I find the overall patronising wording of these replies to be Lame.

    Need I go on?

Edit: What CoH was originally created to be is mostly irrelevant. What it IS now is important. Because, frankly, what it WAS was Jack's little pet project domain where what he said was Law and everyone had to damn well like it. Not so these days...Thankfully.
I never heard valid. I heard "to many of fantasy setting being the norm in game"

It's not that it isnt valid, it's that it seems to be what the majority go for.

Obviously you need some reading comprehension classes. Not what he said. He said more along the lines, "Totally came to the wrong game, if you think that's lame."

That's exactly what CoH was created to be.

Yes, you already mentioned Thor. Thor is a Norse God. The Norse, in case you were ignorant somehow, tend to revolve less around super powers and more on swords, axes and generally being walking bad@ss. Like...hmn...fantasy flavoured!

So, really, all of your post boils down to 100% opinion. Which, while fine, doesn't give you any damn right to poo-poo what other people do or do not like in game.

Personally? I find spandexy super heroes for the most part incredibly ******* LAME.
Superman? Put your damn pants on the INSIDE and...yeah, I'm sorry, I just can't stand the big blue boy scout.
Pre-changes, Captain America tended to look like a bit of an idiot, too. Now that he's got a few revamps he looks a bit less stupid. That and, well, I like his character a lot more.

You probably don't agree with me. That's fine; all the above is my opinion.
But I'm also not trying to foist my opinion on others and act like it's 'right'. The more the better, so why NOT add more options for EVERYONE?
The funny thing...you came to a superhero game and think it's "incredibly ******* LAME"

No really. I find it funny. You came to a game based on playing comic book superheroes and then say it's lame.

Yup, I know that's what gets me to play games. I look at it, think the subject matter is lame and then totally want to pay a monthly fee to play it! \o/

Don't let the way CoH is now fool you. It was created to be a superhero MMO. It even said as much on the website untill less than two years ago when it changed it to "Be a hero!"

This doesn't mean you can't mix a few things, but the really funny part of it all...anime style doesn't stop anything from being superheroes. It's a style of art work. Warren Ellis can pull off manga style artwork and still do a superhero story. It's about the look more than anything.

And that image of Bass_Awkwards character...it is AWESOME! But the poster had a point in that it looks more WoW and less superhero comic.

It's similar to the decision to not give Stalkers Titan Weapons.

It's a shame, because Shield has some interesting powers that no other defense powerset has. It's also not a very big deal, since there's just enough overlap that you can approximate it well enough by taking SR or Energy and throwing in Spring Attack.
It wasn't a themetic reason, or at least it wasn't mainly a themetic reason, it was because it can't be done with the current way character models are setup.

You want more offense, take the two-handed weapon. More defense, take the shield.

But in City, Shield is actually one of the better offensive defense powersets. And in the most direct comparison you can make of Broadsword and Katana, Katana isn't any stronger than Broadsword. It's arguably slightly better because it's faster, but only slightly. And Shield isn't any better or worse than other defense sets that don't require you to give up a hand for it.

So there's no real balance reason to pick sword and board over a two-hander in City. It makes the current limitations weird. A Broadsword/Shield scrapper has more offense (and possibly more defense) than a Katana/SR, but you can't do Katana/Shield. Why? ...Cuz.

I think I'd be in favor of the option where you can choose a two-hander weapon, you just won't get a shield, and the defense set will just be a general aura thing like every other defense set. Right now, the only reason there's any limitations at all is cosmetic.
You can make a Katana/Shield user!

Broadsword has a Katana weapon skin!

Granted, the general 'suspension of disbelief' of the superhero genre means that any and all of that are valid ideas here.

I have this great superhero-y idea for a telekinetic weapons-master that dual-wields titan weapons with his mind while using a shield to protect himself and I won't be satisfied with the devs until they stop preventing me from playing the character I want to play.
And yet people get upset at those of us who want to play Dual Pistols/Defensive Set characters, and claim it doesnt make sense.

Will it get a buff then because what would be the point of using hide and AS when you can just do superior damage while unhidden and still have a chance to critical due to AF?
Because they just arent survivable, and do less damage.

And this buff is more about upping their damage than really adding to their survival.

Yeah, the buff to Max HP is nice, but only for the WP, IA, and Regen Stalkers. The others won't notice this buff. This is a buff that only helps sets with +HP powers, that were basically going to waste, as accolades and +HP from set bonuses got you to the cap prety much.

With this buff, my KM/WP Scrapper wouldn't even hit the HP cap, but instead be over1800 (below 1900), and that was an expensive build.

Of course, with this change, I might have actually slotted up HPT So, could maybe have reach 1900 (I dont think 2k would of been hit). But the Regens and IA users should hit the 2k mark nicely with their Dull Pain/Hoarfrost.

But personally, I was okay with the less survival, I wanted more damage! And it was lacking when compared to my WP Scrapper, who also beat it in survival.
  10. I wouldn't mind Escrima Sticks.

It would add a nice non-lethal assuming powerset.
  11. I want new better dance emotes!

I also want Karatedance TWO, where it's Karatedance but just the part where they dance with the elbows up!
  12. I was thinking more like this!

Which was the movie I watched

Expire? You mean, pass out? When they start breathing again?
  14. Personally, I love Jump Kicks animation

Combat Jumping is always useful on almsot every build.

And Spring Attack may not be some uber attack, but it's total LOVE!

If Super Jump had an alternate animation to match Ninja Run, Id be in love the Jump Pool. Currently, I hate Super Jump as it makes me think my character is jumping like the Hulk or Pitt.
  15. You know, Im surpised people consider it poor taste to use a whole costume set, and as Sam put it "lack of creativity" when maybe that's what they've envisioned fromt he start.

