Thanks everyone for the suggestions. After reading everything I decided to go with Elec Armor, seemed like that came highly recommended next to Inv and Fire, both of which I don't find interesting. For attacks I went with StJ. Mainly because I've not had the opportunity to play with it much yet.
Thanks again for all the great suggestions!

Quote:God I hope so. With any luck the posters of said stories will be good story tellers as well and we'll have a fun time reading about other people's exploits. If people use the thread to pat their own backs about things that happened in game that seemed awesome to them at the time, good on them. I'd like to enjoy those stories as well, be they good, bad or something in between. Heck, I even dusted the soapbox for everyone by starting a second thread. Some stories could be "I got scrapper lock, done the charge of the light brigade and everyone died around me as a result so then I was last man standing and fortunately got to kill whats left. Go me" *Jumps up waving pom poms* (Self cheerleading for the win).
Personally I hope that the Defenders that come here get some enjoyment out of this thread, if it teaches them something too, then so be it. But it's here to be fun.
Fun, that's all, really. Just Fun. -

I've set a personal goal for myself, one 50 of each Base AT. Now, that turns out easier said than done, I've done a Blaster, Brute, Controller, Defender, 2 Domi (Domii?), Scrapper, a corrupter well on the way (47), a Stalker not far behind (45). That leaves, MM and Tankers.
I come to you oh master Tankers and ask for suggestions as to what power sets as a tank give a fun 1-50 experience. (i'm not looking for the 'best' sets, just something fun, as I've never managed to take a tank past lvl25)
Thanks in advance,

Quote:He closed it because in the end it got ugly, this isn't defiance, it's tribute to a very enjoyable thread that went awry. As I recall, Moderator 09 encouraged us to start new threads:Well now this thread might need to be locked...looks like you're trying to defy a mods decision to close the topic by bringing up the previous thread in the OP and naming it the same thing.
Quote:We would also like to kindly remind you all to not ressurect dead threads, however we encourage you to start new threads for such topics. If nessasary, please link to the previous thread.

In homage to Dech's thread, which I found very enjoyable, I'm going to start another one of these. Now, hopefully with Freedom, a new influx of returning and green heroes joins us in Paragon City. Having said that, I want to make it known that 'Scrapperlock' can be enjoyed by not only Scrappers, but by /any/ AT. If I were to define 'Scrapperlock' I would define it as:
Scrapperlock
skrap-er-lok
1. A moment of complete digital zen with one's character to which any obstacle in game, insurmountable or not, seems like a 'good idea' at the time.
Sadly, the original thread was locked but is still available here:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=188316
Now, let's amuse each other with stories of grand success, miserable failure, ear shattering guffaws and embarrassed chuckles. I'll start off with a non-ITF story:
I'd never truly suffered the full effects of scrapperlock until just a couple of weeks ago after rolling a DM/EA Scrapper. After a couple of runs through the sewers a friend of mine called me over to play through a 0/4 Midnighter's arc. Well, the first mission or two went really well, Me on my lvl16 Scrapper and my friend on her lvl25 Controller. Then we got to the mission with Ms. Suicide herself, Lady Jane. There's one part of the cave, I can't quite remember where on the map, but it's comes to a "T" and at either mouth of the adjoining tunnel sat a mob, along with a third mob no to far off. Well, there's the setup, all we needed was the Catalyst... oh, wait, we had it... in the form of Ms. Suicide. Pretty soon I'm wading in a sea of spooks, wizards and demons and, like a good Sk'd lvl16 scrapper I faceplant to the hordes of nasties around me, but not without taking some with me. Leaving my poor friend with 3 mobs of uglyness to deal with.
So, there left in my tray was this little light blue beacon of hope... a rezzie... I look at the mob, mere feet away and figured 'what the heck' and popped it. Through some miracle of rng luck /none/ of the baddies noticed me while I was drunkenly wobbling off to one side, and as /soon/ as I could, I turned and jumped back into the frey, both green and blue bars near bottom.
Well, it didn't take long for my Controller partner to bottom out and turn into a skull on my team readout. But all I could do was swing...Swing...SWING... Popping every inspiration as it dropped I waded through what seemed like countless dozens of nasty kritters. Everyone of them focused on showing me the business end of a hospital gurney. Somewhere in the fight, my friend popped a wakie, but I just kept swinging. Finally, after a blur of what had to be 15 minutes or more of nonstop wading through fodder the last Circle minion dropped to my fists.
Jane ran to my side and waited... and for a brief moment it all was silent. It wasn't until the 'buh-blip' of team chat going off brought me out of my zen, that my eyes shot to my health and endurance, both of which were near full. It was only then that I looked at chat to see:
"Holycrap... T that was amazing..."
yeah, it was, to say the least. Please, post your stories of Scrapperlock, and take a moment to enjoy he feats of those that have experienced this state.
Thanks for listening,

Quote:It does... I stand corrected (I'd forgotten to update mids after the last patch). Since that's the case, i'd take one slot out of Howling twilight and one out of Darkest night and put them into fade with rech IOs. I'd replace the set in Howling with a Hami-o (Nucleolus Exposure) and put the Proc from Deflated Ego in Darkest Night. You may want to update your mids, Fade was changed to a 60 second duration with 210 second base recharge, which can be permad.
That gives fade a 1.72 second down-time, accuracy to Howling twilight, and a recovery debuff to darkest night. I'd agree with the Agility in the Alpha... best of both worlds there.
Anyway, that's my .02 ... hope it helps.

