Question for the masses... I have not played COH for a year or more, before i left i had a a dm/fire scrap with godlike capabilities due to mass amounts of time and money spent on set bonuses and a stone/ice tank with even more. Both chars i spent in excess of 750 mil on, now both suck due to my set IO's being greyed out... Why are they not working??? What else has changed?? What are good melee or tank choices with the new power sets available???

Thanks to all in advance,

Brakkus

They're greyed out because (1) you're a free (premium) account and (2) you don't have an Invention License.

You can either upgrade to VIP (subscribe like before), buy a temporary Invention License (on the Paragon Market), or gain enough Paragon Reward Points for it to be unlocked permanently.

On the free-play tiers (anyone not subbing), you need to be at Tier7 on your Paragon Rewards, or buying an invention license every month to use IOs.

On the flip-side, you have access to a second build that you can outfit for SO/HO if you want.

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

Welcome back.

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

I "think" this could be related to you not retaining VIP status. If you have the $15 and nobody else corrects me, then you could sub for a month and notice the major differences. I do know that there are a number of end-game type differences between VIP and Preem/Freem to encourage subs.

EDIT: beaten to the punch as this tab was near the end of my list. :-p

If you're only planning to play one or two characters, and they're already fully IO'd out, then the invention license is pretty cheap -- about 160 points a month I think? Which equals about $2.00?

Yeah the invention license is $2 per month AFAIK. That'll reactivate all your IOs you have slotted, and allow you to visit the University to make more. You *won't* have Auction House access still--that's another $2 per month.

However those are probably the main ones as far as your personal situation is concerned. And you can play a lot of stuff for $4 per month.

Also, don't forget that you have two builds now (visit a trainer to switch to your 2nd build). You could SO out the 2nd build and be fine with just that, if you really don't want to pay. You won't be as awesome as all the IOs, but you won't suck either.
