Endurance is one reason I haven't yet created said brute. I'm hoping I can help offset it by slotting up some help as soon as possible; Miracle and Perf.Shifter at level 17, and a Numina's at level 27.

Looking at Tremor, Whirling Hands, and Foot Stomp here... Tremor and Whirling hands recharge in 14 seconds and dish out about 42 damage base. Foot Stomp recharges in 20 seconds and deals about 60 base.
The faster recharge seems to be to blame for the lower damage on Tremor/WH, but whether the damage-to-recharge ratios match up I can't say at the moment. -

Thanks a ton for posting that build, plainguy!
I took the two of ours and amalgamated them into the following; it boasts 61% Recharge (131% with Hasten), softcapped Ranged Defense, and has Ignite and Time Bomb (I'm very fond of both).

Quote:If it requires a hit check, I'm confidant that Targeting Drone and the accuracy bonuses I've got will make that work. The bigger question now is, does the -tohit stack from the same caster?According to some of the commentors on my /dev guide, the -tohit from Smoke Grenade is *not* autohit, so keep that in mind if you're counting on it as part of your softcapping.
I've never used Smoke Grenade before, come to think of it...
Edit: Here's the new build, ditched Scorpion Shield in favor of slotting in five LotG 7.5's. Added two more into Webnade for a little bit more recharge and ranged Def. Whether or not the 41.3% bonus recharge will have and real effect, I'm not certain.

Quote:Aha, so it is! That's the disadvantage of making builds at the end of the night, and the reason I posted it here. Thanks for that!Your Scorpion Shield is over slotted so your not getting any bonuses from it for your Range Defense. You might as well take out at least the last slot and place it somewhere else. Go to Windows and click on Set & Bonuses to see where your over slotted.
Edit: I moved four slots out of Scorpion Shield and into Health for the full set of Numina's. Still subject to change, but big bit of Ranged Def in there! -
Getting back into one of my favorite heroes, I've decided to overhaul their frankenslotted IO's. I've aimed to get as much Ranged defense as I could, followed by Smashing/Lethal defense, without sacrificing power I want or taking mule powers just for set bonuses.
I'm very happy with the numbers, both set bonuses and enhancement values, that I've come up with so far. Before I actually do the respec however, I thought I'd get some feedback in case there's something I've overlooked.Without further ado:

Here's my preliminary Spines/Fire build for the one I'm working on; it's not finalized and probably suffers from glaring Endurance issues, but that's why it's a rough draft.
It's also planned out as though Fitness were already Inherent, so bear that in mind.

I recently came across the guide too, and found it equally amusing and helpful. Really a shot in the arm for my 'shade!
-
I was actually reading it already when I made my previous reply!
One of my warshades made it to level 47 with virtually nothing but Nova, Extract Essence, and Stygian Circle... Did it in record time, too, just blew through mobs like nothing else!
"Gravity Well is a medicine. At this point it treats quantumstomach, but later it will provide relief for sapperaches and surgeon inflammation." This is fast becoming my favourite guide I've read. XD -
Very good to know, thank you! Time to do some plotting.
-
I'm looking at revitalizing my dusty, crusty old warshade, and I wanted to know:
Do set bonuses apply while in a form?
If so, do sets in form powers apply outside of forms, or in another form? -
I was wondering if there's a good place to look for the targets of either of these defeat badges. I haven't been able to locate any Failed Experiments outside of missions so far, I hope I won't have to get into other people's missions to finish it.
-
YMMV, but personally I would never skip either of the first two blasts in any set. I find they dish out surprising and constant amounts of damage throughout my blaster's career. Fire Blast, specifically, cycles Flares-Fireblast-Flares-Blaze in an unbroken, AV-incinerating inferno.
-
Frankenslotting is inexpensive, easy, quick, and in my opinion very powerful. Definitely something I like to do as I level up a character and work on finalizing an IO build for bonuses (if I bother to do so at all). Essentially you're adding extra slots for SO's to your powers by mixing and matching inventions! Alright in my books!

Quote:I have another example of this, please forgive my mspaint;Stepping into the Wayback machine, you used to be able to apply the leg patterns to both the thigh/tops of the pants and the boot portion This is using a grey blend on white pants, attempting to give it a dirty look. We can't apply patterns to the bottom of pants anymore. or at least I'm missing how.
On the left are the legacy pants from being able to apply two different patterns on the top and bottem. On the right is how it's currently available ingame; only with the Tight lower body setting with the Boots set to Straight for the pant leg. Certainly, the one of the left looks far better...
On that note, I've always wondered why many of the tight fitting options, Tight Pants being the worst offender, make the character's knees look disjointed like a rag doll's.... -
Thanks a lot for your feedback, Twilight Snow, I really learned a lot with just those minor tweaks.
I changed a little more and pushed the total Sm/Lth Defense up to 45.6%! (Mostly just replaced Lightning Field with Jab as it was, and kept the Multistrike in Footstomp, but the latter is certainly subject to change back later.) As I'm making my way towards 50, I'll make the decision if I need to drop CJ or Lightning Reflexes for a travel power, maybe it's not as necessary as I think it is right now. Thanks again!

I recently created a new brute, I've always wanted to have a SS bruiser. Poking around in Mid's I went for a similar high-Sm/Lth Defense build that worked wonders on my Fire/Fire scrapper. I feel like I had to sacrifice a lot of powers to get my numbers up to about 40%, figured I would post it here and see if there's something I'm overlooking.
If there's something I can switch out, I'd really like to pick up Ball Lightning, or maybe even Hasten.

Quote:Certainly! I don't recall what order I took everything in, but...Hmmm, now I wonder what you have for your power selection. It might be beneficial to add the Passives and replace something else but hard to say without knowing your power selections.
Mind sharing your power picks?
I've got every power from Dark Melee except for Taunt and Siphon Life, and all 9 from Invulnerability. I also have Air Superiority and Fly, Swift/Health/Stamina, and Spirit Shark, Bile Spray, and Summon Guardian from Leviathan Mastery (Which will be modified into School of Sharks, Bile Spray, and Arctic Breath). So, 49 is still a free pick.
Slotting's not an issue for me, I'll muck around with them to my satisfaction after I get powers sorted out properly. -
I currently don't have Siphon Life, so that's being added. I also waited until level 49 to pick up Midnight Grasp, which was a dreadful mistake. So, one of the Resists will probably be placed in that power pick, Energys most likely.
-
I'm working on a massive overhaul of my level 50 DM/Inv Brute. As the first time I played either set or the AT, I made some poor choices I wish to rectify.
My question is this; popular opinion seems to be to skip Resist Elements and Energys. Granted that they only add about 10% resist to their damage types once slotted, they also have some other bonuses. Elements has a resist to Slows, and Energys to recovery drain and debuff. Are these simply too small to be worth keeping the powers?
My other choice was to leave out Invulnerability and Tough Hide (I didn't feel the 15-20% defense was doing much), but my mind changed on that so quickly my head's still spinning. ^_^; -

wth is wrong with that? Spider Blast/Spider Manipulation. bwahahahaha

Lord Recluse will be so jealous! -
One reason I'm so excited about Rad Blast is because of Neutrino Bolt's lightning quick recharge... Got a tentative build planned where I don't even take X-Ray Beam.
Too bad that's not likely to stay the same.
