Quote:Seeing as how the best DPS chain for Dark Melee is Smite > MG > Smite > SL > Repeat, I dont see why those chains wouldn't work.OMG, can we get *someone* to do some math for this? I mean, I can try but I most likely may screw some numbers up...
So let's just take the 'opener with BU window' scenario...so 8 seconds.
A. Assassin's Eclipse (hidden, 3sec animation) > Smite > Midnight Grasp > Siphon Life > Smite (lol no idea if that little chain is even possible or how much recharge)
And B. Midnight Grasp > Smite > Siphon Life > Assassin's Eclipse (unhidden 1sec animation, 3 AF so 100% crit) > Shadow Punch > Smite
Base values, no slotting, not counting for base crit values, only the sure-fire crits, A = around 800 points of damage and a demoralize effect during that chain. B = around 880 points of damage with no demoralize. Even if that last smite in B can't fit in, that's still around 810 dmg, around equal, really.
Demoralize *ISN'T* that valuable to make or break this deal.
My math may be off, but I can feel that, no matter how you cut it, *not* starting with AS will be more overall damage, not to mention it's plain simple. My beef with this is, Stalker's premiere style and tactics involve using Placate and/or pushing out that AS at the start. These changes make that *inferior* to just jumping at the foe and mashing buttons.
Siolfir? Somebody? Can you do some math?
Me going by feel alone, I get the impression that:
-Placate > AS will be a hinderance and a poor use of AS.
-AS from hide will only be, at most, equivalent to just using a high powered ST attack (and most likely inferior to just using an AoE)
-Using BU with hidden AS will not be worth it either.
That's 3 little dibbets of Stalker made obsolete rather than improved upon...
as for the rest of it. Opening with Assassin Strike from the hidden state will be the best DPS.
Using Placate + Assassin Strike is also some of the best DPS. In theory. The problem with the theory is that in content where you'd want to make use of this, you're either being hit by many enemies (regular PvE) so Placate isn't helping much (this is also going on the thinking that you're not softcapped), when surrounded by enemies placate the one, then get hit by the other and lose the hidden status.
Now, for ST DPS against the hard targets, Placate doesn't work as well, they tend to see through hidden status, even softcapped, they have a better than 5% chance to hit you, and usually they do something to make Placate + Assassin Strike fail period.
At least in my experience with a softcapped KM/WP. Placate + Assassin Strike may be the most awesome of DPS potential and burst damage in one 1-2 power combo, but it's also END intensive, and if it fails to deliver you lost a lot of time and end for nothing, while messing up your DPS that would of been better served by just continuing to scrap it out.
Really, the lack of AOE in some stalker sets isn't a problem imo. Yes, compared to Scrapper counterparts, Stalkers have less, but there's Stalker sets with lots of AOE if the player wants to go purely for AOE (Spines and ELM have lots of AOE, and come i22, I think we may just see even more ELM Stalkers as ELM wis already considered best on Stalkers, now it'll be even better).
With todays setup, I just don't see Stalkers being able to one shot as many enemies as people seem to be thinking Stalkers should be able to do.
I think making the Stalkers go become the best at Burst and ST DPS is the best way to go for the Stalker AT. How they go about it is a different story all together! But I do agree with others that gimmick + gimmick + gimmick + gimmick, just seems to be bad

Time/Sonic Defender!
Gives you the pretty graphics you love and really Time Manip can fit so many different themes that doesn't even include the ability manipulate time (I have one concept who uses Time Manip as a Telekinesis ability).
Sonic gives the deathly wail, kill bosses, AOE is an afterthought! -
Quote:On a melee AT I don't take all day killing stuff.I dont know about you but I would rather not take all day to kill stuff. I hate fighting +4 anything, which is why I do not like the incarnate trials until I get a few level shifts done on a character. The resists issue makes me not even want to play certain characters. I get that for thematic reasons carneis get psi resists and defense but it should not be so much where your character is crippled when you fight them? Then look at the psi issue against robots, true enough they dont have minds but has that ever stopped Jean Grey from doing damage with her mind? It should auto convert most of the psi damage to say smashing or something else.
And we'll just have to disagree. I don't see a problem with their being enemies that take extra work for you to take them down because of your choosen power sets.
You're a PSI user, going up again highly trained PSI users, you're going to have a much harder time against them.
Going up against that mindless robot? Just be glad you can do anything period!
Yes, I think going by concepts is a great idea. And like people have said, if you don't want to go up against them, well there's always sticking to enemies who are really weak to you.
