No sure I get RP in CoX. I have been active in RP games for, well, a long time. D&D, Chapions tabletop, Vamp the perpetual hassle, etc... Even Rolemaster, which required a spreadsheet program and a 20 page character sheet if you followed all the rules.
So, I'm on Virtue, mainly cause I know a group of players there who do Master badge runs, and are real pros. Always nice to play with pros.
Last night I decide I am gonna try to get my feet wet in RP in Atlas. I have a goal of finding a Blaster I like and doing every arc Blueside as I 50 them, figure why not make that a RP character. i mean, i'm gonna be on that one a while, and it would definitely fit.
There were peeps hanging in Atlas, obviously RPing. I come up, saying things in character. Never even an acknowledgement that i was there. Am I missing something? I figure they were RPing in Atlas because they wanted to RP w/ new characters. Do you need a decoder ring? I was also in broadcast (New character looking for RP SG). Did i just get unlucky, or is this a common experience amongst peeps trying to get in with an RP group? -
I wish there were more non elemental attacks in Blaster pools. But when life gives you lemons... Okay, I did an experiment last night, Fire/Dark. Took him through 6-7 DFB. Wow, the difference between him and the NRG/NRG Blaster I leveled there is nothing short of extreme. I felt like I was personally killing half the mobs while the rest of the team just mopped up. Probably wrong there, But it was a way different feel than Nrg/Nrg.
Now, Dark secondary fits my concept, but I love making new characters. I have seen Fire/Mental, Fire/Elec, Fire/Ice all mentioned above. How does Dark compare to those, or why are they better? I think I see it, Mental has 2 Aoes, plus the AoE self regen/recov. Its first attack is ranged. So when held/slept you can still spam a 3 attack chain no matter what. Dark is mostly ST, and while I love the damage buff, it requires PB, and that's not a thing I want required, even if I plan to play this in a lot closer than my nrg/nrg. -
Does anybody have experience with this card and City of X? Will it run Ultra, and does it perform well?

I think its great. Gonna do a Blaster with devices secondary, will have my vet drone power, the targeting drone, and these things. It's another freaking aura lol.

thanks, thats why I don't know. I dont like to do things in parts. Once they get all seven set up I probably will. Unless the rewards are very good, you get an A-merit if you do it after 20 according to another thread?

Quote:Yeah Boris, it's not as simple as that. From the response i got from the senior rep I'm okay as long as my character isn't a giant insectoid with 4 legs and razor arms, or something to that effect. (Not really sure what Zerg's look like myself. The origin for my character's name derived from Physics "ERG", then adding the Z for punch.)Didnt another game get around the problem by making each name start with a series of letters and then only the actual name you put in would show on screen but for legal purposes say you picked Zurg you actual name would be cityofheroeslibertyZurg and then satisfy the 25%. I thought I read that somewhere about another game.

The new trial is a Dev sponsored farm in my opinion. I can level a toon to 20 there in very little time (couple hours?) The exp on this still gives a level every 2 runs in the 20s, every 3 runs in the 30s, and 2 bars in the 40s. So, yeah, in my opinion the Devs made it easy to 50.
I am still working on my "giant concept toon", a perennial favorite of mine, where I set a task for myself with a toon and do it. I am just about committed to soloing every arc Blueside. i have done it Redside 3-4 times, but never got past 20 Blueside. The multiple contacts for the same arc always got tiresome for me, could never be sure I was getting them all. I think someone updated the Wiki with a better guide for the arcs and who gives them, so i'm looking at trying again. Okay, that was a tangent lol. -
ROFLMAO Pine, at my wife's suggestion I changed my global to Snarky. Just saying, don't try to out-snark me. Also, this little statement of yours shows you obviously did not read the thread, or if you did your comprehension level is near nil.

