Semantic bickering over kill/defeat aside, stealth defeat-all missions need to go. They're a throwback to the bad old days and a maddening waste of time. If someone wants to defeat everybody in the joint for the thrills or the expeez, there's nothing stopping them, but when I take a mission that's billed as, for example, "3 bioweapons labs to destroy", I decline to be pleased when I have sought out and destroyed those labs, then discover that the mission still won't end until I've personally punched out every giant mushroom, rock monster, and uppity rose bush in the entire giant sprawling blue friggin' cave by myself.

Sort of a nicer version of the "Hey, Marauder, turns out your girl was a traitor. No worries, though, I wasted her so you don't have to" conversation.

Really? 'Cause I have to be honest, I look at it in exactly the opposite way. If it had no connection to the TV storyline, so much the better. No cross-contamination. If it's rubbish, it's dismissable.

Quote:Seriously. After the second or third time Maelstrom did that to me, I wanted a mission where my character learns from this experience and works out a way to prevent it from happening the next time, then savors the look of shock on un-teleported-to-safety Eddie's face for a moment before smashing it in.BTW ... Dev's have been robbing heros of victories for a long time. The first time I saw a boss or EB TP themselves out of a fight ... I felt robbed of a victory.
(Also, I want my player teleport to have his teleport effect. It's so much less lame.) -
Quote:The only other statues in Paragon City that rival Galaxy Girl's, that I can think of offhand, are the one of M1 in Blyde Square (that Positron and Valkyrie are standing in front of), and there's a humongous one of Cassiopeia on one of the little islands around Peregrine Island (ISTR Crimson's standing in front of it).Galaxy Girl: Was killed during the Rikti invasion. There probably WAS sentiment like that (and visibly would have been had the tech been around for it.) She had a *big freaking statue* - taller than most of, if not any of the others - in Galaxy City in a very visible place, as opposed to, say, the one stuck next to the military surplus store or stuck in the courtyard of an office building.
Quote:With a plaque explaining who she was.
Quote:Are you SURE you want to use these arguments? These are events that, in game - and even real-world-ish - happened years ago. There's been a second Rikti invasion since then. There's been the driving out - and return - of the Fifth Column. And now we've been plastered with meteors. Life has moved on, and Galaxy Girl and Hero One are now history. Recent history, but history.
It's difficult to impose a change like that on a persistent shared world once it's going. You have to do it as part of a flag day, like the removal of Galaxy City; otherwise you get weird discontinuities. Characters whose personal timeline hasn't reached the transition point yet running across an overworld-level feature that reflects the change they haven't yet experienced. That's annoying and generally ought to be avoided. -
Quote:I'm agnostic about it. I confess to a certain irrational attachment to some of the trainers, but the TF contacts - who are, apart from Brawler, the ones on the table here, IIRC - I'm not so bothered about. Except maybe Numina. That would just seem unfair, given that she's been killed twice already. I imagine she's getting rather tired of it.Just something for fun, since everyone has been discussing and guessing Who Will Die, and even who they want to die.
Which Signature Hero do you *not* want to die? -

Quote:Well, there you run into one of the principal problems of operating in a persistent shared world. That would all seem pretty bizarre to the people who haven't played the mission yet.I'll acknowledge it up when I see the same treatment given to this IMPORTANT SOMEBODY that was given to, say, Hero One or Galaxy Girl. Do you see the flags at half mast? Do see civilians dressed in black, or at least mentioning it on the street? Do you see heroes foregoing their capes in her memory? Did you hear the City Rep making a public announcement? Nacional holiday? Where's the memorial? Where's her statue? Mourning of any kind?

And she's Ms. Liberty's mom, which, I mean, every hero who's ever been to Atlas Park should know Ms. Liberty at least in passing. Most of my heroes started there before it became the only choice. Hell, Captain Photon made a point of taking the sentimental journey back to her for his last level-up when he turned 50. So even if he had no other knowledge of Miss Liberty in any other context, he'd still be furious that this had happened.

Quote:Slightly silly question, perhaps, but have you checked to see whether you're actually wearing the title you picked afterward, window behavior notwithstanding? 'Cause I seem to recall that message coming back occasionally when I was level 15, too, but if I turned on "personal player name" in the Options, there it was anyway.Hi, I have two characters above 20th level. They earned the right to carry titles long ago, but when I select a title and click the appropriate button, I'm dumped back to the window that says "congratulations, you've earned a title!" Anyone know what's up with this? Is it a mac thing? Help would be appreciated.

I love that Numina is on that list. It's always struck me as funny that she's one of the "Surviving Eight" given that her whole schtick is that she didn't survive, but now they've gone it one better on the silliness scale by dangling the possibility that she May Be Killed to gin up suspense for WWD.

The character I've been playing a lot lately, the Torch of Victory, has never been on a sewer trial in her life, but she did draw so many sewer missions early in her career that she actually has a special costume just for them.

Quote:I remain disappointed that the Huntsman in this film isn't the Huntsman.I think it will be sweet.
I just wish Thor wasn't playing in it. -
I know, right? It's like that movie some years back that was basically Chick Cyrano de Bergerac, and we were supposed to believe that Janeane Garofalo was the Cyrano figure.

To address the original question: The ambush nerd is clearly whichever mission designer came up with the second mission in Who Will Die? Episode 1. I mean, what the hell.