As for Jean Grey, I think that's more of a problem with the PSI sets which are much more based of Telepathy, which no, Jean couldn't use on robots, and less on Telekinesis, which Jean used a lot...so smashing damage!
But I think Psi users only have access to 2 Telekinetic attacks Telekinetic Thrust and Telekinetic Blast. Versus all the other more telepathic style abilities. -
Quote:Because they didn't have time to make the new animations that would be required for Ice Melee to be ported to Stalkers. They even said as much. Not giving Stalkers TW for theumatic reasons lol because this game is so serious and logical... Rrrrright. Anyway, it's not the first time. Why didn't Ice Melee get ported to Stalkers with IA? Why don't brutes have IA? Because of Fury generation?
However, they have Dark Armor which has a stun aura, EA with a stealth, and primary powers that either keep mobs stunned (Stone) or kd (FS) and yet they generate Fury just fine. I never understand the devs logic. Could they just come out and tell us the REAL reason instead of hiding behind ******** lies? Just say it's difficult to port for whatever the real reason is.
Brutes don't have IA because Brutes were different way back when they were introduced.
[Edit: See your forum reg date, so you should know all that
]
Really now, you may have not been around for CoV's intro (I have no idea), but you were likely here for IA's port to Stalkers.
And anyone who frequents the forums should of seen some post on the whole issue with IA and Brutes at some point.
Edit: And seeing your forum reg date now, you should of known all that already known information, instead of acting like it's some big scheme to screw over ATs

Quote:I'd rather they just made the Resists make sense. The newer mobs do not have as insane level of resistance as say crey tankers. The romans definately dont except for the EBs that use unstoppable. Personally what I would love to see is that they finally normalize this by going back and lowering the resists of mobs or either adding more resists but of the other types to make it finally fair. The resistance issue is so bad for me I have to cherry pick certain content because of that.
Armored up! Have high S/L Resist!
What's really so bad about that? -
I have faith it'll be as good as the first!

Quote:If it was that easy to kill them off, it would of happened by nowActually, based on a comment from David Nakayama, or what I can infer from it, the reason Statesman is being killed off is because out of all of them HE'S the one that's supposed to be invincible. The rest of the Phalanx are tough, but storywise, you could kill all of them except Citadel with a bullet to the head, and even Citadel might be forced to shutdown.
Personally, I do agree that it's a bit of a shame that instead of choosing to better write and develop Statesman, they choose to kill him off. But at the same time I understand the reasoning behind it, which is: This guy was a symbol of the pinnacle of power in the game and now he won't be, that's the player's role.
So ironically, Statesman was chosen to die because he is the toughest. But on the plus side, if we look at the guy in a more positive and tragic light, he's earned this, after more than a hundred years of life. A life that has seen him lose countless loved ones and friends, lose the ability to relate to his fellow man, and every day lives in fear that the Well of Furies could take him over and drive him to slaughter everyone for a cheap laugh, he's earned his rest.
Seriously, that's what they were thinking? Bullet to the head? Even witht heir own 99% chance save your life medical transporters?
And for them tohave the player look like the symbol of the pinnacle of power, does this mean no more team content? Because teaming up to take on a group of minions isn't my idea of pinnacle of power.
Yes, doing so for a massive invansion is one thing, but regular hero business? Or not going one on one with an AV! I mean really...taking on an elite boss is a show of power? -
Quote:Saddly, while I may never of had a problem with defeat, I don't know if the mass majority of players agree.I find it fun, too, but only for so long. Then I long for the challenge of the old days of striving to win a TF. I know the new Trials are harder, but I feel like they are harder more due to coordination rather than "who is more powerful" kind of thing. I liked dying and then finally prevailing--it felt like it meant something.
I recall quite well the early days of the ITF and people ragequitting (the TF) because they died to often, or thought it unbeatable.
The 9hour+ ITF, that I assured my team we could beat if we used planning and stuck to it is still one of my favorite moments in the game.
And that was beaten by only 4 remaining members of the team who refused to say "quit" 2 SKs and 2 Mentors (1 50 Tank, 1 50 Troller, and a SKed Troller and SKed Tank).
Even though I admit that's an extreme, I remember many people leaving any ITF that took between 30-90mins.
"We've been at this for 90mins! Gaaaah!" *So and So has quit team*
Really, my experience is people don't want challenges, they want to smash buttons and win, while looking good doing it.
Sure, they might like to look like they COULD faceplant, but they don't tend to want to faceplant.
