Quote:So getting good at a game over years immediately makes you a power gamer? Yeah........no.Mind unblown, since by my definition you're not a casual gamer. Your knowledge of the game, veteran status, and time spent on the game even when you're not actually playing it (ie, using the forums) puts you far above many many players, regardless of how many hours a week you play.
Until the devs step up and give us their definition of "casual," my definition is just as valid as yours.
It is not up to a Dev to define the English language. These are common MMO terms that have existing definitions.
You are apparently trying to twist the idea of a casual player to exclude set rewards. The fact is that any player can gather enough money to purchase any reward in this game. To use an out of context dev quote in my favor...time=reward. Given enough time any reward can be gotten. That has nothing to do with being a power gamer or a casual gamer.
Again I have to ask what does spending time on the forum have to do with the game? Have you actually read my posts here? 80% have to do with pie. Hardly power gaming material. -
Quote:Forum is the game too? Who knew....The fact that you're on the forums at all (with over 5,000 posts) is a sign that you are not a casual gamer.
Quote:Do you use Mids?
Quote:Do you know what the best ways to gather up said influence are (the best ways FOR YOU, taking into account boredom, what your friends are doing, and other such intangibles, not necessarily the fastest, most efficient ways for the hardcore farmer, marketeer or average player)?
Quote:Do you look over IO sets and choose the ones with the most beneficial bonuses for your build and playstyle?
Quote:If you do any of those things, sorry, you're not casual.
Ready for me to blow your mind. I am both a casual gamer and a farmer.
Boom! -
Quote:By the dev's definitions over the years, you are not a casual gamer.
EDIT: Specifically the devs has said you don't NEED IOs or the set bonuses that come with them, nor the invention system or the market to enjoy the game casually. People have a warped definition of what is and isn't casual. The only one that matters is the devs.
Actually I fit there "Casual Gamer" mold perfectly. A couple of hours a night and a few nights a week. TF/SF take planning to join and I get possibly a handful a month if I am very lucky.
Casual gamer is not about the stuff you gather, it is about your play style. I can casually enjoy the invention system. During my limited playtime I can gather up the influence to put toward an IO. -
Err....I am a casual gamer and have 3 purple sets (5 items each), LOTG global recharge, and overall I sit on a nice 52% recharge boost before Hasten.
If this game was any more casual friendly we would have to change the name to Progress Quest.
I see PVP recepies as the beginning of true power gamer rewards, and hopefully we will see more super top tier rewards come out. If you play more you should get better rewards. -
Farming and PowerLeveling are not the same thing. Pick one or the other to complain about.

Thanks for holding the contest. It was a lot of fun.

Yes yes yes!!
I also want an Eat Pie emote, Think Pie emote, and a Put Pie on Magically Appearing Window emote. -
Brute punchvoke and Tanker Gauntlet are different, as noted above. Brutes do not have the Gauntlet "Splash" effect that draws more aggro from nearby enemies based on the attack.
On the other topic that grabbed my interest Masterminds have been the "Tanks" of CoV since it came out. Bodyguard made it easier to draw the aggro to a single point. Brutes have always played as damage dealers more than aggro magnets.
I think the real problem is Gauntlet is a simple mechanic developed at the very beginning of when Inherents went into play. When put up next the others it seems almost outdated, even if it does a good job. People like new and flashy abilites. -
OOh...I want the artwork.
Ill be there with bells on -
Best of luck. We will all miss you.
Well...possably not "We" but I did enjoy your contributions to the forum
I'll keep a slice of pie in the fridge for you. -
Performance shifter IO will out-perform, on average, a generic IO in Stamina, even at level 50. It is also immune to -Recovery effects and can be a life saver against Malta or Carnies. In addition, if you can afford to spare 4 slots in Stamina you can go i generic IO and 3 Performance Shifter IO's for the Recovery mod. This actually works out better than slotting two Generic IO's and two Performance Shifter IO's.
The +Recharge proc will give you a chance for a 100% recharge increase for 10 seconds. In Foot Stomp this trigger fairly often and is a great addition if you are already working with a recharge heavy build. -
Quote:I love the tags we've got here.