That said, no, Ive never used a whole set on one character. I mix and match. In fact, even though I buy the whole packs/bundles, Ive tended to only use one or two pieces out of the whole set.
  16. they need to just make a set of bubble armor, that plays exactly like shields, but allows people to pair up all offense sets.

That's what it really comes down to. It's not that it has to make sense to most people. It's that Shields is a fun set that's also considered awesome.

Really, I don't even think the OP cares about concept (could be wrong), I think it's come down to wanting [Primary that does this] paired with [Shields that do this].
  17. So, got to thinking...Chainsaw Melee...hmmm...then I watched a movie!

Give chainsaws as an alternate weapon skin for Claws! Maybe they can even be animated and actually spinning when extended!
  18. Hmmm...I know one of those MM's was a friend of mine, but now I have to wonder if she changed the name of her MM!

    *She was the thugs MM*

The synergy is that it stops one from needing to redraw to use powers. Something many players (not all) do not care for. Not to mention the KD/KU from TW allows WP to get breathing room for the regeneration.

Then there's just the fact that some people just want to worry about hitting those attack buttons and not so much on survival.

And a comparison I want to make, because when I looked at the Titan Weapons numbers - the scale damage numbers - I was a big... Schocked, for lack of a better word.

Let's start with Defensive Sweep. That's scale 0.729, which isn't a lot, but it's not very little, either. Your typical "light" damage attack is scale 0.64, so this is stronger AND it has the recharge and cost of a small attack. Not quite, but close.

Crushing Blow is what surprised me first. That's scale 1.804. These are Disembowel numbers, even if Disembowel itself is at 1.9. I get Disembowel at level 1 with Titan weapons.

Then there's Titan Sweep. That's scale 1.429, and listed as "heavy," which it is. A typical heavy attack - like Broadsword's Hack - is 1.64, so close. Whirling Sword is 1.0 and Slice is 1.23, so I get a stronger Slice with more range.

Then there's Follow Through at 2.156. That's above Disembowel levels and reaching for Head Splitter levels, and I get that at level what? 8? Yikes! Hell, Follow Through is about on the same level of damage as Power Burst.

Then there's Rend Armour at 3.212. Broadsword doesn't have anything even remotely close. The biggest single attack Broadsword has access to is Head Splitter at 2.6. Rend Armour is a stone's throw away from Total Focus damage.

Then there's Whirling Smash. At 1.15 scale damage, it's not that much, but it's still more than Whirling Sword AND has about double the range - 15 for Whirling Smash to 7 or 8 for Whirling Sword.

Finally, there's Arc of Destruction at 2.596, which is almost identical to Head Splitter, only with a much larger area of coverage. Head Splitter is at 2.6 scale damage with a 10-foot, 19-degree cone while Arc of Destruction is almost the same damage with a 10-foot, 120 degree arc.

Honestly, these numbers scare me a little bit. I'm not sure how these numbers are could be set so high, but I guess momentum as a balancing mechanic is the reason, especially given Synapse's feedback in Beta. I think this may well be the first time that a gimmick has vastly improved a set, or at most the second time, if we count Street Justice. I remember sets like Dual Pistols and Shield Defence who had to pay a price for their gimmick, and yet Titan Weapons seems to have benefited a great deal for its.

And it's not "just numbers," either. I've been playing this set on Live and I played it on Beta, and it's pretty much the strongest a character of mine has ever been put over, or if it isn't the strongest I haven't seen that in years. Single-target damage, which I was initially worried about, is no problem. The set has such huge single-target burst I have trouble transcribing it, plus Defensive Sweep is cheap enough to use as single target to fill in an attack chain. AoE is even better, and I don't even have Arc of Destruction yet. With Momentum, this set can deliver a LOT of AoE damage, and with those huge cones, doing so has never been easy. Sure, it's still hard-locked by the 5-target limit, but I can't imagine how broken this set would be without that limit. It's amazing even with it.

I'm starting to worry it's making the rest of the melee sets look bad.
I think its more of just that it suprises you they introduced a new set and made it a top tier set (which TW is looking to be) instead of introducing a new set which many consider to be a middle of the road set.

Which is what many of the newer sets have been considered up to this point...middle of the road. They might be nice anyways, but they werent a top new set.

    BrandX's Art!

Here's an older sketch done by the same artist of another one of my alts (now kind of retired for various IC reasons, buuuut, she was a blast to RP)...Princess Relena! A Catgirl Fairy Princess Vampire!

Yeah, sounds silly, but she was taken rather seriously untill I toned her down (>_> Whew, the complaints about her violence to baddies!)

It's due to the changes that I don't see why they don't just turn Rend Armor into the Assassin Strike, since it can still be used as a (suppossedly) awesome ST attack in I22.

Also, they need to make TW's Placate animation like Taunt, except with a hand wave (keep the weapon slung over the shoulder!)
  23. BrandX

    Scrapper ATIO?

Still makes me sad. Should just make it a straight 2.5 increase to Defense or 2.5/1.5 Typed vs Positional.
  24. As someone who wants anime pieces I can tell you I wouldn't mind some more superhero pieces.

Part of my thought on it though, is that it'll never happen!

I've requested simple pieces like, taking the "Disco" option and removing the short shrts portion of it and replacing it with a bikini bottom, so we can match up the "Disco" piece with tights option.

Take the "Padded Gloves" option, and give it SLEEVES so that using "Padded Gloves" doesn't leave you with a sleeves to your elbows and the forearms showing.

And non painted on mask? YES PLEASE! I wouldn't mind taking all the small mask options, giving them some real detail, and giving them the white eye treatment ala Batman, Nightwing, Robin (especially with the domino masks)