Yeah, I do the -1/+0 cause its already a month commitment or so lol. So, let me rephrase the question.
What Blaster has the easiest time soloing in the game? I'm actually thinking traps as the secondary, because if i needed to I could take my time and set up kill positions with trops/bombs/mines. Also considering that the mobs will be pretty much everything the game has, and every map, and every situation. -
I have solo'd villain side multiple times on Brutes, every story arc. I am wondering how hard it would be to do that with a Blaster, and Blueside. Every story arc, every mission? I do tend to set at -1/+0, just for speed, and I already have to shut off Experience earning often.
What would be the best Blaster for doing this? -
I heard they pulled Ice armor off of brutes because Fury generation got weird. But why do scrappers not get ice/ice? You can do an ice/ice blaster or tank, but no scrapper?
-
I almost always put the damage one in for my blasters. However, depending on your build/playstyle the endurance one or the recharge one could work as well.

Look, I got into the game because it's cool. But all those endless zones, the details of all the neighborhoods, cities, etc. it's too much. I hate having to walk from the 1st level spawn point to the AE bldg. Why cant they just give you the option to have a new character spawn in the AE bldg? And why is there no trainer in the AE bldg? More walking!

Quote:Thats a great story. I still have a Tank on Virtue that is Nice Ice. I am not fond of the character, but cannot delete it cause the name is, well, cool.My 5-year old wanted to create an ice-based fairy. Of course, "Ice Fairy" was taken. It took her about 3 seconds flat to look at me and say, "nICE Fairy?" with the biggest grin on her face. Yep, available.
For the love of all that's holy, don't let a 5-year old out-pun you.
(Of course, she ended up deciding to go plant/plant dom, but hey, the thought process was there, heh.) -
Quote:I didn't get that one either funnily enough. then I was over at a friend's house telling him about my CoV character. He is a Sgt. with the LAPD. He was like "You realize Blue Centurion is a cop reference?" I was literally stunned. Doh. There are even cop books with that in the title.Well, just offering up examples of what could come out of a translator search. They're not all going to be gems.
( Not sure where you got anything about cops from... )
Plus I have never really grabbed onto much foreign stuff unless it really made sense for the character. Martial Artist? Sure, chines/japanese, etc. But to just randomly pick a language because anything I can think of was taken? Nope. And while sometimes I can be picky, i ran around for over half a year on a SS/Will Brute called "Scourge23", and he was loaded with my purples at the time. (Don't ask, i know it was a horrid build idea, it was fun). He needed to be Scourge because he was a variation on a character I was running in tabletop Champions game i was doing with my wife. -
Too true about going sideways. To me the best AT for soloing the game is a Brute SS/Invul. The real challenge there is in endurance management. As a Brute you need to keep attacking allatime, but with that build you want to keep rest periods. The KO Blow comes in at level 8, really sweet. No AoE until 32, but when it comes in, it comes in BIG. Everyone is jealous of Footstomp (and you all know it!) There is of course the Psi hole, which is only filled with buckets of green inspirations it seems. And Invul's tier 9...well, lets not go there. I still hold out the hope they tweak it. sigh. Very little, but some. But in general the SS/Inv Brute drives like a Semi-Truck. Not completely ignoring stuff like a true Tank, but once you get momentum behind you whatever is getting in your way is gonna be really really sorry. Also, i remember once getting onto a high level team that was just grinding with my 28 SS/Invul (only SO'd) We were on the third really hard mish when the lead tank said to me "I just realized you were only playing a 28! You're doing great." With Rage increasing accuracy, and the layered protections od def/res/health it is just a joy to drive right outta the box.

