CoH has the great advantage of being able to see what quests party-members have and be able to set the active mission
[/ QUOTE ]
That tells you what a team are doing now, not what they plan to do, plus there's a 90% chance that the mission title is going to meaningless to someone looking anyway.

The reason Carni & I are banging on about the WAR LFT system is it does seem to work
[/ QUOTE ]
Begging pardon, but the reason it works is that it was there from day one. LotROs was definately retro-fitted, I'm guessing that WoW's was also. It's too late for CoX, because the playerbase already thinks of the LFT/M system as a lost cause.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hmmm. Not sure about that at all Ravens. I use it constantly, so do most leaders when we're searching for extra members. I think its because CoX uses so many instances. There's no point shouting on Broadcast really, half the teams are likely to be outside of range. So I stick my LFT flag on and I know that when a leader does /sea chances are I'm going to be top of the list.
The only places I've noticed Broadcast LFTs happening a lot and superceding flags is Freedom. I think anyone on lower population servers other than the US big two use the LFT / Search system more than relying on Broadcast. -
[ QUOTE ]
Anyway, yes, it does sound like a good system, though it also sounds pretty much the same as all the other LFM systems out there (Looking for Member) aside from the fact that it seems like the team leader doesn't get to filter people joining (could be wrong, not played WAR, no intention to try).
[/ QUOTE ]
Nope. there's no filtering system, you just click and off you go.
CoH is so casual that thats probably a good thing. Don't think i'd like a system where the leader is able to say "We're only open for healers".
And apologies for any aggressiveness today, too much coffee / too little nicotine (stupid body, stop craving). -

But the system we have is pretty rubbish
[/ QUOTE ]
I didn't say it couldn't be better, I said you'd be hard pressed to get examples from other games which would improve it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sugar and myself have already posted an example : WARs Open Party system.
Edit : Carbifax, I like it. Makes me sound like a pasta-based snack food.
[/ QUOTE ]
Are you being alarmingly pedantic today Carni? Or is it just a general thing?
'Hard pressed' does not mean 'impossible.' Well done, you've found one example in one game where a sub-component of the LFT system could be added giving an improvement.
PS. Typos can produce such glorious results. I corrected it in the original, but you lot are posting fast.
[/ QUOTE ]
You're being pretty pedantic yourself Ravens
The thing is the "one feature" in WAR is also one BaB himself has said previously would be a cool feature to add. Which is why I'm harping on about it. It's also no stranger to the Suggestions Board for yonks. -

WAR currently has the best team search facility of any of the MMOs I play; click a button and it gives you a list of open teams, with the distance (time to reach them) number of members, and what activity they're engaged in (PvE, PvP, Public Quest), click another button, and you join the team - no invite required.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sorry, but if I'm playing with a couple of guys from my SG then I'd be a little put out if someone randomly invited themselves to my team. I don't mind people asking, but as usually we only play a couple of missions I don't want people to join my team to find we are quitting half a mission later. Not fair on them or us.
[/ QUOTE ]
Then you don't mark your Team as Open or Looking for Members and it doesn't show in the list.
WAR lists Open Parties, that is Parties specifically looking for members. If you don't want members you set the Party as Closed -

Fantasy Hockey Stick......... I cant get a 99 on the back of a hockey jersey or anything that close to the Oilers symbol on the front or I'd take it more seriously
[/ QUOTE ]
Knowing my luck they'll only add an Ice Hockey stick though...
Mixed grass hockey the most evil game played with two sexes...

Grass? Who plays on grass in this day and age -
[ QUOTE ]
Frankly, I doubt you'll see many screenshots, because team search is a universally derided concept the (MMO) world over.
WoW has one nice facility, which is that you can state that you are attempting to find a team for specific instances/raids/etc, but the way it is actually implemented sucks.
Of course, there are improvements which could be made, but if we're being honest, what's really needed is for people to learn to use the system they have rather than just yelling on broadcast. That's the case for every single MMO I've played in.
[/ QUOTE ]
But the system we have is pretty rubbish, you've no idea which teams are doing what and which teams would actually like some extra people.
An Open Teams system (as per my question to BaB) would be my #1 QOL feature to CoX. -

Three factions ( two of which are ostensibly part of the same organisation) are battling in the streets over possession of an extraordinary device and the one person that can operate it. You could claim success by simply spiriting the hostage away, but there's more fame to be had if you could take all three villains down as well....
[/ QUOTE ]
I love that arc (its Fautline by the way, for the benefit of the OP). The whole arc is well worth doing on teams. So much fun (except for the annoying Vash mission. Damn zombies) -
[ QUOTE ]
You only get a buff from team mates, and the only way you would get 7 teammates within 8' is to form a rugby scrum. Typically, you would be able to keep 1 or 2 within the aoe at most, which makes this power worse than Combat Jumping.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well it is called "Phalanx Fighting", so the rugby scrum tactic is obviouly what the devs had in mind.
Why is beyond me though. I'm betting its all a Nemises Plot. He's hoping people adopt this tactic when fighting his troops (that'll end messily) -

Also hope the rez works on henchman!
[/ QUOTE ]
TBH it seems damn unlikely; none of the player rezzes work on henchmen, including AoEs like Howling Twilight.
[/ QUOTE ]
I expect that will be the case too, and so I wont be too disappointed if thats the case.
I had hoped this was from the corruptor version, and that the MM one would buff all pets (to a lesser extent than the user buff on the corruptor one of course) and allow you to rez henchman.
[/ QUOTE ]
There's no chance of you being able to use the Rez on Henchies really, given that you're not allowed use things like Vengence on them.
It will be interesting seeing who all the */Pain MMs decide to use their buffs on. I can see a lot of "Stop buffing the henchies" posts, especially US Side. -

Then lo and behold - you can save/load costumes. Well, we're halfway there. You've got to love the devs for being ahead of the curve

Sorry, I've been in the boondocks for a few days (that backwater, PoS town of London) and I must've missed something.
What's this about?