Quote:After not using them for years I slotted them on a SS/Dark Brute after trying tons of things to solve his end issues. The difference was insane. I use them on almost every build now, especially the perf shifter ... one awesome combo is a perf shifter & 2 energy manipulators. Good recovery for 3 slots.I've never used the numinas / perf shifter (although I have sold hundreds on the auction house...lots of nice money there), as I don't really know how they work. Are they a lot better than just slotting stamina?
Glad you like the changes. It's a tight build to begin with...i just prefer not being hit to resisting a hard hit. -
Quote:Stone armor helps quite a bit.. I changed your build around and turned off Fade as it's only got a 15 second up-time every 75 seconds, leaving you with roughly a minute to defend yourself without it's benefit. Otherwise it's a very good build... oh, and a personal favorite trick of mine, a perf shifter +end proc in endurance, numina's proc in health and a theft of essence +end proc in Twilight's grasp. I tried the Primal forces mastery... but I really didn't like the lack of defense I was left with in the end. (personal preference there anyway)My goals are:
Softcapped defences (ideally vs incarnate)
High damage resistance
Decent healing (twilight grasp / soul absorbtion)
I would like mezz resistance, but that is looking hard
An alternative epic power pool I considered was Primal forces, so that I could actually perhaps control the many bosses in high end content, but I don't know if that actually works well, and there is something nice about being a controller, and not being fragile.
This is with stone mastery:

Quote:This build is FAR from perfect, but I threw it together so you could see that it is possible to run those and even more.. this build has:So at one point in time. . . I should be running:
Steamy
Hover
Sprint
Maneuvers
Along with actually setting up attacks and holds? Without running all of those (not to mention where are the slots coming from to slot these up?) I am already always carrying a tray of blues and often making conversions to blues while in the map.
I would love to see a build for this because I just can't see the slotting.
Thanks much all for the help so far.
Steamy
Hover
Sprint
Maneuvers
Combat jumping (redundant i know..but it's proving a point)
Mind over body
World of confusion
Hurricane
all running at an end cost of 1.69/second.
Just because we have sets that give bonuses doesn't mean we should ignore IO enhancements completely... they can be used to good effect if you want them too,
like I said, it's more to prove a point than be effective... so there's lots that could be improved upon I'm sure...

Thunderclap is an awesome power, it has a quick recharge and, foe disorient makes for an awesome oh s#$t power.
Yep, it works awesomely
Quote:- I took Steamy just for the slot to put LotG into it, again, it never gets run.
Quote:- Snow Storm I could totally drop, heh, along with O2 Boost, I never ever ever ever use either.
Quote:- I'm not sure why you would suggest Psi, could you elaborate, I mean sure it would be of minor usefulness against Carnies, but it seems like Conserve Power, Temp Invuln, and Power Boost (if it works like Mids explains it) would be more useful more of the time.

This one took a bit of post work ... I may not keep the boarder in the long run... but FWIW:

Quote:Ya... I rarely get rid of source... I read your post and was like 'i know it is' *dig* took 45 minutes to find it..lol. The other big thing is, I had to flip the screenshot to get it to match the pose.Ahhh, that was why I was confused - the position of the arms in the tailor doesn't show the flames on the sleeves going that high because it rotates them so the flames are at the back!
Thanks for all the kind comments, I'm warming up for an action pic soon, I'll toss that up as soon as I get it finished.

I believe that's the very top and collar of the fire warrior with no sleeves ... been a while though.

Quote:The Skin on the model is a combo photo/digital map, her hair is basically completely digital, plus a little bit of touch up where the fan I had setup made it look a little thin. Thanks for the great feedback! It really helps with the confidence when I get constructive commentsNeato. What medium is that? I mean, I know it's digital, but is it photomanipulation? 3D? An absurdly-detailed painting?
As far as a higher res photo, I rendered it out at something along the 1050x1500, and at 300 pix/in. I'm still working on the boots (really, they're just a place holder until I can get a good textured set together) but here ya go, sans effects:
There's a bit of blur on a couple of spots as I blotched out a bit of spill through... In the final you cant see it because it's been sized down quite a bit. -
ok, so normally I dont post my art (to shy i guess) but my dear spousal unit thumped me on the back of the knoggin and told me I should. Please let me know what you think... I just tossed this together toying with ideas for a final pic.
So, here's My lvl50 mind/psy Domi, Mindwing:

