Quote:Yeah, wasn't Selene a daywalker at the end of Evolution? And I suspect the reason Michael's missing is because they couldn't get the actor to return. >.>See, now I have some big questions.
After the first two movies, we had a vampire/lycan hybrid who was supposedly very powerful. And we had a vampire/immortal hybrid with Selene herself, who we were led to believe was supposed to be rather powerful.
During the whole of the trailer, we only see Selene, not the other dude (Michael?) And we see her screaming 'Where's Michael?' So....where is he?
I can probably suspend my disbelief enough to watch this, but there look to be some major plot holes, and I just hate those.
Probably a renter for me. -
Russell Crowe will be in both of them.

Thoughts on last Sunday's episode:
- Pretty predictable that Jason would save Jessica; I thought he'd have to go into panther mode to have the strength to keep her out of the sun, but fortunately Marnie stopped the spell.
- If I would have posted a recap for the episode prior to this, it would have mentioned how unfortunate it was that, despite their close connection, we've obviously needed more scenes with Bill and Jessica; this week, I was glad to see some interaction between Bill and Jason.
- Well, it looks like Tara is firmly committed to Marnie's cause, but I doubt Marnie will survive long enough to be able to teach her anything; perhaps Antonia will possess Tara? Or Lafayette?
- Even though Andy is a little more at home being the screw up character, I was really hoping we were done with that sort of nonsense last season with Jason because I have a low tolerance for dumb characters without good intentions.
- I'm actually starting to like Alcide and Debbie's new pack leader.
- Thank god that was a dream, Jessica.
- I don't recall Sookie tripping out like that when she was with Bill, and she had some of his blood, so was Eric's blood that much more potent or does this have something to do with Sookie's faerie heritage?
- Alright, I'm not sure whether the fake or real confrontation between Jessica and Hoyt was more destructive; on one hand, it really sucks to see one of the nicest characters on the show explode like that, but he's kinda got points.
- Maybe I'd be as ripped as Jason if I had to do pushups whenever I felt attracted to Jessica.
- As predicted, Tommy is up to shenanigans; let's hope he doesn't develop a tolerance for skinwalking and moves on with his parents.
- Good show of loyalty, Jason, but you can't resist that hotness forever.
- For a minute there I thought they were going to try to write off Rene's homicidal tendencies to possession, but in any case, I'm hoping they wrap up or tie whatever's happening with that ghost that's stalking Mikey and Lafayette in a hurry.
- Still shocked when Jessica was kicked out of two houses in one night, though; that can't be good for her budding killer instinct.
- Welp, the whole me liking Alcide's and Debbie's new pack leader lasted for a good 15 minutes.
- Damn, Antonia is more powerful than I thought; necromancy, illusions, and weather control? I'm wondering if they're just trying to figure out ways to make her more of a threat than Russell.
- I was wondering how the hell Tara would make it out of this plot alive; guess we have the answer.
- Man, even though it was awesome to see Sookie and Debbie throw down last season, I really hate rehashing the same plot, which looks like where we're headed.
- Let's see if Pam comes to Eric's aid; it certainly seemed like the bond between maker and progeny can overcome Antonia's spell, but will they go as far as having Eric watch Pam getting killed to snap out of it?
- With all the vampires' resources, they sure seem to have a hard time hiring a sniper to take out Marnie.

I honestly thought the second one was the best of the franchise and the prequel was just passable since we already knew the whole damn story, and this trailer gives me the feeling they'll phone this one in. When I originally read the synopsis for it I was intrigued by the idea of humans taking on the vampires and werewolves on a large scale but I have the sense that they were trying to keep the budget as small as possible. -

Depends on the kind of driving. Certain songs just sound better when you're rolling on the open highway or in the city, but here's what I have on my Road Mix CD:
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Under the Bridge; Scar Tissue
The Weakerthans - Aside
The Pixies - Where is My Mind?
Neon Trees - Animal
The Killers - All These Things That I've Done
Audioslave - I Am the Highway
Guns N' Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine
Dropkick Murphies - Shipping off to Boston
MGMT - Time to Pretend
ACDC - Highway to Hell; Black is Black
Creedence Clearwater - Have You Ever Seen the Rain; Born on the Bayou
Cheap Trick - Surrender
Filter - Take a Picture
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama
Journey - Don't Stop Believing -
Just finished the first season on Netflix. It's good for a watch, but it's got a ways to go before reaching JLU territory. Still, Justice League took a season or so to really hit its stride, so I'll give the second season a look for sure.

