AT's
Hellions on the other hand, tend to not be. hence why I use em in my lowbie Fusionette TF -

The system built around the MA I'm not so happy with. I feel like things I make are seen for about a day, then never seen again from people in-game. I tend to get 40-60 ratings the first day I post anything, and then 1 every few days or so after the rating average gets to 4 stars. It's discouraging.
[/ QUOTE ]
...man, I *wish* I had results like that. Only one of my arcs has had any play outside my global friends (see below), and that one has been stuck with no new plays in the past week. Nothing else I have has gotten any attention at all.
Dropping to 4 stars is definitely a death sentence for an arc, though, and for added fun there's absolutely nothing the creator can do to prevent it. The current rating system is utterly horrible.
[/ QUOTE ]
I wouldnt say its a death sentence.
More that its a death sentence unless you tirelessly self promote. -
Great for me, the ability to create something that other players enjoy is something of a dream come true.

i am reading the forums a lot lately and it is the same as always. we have a new issue and this is one that everyone can like no matter how you play. farmer, powerleveling, tfs, mission after mission, teaming, solo you name it MA has it and you can do it. but i see the same trend happeing. people cry because they cant control what other do or make them play how they like to play this game. some didnt like street hunters like i used to be so they nerfed the mob spawns on the streets because of cry babys. people complained bout certain missions because people used them for farms and powerleveling (drek and shadow hunter to of the most famous lol), nerf bat swings again. they complained said game wasnt made to be played the way farmers and plers were doing things and it interfered with what they were doing. let me say this, any good game will be made in a way so player can take it were developers never dreamed. So devs gave us MA, Mission Architect and said now it is like burger king, make it your way. and here we go again crying because your friend loves it and you dont. you like regular game play. but you cant just do your thing you have to try and mess it up for others. Devs!! balls in your court will you listen to the powerhunger wanna control the game players or those like me who like that i can make it my way, play others stuff or play regular content. dont mess this up. tell those others who dont like MA or tickets to go do something else and leave those who like MA alone. things were getting boreing till MA. Devs what will you do? just be scared of complainers who are mad because people can do it there way or show some guts.

they did a fix, but even after it is still better to get tickets solo, or do no more than team of 4 for decent tickets.

I dunno. I was on a 7 man team yesterday where we came out with 5000+ tickets each. course it was a defeat all on a large map. but still. -

I get a lot of 5 stars on my stuff, but hardly any feedback. I love getting rated 5 stars, but I really enjoy talking to people about it, it helps me improve the arc. Cavatina up there has done an amazing job in helping me improve the Tannhauser Gate.

Glad to help, I love your arcs personally but I'm still gonna point out bugs when I see em because its more helpful than babbling madly about how awsum an arc is. -
added it to my arc as well. Hopefully it helps if we can get it popularized. >>

It'd be nice if you could pick non-boss characters from the stock groups to use in "fight a boss" battles, which would serve here as "setpiece" battles -- LT challenging you or training warriors. But currently I don't think that's possible. Any Warrior boss fight has to be an Elite Slasher/Hewer/Crusher.
[/ QUOTE ]
No kidding. I wanted to use lts. as boss fights in a planned low-level arc of mine (like the devs often do in the 1-10 content), and ran into a wall when I found I couldn't actually do that.
I've found two somewhat haphazard workarounds, though they're rather limited. The first is of course to make a custom group lt, but you can only get so close to existing groups, and the second is to make an 'enemy escort' - select the add an escort objective, make the captive an lt. and set to hostile. It'll 'fail' the mission when defeated, but if fail is complete, at least it technically accomplishes its purpose.
Like I said, rather limited.
[/ QUOTE ]
Really? Because I'm working on a low-level arc with the Outcasts and Vahzilok, and had to use bosses. I just picked "Random" and when I tested on a low character the boss spawned as a lieutenant.
I could be wrong though, and I'll definitely go back and confirm.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thats how I did it with my arc. set the "bosses" to boss, and therefore on lower diffs they spawn as lieutenants -
Its impossible to really MAKE a 5 star mission. at least not without massive help in proofreading and feedback.
Plus the law of averages on ratings you get pretty much assures a good arc will hit 4 stars. -

Uh.
Thats odd.
I mean. My arcs been 4 starred for about a week now and its up to 122 plays. and I just got the illustrious badge last night.
:P
I think 4 star arcs are seeing a lot of play.
[/ QUOTE ]
I am guessing you promoting your arc and not just letting it sit there and wait for random plays (since you care about the badges). That is apples and oranges. If you work, i.e. promote, trade plays. etc. a 122 plays is not out of the question.
This past weekend I had an arc hit page 1 right before I went to dinner. I got 55 plays in about a HOUR while I was offline eating.

[/ QUOTE ]
the one time I hit page one I got 3 plays and then got viciously 1starred into the 4 star range..so..YMMV :P -
[ QUOTE ]
I certainly hope I won't get flamed for this, but I am curious...
Do you get a better ticket bonus/more drops from a Defeat All MA mission? Or would you have gotten the same amount of tickets from killing the same guys if the Mission Objective had been Click the Glowie?
[/ QUOTE ]
The number of tickets depends wholly on the number of mobs you killed, seeing as the end of mish bonus is basically all the tickets you already earned off mobs, multiplied by the mish's multiplier (firther in an arc is moar tickets)), so no, it doesnt really affect it -
I love feedback.
Its done nothing but help tighten up the Fusionette Task Force into the arc it is today. -

A 4 is very, very good.
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree. But under the criteria the Devs have set for obtaining more publishing slots, a 4 is "not good enough." (Not to mention sorting/visibility issues in the current implementation of the browser.)
Still waiting for an announcement of alternate means.
[/ QUOTE ]
4 stars may be very, very good, but it only at best puts your arc on page 200+ which frankly sucks. If you are up somewhere in the first few pages you can get 50 plays in an hour. Once you sink to the 4 star "basement" you will be lucky to get that in a few weeks.

My biggest concern is why are there isn't any feedback on lower star ratings?
[/ QUOTE ]
A combination of pain in the butt griefing and some people living in mortal fear of their global being visible and getting one-starred in return.
[/ QUOTE ]
Pretty much. Most people seem to think daring to say "yes, I one starred your arc" is inviting them to go into RAEG moad and 1star all your arcs.
I still stand by the idea that the law of averages will kill the chance of anything but the most amazingly brilliant arc ever from ever staying at 5 stars, though.
Not to say thats a bad thing. I'm highly proud that I have an arc that's stayed solidly at 4 and continues to bring in 4-5 4 or 5 star rates a day. -

We had one... and it kept wobbling on and off the HOF thanks to be mathematical implausibility of a 4.5+ average.
[/ QUOTE ]I would argue that we had one that kept wobbling on and off because a lot of people truly didn't feel it deserved 5 stars
[/ QUOTE ]
Its a bit of both, I think.
Either way, I find most if not all of the truly good arcs are 4 starred. anything 5 star tends to have very few votes to its name at best. -
Guess I'll put up Mine in here too, because I too am an Infinity person.
