true, but the OP wanted something useful on teams, iTrials, and could solo well. Time on a defender will benefit teams/iTrials more, have more defense, and still do decent damage solo.
-
Quote:that would be interresting. And Blaster could be all "Must keep attacking to stay alive!"That probably wouldn't help much for feel but not sure about on paper.
Personally, I'd make HoB's secondary effect the set's secondary effect, i.e. each attack gives +def to all (not just positions) but only stackable to 3.
And if you choose the non-dancy animations, n0 d3F 4 j00!1 -
Just curious, doesn't Dual Blades work for Knife Melee?
-
Then give it Hail of Bullets! Need the true gunfu!
-
Quote:Various weapon based Judgement Powers would be nice too!I'd like a physical Judgement attack - like Nova Fist or Foot Stomp - or if they prefer to make it a ranged AoE attack, then some kind of body slam/shoulder charge like Shield Charge.
But until that happens, my Judgement slot will remain unfilled
Dual Pistols, Assault Rifle, Bow, Dual Blades, Sword (Katana/BS), Axe and Mace.
-
I think people will be disappointed with the just shoot them animations, when they realize they'd still have the same animation time as the spin your pistols animations (which I love and never want to see removed!)

Quote:Well my suggestion was Dual Pistols for the Epic. And really, I've just grown to accept that redraw will happen.Could totally get behind a pistol Epic, although I would advocate they take the time to animate it for a (Hand weapon) + Pistol stance to avoid stupid amounts of redraw...
If they keep to the trend of the damage on Scrappers, the only power I'm not sure of on DPS is Executioner's Shot. But factor in having to redraw weapons, I'm thinking it won't be a factor in DPS builds as the redraw would slow it down.
Dual Wield
Executioner's Shot
Bullet Rain
Swap Ammo
Hail of Bullets (smaller AOE, less damage, no +defense)
And with i21 making Epic Pools open at earlier levels, one could take all the powers, and have a MA or StJ/Whatever Character and \o/ Or in my possible case Titan/Whatever. >_> Okay who am I kidding, I'd have a lot of ???/???/Dual Pistol Epic just cuz I love the Dual Pistols
-
Agree with #1. But I'd likely say just got 50/50.
However, I was thinking on Dual Pistols the other day and I did think of something that I think would help the set without really upping it's damage.
Give Pistols the Claws treatment.
Seeing as how Swap Ammo mechanic really doesn't make anything impressive (mind you I love the set) why not make it the Claws equivalent for ranged sets?
Reduced Recharge/End Cost -
Remember, in i21 you will be able to take Flight without AS.

Quote:While modern military does use all those things like GPS, internet, satellited communication, in this situation they'd get by with regular hand held radios.I've been reading this with interest. I do have a couple questions though.
What's the terrain like in Ancient Rome? Yeah, the Romans were master road builders, but would their bridges be able to support the weight of modern military weapons?
Given the military's propensity for fighting the last war, are we going to be sending heavy fuel hog machines when something lighter and faster and more fuel efficient would probably do the job better?
How much maintenance do today's weapons require? And how much of modern military action depends on things like GPS, the internet, and satellite communication that won't be available in the past?
I don't honestly know. I'm just curious.

