Quote:Then wouldn't Center basically be a MM AV. Weak on his own, but bodyguard mode making him tough to kill? Why is that? Is it because they need to be dangerous to you in order to be considered dangerous?
What about the Center? He's such a weenie you never even get to fight him, but he's far more of a threat than some of the big bad AVs he sics on you. I mean, what has Maestro ever really done besides order some experiments and try to beat you up?
And yes, I want something more than 1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4 enemy is dead.
AV fights, may be the same thing, in that it's basically 1-2-3-4 only repeated more times, but at least then it feels like a real challenge was put against the character and not, yeah I got in and slapped them around. -
Quote::O I didn't skip them on my build! I'm not nucking futs! \o/I've made no claims regarding superiority of either Spines/Elec vs Spines/DA. Auroxis has made claims, the validity of which I doubt. Before any comparisons could be made, builds needed to be posted so we can all see what's actually being compared. That's all I've asked for in this discussion.
Going back and reviewing yours, Auroxis, and John_Printemps builds and I've concluded you are all nucking futs. You've all skipped Impale and Ripper. I can't post a comparison build because I'd never play a build without Impale and Ripper. If that's what's required to obtain these numbers, I can happily say no thanks.
Since it's been requested, here's the build I'm considering but I am not really happy with. Again, not really comparable.

So everything we've been asking for over and over again?

But mostly for the hopes that we can seperate skin color for costume color, so we can use two colors on all costume pieces! -
Quote:Nope. Holding and Immobilizing her will suck for melee, and truthfully she seems rather easy to immobilize, as I've seen those with just Midnight Grasp immobilize her.I ran Apex on my Scraps and Tanks for the first time last week, and it was really fun and different. But I have a melee-related question about the BM mission.
Does holding BM stop the blue swords from falling on her? It does not appear to, and if BM is held, I have to wait until the blue energy wears off before I can attack. I wanted to tell the trollers to stop holding, but didn't since I didn't know if there was a reason for it that I wasn't seeing. Assuming there is a Tank/Taunter on the team, it seems more productive to let them draw her out from the energy field.
And the taunter on the team, drawing them out, is only more productive, depending on how melee heavy the team is.
If you have 7 Ranged toons, and one melee with taunt/confront, BM staying in the patch isn't a worry.
Also, one could always spec into a ranged attacks in their Epics (if their primary doesn't have one) so they can attack when BM is held/immobilzed.
Scrappers with Ranged Attacks/Hold also make them more useful on LGTF

Quote:Well I didn't forget them. And I know they do. And others in the missions have spandex looking outfits as well (I forget their names though), even if they're terrible looking. Some of them are though - like Doc Quantum, Falmbeaux and Blast Furnace - but we still don't have enough mad scientists to fight

Quote:Agreed. But that's still basically saying what Mechano said...ignore what you want. That's what all RPers do anyways. While I can understand the reasoning behind the issues about the Incarnate/Well story-line, getting upset because it goes against your character concept is sort-of pointless.
The Well/Incarnate Arcs don't control your character's story; you, the player, control the story. You aren't forced to write your character as an Incarnate or Well Lacky if you don't want to.
You don't always need to go completely with in-game events when telling your story. Way back when, long before Power Customization, I'd make characters who's powers were somewhat or even totally different than the 'in-game canonical' Powersets (Dark Melee being dark-matter instead of Netherworld energy, Spines being Ice crystals) and before AE I'd run Story Arcs where the character would actually be doing things other than the mission objective but would still accomplish the same goal (Talking the hostage takers into releasing the captives, sabotaging Council gear instead of just hacking computers).
The Incarnate stuff works exactly the same way, even if some of it is a little harder to get around (Lore Pets, I'm lookin' at you). I'm not saying that in-game canon should be blown completely out of the water and have your character be Statesman's dad or something, but at the end of the day, what you write in that little bio box, up here on the forums, or RP in-game is your decision. -
Quote:I don't think that thought changes, because one is an alien and one is a god. That's actually precisely why people would call him an alien. It's a lot easier to talk to someone when you're thinking "She's not from around here." instead of "This woman can crush me like a bug."
I think what changes, is one's view of basically coming down to...worship.
"Okay. It's an alien that can stomp me like a bug! But that's no different than me going head to head with a tank!"
vs
"Okay! This is a god! Do I start worshipping them now? Is my soul damned if I don't? Or I do? OMG! My chosen faith is so wrong, why didn't I think to worship forgotten religions?!"
Basically no different than what CoH uses for Zeus. He wasn't a god, he was an incarnate that was worshipped as a god by the people, as well, incarnates (and supers in general) are powerful enough to be viewed as such by those without equal power. -
Quote:You are though! No I didn't. See, I thought I was badass because I'd learned how to dodge that Rikti sword before it took my head off. I thought I was powerful because I had learned how to channel the forces of nature to obey my whim. I thought I was smart because I built a better suit of power armor. But nope, I was wrong. I wasn't badass or powerful or smart after all. The Well just deigned to share some of its all-prevading awesomeness with me.
The well didn't teach you how to do any of that. The well gave you the potential to do all that.
Mind you, that's if you go by the Well and not, as Mechano said, ignore the game canon, you as an RPer (or just a concept builder if not an RPer) choose. -
and thusly, maybe it's the magic users who really know more about physics than those who claim to be of science and technology, but they refuse to share the knowledge, so they can seem...magical!