Unless it's a dedicated Blaster ^_^ -
Quote:If the player is suppossed to take up Statesman's role (as they said was the case with the reason of killing off Statesman)...why would my character need any help beyond taking on the minions while my character takes on the big bad solo! They could always set up Cole to be the new Statesman. Statesman's death could have a positive impact on Cole, putting him in a position to take on more of the Well's power to face the Coming Storm (with help from us, of course).
"YAY! I'm Statesman!" *gets knocked out by a minion* "But I feel like Synapse!" -
Quote:You know, the same thought crossed my mind when I first saw it. But no, I'm pretty sure's she's just holding her hand over her shoulder.Ooh it's the "make a peace on one side to distract her

P.S. love the way he/she is using soft white lines and zig zags to suggest the folds in the cloth,
the more little details that read right the more compelling the image.
Gratz on another cool piece Brand.

Quote:That's as bad as "Can't kill BABS he's a minority on the team"Ms. Liberty is an obvious one to take over Statesman's place in the Freedom Phalanx - and maybe hand over the Vindicator leadership to someone else.
I think Desdemona is too busy with the Carbnival of Light right now - although whoever does replace Staetsman should be female to make the Freedom Phalanx more balanced.
If anyone replaces Statesman on the Freedom Phalanx, it should be purely because it makes sense. And would it make sense for Ms Liberty to be the one to replace him?
Well she's his granddaughter and his sidekick. Maybe. But then, isn't she a bit more willing to get her hands dirty unlike every member of the FP except for Manticore? -
I'm curious. With the reasoning behind Statesman dying being that our character gets to take his place, does that mean we'll be all butt kcikery no matter what character we're on?
Seriously, the one who takes the big heroes place is...THE BLASTER WHO FACEPLANTS EVERY SPAWN!
I like the idea of (and in my head that's how it is) player characters being this big replacement for Statesman, but does this mean they'll act like it too?
Being able to handle AV level threats single handedly and not downgrade to EB for instance, is what Statesman does. He's that big hero.
And was the reasoning really "Let's have the players take up his role" or was it "Get rid of all remenants of Jack"
It feels like it's the later, since I doubt we'll be seeing much of content spent on soloing like a big hero does. Outside of just letting the player think it because some story arc said so.
Not saying there shouldn't be content centered around big team ups even with powerhouses like Statesman in the picture, but I'm curious as to how this is going to make one feel like they're taking Statesman place.
Also, will we see complaints that this storyline doesn't fit with the streetlevel hero concepts? -
Quote:And it looks like I was wrong. And still feels like a cop out of "Let's get rid of Jack for good"

No really, no matter what they do, they're not going to make the player character truely feel like they're taking up Statesman's place. -
Quote:It's a question that shouldn't have to be asked and if it was one that shouldn't have to be answered as it's insulting to the devs, as it's basically accussing them of terrible things.Perhaps... but there's generally a lack of ethnic diversity in comics - and if Paragon killed off the most significant African-American signature hero, there would a justification for asking why they felt that was necessary.
It's a question they don't want to have to answer and so it isn't an option and will not happen.
That said, I agree. It's what keeps BABs safe imo. Nevermind how they could make it the most awesome and sad and basically the best story ever told, and it would still leave them with feedback asking for them to defend themselves on the choice.
Basically killing BABs would likely have the forums and the devs PMs filled with flaming posts, and likely some new TV Trope that gets worse than Miss Liberty's death.
It's a sad state of affairs, but judging by the forums just how it would be.
Sooo...if I was going to bet, I'd say BABs is safe.
Still thinking Positron or Manticore. For Synapse to go out, I think it'd be a disservice to have him go out by anything other than a huge Crey Industries threat to the city type of storyline. -
Quote:Truthfully, when it comes to Demoralize, I've just come to not even worry about it on my Stalkers.Perhaps, they should make Stalker more "controllerish" so it's further away from Scrapper? Demoralize is a good start.
The only problem I see is that most people don't pick Stalker because it has awesome controls. They make Stalkers because "assassins" in many games have been labeled as "glass-cannon, damage dealer". Well, they get the "glass cannon" part right but is Stalker the King of melee damage? Nope! And that's where the big problem is.
If you don't want to add more damage to Stalker, what else do you guys propose? I guess we can start by causing Demoralize even out of hide AS? One thing for sure is I want an uninterruptable AS.
Really, I just wasn't seeing the effect all that often, to the point I was wondering, was it even there! -
Up tanker Threat! I hated seeing my Ice/Ice Tanker have aggro pulled off her by a Fire/Shield Scrapper, even though I ran and got the attention of the AV first, had 2 DMG auras, punchvoke and Taunt all going.
Make it so Bruising can stack on a target from multiple Tankers (I still see people go "Multiple Tankers? *sigh*" when it comes to teaming).
