  1. Laevateinn, thanks a lot for working through the build and finding all those details. I remember noticing the Panacea in there and meaning to take it out when I found War_Torch's build, but I must have forgotten to do so. And wow, at first when I saw so many changes to the slotting of the attacks I did a double take, but upon looking at a comparison of Acc, Dam, End & Rech of each attack in your build vs. mine, I'm choosing to go with yours.

Santorican, yeah, it's on my long term wishlist.
  2. Hi scrappers. I’m posting here today to seek constructive criticism of a Fire/Shield/Blaze build. My primary goals for this build are soft-capping defenses, having high ST & AoE DPS capabilities and maintaining a relatively low influence cost (no purples, no +3 PVP def IO).

Before I started making this build I did some homework by checking out a few threads relating to Fire/Shield/Blaze builds:
    Fire/Shield/Blaze FOTM
    Fire/Shield
    Fire/SD - build critique
FM/SD/Blaze Build -Is True Grit Skippable?
Looking for some direction: Fire / Shield

A lot of the information and builds in those threads influenced the build I put together, especially War_Torch’s build which I deconstructed and rebuilt to suit my purposes. Thus, I hope I’ve done a moderately good job of putting this build together, meeting my goals without making any glaring errors and not blindly missing out on some bonus(es) I could easily fit into this build.

So, I present this build to you all, my fellow scrappers, and ask for your constructive criticism.

  3. I'd really appreciate "sword version" alternate animations for Fiery Melee. I'd like to have the option to use a "fire sword" animation for every attack in the powerset using the existing fire sword graphic. To even it out, might as well make non-"fire sword" animations for the powers that do use a fire sword. Thus, some Fiery Melee characters could use all "fire sword" animations (as I would choose to do to go with my Shield Defense) while others might choose to use all non-sword animations.

Giving sword versions as alternative animations for other elemental/energy-type melee powersets would also be a nice treat. Ice, Electric, Energy and Dark melee powersets would all look cool using sword animations. And, like an all sword Fiery Melee, I think those animations would pair really well with Shield Defense.

Finally, if sword version alternate animations are ever done for these powersets, it would be nice to have dual wield sword animations too. Of course, then you have to consider how/whether to allow those animations with Shield Defense. But that's just something to consider after single-handed sword animations are done, if ever at all.
  4. So, any chance that y'all that prefer Fire/Shield/Blaze could post a build?
  5. Would you mind posting your Fire/Shield/Blaze build? I've got an alt that I plan to go this route with and I'd like to see some builds along these lines.

Mainly, I'm looking to make one that is fun to play and slices through crowds with AoEs. Also, for concept purposes, I'd really like to fit Fly into his build. I just hope I can figure out how to do all that and still reach the softcap.
  6. Could you post what you have taken thus far? And what, if any, power pools are important for you?

Without knowing your build as it stands, I can say there are at least a couple of schools of thought about the order of power selection in /wp.
-One school says it's better to take your defense and resistance granting powers as they become available and keep them toggled on constantly.
-The second school says it's better to just take Fast Healing and wait until you get Quick Recovery before taking the defense and resistance powers. The justification being that (1) at low levels you don't get much use out of defense/resistance powers due to lack of powerful enhancements and thus you're eating up a lot of endurance for little reward and (2) Fast Healing is all the help you need at lower levels to survive through and recover quickly after fights. The exception to this line of thought is to definitely take Indomitable Will at level ten because it protects you from so many status powers, not because of its psionic defense.

Well, I hope I generalized the thoughts about /WP in an accurate fashion. I decided to follow the second school's recomendations and it worked well for my DM/WP. I don't know if it will be the same for a MA/WP, but it is something to think about.

    Yes, I do!

Unfortunately, when I tried pasting your build code into Mids, it only goes up to level 18. Are you using a modified or more updated Mids version?

After reading your post I literally slapped my forehead for missing the stuff you pointed out. I made the changes you mentioned and exported the build as it stands now.

And thanks for taking the time to give me some advice.

