Quote:Yes. I'm puzzled by the apparent belief that the company is something more than the people who worked there. Black Isle may be gone, but the people who made Fallout what it is are still around. FONV is as much a mission pack for FO3 as Planescape: Torment was for Icewind Dale.Which isn't surprising because quite a few people who worked at Black Isle on Planetscape, Fallout and Fallout 2 now work / run Obsidian (including the CEO).
Anyway, sorry. This is really getting off topic. -
Quote:Bit of a hijack, but you are aware that the Black Isle guys worked on Fallout: New Vegas, right? It's the same gameplay as FO3 (with a few changes), so that might still be a deterrent, but the story and the setting are very true to the original games.I should have known better than to expect anything like Black Isle's old adventures, now that they're gone and the world has forgotten their ways,
I wish I had some insight on the main topic, but other than to point out that 'going out of your comfort zone' and 'keeping at something you don't like until you like it or at least don't mind it' are two different things, I got nothin'. -
I said this last night to a teammate on a speed ITF and felt bad about it afterward. It's...not really rude, but it's easy to take it the wrong way. "Hey, thanks for sucking!"

Well, as long as you're shaking the notion that the Incarnate system is mandatory, it's not a bad thing.

How do pets = grind? I get how raids = grind and XP = grind, but not how pets = grind.

When the WST was announced, I ran the STF for the first time ever. The Lieutenants pull got botched and we wound up fighting all four of Recluse's LTs at once, so it was a long fight. I was playing my hoverblaster at the time, and Scirocco seemed intent on killing me with his tornados, since every time he could cast them he threw them at me.
But I noticed that the tornados didn't immediately start damaging me, and I could fire off a power, strafe, fire off another power while the tornado caught up, strafe, fire off another, strafe...and so on. It probably did hurt my DPS, but it also kept me alive far longer than some of my more resilient teammates.
So it's not really a new mechanic, and it is possible to do. You just have to take the rooting into account when deciding when to move and when to attack. -

Quote:Pretty much what I've done. I left for two years and came back for Going Rogue.Hey, you can do exactly what I've done from time to time: Stop subscribing but occasionally check the main site for the content of updates. If anything "wows" you, resub and continue playing for as long as it holds your interest.
Quote:I can understand that argument, but it honestly doesn't make me feel any better. Sorry, I can't help that. If the answer truly is that I just need to shut up and wait, and hopefully maybe the Devs will at some point possibly add some more stuff I am interested in, well then, that sucks to be honest.
I'm not being snarky, I'm truly not. Issue 20 has been announced, either all of it or the big content additions at the very least. That's what it's going to be. You can make your displeasure known and hope they take it into account for the next issue or two (depending on how long their development cycle is), but beyond talking on the forums there's two things you can do at this point; either continue to play the parts of the game you like or unsubscribe, giving the reason for your canceled subscription in the exit survey.
It would be awesome if the dev team had a faster response and turnaround time, it really would. But Issue 20 isn't going to be changed at this point, for better or worse. They've sunk far too many manhours into it already. -
Quote:Again, not a new complaint.I would just like the Devs to show me in some small way that Issue 20 isn't going to be the standard fare from now on.
I mean, really, they're introducing a large new system into the game the game hasn't had before. Of course they're going to swing a lot of resources into getting it up and running. Activating something takes more power than maintaining and updating it. -
Quote:Imagine an issue that has nothing but badges. All that's being added is new badges. No new content to go with the badges, just new badges, all obtainable with the old content. Stuff like 'kill 100 Banished Pantheon totems' or 'earn the Task Force Commander accolade 5 times', things like that. Now who needs glasses. I said above, that I don't like badges, but I don't feel the need to complain when they're added. Just like I don't complain about anything being added just because I don't personally enjoy it.
Wouldn't you feel justified in posting that there's nothing for you in that issue and you hope the game doesn't continue in that way? If people told you to shut up and try badge hunting, you might like it, wouldn't you get a little defensive? Sure, you might tell yourself that it's just not your issue, but if it was part of a huge marketing push to really ramp up the badge hunting, you don't think you'd be concerned?
I think Sam's rhetoric is sometimes overblown and he tends to state his personal opinions as objective facts (saying "this is bad for the game" when you mean "the game is becoming something I don't like" has a high potential for ambiguity and misinterpretation, even if it is legitimate in a certain sense), but I have a hard time disagreeing with the content beneath the rhetoric. The game's gonna suck for him for the next...I don't know, year? And he's gotten defensive about being told to suck it up. I can sympathize, at least.
Of course, badges are a bad example. They may be the one aspect of the game where the subcommunity who focuses on them also despises new ones being added, because then their collection is never complete. -
So stop subscribing if you feel you must. But asking for your money back is just laughable.

Fair 'nuff. Depends on the level of the market you're playing at, and this being the Market forum I should know which level I'm talking to.

Quote:The recipe might be 20 mil, but that recipe requires 3-4 salvage pieces. When I outfit a character, I usually do it all at once, so we're talking like 60-some recipes and 180-240 pieces of salvage. Figure 150 non-rare salvage pieces (which are going to cost 3-4 mil regardless). Unless you're an 88, it seems silly to blow 75 mil on common and uncommon salvage when you could be paying 7.5-15 mil instead. It's only a minor fraction of the total cost of an IO, sure, but it adds up.Pretty much. It's the same thing with some folks balking at 500K salvage when the FREAKING RECIPE is 20 million.
Besides, what's that saying? Look after the pennies and the dollars take care of themselves? -

Purples are a boon in a high-recharge build and the procs can be very nice, but other than that they're pretty much a status thing.

My Brute is rocking the red and black.
On the other hand, while my Arachnos Soldier, who's recently made a strong play for becoming my main, wore red and black in the early levels, he's since found the perfect outfit of gold armor with deep purple trim. And he looks good.
My Blaster, who does wear a black trenchcoat, wears it over a purple shirt.
Purple used properly is a manly color. Never forget, it's the color of royalty. -

Run ITF until your eyes bleed.
Failing that, put up bids for 40 mil and leave them up for a long time. You might get lucky and someone will accidentally leave off a 0 when posting their recipe.
Those two are of course assuming you're talking about a melee character, which you are. If you happen to play a character with a confuse or sleep power, I poked at Fortunata's Hypnosis and Coercive Persuasion recently; compared to the damage sets, those are ridiculously cheap. You can get a full set of Fortunata's for under 100 mil if you're patient.
Edit: Oh, right, one other way. You can get them from alignment merits for 20-25 merits per recipe. That's an incredibly slow way, but you can do it without spending inf at all, and using it to supplement market purchases is more or less viable. -
Quote:Does anyone else feel kind of dirty now? That would make me a hardcore casual hardcore hardcore. I'm a hardcore player knowing the ins and outs of the game. And I'm really hardcore about being a hardcore player, having invented a lot of the ins and outs of the game.. But I'm pretty casual about being a hardcore hardcore player, usually not playing explicitly to leverage that knowledge. And I'm very hardcore about being casual about it: I go far out of my way not to become a hardcore hardcore hardcore player.
