Quote:uh... The invasion began on May 23rd, 2002, the game picks up 2 years later, in 2004.Day One of the First Rikti War
Dr. Helen Markov, later to be known as the heroine Steele Magnolia
22 years old
caucasian, auburn hair in a simple ponytail, hazel eyes, glasses
5'8" (however she is wheelchair bound) 130 lbs
Helen was at work with her father, Yevgenij Markov, at the family business Markov Industries (metallurgical applications) in Brickstown. Her mother was PPD Sergeant Debbie Markov in Galaxy City (where the family home is near Gemeni Park).
Her mother was injured during the attack while evacuating civilians to the sewers in Gemini Park. Helen and her father took shelter from the bombardment in the basement of Markov Industries. They were dug out of the partially collapsed building three days later.
The Rikti attack led Helen to focus her metallurgical research from deep sea drilling applications to weaponry that would pierce Rikti armor. Seven years later (with the start of the game) she would don a suit of armor with neurological implants, carry a rifle, and fight the rikti herself as Steele Magnolia.
For my part (to be vaguely on topic) My character would have been in the middle of no were in the highlands of Scotland trying very hard to ignore the world. -
The only thing I would add to this suggestion is to reduce the number of currencies to just Inf and XP. no more tokens or prestige, etc, etc.

STAFFS! STAFFS! STAFFS! STAFFS! STAFFS! STAFFS! STAFFS! STAFFS!
Did I mention I want a staff set? -
Quote:Smell's to much of final fantasy, can't possibly be any good swords in there.Crap list.
The only sword i really didn't know much about was the #4 slot Stormbringer and their excuse is "the character is cool"
Sorry but that list should be more like...
Zangetsu
Buster Sword (movie and regular version)
Sword of Omens
Excalibur
Masamune (Chrono Trigger)
Murasame (if you're a geek you should know this is the opposite of the masamune)
Masamune (Sephiroth's Sword)
Squall's Gunblade
Dragon Dagger (and Sword of Darkness combo or alone ^.^)

Quote:For good reasons, the novel was a mess trying to explore them all as would a film, for me PKD was at his best when doing short stories that focused on one idea at a time, Is why they tend to make better movies. There are plenty of elements of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? that never made it into Blade Runner's adaptation but that Scott could incorporate into a new film, such as android infiltration of the police force or the sinister demagoguery of the Buster Friendly and His Friendly Friends TV show. (And while "Blade Runner" is a great title, it's something that appealed to William S. Burroughs's sensibilities and has nothing to do with PKD.)

Quote:The photo's aren't meant to be holographic, it is the computer doing the seeing round corners. what on earth made you think it was the photo that was doing all that and not the computer he fed it in to?Most of that is because it is such terrible, terrible science fiction. That stuff just bugged me then and it bugs me now. I could excuse it if it were silly sci-fi like Star Trek or Star Wars, but it's supposed to be serious science fiction, so it needs to be done up right. Plus, plot points hinge on impossible things like the holographic photo. Holographs are cool, but the camera can't see around corners.
Quote:It's also clear that style was uppermost in Scott's mind. Even Joanna Cassidy once made fun of it, saying that it was silly that during a headlong escape from an executioner her character would stop to put on a clear raincoat and do her hair. Annoying.
If you want stupid, why does an assassination model enhanced android not just crush his wind pipe then run off, why bother to strangle him with a tie. -
It was an odd list, it didn't have a lot of authors best work in it, Bank's "the algerbrist" but not "Excession"? Atwoods the handmaidens Tale but not the blind assassin? (both have speculative fiction elements) it was weird when they then included people like Robin Hobb, who is fine but has a terrible procrastination style of writing where she dawdles for 2 books then crams most of the story in to the third book. Also what the Hell is Dan Abnett doing near any list that isn't "biggest hacks in the known world" but not put Victor Pelevin in the running.