Thanks for all the lols this morning, folks.
God I love this forum. -
Oddly yes.
I regularly jump into the middle of groups of people in the halls at work and yell "AAauuurrrgggg!!" to get there attention.
That may be why I keep losing my job....food for thought... -
Tags "could" be useful but they likely will not be. When is the last time you have used a tag search and gotten a meaningful result? It would take a lot of community involvement to make them worth while.
Not to say it could not be done. I just do not see it working out on this size of a forum with this type of community. Feel free to prove me wrong -

The problem, I believe, is related to the Thread/Forum Read Marking Type setting.
When I visit the forum on different computers I get different results for what is marked as being Read. This tells me the setting above is set for Inactivity/Cookie Based
A bit about the possible settings
Quote:I use Option 3 on my own forums and it works very well for people who visit the forum often, and possibly on different computers. The down side, as noted, is the potential for increased database and processor load on your server. This becomes magnified as you increase the number of people online. This option controls how threads and forums are marked as read. - Inactivity/Cookie Based - once a user has been inactive for a certain amount of time (the value of the session timeout option) all threads and forums are considered read. Individual threads are marked as read within a session via cookies.
This option is how all versions of vBulletin before 3.5 functioned. - Database (no automatic forum marking) - this option uses the database to store thread and forum read times. This allows accurate read markers to be kept indefinitely. However, in order for a forum to be marked read when all threads are read, the user must view the list of threads for that forum.
This option is more space and processor intensive than inactivity-based marking. - Database (automatic forum marking) - this option is the same as a previous option, but forums are automatically marked as read when the last new thread is read.
This is the most usable option for end users, but most processor intensive.
I belive the two best options would be
- Change to option 3 and monitor Server load to see if it will fix the problem. (Note that changing options resets the read markers for all users on all posts. A small issue but worth noting)
- Decrease the Session Timeout option and see if this provides a better user experience.
Personally it does not bother me as it is now. A bit of a pain when I switch to my laptop but I can deal with it fine. - Inactivity/Cookie Based - once a user has been inactive for a certain amount of time (the value of the session timeout option) all threads and forums are considered read. Individual threads are marked as read within a session via cookies.

What if my hero has just enough money for the magical demon summoning pistol but not for the bullets?

The concept of the Mentor granting powers to a Sidekick was drawn from the Batman and Robin relationship where the Sidekick is essentally using tools of the Mentor. The general idea is that the Mentor can teach you the ability as long as you are nearby.
Not all powers would be available and could be restricted to balance out the sharing a bit.
I do see the point of potential balance issue. The other option would be to move the selection mechanic to the Sidekick. On your enhancement screen you can pick three potential powers. Once sidekicked you will gain one or all of them depending on the level of the Mentor as he/she shares their wisgom with you and helps you learn more.
Not very keen on adding Power Pools or Epics into this however. We are nto trying to turn a lvl 7 into a fully functional 50. The goal, at least in my mind, is to make that level 7 a bit more useful while preserving the one-on-one mentor/sidekick mechanic that we currently have.
Quote:I have to disagree with this. I, like many players, do not like leading teams. I get on a team and follow the star. This means the only way I would get any mentor progression would be to offer up one of my missions and, honestly, I really am not that pushy of a person.Per Positron, you still gain progress on the mentor badges if you're the mission holder (or the team leader if no mission is selected)
That means gaining mentor badges will be easier now, btw.
The test will be once things go live and we can really work with the new Super Sidekick feature. -
The rep titles look to be stock vB. If so you are currently at -50 or lower. The next step is a huge one, -99999
Let just hope they didn't setup group promotions for negative rep -
Will there be pie in this lounge?

Quote:The way I imagined the mechanics was that you would have boxes next to all the eligible primary and secondary powers on your enhancement screen. While you are not teamed you would have the ability to alter them at will. Once you were on a team the choices you had could not be changed until you leave the team./signed, as long as the Mentor can from time to time like we change builds re-select the powers the Sidekick will gain access to.
Dual builds would have the option of dual selections based on what build you were using.
Quote:I dislike the idea of badges being forced to use a game mechanic. If I choose not live with not having accolade powers, thats my choice. But a teaming mechanic that revolves around badges is not a step we should continue taking (We already do this with veteren rewards - some of the latest ones are game changing and some people will never see those)
I like the mechanic, but lets not tie it to a badge - maybe just to difference in level?
-Say the level difference between a mentor and the SK is 40 levels, then maybe 4 powers would be given to the SK to choose from, 30 levels would be 3 powers, 20 would be 2 and 10 levels or less would be 1. -
If you have the time I would enjoy a review of 17006 - End Game. Link is in my sig.
There are a lot of robots in it, however it is a high level arc. -
Victory is the official Pie server.
Enjoy your stay. -
I don't care how unbalanced it was, herding wolf maps was quite fun and made a tank feel like a true super hero.
That and Perez Park herding with my 50. Start at one end and try to draw every mob in the street with you. Extra points if you slotted a KB power and sent them flying