Quote:You know, I did forget about that! Time Crawl -> Time Stop -> Freeze Ray -> Epic Pool Hold Power -> Repeat...could possibly get that to chain level, slotting Freeze Ray and the Epic Hold Power with a Lockdown and Devastation Proc, Time Stop beign a very short mag 4 hold and also slotted with a Lockdown Proc...OoooooIt depends really. Ice currently gets the Blaster version of Ice Storm but I think I heard RoF is going to be a Defender specific version rather than the Blaster version. I'm not going for 100% "the best", but things which will have a bit of synergy (Stacked Holds and -Recharge in the case of Ice) and sound interesting.
Rad's problem is that the Cone is very narrow and the Tennis Ball of Doom is a bit slow to animate. The PBAOE has nice synergy on paper with Time though (as would Elec actually although Elec doesn't do massive damage and it's secondary effect always gives me slotting dilemmas, it's AOE Blast is quick to animate too). -
And I forgot, yes, give it to all the Melee ATs, but I just prefere my Scrappers
-
Quote:o.OThe point, which was hard to miss, is that none of those attacks remove the primacy of melee from a scrapper. No more than having melee attacks in blaster secondaries means Blasters should get War Mace. Pistols are a ranged weapon. You can have Pistol Whip and Point Blank but that changes nothing as far as I am concerned. As for your Ancillaries, Body Mastery has one ranged attack (which I use in my Dark/Dark, as the "get that running fool!" attack). And if you want to create a scrapper whose principal attack chain is Blaze Mastery, have at it.
Now if they create a pistol scrapper set, I will make one. But again, I would personally rather they work on something else.
Blaze Mastery...5 powers...all ranged.
I'm not asking for a Scrapper Primary. My suggestion was purely as an Epic set, and my picking the three attacks I did was purely for animation LOVE reasons.
If I had to pick the other two abilities, Swap Ammo and Bullet Rain. Swap ammo for the ammo swap and Bullet Rain as it's one of my favorite animations as well.
Also, using Hail of Bullets as a PBAOE wouldn't that mean, not really a ranged attack
So, that's 3 ranged attacks, 1 PBAOE (and I totally expect it to be downgraded and not nuke level), and 1 Gimmick power.
And no one would beable to make an attack chain out of Dual Wield and Executioners Shot. -
Quote:I totally mean the PBAOE! I want that animation to go along with my Scrapper!I think Brand means Rain of Bullets, the TAoE, not the Tier 9 PBAoE Hail of Bullets

I'd love to see a Scrapper and Dominator Blade and Pistol set. Because, let's face it, having mid-short ranged attacks in Scrappers is NOT overpowered. If so, Spines, Claws, Kinetics and a few others haven't been informed that they should be imba

Weakened version of no +Defense, smaller range, and possibly no more damage than a PBAOE in their Primaries? NO PROBLEM! -
Quote:And I'm okay with that! I really just want the animation!I'll be honest, I would love a pistol epic pool. For all melee ATs, not just scrappers. Giving them hail of bullets would be a bit overpowered, though. They'd have to nerf it some way. Personally I could see a scrapper version on a minute recharge, but doing only slightly more damage than a normal scrapper epic AoE and not having the defense that the ranged set gets. Though I think getting empty clips instead would be more likely.

Quote:Hmmm...is Ice Blast enough AOE? That's why I suggested Fire Blast. My next suggestion would likely be Time/RAD Defender, as I recall it having decent AOE and I think being one of the more top tier sets (I dont recall).Because I already have a Fire/Dark Corrupter I'm probably going to go with a Ice/Time Corrupter or a Time/Ice Defender. Haven't really decided which yet.
Basically it'll come down to Scourge vs earlier and more potent Time powers. Scourge is gold with Rain powers and vs AVs.
Which version of Rain of Fire are defenders getting? The Blaster version, a la Ice Storm or a normalized version specific to Defenders? -
Quote:Time/Fire Defender. With Time manipulation coming out, which looks really cool, I'm looking to make the best time manipulator that I can.
I really loathe asking this on the boards, but I'd like to ask what power set out there that can go with TM to make the most effective character.
'Most effective' meaning most useful in incarnate trials... able to survive and overcome medium sized groups of +1s to +3s.
I'm currently leaning towards a fire/time controller. Although I would have loved to make a grav/time for thematic reasons, I don't think grav/time would be as effective in trials.
Perhaps */TM corruptor or MM would be better?
Opinions?
Defender gives the better buff/debuff numbers, so you're helping your team out more. Fire Blast gives a good amount of AOE and ST damage...AOE for cannon fodder death and ST for the AVs.
More AOE will also mean better chance of getting the higher tier rewards on the iTrials.
Not so sure how the slows will play out on iTrials, I dont find the enemies to be crawling when slows are used on them, but the +Defense will help everyone out, and the -Resist will help out damage. Some character wont notice the +RCH, while others will. -
Dual Wield
Executioners Shot
Hail of Bullets
Pick any other two Dual Pistol abilities..
Dual Pistol Epic Power Set!
THEY NEED THIS! -
-
You're forgetting all they'll need is short wave radios for this engagement.