Roger, I learned about that in the other thread too and it did indeed make it a lot easier to track down where I was ignorantly being redundant.
  9. Well, while reading another thread here in the scrapper forums I learned of the "Rule of 5" concerning set bonuses. Upon learning about that, I realized I had too many +Hp sets slotted. So, I altered a few things:
-switched the Numina's: Heal in Health to a regular Heal IO
-switched the Performance Shifter: EndMod in Stamina to a regular EndMod IO
-switched the Dark Watcher's Despair: To Hit Debuff in RttC to a regualr ToHitDebuff IO
-removed the 5th slot from RttC and placed it in Dark Consumption (which is what Repltbrain said to do all along and it wasn't until now that I realized why, hehe)
-removed the regular Recharge IOs from Dark Consumption and placed 3 Efficacy Adaptor IOs

So, the set bonus redundancy has been removed, Dark Consumption now has descent accuracy and the build will cost a little less too.

I'm still definitely open to comments and criticisms of this build if anyone has the time to look it over.

One thing that bugs me is the gap this build will have when running the "Smite -> SP -> MG -> Smite -> SP -> SL" chain, since my MG recharges too slowly in this build. Any recommendations for speeding it up?

  10. 1 billion, huh? Well, I guess it will give me something to do while I'm waiting for SW:TOR. Thanks for the reply, Nihilii.

Does anyone have anything else to say about this build? Specifically, I don't want to do the work to get this built and then find out my DPS is severely lacking or something. So, if anyone thinks they see a flaw, please point it out.

That's great, I'm glad you gained something from checking this build out.

  12. Thanks, Umbral! I checked out that thread and it definitely convinced me of the validity of using the +end procs.

I take it that over a long enough period of time the +end proc IOs will provide more endurance recovery than the extra 0.24 end/sec that Mids says I’m losing from this switch? Do you know how often the proc IOs have a chance to “fire” in an auto powers like Quick Recovery and Stamina?

    Quote:
Sub out the damage Eradication for dmg/rech Eradication in Shadowmaul.

Smite and Midnight Grasp need way more accuracy (and are way overslotted for damage past ED cap).
Thanks! I don’t know how I missed noticing how much over the ED those were. >.<

    Quote:
I'd probably get rid of Assault and put in Dark Consumption, maybe stealing 2 slots from RttC so that acc/recharge can be gotten in useful amounts.
Another great suggestion! I’ve been thinking I’d like to have Dark Consumption for emergencies (i.e. too many Sapper hits) but I didn’t think I could fit it into this build. I’m ashamed to admit, but I forgot that you only need one power pick from the first two tiers of power pools to get the tier three power. So, I’m glad you made that suggestion. I only stole one slot from RttC though, so I wouldn’t lose the extra max Hp from the IO sets there.

    Quote:
The perception proc in Tactics is redundant, unless you're planning on having Tactics merely as a set mule for the 1.88 s/l def, or maybe PvPing, dunno.
I’ve replaced the perception proc with the Rec’dRet-To Hit/Rech, because you’re right in that I don’t need the extra perception except in PvP (which doesn’t interested me atm) but I did specifically want the 1.88 S/L defence.

So, I’ve tweaked the build based on those suggestions and it’s posted below.

Anyone else care to offer some suggestions? Even if they are suggestions to radically alter the build, I’d really like to get more feedback.

  14. Hello fellow scrappers! I’m a, uh, 4th time poster, long time lurker. I’ve come here today to seek the wisdom of the build-tweakers and number-crunchers regarding a DM/WP build. It’s what I think I’m going to start working on at 50, not what I have currently as I’m just 41.

When putting this build together in Mids, my first priority was to approach the typed defense softcap. Once I felt I was as close to that goal as I was going to reach without making extreme sacrifices, I focused on Max Hp. I didn’t focus how much or how little this build would cost, as this is going to be a build I’m willing to work on for awhile.

What I’d really like, in addition to your general comments, is feedback concerning the viability of this build as an AV soloer. Will it generate sufficient DPS? Did I sacrifice to much recharge, max hp, etc to approach the def softcap? Please, be liberal with your criticisms; it’s the best way for me to learn.

Btw, the empty slot in Mind Over Body is for the PvP +3 Def IO.

  15. I've been considering making a DM/Inv or DM/WP once we can customize our power colors. But you raise a question that I've always had about Invulnerability: How would you recommend plugging the "Psi hole"?
  16. Nice guide, it gave me some ideas. Thanks.