Quote:Absolutely. Blue centurion taken? Try:
Blu secoli ( Italian )
Puteulanus centurion ( Latin )
blau Jahrhunderte ( German )
azul centurion ( Spanish )
blåfarge århundre ( Norwegian )
Etc, etc. Of course, you'll have to change the "special characters" to standard english characters. So that last one would be blafarge arhundre. Anyway, fire up a translator online and run the name through to see what comes out. Even combine languages. Blue Jahrhunderte, for example.
Blue Centurion (for me) isn't about a cop, or anything to do with Romans. For me the inspiration was the original cylons from Battlestar Galactica. Mine was a Centurion that developed much higher intelligence (altho many of his fights make me question that) and was shifted thru time/space into the City of Heroes. Possibly with the latter causing the former.
Also, try getting invited to taskforces with a name like blaflarge arhundre
On a positive note I did get the name on the VIP server, and am working on a project there with him. -
Quote:I have run a heavily purp'd perma dom Grav/Nrg. I love propel, in concept. But you're right, on a dom its a terd. It was specifically what I was referring to about being grafted onto doms poorly. the activation time makes it worthless on a dom, but I hear it works great for controllers. Guess I should examine those one day lol. Dimension shift is okay, used sparingly, although very rare is the occasion the team has complimented me on it's use, even when I saved their bacon with it. The problem is everyone has to wait around for it to wear off. Strange as it seems, since I hate the toggle control from mind, Dim Shift should be a toggle.Propel, which is 90% of the reason I wanted to play Gravity, is likely one of the worst powers in the game, IMHO, ranking right up there with Dimension Shift which (JOY!) you also have in Grav. (
Also, as a permadom there is enough control, buch just barely. then the dim shift is useful, since its different. and wormhole, lol, well it's just funny. -
I have solo'd every arc redside, multiple times. Always with a Brute. SS/Will, SS/Invul. I would not do Stone armor. It has the absolute worst brute armor values pre-tier 9. And IMO the tier 9 is very bad. (sooo many reasons, you get a generic look, rech pen, movement pen, etc....)
Scrapper is a very good choice. With a Brute you build up momentum and use it to crush peeps (the Fury Bar) and that can be a real trick soloing, cause you gotta get the right mix of enhancements/insp for survivability and speed. You cannot slow down. Why Willpower works great there, it can be very challenging with Invul. with a Scrapper you are doing very good damage stone cold, and can rest w/e.
I have solo'd all blueside arcs to 25 on a Blaster. It is challenging, but can be done. With that guy I even did the entire last mission of the old Posi alone (team abandoned, sigh) Took quite a while, but it was doable. The old Posi had an EB at the end, and he wont go down the vators near him.....I sniped a lot lol. I can solo some stuff with my 50 Blaster, but it is better if I set to easy mode. The theory is you Assassin an entire spawn before it can even hit you. My blaster is short on AoE. So I have to use a lot of strategy.
I am thinking of soloing the game again, wish I could do both sides w/o switching back and forth lol. But it is very interesting to see the stories develop. I am glad they are making it so choices made affect the world, very nice. I am considering using a grav/nrg dom. in many ways the worst dom, and the powers are difficult. Grav came from trollers and they didnt tailor it, they just grafted it on like a bad third limb. But I like the Dom system, and the concepts of grav/nrg power just works for a lot of my concepts. Good luck in your choices. -
Quote:K, try getting "Blue Centurion" on Freedom or Virtue, because I've been trying very regularly for four years.Sorry dude, that's untrue... at least in my case. I never have issues finding names I like anymore. And I play on the third and fourth most populous servers (at least they were... not sure where they rank since Freedom launched).
there are also a ton of other names that come right to my head when I am making up a character that are almost always taken. Even stuff like Pyronomicon, and a thousand other clever (at least I thought they were clever) tries that are somewhat short, memorable, made up by me, and not a ripoff of any comic.
But sure, if you want "Cool Name 412" you can probably get it. or "XxSpiderxX" Name a half dozen of your characters with cool names, on busy servers. -
There are so many derivations of the uncle sam name i would just find a clever variation andmake that part of my characters story. My 2 inf

Not sure how the game is coded. Was thinking X Y Z axis. What i am talking about is exactly like standing on ground higher than another piece of ground. When you hit Fly or Hover, that does not animate, it just gives you control over Z axis. The animation is mostly coded in, we see it with the Rocketboard, just need to customize that. The attack animations are already coded in, by my design you are standing on a piece of ground you control, and the animations will be you, standing on ground.

Does anyone have one of these hoverblaster builds laying around. Or, what sets would I go about wanting to build this in the fewest enhancers possible? Concept is hoverblaster, will be my main for 1 year.
Cost not an object, have a Glad Proc +3%, and all sorts of goodies i've stripped off two old "mains' sitting around to either build with or trade for parts. thanks for the help. Any purple sets that can be squeezed on would be nice. One of the characters I stripped had 5 sets, like to recycle.
