Which is why I suggested a sliding scale based on time unsubscribed & character level (and a flat out no-limit on trials that haven't been taken up).

I've never been convinced by the sub-level-six 'purge' rule, since I've deleted many characters that I got to 10 or so because I finally decided I didn't like the name; sure there may be lots more unused characters at that level - but the ones with names that people might actually want to use are going to be higher - based on my own experience, YMMV of course.

Heck, I have 30 or so names on my EU account - some of which are pretty good as I was lucky enough to start playing in week one - which are just going to waste now I've moved across the pond.

Under the current system, those names will never be freed up.

A quick google of Fizz Cider shows that it has nothing in common with the in-game drink in terms of design or manufacturer and this is nothing more than a coincidence with a very common word.

    Nice over-reaction there!

Of course unlocking names will inconvenience some players, but I'm playing Vigilante here, I'm willing to sacrifice a few individuals for the greater good.

I'd like to see an automatic name purge - if you pick up a trial and don't sub, then after a month or 3 all the names should be available; if you have an inactive sub, then names become freed up gradully depending on how long you've been inactive and the level of the character, e.g.:

    Unsubbed for 6 months, all character names up to level 10 are released;
    Unsubbed for a year, all characters up to 20;
    etc.

(I'd lose a fair few of my EU names under this scheme, but if I was that concerned, I'd pay a month occasionally to protect them)

I don't see why anyone who hasn't played the game since 2005 should expect their names to remain locked to them.

To a true vigilante, the legal system is a joke surely?

I suspect Rorschach would grunt, mark it up to experience, and try to avoid doing it again; he has no respect for the law, no-one outside of his own head has the moral authority to judge him.

I'm seeing a lot of wriggling here about the definition of what a vigilante is. People saying they'd fight crime, but wouldn't be vigilantes.

It was my understanding that a vigilante was someone who worked outside of the law - ie almost every superhero who has been committed to paper. As much as we cheer Batman on when he punches the Joker, what he's doing isn't exactly legal is it? You aren't actually allowed to break a shoplifter's arm, even when Citizen Arresting. They've added a nice get-out in CoH where all heroes are deputised, but even cops get into trouble for beating up suspects - even if they catch them red-handed.

So, any ideas on what they might be?

We did had two rather cool dance emotes in the GR beta, but they were removed (presumably for a future Booster), so they could be part of it.
    What's the difference between a booster and a super-booster?

They still work at Paragon Studios, just not on City of Heroes (well, Positron is working on the end game, but when he was taken off lead developer he also gained new, nebulous, duties.) Unless Paragon Studios is working on another project that everyone is aware of, I'd say all signs point to "City of Heroes 2."
Which, as I said, is 'speculation'; when they put out a press-release saying "we're making CoH2", then it will be news.

    Fixed.

Last I'd heard was they'd registered the name - this is just as likely to stop someone else making a game with the name - I've not seen any 'news' announcing CoH2.

..and I just googled to see if I'd missed it, so if you have a link to the announcement, please share!

It sounds good, but the problem with that is you're shifting the responsibility to someone else - putting your powers under the control of someone else's judgement.

Going back to Rorschach being an example of the vigilante taken to the logical conclusion (the one-man judge, jury, executioner) another character from Watchmen shows the other extreme, the hero who is government sanctioned, working within the law, taking orders - The Comedian; this guy really doesn't have a moral compass, he doesn't need one, someone else tells him what to do, who to kill.

As soon as the powers that be learned of this amazing cop who was bullet-proof, or that soldier who could shoot lasers from his eyes, they'd be re-assigned faster than you could say 'shady government conspiracy'.

I think the government-sanctioned route has the potential to be far worse.
  10. I'd have to dispute that Rorschach sails blind without a moral compass - he's very moral, he just doesn't let the law get in the way of justice.

Living in a country where a serial burglar was finally jailed after commiting over 600 offences, and convicted murderers & rapists are regularly released only to offend again, I'd have to go vigilante.

What I'd actually do with that would depend on the power level - if I were an average B class cape, I'd be dropping murderers into mine shafts, but if I were A+ 'Superman' level, I'd be confiscating nukes and dropping them into the sun.

Unbelievable. I got negative rep for this comment "for not being funny"!