Quote:You have a point. For all intents, starting at level 1, would make one think, if you were this big ancient powerful OMG, whatever, before...you somehow got terribly weak by the time you entered Paragon/RI/Praetoria.It should also be pointed out that it is extremely hard to justify the existence of a Super that existed before the start of this game anyway since you start at level 1. And I say this while I have 2 characters that were worshipped as Gods in the dark ages. The very fact that you start out not-very-powerful means that you're ignoring a bunch of in-game text anyway. I'm not trying to justify the Origin of Power storyline as good writing - because I don't particularly love it - but I don't think it's good for entirely different reasons than you seem to. The Origin of Power storyline feels clunky because it felt like they were trying to justify the Well affecting everyone equally regardless of origin, not that they were trying to overwrite your origin, but that they were trying to work on concert with all possible ones. Each origin also (if I recall) includes loopholes to be pretty much include most character concepts. I would argue that it doesn't do this well, but I think the intent is quite clear even if the execution doesn't quite make it.

Quote:From an RP stand point, was any of this anything your character knew to begin with?Yeah and that would be what I don't like.
This rather huge retcon going on that the Well is the be all and end all. That, for example, Giovanna Scaldi was "chosen by the well".
No she wasn't...she clearly freaking wasn't, she was just one of the rare people that had powers waaaay back when but now the Well has been introduced, everything is linked to that.
Its the linking of everything to the Well, the Circle of Thorns got their power by bargaining with the demons of the netherworld, not because of the Well decided that those Demons should give the Circle of Thorns power.
It is getting to a level where even though I'm unlike Venture or Eva in regards hating the newer stories...the Incarnate storyline is really starting to annoy me with its bigass Retcon that the Devs are doing.
Some character that was so powerful, they knew how everything was before, this was added in?
Eh, I'm not saying this is the way I would have gone. But then again, I would of tried to keep a more "Marvel/DC" style superhero theme to the game, rather than have so few spandexers, that it seems they're the minority. -
Quote:That's how I thought it wasThe Achilles Heel proc and the Fury of Gladiator proc stack with each other.
I never bothered to check Bruising, but I have no reason to believe it doesn't stack with Achilles and Fury.
It's just when two different characters have say the AH Proc, and one triggers the effect, the other player, if they trigger their proc while the first proc is still in play, it won't stack.
The same with Gladiators and Bruising.
It's like the character is buffed with, AH -Resist Buff, so it's doesn't stack, but Gladiator -Resist Buff is a different buff all together. -
How's the build handle, Infini? In ITFs, LGTF, the incarnate TFs, and in taking on AVs (regardless if you have the DPS to take them down, can you stand toe to toe with them)
-
Quote:I was merely commenting on where you placed itFirst: fair enough, I just found out
Second: How can you be cool with that? I get that Alien Tech can be god like and aliens could be seen as gods but Thor IS a god, for me that's a cornerstone of the character. Might as well take away his hammer next, we can give em a laser gun or perhaps a light saber.
BrandX- when I searched for posts about this, it seemed that the Thor movie threads were here so this is where I stuck it. sry if I was mistaken.
I wasn't to worried about it.
Thor is still a God I would think. As such, that he was worshipped by people centuries ago as one.
It's just that he wasn't exactly Celetial as he was an Alien Race, that was and still is, more powerful than most of humanity. -
Quote:While I didn't know this, I'm personally okay with this.Wasn't this always the case? I know at least in Earth X the Asgardians were revealed to be psychic aliens whose identities were unconsciously crafted by the race they came into contact with (humans, in this case). So it's not a new idea.
I have no problem with this. They're already straddling the line between technology and magic anyway, it's no different than the Prophets of DS9 being "gods" to the Bajorans and "wormhole aliens" to the Federation.
It still sounds like it makes them the Norse Gods. It just means, the Norse Gods werent Gods in the sense of what people think of as gods per se, but still...OMG powerful, and even in modern Marvel universe, more powerful than almost any other.
I will still be seeing the movie when it comes out. -
Quote:How has any of the current incarnate content, made your stories irrelevant? No. Hami is just Hami. He isn't the be-all and end-all of super powers. He is the culmination of his own storyline, not an attempt to make all other stories irrelevant.
The Well has been opened before. Supers have been around this hole time, but they were so rare, as to be myth. Opening the well made what seemed to be myth, a known reality.
Those who were super and around before Marcus and Stefan found the Well, had those powers because the Well (which just seems like a all encompassing deity above all other dieties...without using the word god, because it might offend people) had so chosen them. -
I thought he found a way to steal the power of the Well, not that the Well gave it to him.