Quote:Holding would be just as easy.no I've said that if the goal is just to decimate the entire country it would be easy...
If the goal is to conquer and hold it's an entirely different game.
Also as far as range and ammunition...
IT's been stated that the ammunition is roughly 2 bullets per roman in their millitary. That may seem reasonable at first but the more bullets you waste the more you don't kill. The longer you stay the more you lose the tech advantage because power drains and once the power drains you have to rely on the same thing the Romans are. If you're on the run or hope to maintain things you're going have to explain concepts and those will get out and you'll have to deal with rebellions and such depending on how you conquer...
Quite Frankly the best strategy would be to fly into the capital and send one Marine to land in front of the Emperor and a sniper get a good bead on him and then put on a show pretending that the Marine meeting face to face blows the emperor's head off magically...
that's probably the best way to do it, but i doubt the marines would do it.
To think the Marines wouldn't use the "We are gods" approach is silly.
Go in, "Declare I am a messanger of the gods" *snipe emporer in the face as you unleash a rain of fire upon them *long range fire/explosives" watch as everyone bows down. -
Quote:Some possible losses. Sure. You're still forgetting Marines have the range advantage. In their weapondry.Pitched battle, open land - Marines will win, but sustain heavy losses (you can reload only so fast, and the concept of death was different to Legionaires than to modern man, insofar as sense of self is not as finely tuned and men of the Legions felt that it was their duty to follow orders and die)
Siege, Romans entrenched - Marines will break through defenses with some losses
Siege, Marines entrenched - Romans will starve the Marines into either making a break or preemptive strikes on Roman defensive emplacements
Pitched battle, broken field - Marines win handily. Tanks and humvees will survive where horse and chariot falter.
This is NOT a slam dunk. The fighting trim of a Legionaire places them on the same level as a Marine. The same training programs and the same PT, even similar amounts to carry on patrol.
Do not forget that Serpentines, Ballista, Catapults, Siege Towers, Boiling Pitch/Flaming Oil (something the Marines have no counterpart since the Geneva convention) and significantly superior numbers of superbly trained, if crudely equipped, soldiers makes this as dependent upon the ability of the Colonel as it does the fighting trim of the Marines.
The Marines would win, under most any circumstance. But, if one thinks that they're all going to survive with nothing but scratches, dysentery, and a profound sense of accomplishment, one would be gravely mistaken.
There is a REASON Roman military tactics are STILL taught in modern times.
Helicopters alone can fly outside the range of any arrows and just lay down area fire.
You're right, there is a reason Roman military tactics are still taught, the Marines have the tactic of aerial support! -
Quote:Or the one who saw it would be wetting themselves as they thought the gods have arrived.Let's try to settle this with a little bit of "role play"
Helicopter is likely the largest vehicle going through right? so how much clearance would a helicopter need and how low to the ground could it be... that gives us a "portal size"
Does the portal make noise? where is it located? is it visible?
I would say that even if the portal doesn't make noise any machine coming through will make noise...
I would say if they could place the portal it would be slightly north of Medolanum on this map http://resourcesforhistoryteachers.w...ire_1_A.d..jpg
So... the portal opens the Marines start coming through... What happens?
Well the first this is likely some people would see what's going on and within a little bit of time a messenger would be sent to the closest Legion. That legion would like react and meet at Medolanum...
If i remember a legion can march like 30 miles in a day...
So at this point is a legion close enough to set up by the time the Marines are ready to do anything
How would the Romans and Marines act? Also would the Marines start off with the goal of taking over an holding or would they be peaceful at first and who would act first?
This was an ancient civilization that believed in the gods. Out comes this huge flying monster making loud sounds.
