    Operation MA 50

    [ QUOTE ]
Problem is that when you try to plug every hole, you will hurt the normal players. The only way to stop these types is to completely remove the competitive thing from the game. Which would make the game rather boring.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Only if you are really bad at finding reasonable solutions to problems, by your argument any form of algorith /rule /code debugging is silly. I'm not going to use examples from PC games because it's obvious that for some people any tampering is bad, however I can give table top RP examples, 3rd edition D&D had numerous problems with both the Harm spell and Hasten spell, I was using my own house rules for both of those spells that turned out to be very close to the rules concerning these spells that where published in 3.5 edition. I don't think I harmed my players in any way by doing that, you could say it was a nerf I was doing there, but I think everyone benefited from it.

    Operation MA 50

    [ QUOTE ]
Same with this. You can't patch enough to make them stop. They ALWAYS find new holes to exploit. The patches only hurt the good players, not the bad.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So your suggestion is to leave the MA as is and let people level like mad from 1 to 50 in a day if they want to?

PS: Don't know what kind of game you're running in your table top group, but when I have a player like that in a game I'm running, I keep changing the rules he abuses, if a rule is broken, fix it, that's your damn job as the GM. If he doesn't like it, get a different player.
  3. [ QUOTE ]

You're playing the same WoW as i do? Seems not.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Which part do you disagree with? The fact that WoW is designed with loads of endgame content or the fact that WoW developers would address a game breaking situation very fast?
  4. PLing to the extremes we are witnessing now is game breaking, especially so for a game like CoX where end game content is scarse.

In WoW it would not be so bad, since as some old players will tell you "The game starts at 80 (or 70 pre WotLK, or 60 pre TBC)". Even in WoW I think that the dev team would be scrambling to correct such an extreme PLing tactic as what is offered currently by abusing the xp reward from certain mobs.

    Operation MA 50

By the way, some people may have noticed me defending the MA with passion these past few days. I don't defend or denny the farming being done, this is an abuse of MA and what it can offer, also it's killing the transaction balance.

However I do believe that the basic set up for MA is correct, giving xp and influence. What should be done is fix abuses of the system as they come, like the current issue with comms officers, idealy these solutions should not be heavy handed like removing the offending mob, but something more subtle, also they should be a damn lot faster in implementation.
  6. [ QUOTE ]
The game hasn't really fallen apart. There's a just a difference in opinion of the direction that it's been taken in recently.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes some players agree with the direction it has taken while others don't. This has caused considerable friction and some of the more post heavy users of these boards leaving.

Personaly I think that if the devs fix the MA in a smart way, the game will flourish.
  7. After reading some of the suggestions on how to deal with MA, I am so [censored] glad none of you lot are designing this game. Seriously, no offense meant.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
Hmm is there any way certain mobs can have lowered XP in MA form without reducing their XP outside of the MA.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If that can happen, it will be bloody awesome.

    PS: Three days to go...
  9. [ QUOTE ]
kill the game yourself as your stop people play the way they want to play

    [/ QUOTE ]
I'm a huge fan of the MA, best feature to enter CoX after release by far. However I do agree that the current situation is tragic, I tried some of the smarter farming missions and leveled like crazy. I am not sure about killing the game but I do think it's harming it,

What I do find ludicrous is that people are talking about how the Devs will come in with the chainsaw and most of the solutions I am seeing suggested here have a very clear chainsaw component. All they need to do to fix the current problem is sort out the XP certain mobs give, make it the same as other mobs -and- put a more reasonable limit to how many hostages one mission can have. If another problem arises sort that out as it comes.

    Sister Flame

    [/ QUOTE ]
Woah, that was an instant cure alright
Wonder how Sister Flame is doing a year later.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
Furthermore loads of other long-term players have got bored of CoX before now and have left and returned (some loads of times) without any kind of forum drama, and they returned because the game is great.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This needs to be stressed, I take breaks from CoX all the time, mostly playing different things in parellel with it, even when I left furious at the game and for the first and only time since august 2004 I was without a CoX account, I did not make a post or drama about it. When the situation was ractified and the offending problem was solved I came back without fanfare.

I am damn sure I am not unique in this.

    Oh, the irony...

That was an interesting read, and I think that while Emmert might be a swell guy, he still doesn't get it.