I'd say this thread would be better off in the Comic Book section of the forums.
That said...well, if people thought Spidey was better off with Organic Web Shooters to be more believable, I see no reason why they couldnt get behind Thor being an alien.
And who knows, they could just as easily say they're aliens who were looked upon as gods by the Norse. -
Quote:If the story has to be about the Mary Sue, to be a Mary Sue, I fail to see how anyone can think Statesman is a Mary Sue.This. In my view, Tyrant lacks the most important element of a Mary Sue - the story is not *about* him. He's just the face on the latest piniata we're supposed to take swings at for shinies.
The writing on the Incarnate storyline has 99 problems but a Mary Sure ain't one.
I never got the impression (in game wise) that the story was about him.
Now mind you, when I say that, untill the Incarnate content, I never thought players were considered (story arc wise) as tough/strong as Statesman, or many of the AVs for that matter.
Players always seemed to be under the Freedom Phalanx/Vanguard, Recluse/Recluse Lts/The Lts Sidekicks in power.
But I never thought the stories were about them. -
Quote::O Wait. Wait. I thought they just didn't stack from the same proc.No. Even if you could get them to fire at the same time, it wouldn't work.
The Achilles' Heel -RES proc, the Fury of the Gladiator -RES proc and Tanker Bruising all do the same thing; rather than apply a -RES debuff, they grant the target a short duration autopower that applies the debuff and is flagged "Does not stack from same caster". All three sources grant the same autopower, and since the target is the caster of that auto, even if you had multiple sources stacking dozens of -RES procs/bruising effects on a single target, it would never be debuffed more than once (from those sources. Debuffs from elsewhere, like sonic blast, would still stack normally). All you would accomplish is extending the duration of the debuff when they stacked, and increase the likelyhood of getting a new debuff up if the proc didn't fire often enough.
The different procs, AH/Gladiator/Bruise Effect, don't stack with each other at all?! -
Quote:Is Imperious really any relation to Marcus Cole, if he's from the past? Wouldn't Imperious just be an incarnate of Zues, who happens to look like Marcus Cole?I posted this elsewhere so I'll repeat it here.
Statesman is the Superman of the world, yes but he wasn't really the be all and end all, not everything focused around him and during Troy's run on the comics he was actually very well written (every other handling of him seemed like the REALLY hated Superman and took out frustrations on our resident Superman expy).
Statesman is never really in the limelight that often and when he's presented ingame he's actually a lot more of a pushover than even some of his colleges on the Freedom Phalanx (he's Invuln/SS, yes he has a crashless unstoppable but so does Back Alley Brawler...Statesman just has that big AoE as well).
He cropped up where it made sense for someone like Superman to make a stand, against very powerful villains who brutally beat his Granddaughter (you'd be pissed too). Yes ye olde Statesman did smash a Rikti Mothership but that's not ingame and he isn't as stupidly overpowered ingame as he is in backstory, if anything with the introduction of IOs the players have far surpassed him before even taking the first step onto the Incarnate ladder
However with the introduction of Cimmerorea all that begun to change.
First we are introduced to his ancient times version, then to his Nazi version to the now uber-Incarnate level Praetorian version. He crops up everywhere and he's always the best of the best, miles better than any player.
Over the last couple of years everything has begun to revolve around Marcus Cole and the Praetorian Invasion angle is just the pinnacle of that. All the buildup has been to show how awesome Marcus Cole is.
The only way he could be an alternate dimension Marcus Cole, is if Cimeroa isn't the past, but an alternate dimension entirely. -
I was hoping with the tip missions, that that's what they were trying to do. However, to make it interresting at all, they need to be more than Boss rank.
Named bosses just don't have the same impact as Recluse and his LTs or Statesman and the rest of the Freedom Phalanx.
At the same time, some of the Rogue's Gallery they have in the tip missions, don't give me a superhero comic vibe. Not because they couldn't, but because *cough*Frostfire*cough* looks more like a thug/blue skinned civvie than anything resembling a spandex/tight/unstable molecule suit/techno armored wearing superhero/villain. -

...has anyone created a High Defense, High DPS (by this I mean about 180-190+) Regen Scrapper?
I've been wracking my brains on a /Regen build (and primary right now, though I was thinking MA), trying to go this route, to change things up from well, my main DB/WP.
But I have yet to get the defenses at a level I think would work for things such as high level TFs and AV soloing, and be as tough as my WP, but frankly...more fun!
WP is very tough, but it's toggle and go! It gets boring, I need a clickie in my defense! Regen has many!
