Question for the masses... I have not played COH for a year or more, before i left i had a a dm/fire scrap with godlike capabilities due to mass amounts of time and money spent on set bonuses and a stone/ice tank with even more. Both chars i spent in excess of 750 mil on, now both suck due to my set IO's being greyed out... Why are they not working??? What else has changed?? What are good melee or tank choices with the new power sets available???

It is one of the few things i have not done on this game yet, i would like to have one of my characters be able to do it. I didn't have the patience before either methinks.
Soooo, Bots/traps, I have stayed away from MM's for a while, maybe time to try and run one.
Sonic/Rad corrs? that sounds interesting, might have to try that also.
Ill/rad troller, I honestly don't think I have ever rolled an Ill troll before, another possible idea...

I have a question, I have been playing this game for several years now and have never killed an AV or GM solo...
I have a Stone/WP brute, a Fire/Dark corr, a Dark/Fire scrap, a Stone/Ice troll, and a Ice/Fire tank all at 50, can any of these defeat one if built properly? If not, what AT can do it with the least amount of money spent and/or the greatest ease? Money isn't too much of an issue I guess, I just don't want to invest in a character to have him/her not do it. I have read in the individual forums and seen that this corr can or that troll can, but which is the best overall (if there is such a one).
I would like my next build to be an AV/GM slayer.
ANY and ALL advice will be greatly appreciated!!!!

Outstanding info everyone, exactly what I wanted, Thanks!!! I thought i was doing something wrong when my bots closed to melee after a few shots, or I was misguiding them with my noobness. Very much appreciated, and will stick the binds in too!!

Ok, so i FINALLY decided to run with a MM after several yrs of playing. I decided to roll a Bots/Traps. How do I keep my pets out of melee?? What exact commands do I need to use? Goto? Heel? Follow? Any other commands that might help out? Or do I let them close to melee range? Please, please, please help out a MM noob... Any and all help will be greatly appreciated..

Update... Sitting at lvl 44 now, since I procced my guy out I can now safely solo a +2 +8 or +3 +6 mish with ease. I think I have 12? total procs between my earth and ice powers. FINALLY, this character is now a blast to play!!!

Update:
My troller is now sitting at lvl 41. I have 8 procs spread out in my powers. I open with snow storm, hit stalagmites, then follow with cages. Then VG and EQ gets laid down, with sleet intermixed and stoney attacking. I have an ae to myself, I set it at +3 enemies and set for +6, and can easily solo the mish now. EASILY. No hastle. No fuss. No dying. Every spawn is immobb'ed, choking, bouncing, and slowed to a crawl. It is sooooo nice to finally be able to solo and kill things efficiently. I rotate every attack (fossilize and nem staff) against the lts so they roughly all die together while stoney kills them too. I keep stoney shielded with the good ole ice shields. I gain just shy of a 1/3 bar of experience per spawn at lvl 41. It takes less than a minute to kill a spawn, and is finally very rewarding. On teams, this alt shuts em down, and I like that.

GOT IT!!!!! It was the CoolIris plugin messing it up!! Thank you, thank you, thank you so much!!! That was soooooo irritating. I stopped posting for a LONG time from frustration.

Yes it is under Firefox. I do not have any unusual plug-ins that I know of.

I made an Ice/Stone tank. How tankerish will I be?? I plan on basically picking up all Ice powers and relying on Fault and Tremor to mitigate damage... I want a Tank who wont die often and be able to run from spawn to spawn and not worry about faceplating. This will be my first serious try at a tank, my other 50's are Scraps and Brutes. I am not worried about being a damage dealer, just someone who can lead a team efficiently. Did I pick the wrong combo?? Any and all help/advice from the masses would be GREATLY appreciated.

How come it takes me 4-15 times to log in with my user name and password?? It tells me thanks for loggin in, then the next screen shows me not logged into this site. I should Remember Me, and it never does. It makes it extremely difficult to post ANYTHING due to the fact that sometimes it will not even log in. Any ideas??

I have a Scrapper to 50 that is DM/Fire. He is a MONSTER. I run in, hit soul drain, consume, consumption, then fireball. The mob is dead after that. I keep siphon on auto. I also dropped a ton on recharge from IO's on him. Both end tools are up every spawn. He is my favorite scrap I have. I was thinking of running him as a Brute, still might in fact. If you have a troller or dom playing with you that can't run out of your burn patch or blazing aura, enemies die in record time.

Two questions for the Knowledgeable masses....
1. Is it worth slotting my over time earth and ice powers with a proc or two?? For instance, Sleet, Earthquacke, Quicksand, VG, Snow storm, and Stone Cages???
2. I am at lvl 36 now, my epics are coming up, what epic pools are good, if any?

Question for the knowledgeable masses. I have a lvl 50 dark/fire scrap, and he is one of the funnest alts I have to date, especially with mass IO's. He is an absolute killing machine... How would a Dark/Fire brute hold up? I love brutes, have 2 at 50 and am thinking of making my next 50 dark/fire. Would he play the same? Are the numbers roughly the same for off/def? Any and all input would be greatly appreciated...

Thank you both for your input, seriously. I see what both of you are trying to convey to each other and will take both into consideration. I have plenty of respecs, I am lvl 17 now, and have snow storm, quicksand, and stone cages for now. I find all very useful in different circumstances, but do not have the later powers yet to decide what is worthwhile, to me, and what is not. Your arguing has been very informative and will use both sides to lvl my dude up. Thank you for the entertaining dialogue which I have been following since my OP. You all rock!!!

Brakkus, I just saw your last post. To answer your question, Yes, eventually you will deal some damage. If you want to be able to deal damage earlier, you can do what I do and Proc EVERYTHING. Here's a list of possible places for damage procs, that when you get enough of them stacking, actually ends up killing things.
If you only take a few, they won't do much. Having a lot of them, in aoe powers, getting LOTs of different checks on all the mobs constantly is where they end up working well for you.
Quicksand (slow set proc), Earthquake (Lady Grey, and knockback set proc), Sleet (Lady Grey, and Positrons), Volcanic gasses can take at least three, but I only use two and then use 4x acc/hold/recharge to get it back up as often as possible and to hold stuff,since you know... it is an aoe hold(VG - the two hold set procs are the cheapest way to go but it will take Positrons too). Stone Cages will take Trap of the Hunter and Positrons, but I usually go full set Trap of the Hunter for the high ranged defense bonus in the 6th slot. Snowstorm(slow set proc). Note: going this route is sort of expensive for a casual player, and it takes a while to get enough slots into powers so that they are both doing their jobs, and procing for you too. At level 17, just concentrate on control, and find teams you can use to do the killing(while you make them invincible).
Even using these, soloing will be very slow till you get the pet. Once you get into your 40s, the aoes from the epic pools will put out a LOT of damage, and the Earth set has a Huge damage power in Seismic Smash that is also a hold!(drool), but Frost Breath and Fire Ball both do respectable damage when contained, and the foes are pre-debuffed.

THANK YOU all for the help, tips, advice you have given me for my troller. i am sitting at lvl 17 now and loving. My dude doesn't do any damage to speak besides sands and blackwand, but that is fine with me because in team settings I help out enormously I have noticed. I did end up picking up both quicksand and snow storm, I personally like the -rech on snow storm and being able to throw down quicksand to block doorways and such.
Will my damage output improve at higher lvls?