    [ QUOTE ]
Worry about the players you've got. Don't worry about the players you don't have. You are what you are at launch

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is cow manure, if we stick to this kind of logic, LotRo would have died off, AoC might never rise from the ashes and CoX would have died a couple of years ago or dwindled down to maybe 50000 subs.

MMOs can slowly and subtly change their nature and fix mistakes in original design, you just need to do it carefully and retain what originally enticed your core players. LotRo has done this very well, WoW keeps shifting feeling it's way. On the other hand SWG killed it's own game, instead of fixing it's mistakes it turned the whole game on it's head and tottaly killed a lot of it's player base.

I think CoH is somewhere in the middle, a lot of the changes could have been done more subtly and with more polish, however they needed to be done, without ED the game was ridiculously easy, without PvP and IOs all you could ever do in the game is keep leveling different chars. I'm gratefull for all these changes, and even more so for the inclusion of MA.

    I15: Forum Improvement

    [/ QUOTE ]

    You're a funny *******.

Goodbye FFM, have fun in whatever you do.
  14. Still here, I'm very excited about the MA and all it's offered me so far. I do wish there was some new character power options coming with I15 but that's just because I've been playing this game since August 2004, it still offers the most character options to any MMO I know.
  15. 100% agreement with what Dr_Toerag says, I especially like the rampant bigotry towards Americans. Good show CoX community.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
    (DCUO will be bigger)

    [/ QUOTE ]

DCUO seems to suffer even more from consolitis, judging from the vids I've seen so far. I find it even more irrelevant then CO. Could be dead wrong of course, only when we see finished products we will know.
  17. BrightEyes_EU

    To much farming

They where farming levels before in Peregrine Isle, I don't think with IOs or PVP the request to join farming missions rose. Heck I remember joining a farming team back in 2004, it was in the sewers. Speaking of sewers, farming the hydra back in early 2005 comes to mind.
  18. There are two reasons I aint worried about CO, first and most importantly Miller > Emmert. I'ld rather have a car that drives around then one that breaks down while trying to get to the moon.

Second, CO is being designed for XBox as well as PC, I think that's bound to make it suck in certain ways as it's trying to be playable on both platforms.
  19. @Dr_HR

City of Heroes has been praised by various magazines for how accessible the Dev team is to the players, and that fits with my own experience when I compare it to every other MMORP I played over the years. The one exception is WoW which communicates relatively well why they make certain changes to the game, but that's WoW.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
You've been playing for 3 years without a break? No wonder you feel jaded. Too much of a good thing will feel stale quickly.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Now that I'll QFT. Breaks are good for you, if you love the game that much, just keep your subscription going while you take a break, that's what I do.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
I don't think I'm alone in this (but it's my opinion, so feel free to correct me) but I can't help feeling that the MA has left a lot of people feeling a bit "meh" about the game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not everyone agrees with you, no suprises there. I'm more curious on what the ratio of people going "meh" to people going "woah!". The number of people online and playing the game seems to favour the later.
  22. [ QUOTE ]
though their initially 'it's only for RPers' complaint has proved completely wrong (it's not for RPers, it's for farmers)

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think it aint for RPers or farmers, evident by how many people who use it don't belong to either group.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
Most of my friends are basically looking at CO as an alternative to CoX. An alternative with many features that CoX doesn't have right now.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    What features?

Also modified engine still means same core engine that something similar can and I believe will be implemented in CoH
  24. [ QUOTE ]

In-short, On the eve of the competition arriving, Paragon Studios should be doing everything to take points away from Champions-Online and introduce systems and features they hold to be unique about their product, that combined with revamping the visual look and sound of the game will ensure it stays ahead. Not listening to suggestions we've been asking for for years, or thinking the product has enough heritage to attract new subscribers without a shiney revamp will (I fear) ensure it doesnt.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I've been avoiding entering this argument, mostly because I really can't grasp how people can complain about this feature, but then again I can't understand how people can still complain about PvP and on the same breath talk about how CoH needs to remain competitive.

The bolded statement pretty much sums up my argument. Personally I think the MA is the most interesting thing to be added to CoH since inventions, and it tops that easily in novelty and coolness factor.

That said I do agree that it would help the games survivability considerably if they upgrade the graphics somehow. I have seen nothing to indicate that this is not in their plans already.

PS: The Champions graphics are not so much better then what CoH allready has, they use the same engine for [censored] sake, an engine originaly created back in 2000.

    Returning.

Welcome back Golden Angel, and I actually do remember you, even your costume. I found it fit the character concept perfectly.