To be fair to the obviously bat **** crazy dude, Hiem theory does actually suggest that strong enough magnetic fields should do this.
Of course no one actually builds 50 Tesla field coils. -

Quote:Given the script, there really aren't.World War Z to open at the end of December, 2012. Read one thing saying it was opening on the 21st. Could be worse things to be doing that watching WWZ when the world goes kaflooey, I guess...

I'd just like it if we didn't all look like we have goat legs.
-
A thousand times Cryptonomicron, one of the best books ever written.

Until it's a volumetric display it's not 3D, it's just annoying.

They are... jar of sauce? what the smeg? FROM SCRATCH DAMN YOUR EYES!
ahem. -
Quote:Well at least we cook and not just let some agro-corp precook it then warm it up in a microwave. :PWell...you are what you eat...
And can you deny that English cuisine consists of boiling stuff till all the flavor runs out?
I think the only thing I boil when cooking is pasta and potatos... steam that veg, STEAM IT! -
With stock coolers on maybe, saph's doesn't have a stock cooler. Plus that very nice case is sound dampened, so should be pretty much mousey quiet after start up.
Good choices Saph, should go like a rocket. -
Quote:And the puddle jumpers? or was that just glossed over?Oh there clearly is a ZPM manufacturing plant in the city. The problem is that they haven't found it or else figured out what it is yet. When the ancients took over the city for a while they promptly built more ZPM's using the cities resources. So the tech is there in the city. They just never identified it in the series. Now that the city is on earth at some point they will finally figure out the trick of it and be able to manufacture them to order.
as for the likeable characters... bwah hahahahahahahaha, good one, well written, an excellent lampooning of cliché ridden drivel. -
It was okay, the 12 shard drops I managed was nice too. but that did take 3 hours.
was only getting 1 or 2 seconds added activation time for most of it. -
Quote:The Zero Point modules, why was there no facility for making them in the city? Why the hell would you leave home with out that?Okay you lost me, I need more specifics cuz I'm not sure what your referring to. Sorry for being confused.
If this power source was so awesome was it not used in anything that needed a lot of power like for instance the puddle jumpers? If not what the hell was powering them? -
Quote:So the gaping maw of "why leave the ability to manufacture your power source behind" in SG:A didn't seem like a bit of an issue?Nope. They had much better writing staff. Good writing, likeable characters, and solid entertaining episodes makes the fans much more lenient and forgiving.
The only thing that irritated me was when they realized they screwed up and made Zats too powerful (1 shot stuns, 2 shots kill, 3 shots disintegrates) then pretended it never happened. They should have realized that was a bad idea to begin with. -
Quote:I've had one character for 7 years now, you really think I need more slots?Hello Everyone!
Our apologies to those of you whose global handle was changed due to Global Server Access and the collisions. We understand and sympathize that many of you had long-standing connections to your global names, but we are certainly hopeful that the benefits you will gain from the increased number of available character slots, as well as the increase in the number of people you can play with, will make up for the inconvenience of having to change your global name.
Again, we understand your concerns, and apologize for any inconvenience.
Sincerely,
Freitag
It's more annoying to have lost out to some one that doesn't even play any more than anything. -
It is annoying that so many of us lost out to inactive accounts both global wise and character name wise.
It's a farce, but it's done. -
Quote:Man SG:1 and SG:A must have driven you up the wall...Since the crew of the Destiny has the ability to manufacture hi tech parts out of unrefined ores they can cobble together what they need to do some food preservation. Even if they couldn't do that much they would have at least had plenty of time to relearn the simple techniques of salting, pickling, brining, and drying food.
They made a still for crying out loud. If they can figure out a way to make booze they can figure out how to make beef jerky and dried fruits and veggies.
And heaven forbid they hadn't learned those skills by now they just encountered their own descendants who were stranded on a world for 30 years after losing contact with Novis and they could have gotten those skills and equipment from them.
So there's no reason for them to use stasis pods as freezers.