Quote:Arg.I agree. I just don't see how 200 apes can start a revolt against a population in the billions, when it starts in a country where we have tanks (those Apes arent going to tear through a tank) big guns, and the government would sooner fire bomb the city than let it happen.
Folks, if you want the spoilerific explanation then PM me, but don't let this aspect of the story alone deter you from seeing it. -
Quote:Well the city was San Francisco, not sure if that helps. Don't know about how extensive their ape population is.Reasonable except for the fact that there are barely a couple hundred of any species of ape left on the planet let alone in a single city.
I guess I just have difficulty accepting the concept because it's a simple fact. I can accept superhero, fantasy, and alien invasion films a lot more easily because there is absolutely zero knowledge of what is actually out there other than in our limited perception range. On the other hand the number of apes/gorillas/chimps/orangutans/etc is pretty well known and there aren't more than a handful of any of them in any city.
My feelings aren't the fault of the movie though. I just don't personally like that sort of playing with facts. If you liked it then for you it was a good movie and I won't try to argue you out of that. Trying to argue against somebody's personal opinion is folly and arrogance wrapped up in a great big batch of duh.
But, there were more than just chimps involved. There were gorillas and orangutans and probably other variations that I didn't notice. And Caesar recruited not only from the zoo but the facility where they were being tested on, which was also in that area and was bringing in a lot of apes (undoubtedly from different places) for their testing.
*EDIT*
Oh, and I'm likely off on the "couple hundred" estimate. It looked like a lot in different shots and at the end not as much. -
Quote:See my post above. But I'll reiterate. The story revolves more around Caesar's liberation than the apes taking over the planet, so the ape revolt depicted in this movie is limited to a couple hundred apes at most in one city. There is an explanation for how the apes eventually inherit the earth, but I won't spoil it here.Won't bother going to see it unless somebody who can seen it can truthfully answer yes to the following question.
Did they give a valid explanation for why there are apparently 10,000 or so apes in a single city? And was the situation the same the world over?
Because the only way the ape revolt could in any way work is if it was just like in the original movies. Virtually every family had one as a pet so they were literally everywhere. -
Quote:Well go see it. It's good.I wish I could believe that's what they were motivated by but I can't shake the feeling they prefer trying to milk a few more bucks out of an IP with an established fanbase than risk trying something new.
Maybe I'm just getting old. -
Quote:Well yeah, but the "be original" logic obviously only goes so far. When it comes to remaking movies, as with the retelling of any story in any form, shouldn't the main concerns be (1) whether or not it stands on its own and (2) whether or not it's good?Nah, You can be the ones to get over yourselves. There's plenty of stories that would make great movies without having to remake or whatever POTA.
And I'm not complaining about making books and plays into movies. Just the remaking of films.
Instead of redoing films that have already been made how bout movies based on
The Guardians of the Flame
The Dresden Files
Hammers Slammers
War against the Chtorr
The Lensmen
Jack L Chalker's Dancing Gods
Chronicles of Amber
Xanth
The Belgariad
The Mallorean
The Wheel of Time
Discworld
The Man-Kzin Wars
The Berserker Wars
StarFist
Harry Harrison's Stars and Stripes alternate history
The Ellenium/Tamuli
Demontech novels
The Deryni Saga
Callahan's Bar
Battletech
There's thousands of stories that would make great movies/ series of movies. -
Just got back from it. It was pretty damn good. I'm glad they decided to have the more narrow focus of Caesar's journey rather than let it encompass the entire story of how apes came to rule the planet. Andy Serkis did a great job as always. I'm not sure if he did all of the apes, but they managed to give character to the ones that called for it. I hope other folks go to see it; it has what a lot of summer movies skimp on in favor of explosions and effects: imagination and heart.
And yes, Freida Pinto is damn easy on the eyes. -
I remember when I first saw the trailer for this movie I became wary. "Going back to a dry well" blah blah. But, then I saw this trailer before Cowboys and Aliens. Totally reshaped my perception about what this movie was going to be, and I'm definitely seeing it this weekend.
-
Specifically it was the Marion Cotillard pic, which seems fairly spoilerish. When the characters involved were announced, I already went into writer mode to puzzle out the plot, and it's one thing to guess at it, and it's another to have it spelled out for you with so much time before the movie comes out.
-
Alright, I'm going to have to avoid future DKR threads now. I'm starting to see too much and I'm afraid it'll take away from the experience.

From the teaser you can see he has the cape still but loses the sleeves. I'd rather have it so it's either cape and sleeves or no cape and no sleeves.
-
They probably don't want to go with a smooth suit texture because they're afraid it'll look rubbery, but if they could go with a smooth more cloth-like texture I would have preferred that any day.
-
Goyer and Nolan are doing the story, so that bodes well. And for me, Snyder's only failed to deliver on Sucker Punch.
-
Oh, and for the love of Zod let this be better than Green Lantern!
-
Not a fan of the scales or the hair. I've never really liked how in any live action Superman works they've felt the need to give Clark/Superman long hair just so they could change the style back and forth. Also, the costume colors look muted there, and I thought they learned their lesson about that.
-
It was certainly a missed opportunity. Seemed like one of those movies that was supposed to lure you in with the visuals and give you substance in the theater, but the substance either wasn't there or it was jumbled. They simply experimented too much with the experimenting, from the multiple levels of fantasy to lack of continuity between the action sequences.

The animated shows really helped make Darkseid more popular, so he's been involved in a lot of the memorable story arcs over the last decade. The same goes for Lex Luthor, with the additional reason that folks have been wanting to see this type of Luthor in the movies, so they've got to get their fix somewhere. Another important story was the What's So Funny About Truth, Justice, and the American Way? arc, in which Superman goes up against a group of heroes that represent a lot of the "extreme" characters that were made popular in the 90's; this group was called The Elite, and they were led by Manchester Black, who's also been involved in a few of Superman's major stories over the years.