Another random thought, these bonus powers are accolades. So shape-shifted Khelds should be able to use em. That could be pretty handy!
-
What I like to do is leave Singy "on point" at the side of a doorway whilest I wormhole a group into a corner. That way any I miss come running at me, meet Singy on the way and get repelled & attacked whilest I'm doing horrible things, involving high gravity and pointy sticks, to their mates.
Singy is a pretty good tank. He can absorb a lot of damage. On teams though he won't be able to hold the aggro for long if someone else is also attacking his targets, he has poor Taunting abilities.
But standing in him is a great tactic, especially vs things like Warwolves, Crey Power Tanks or Rikti Soldiers and Headsmen (all of whom prefer melee). -
I was going meh.
Until I saw the accolades! They seem rather useful, even if they'll be on the sort of Timer the Creys Pistol and the like are on.
Physician (Rez) and Security Chief (AOE Hold) immediately jump out as very useful ones as emergency panic buttons.
And 30 days? Easy-peasy. Chronic altisis FTW! -

Wow? 25% bonus dmg per mob? We're talking 250% raw bonus damage to every single attack with 10 mobs. Add buildup and enchancements and we're going 450%ish?
[/ QUOTE ]
The first enemy gives you 25%, the others give you less. According to the description anyway. -

Hehe, seeing the amount of cosume contests we have - A catwalk in a fashion show enviroment held inside the opera house with an applauding audience and photographer's camera flashes would be great fun.
It would certainly capitalise on one of CoX's favourite strengths and pastimes that is the costume creator.
[/ QUOTE ]
There is one mission where you've to rescue a crowd at an opera performance from the Carnies.
But when you enter you get "This old warehouse has perfect acoustics for an Opera"
So we DO have an opera house. Unfortunately its like a billion other buildings in Paragon (its in Brickstown somewhere I think) -

The nearest thing to a primitive (stone age) shield is the Ishlangu carried by Zulu warriors. It was made from an Ox hide stretched over a wood frame.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hang on a sec mate, i apologise for the "cave man" generalisation, as it seems to have upset all the budding historians.
Let me put it another way, this is a super hero game, set in the most part in the present/future.
I was just passing an opinion that we might have now got enough "days gone by" content.
[/ QUOTE ]
Unless someone writes a 1880s-1920s steampunk and/or horror zonal set in England (or New England alternatively) I agree!
The "coming storm" is taking its own sweet time arriving. Did they take a wrong turn (hint : Keep going past the planet with the ring, take a left at the big orangy gassy planet, straight past the rocky red planet, stopping only to squash the little robots wandering its surface, and we're the nice blue and green planet immediately after it). -
Once I hit 22 with my WS I (ab)used the bug to reslot Nova and Dwarf so I had the Heal, Mire and Taunt slotted along with my Resistance fully slotted.
As well as spending my 1-6 slots on my Nova powers. -
I'd hold off making PvP judgements for a bit, the entire system seems to be getting gutted and rebuilt. For example Single Target Holds in PvP become incredibly short in duration (2.5 seconds) with the damage going up 5 or 6 fold.
All Mez Protection is getting removed in PvP, being replaced by Resistance, Toggles won't drop, instead they'll become Inactive whilest mezzed. And the PPPs are getting rebuilt as well.
And don't forget half the "villain empaths" will be Masterminds, so the "stay out of combat, you're squishy" won't really apply to them. -
[ QUOTE ]
Well its just what i thought it would be .... NOT anywhere near what we have with empaths and as i knew it would be second rate im not bothered about it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Looks fairly similiar to me. Fortitude is replaced with an AOE Buff in World of Pain, AB is Painbringer in all but name. The only real difference I can see if Recovery Aura has been replaced with that debuff power, Anguishing Cry.
What differences do you mean? -

Psyclone, a psi/storm fender

Yikes - that could get confusing if ever we team and I'm on Psychelone, my mind/storm troller
Apparently it's not only great minds that think alike...
[/ QUOTE ]
and Psiclone my kinetics / psi defender
[/ QUOTE ]
Hee hee. I've a Mind/Psi Dom on Defiant with the same name! Although I may have wiped her actually. She was a Crey vat-grown clone of Carnifax, but I stopped playing her in her teens. -
[ QUOTE ]
Soothing Aura: While this power is active all nearby allies will be healed by Soothing Aura every couple of seconds for a small portion of their health.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hang on. Did the devs just create a SpamHeal power?
I can see this getting annoying fast! -
[ QUOTE ]
Looks like its becoming city of cave men / medieval.
[/ QUOTE ]
You mean i12 didn't tell you that already? And Shields have been coming since i11 or so.
I agree though, those settings don't really interest me either. Hopefully now they've got it out of their systems we can get something more Sci-Fi / Tech.
For one I'd like to see them resolve the Rkiti war and the "Coming Storm" rather than faffing about more with Heroes in Roman Times or other zany time travelling stories.
Or a decent Magic arc with some survival horror aspects / references. -

I always thought they were some form of recharge station... PPD Hardsuits would fit but also officers needing a quick rest and recharge before heading back onto the streets.
BTW the cells are traditionally downstairs not up!

Otherwise how could suspects "accidently" trip down the stairs during interrigation. -

How could you possibly exploit this!?
[/ QUOTE ]
Edit the .costume file to point to costume items you haven't unlocked, or are otherwise unavailable.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes. Because a programmer would never include a check on each item loaded to check it is valid. That'd just be crazy...