Make Bruising 30% -Resist, and a little more likely to go off.
Increase their DMG cap.
And lastly...
Lower Brute max resist to 85. Raise Scrappers to 80. -
Quote:There's still plenty of themetic difference. But like many ATs, there's exceptions and thusly it can get lost.Sure, but not by much, and not without further destroying the thematic differences between stalkers and scrappers.
Scrappers will still be the better off tanks (this isn't to say Stalkers couldn't if built for it).
Personally I like the idea of Stalkers becoming the better ST killers period. In that they have the better ST Burst and better ST DPS.
Can a Scrapper have better ST DPS than a Stalker? Yes! If they pick a higher ST DPS combo compared to the Stalkers combo!
But if they pick the same combo, I would like to see the Stalker win out in but the burst (AS) and following DPS.
Yes, it means Stalkers become closer to Scrappers. But that's really the only way to do it with CoH without it screwing things up, while keeping to the Stalker theme, which is more in line with being a ST killer (exceptions of course..and things like ELM with staying hidden through LR will likely continue to make ELM the most awesome on Stalkers). -
Which is sad on the part of the people who bring attention to that sort of thing on either side of it, rather than just enjoying the story.
-
I just don't think it'll be Synapse. Not unless the story gets some heavy Crey involvement. It just seems like the perfect way for him going out is fighting some terrible Crey threats.
Positron (being a dev and all) would be the one to surprse me. But, if it was him, he can have his TF become BAB's TF! -
Quote:I think Wing and JB said it well enough. It's not that the genre can't support it, it's that it's being WAY to overdone.Pretty much, yup.
By way of for instance I have two words for you: Portal Corporation. That right there opens pandora's box for all sorts of dimensional crossings for all sorts of characters - many of which will probably not fit the "4 color" era mold.
I mean are you really asking the playerbase to limit their concepts to what your idea of a "super-hero" should be? I don't think you are, but you do seem to be bothered by it quite a bit.
Frankly, the primary reason I picked up this game (and continue to play it) is that I am gloriously unlimited in the concepts that I can pick and choose for characters.
Does it really dilute the games generic identity if I decide that my character is from an alien world, or an alternate dimension, or a summoned creature that broke free of its summoner's bonds, or a Cimeroran blacksmith who took up his hammer against Romulus, only to find his home trapped in a time loop created by the Midnighters - a never ending struggle that resets and finds his people right back where they started, driving him to villany on Primal earth in revenge? (That last one I actually run).
Heroism is an act, not a costume. That goes double for villany.
Don't misunderstand, I'm all for adding more options. More toon customization is better, seriously, but I don't buy into the idea that the multitude of options available somehow messes up the game because there are so many options available *other* than classic spandex in 4 color process.
You say "Oh well, this is my concept!" Then everyone looks around and goes, "Yup. Just like the millions of others who think they're awesome, not really typical superhero genre, concepts!"
Not saying I don't like a lot of those concepts. There are some really well done ones. But, I recall that time when all I saw when I looked around was vampire and werewolves, and that time it was all D&D style characters...you see those in mass quantities and as someone who came here for the superhero genre, you start to go "sigh"
But it's no different than my complaints about shield (which is yes an awesome and fun set)...it's a very little used superhero powerset. There were better and more common sets that could of been done.
If one thinks about it, Shield is so rare, why not give the webslinging power set a go, since it's just as common, if not maybe just a little more common. -
And the newest commission! Jessica (aka Brand X) and her BFF, Emiline!
-
Quote:Oh well yeah, and why during beta for shields, I asked for a Bubble version of the set that would allow use with 2 handed weapon sets.I said aesthetic, not thematic. The mechanics of Shield Defense, ie the way it works, is completely divorced from the aesthetics, ie the way it looks. If Shield was just a regular aura, or could be made either a regular aura or a physical shield, then you could use it with any two-handed weapon, just like every other defense set.
It's quite a fun set mechanic wise, but limited in concept due to requiring a shield. -
Okay, has this happened to anyone else...
I get on the market (through use of /auctionhouse) and buy an IO recipe while on a TF (Crushing Impact: ACC/DMG/END) at level 33.
I then craft said recipe when I teleport to the base to make the way to Crey's Folley for the hunt mission (Manticore TF).
Only, it becomes a lvl 30 IO instead of the level 33 recipe I bought and used.
I even go back and recheck the market, and sure enough there's my bid ont he level 33 recipe of (2,222,222 million) for the lvl 33 recipe.
This a known bug? A fluke on my part? Has it happened before?