Quote:Thanks for the feedback. When I first built her, she had the medicine pool and I really enjoyed the extra heal abilities from time to time. I've tried the assault and maneuvers, and imho maneuvers would be a waste on a build with so little defenses to begin with. Are you all-in for the medicine pool? It is a combination I never cared for much on /rad, Rad/ buffers. Especially the interruptible feature makes it less impressive. I dare you to try an alternate build with assault and manuvers to compare experiences. I made alternate builds on my rads for pug groups (more fallout/vengeance please
)
I like the power mastery epic powers. Power Build up seems short on slots. I see the high recharge build. Power boosted AM, power boosted lingering radiation, power boosted EM Pulse, oh wait, another discrepancy.I fully understand why EM Pulse is opted out of many builds.
I think you want to stack lingering rad, too. I would squeeze more recharge directly into the build over the 3.75% in the set bonus.
Accelerated Metabolism needs some end mod in there. It's a good quality to boost for the team.
Does the enzyme do anything for the -resist in enervating field? 3 generic endurance reductions would be cheaper.
All the defense debuff, and not a spare slot for achilles heel in irradiate?
I like Rad/Rad defenders. My third defender was Rad/Rad back in the day when they first boosted the toughness of red cons, my defender would street sweep red con bosses. It was death by a thousand cuts, but they always died >
I do have EM Pulse on her other builds, one of which focuses more on offence than anything else, so yes, I can see it's value.
Lingering radiation isn't quite double stackable, but it is perma with a .38 second gap...close enough to perma most will never see it drop..
Yeah, I could drop a EndMod in Accelerate Metabolism, but then i'd loose the 8 second stack I can apply to the team.
I never noticed the debuff proc in Achilles Heel... I might consider dropping a Hamio for that one. But to answer your question, the HamiOs seem to boost the defense debuff and to-hit debuff as well, so it seemed like a good choice at the time... dropping one would lower the percentages to something like 33% Defense Debuff and 22% To-hit Debuff.
The build seems to be fairly End Stable, and If i do my numbers right, Pre-Incarnate heals are going to be around 3600 hp/minute if I do nothing but spam RA, post Incarnate (T4) closer to 4200 hp/minute. Honestly, I'm not even sure if that's good... it comes out to something like 60-72 hp/second regen... it sounds good but I'm fairly new to the number crunching game for heals too...
Thanks again for the advice. -
Years ago, I leveled a Rad/Rad to 50. The endurance issues and poor performance prompted me to put her down and pretty much let her lie for a couple of years. But, she was my second 50 and first Hero Fifty, so I now pop onto her from time to time and try to fix what was a massively -horrible- build.
I don't expect her to ever get the damage output of my other toons, nor do I even want to go that route with her, I'd much rather take her down the healer path. By no means a dedicated healer...cos i have every intention of using the attacks she has, but a -really- good healer.
To that end, I turn to everyone here with more defender experience than I have, check this build and tell me what you think. I've tried a couple of new things for me like totally forgoing defenses for the most part and building for speed. And, i'm not totally sure if the 2 HamiOs I used are good or not either (HamiOs seem to be a confusing thing for me...donno why...but anyway, that's besides the point).
For simplicity's sake, I've turned off the Incarnate slots she has open, but for those curious I currently in game have fitted:
Alpha: Vigor Radial Boost
Interface: Degenerative Interface
Judgement: Vorpal Judgement
Thanks in advance everyone!

Quote:This. This demonstrates a pretty dramatic lack of understanding for how this game works. If you want to be a good tank, you layer any mitigation types you can get, end of discussion. Building for Resistance versus Building for Resistance and Defense always leans towards the latter because you end up with the same resistance values on a good build but also get hit anywhere from 40-90% less frequently.
DA/* requires layering your defenses. If you don't you die...horribly. And more so than most others. Sure, you've got high resists, but they wont do you squat good when you get nailed /every/ time something swings at you.
Better yet... let me link this... by the defensive Messiah himself Dechs Kaison:
http://dechskaison.blogspot.com/2011...important.html
That article alone taught me tons about defenses...
Anyway, Good luck.

Just a note, I have a KM/FA/Fire Master with a 'at range build' that does rather well. High Recharge does wonders with Repulsing Torrent, Focused Burst, Fire Blast and Fire Ball. Throw in Char and Her Judgement, she can do fairly well at range. She's no blaster, but on a team of blasters i can semi-fit in.

The easiest way to post a build for all to see is to export the build to your clipboard with the "Only export Data Chunk" option checked, once that's done you can paste it and get something like what's below. Then all we have to do is copy, load up Mids, and then import from clipboard. (and yeah, this is for a KM/FA...not a very good build...but i was playing around)
| Copy & Paste this data into Mids' Hero Designer to view the build |