I just want to point out to the muppet who wrote that, that "it wasn't a joke"; I was saying I haven't seen the button because I don't have reason to use the Global list.

I recently moved to the NA servers because all my friends had left CoH in the EU. I admit to being billy-no-mates and someone decides to punish me by taking almost a quarter of my forum rep off me?

    Nice!

I'm busy, and I don't like turning down polite requests to team (I ignore the "r u lft?" and such entirely, but if it's polite and I don't want to join I'll at least respond) so I just preemptively avoid them. I also tend to hide on Freedom because most invites I get there tend to be of the "r u lft?" variety.

If I'm base editing I hide from everything, since I don't keep my chat window up, I'll miss the tell noise if I have my sound turned off to listen to music, and I don't want my friends to think I'm ignoring them.
All of this - and since half the time I'm on I don't know if I'll have to leave any minute, I avoid teaming in those times. Ditching a team 5 minutes into a mission is not cool; the rest of the time I'm desperate for a team!

I don't even know if there's a way of opening the Hide option box without typing "/hide" - I learnt that on the forum - does anything in-game tell you how to do it? It's been years since I read any of the instructions.

I'm probably a 50/50 hider, so statistically meaningless...*sigh* story of my life.
  17. They look a bit broken to me.

My benchmark for those type of legs has always been Nemesis the Warlock - especially Kev O'Neil's original and Bryan Talbot's slightly more realistic rendering.

I'm having trouble finding a Talbot, but here's a good example of O'Neil:
    http://www.2000adonline.com/2000ad/m...iginal/230.jpg

    /edit
Still can't find a Talbot image, but I stumbled across this sculpture of the character which seems to capture the essence of what I think works in the legs:
    http://i36.tinypic.com/favo0y.jpg

Going back to one of the earlier posts where you show a diagram with the leg split into 3 equal lengths - Nemesis and the image above have it more the way I think of it - with the central section much shorter. The angle looks wrong in the image above though where the lower knee (the ankle) is at the same level as or slightly higher than the upper knee.

It's probably fair to say the thing I like most about the Nemesis legs is the elegance - the tapering - they look like horse legs rather than dog legs (although those do taper a lot in real life too) or traditional over-muscled werewolf legs; if I use the monstrous legs at all, I never use the large ones.

I just rescued Peter Kent from the Circle of Thorns... I couldn't shake the strange feeling that he didn't really need my help.
  19. It would be nice if they could apply this 'error' to all NA accounts sitting in the same master account with a EU account.

I miss my base TP vet reward over on Virtue.

    Pinnacle
Those look fine to me - but then I don't mind the @global in Champions Online as you can choose not to show it.

In the absence of a CO-style 'you can have any name you like even if someone has taken it' policy (which I like, but I know some people object to because they want to be unique), I'd like to see regular name purges - regular as in automatically applied; something like this:

Didn't activate that trial that lapsed 2 months ago? Name purge
Haven't paid for the last 3 months? Name purge up to level 10
Haven't paid for the last 6 months? Name purge up to level 20
...etc, increasing all the way to level 50.

By 'name purge' I'm thinking more like 'name unlocks/becomes available for someone else' so if you come back after a year or two there's a chance you'll still have it.

As a new player especially, spending the best part of an hour crafting a look only to find the name you wanted and everything you can think of that is similar is long gone, is very frustrating and a turn-off.

I assumed you wouldn't be able to visit Praetoria once you'd left...but I've already seen where my assumptions got me in this thread.

I'd forgotton all about the Incarnate system; struggling happily in the 20's on Virtue instead of standing around on a 50 on Union or Defiant made the whole end-game thing less pressing I guess.

But that might alo work the other way around form some of the Resistance - if they've sepnt their lives trying to overthrow one Marcus Cole, they mightn't be too enthusiastic to go to a place where another Marcus Cole has a lot of influence.

Ah okay, that makes perfect sense.

I didn't realise the 'switching sides' stuff was entirely separate from the 'alternate world' stuff in GR, but that was a pretty good explanation as to why it's so - damn you and your logic!

On the plus side it means I'd be able to enjoy the experience instead of trying to play the system to get a Brute blue-side!

It sounds a bit pointless if you can side with Tyrant and then choose to be a Hero.
